I am horrified! The unshakeable courtesy of the Japanese was eaten away by money lust.

With the intention of tasting tea and buying a Matcha tea set we drove in our Campingvan 1 hour from Kyoto the wildest serpentines to badly signposted Obubu Tea Farms.

A non-Japanese employee greeted us in English friendly outside and showed us the parking lot. Inside the manageable shop, the Japanese employee Hiro gave us an unusual hand.
Next door, tourists could be heard talking about their relationship with tea in a self-help group, a four-hour tour for 12,000 yen had just begun.

One star is for the welcome cold tea that tasted good and did well in the heat.

We communicated to Hiro in advance that we would like to buy a tea set (they will give you a lot of money, about 150 for brush, ceramic mug, matcha tea powder, etc.) and would like to taste first which tea we buy. We were told that we should go for a tasting. We had already visited teahouses and tea ceremonies before and found it was enough for one of us to taste the teas, as the tasting cost 28.

I have rarely experienced such a rude thing and I am in Berlin.

In Spanish one would say now, it is not worth the pain, no vale la pena!

Obubu tea farms treated us spectacularly well. We went in a party of two and came up from Kyoto by train and took a taxi from kamo station. We picked tea by hand and learned everything about the tea harvesting process, about the production process, and how to correctly prepare Japanese tea, including macha.

Our guides were wonderful and helpful. It took about four hours, we got there a tiny bit early but given the transportation it was basically a full day thing for us. Seeing all the tea fields was really special for us as we are both afficianados. They fed us and stopped to ask if we had questions along the way, offered to take our pictures with our phones (and the pictures came out great) and so on. Highly, highly recommended.

Obubu offers a tea tour around their tea fields which is a great way to get in contact with Japanese tea. In addition, they also offer the Japanese Tea Master course, an extensive two week program that covers a wide variety of topics from tea history to tea cultivation and chemistry. The reference point for all those tea lovers who would like to know more about Japanese tea. The course and tours are in English. If you want to become an intern, you can also apply for their 3 month internship.

What can i say about obubu?

What can i say about obubu?

My wife and i stumbled across this tea farm experiance online when looking to do tea ceremonies in japan.

I can say without a doubt that this was the best experiance we had during our whole trip here. The culture, the people, the beautiful landscape and learning tea is grown, cultivated, processed and packaged. The tour guides are amazing people that answer any of your questions that will help you grow your knowledge of tea and how to consume it.

Please anyone going to Japan, make sure to put this at the very top of your list of things to do. You wont regret it.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They don t force any of there views about the proper tea but do demonstrate ways to enjoy Japanese tea and have a positive tea experience. We toured the tea fields and factory. We reviewed tea types and then had a class on brewing and preparation. Lunch was included and at a restaurant. You can purchase tea and a book on Japanese tea as well. And maybe even inquire about an internship at the tea farm. Everyone spoke English.

This is a fantastic experience. From the staff who speak English to the incredibly enthusiastic tea master, this tour is a must do for masters and novices of tea.

The tour begins with an overview of the area, the specific tea farm, and some tastings. This is followed by a trip into the tea fields and some stunning vistas. Then the various tea cultivation methods are shown.

The next stop is in the processing house where the leaves become tea as we know it.

The provided lunch is delicious and locally sourced. This lunch is followed by an interactive tea tasting where the staff show how to properly make tea and we get to make sencha and macha.

The entire time, the staff are really helpful about answering questions (I had a bunch), and everyone is so happy and hospitable. Many employees are "interns" from all around the world who are developing their tea knowledge.

This was the highlight of my trip to Japan and I recommend this to any traveler. Great group activity

it was really nice to get out into the countryside and see some tea fields and processing equipment.
we had been having a lot of bad weather due to a big typhoon, and this was the first nice day we had in the kyoto area.
great timing!
obubu grows over 6 cultivars, but they pretty much just use yabukita for the products they sell (including black tea).

I had a tour of the place with some obubu staff and interns. It was in English and they were very friendly. We watched a few PowerPoint presentations. Visited a tea field. Toured their production machines. Ate at a restaurant. And then we tasted a couple of teas and made our own matcha!

It was enjoyable and we learned a lot about tea farming, production, and types of tea. They offered an additional driving tour for additional cost to the regular tour which we chose not to participate in.

About Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms

Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms: Providing High-Quality Japanese Green Tea and Revitalizing Agriculture

Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms, also known as Obubu Tea, is a Japanese tea company that aims to provide high-quality green tea while contributing to the local and global community. The company was founded in 2004 by Akihiro Kita and Yasuharu Matsumoto, who were both passionate about tea and agriculture.

Obubu Tea's mission is to revitalize interest in agriculture by promoting the culture of Japanese green tea. The company believes that by sharing their knowledge and passion for tea, they can inspire people around the world to appreciate the beauty of agriculture.

The farm is located in Wazuka-cho, Kyoto Prefecture, which has been known for its high-quality green tea for centuries. The area's unique climate and soil conditions make it an ideal place for growing tea. Obubu Tea carefully selects only the best leaves from their own farm or from other local farmers who share their commitment to quality.

One of the things that sets Obubu Tea apart from other companies is their dedication to transparency. They believe that customers should know where their tea comes from and how it was produced. That's why they offer tours of their farm so visitors can see firsthand how they grow and process their teas.

Obubu Tea offers a wide variety of teas including sencha (steamed green tea), matcha (powdered green tea), genmaicha (green tea with roasted rice), hojicha (roasted green tea), and more. Each type of tea has its own unique flavor profile depending on factors such as when it was harvested or how it was processed.

In addition to selling high-quality teas, Obubu also offers educational programs for those interested in learning more about Japanese green tea culture. They offer online courses as well as hands-on workshops at their farm where participants can learn everything from how to brew the perfect cup of sencha to how to make matcha sweets.

Another way that Obubu contributes to the community is through its social initiatives. For example, they have partnered with local schools to teach children about agriculture and sustainability through hands-on activities like planting vegetables or making compost.

Overall, Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms is a company that truly cares about quality, transparency, education, sustainability, and community involvement. Their dedication shines through in every cup of delicious Japanese green tea they produce!
