This is American Sushi = full of creamy sauces. Not the place for fresh authentic Japanese but the flavours are amazing (volcano roll a must). The special menus are reasonable but can be a little over priced otherwise. Great location

The food was bad, lobster was over cooked and lack of seasoning, very expensive for the quality of the food. The food came out very slow.
We had 3 people and they only brought us 1 small dessert bowl and told us to share. When we requested to talk to the manager he tried to explain in the most uncommon sense like the bowl is actually a portion for 3 people, if you come by yourself have the whole thing because it's like a bonus, but if you come with 2 or 3 people you're gotta share the bowl because it's actually designed for 3. So next time we can come and sit in different tables to get the dessert to ourselves without paying the price for 3 and only get one dessert to share. If we do that we occupied more tables and it's actually pretty stupid to have such a policy.
One of my friend actually had food poisoning after and she was pretty sick.I am very upset with the experience and I would never in my life going back to this restaurant again.

Groupon deals are always a steal here. Amazing seafood, quite expensive if you don't use a Groupon. Lovely service, great views of Darling Harbour if you get a windowside table. Good wine selection.

The restaurant is in desperate need of a refit and before that, a significant clean, was disgustingly dirty. Air-con sounded like a jumbo jet taking off and had to be turned off. Food was prepared by a young Korean man who was studying at TAFE, a nice man, unfortunately didn t have a clue on how to cook teppanyaki. Produce was poor and (thankfully) very small portions. Oh and as a final observation, definitely far too expensive. Don t bother! This was at the Kobe Jones in Cumberland Street, the rocks, Sydney

Five stars for the view and the amazing food. We had the set menu for two with wines and loved everything they brought out.
We went on a Saturday night and they had a DJ playing very loud music, it might be some peoples thing but I think it took away from the experience I'd expect at a high end restaurant

We went to Kobe Jones last weekend (Saturday). I would definitely recommend getting a Groupon Voucher. You get two for the price of one person. The food was nice and the customer service was friendly. The only problem I had is that it is not a pram and baby friendly venue. You may think, why would you bring your baby to such a place? I would say, I wanted to food-venture and our baby girl is generally well behaved (she was on her best behaviour). When I say it isn't baby or pram friendly, what I mean is their disability toilet doesn't have a baby change table and there isn't a ramp for wheelchair or pram access (if there is one, we didn't see it and they never directed us to one). Anyone thinking of bringing their baby to this venue, I would suggest you go to another restaurant. Otherwise, it is a nice restaurant with nice food and friendly service.

I told my partner never to bring me to a restaurant where they do the whole (groupon) voucher thing. Wi did not use one of course (would never) but I was sure this was one of those restaurants, I got that vibe from the place so I looked it up and I was right. Nothing we ordered tasted anything, not even salty but was spicy (spicy doesn't mean flavour).

I have heard mixed reviews about Kobe Jones and after being very disappointed at The Rocks Teppanyaki (same thing there, no taste or flavour in anything. Same owner too..) my expectations were not that high.

Will unfortunately not go back but stick to my favs instead. Too bad Mr. Jones can't cook.
Great cocktails though.

Horrible service. Waitresses just having a chat amongst themselves took so long for them to get them to come to my table. Had to ask twice for a glass of water. Food is very average for the price you pay. No wonder they are doing these scoupon deals becuase they're losing business.

5 people on 24th Dec 2014 - Terrible service and pretty average food.

The chef was very forgetful, missing courses and would have forgotten completely if we had not reminded him of them.

Rude waitress who did not know the restaurant's menu and adamantly insisted that the set menu did not include dessert when in fact it did.

Perfect way to ruin a nice family Christmas Eve dinner. Really regret going there and spending so much money for such a terrible experience.

Go elsewhere for better service and food.

What was once a restaurant I would have happily pa...

What was once a restaurant I would have happily paid full price for is now one that I would not return to despite a 50% off promotion. Despite food being the expected focus, it was the lack of service that caught my attention, almost as fast as the waiter catching his dish as he slipped on water he spilled 2 minutes before.

After our second course was served, a waiter proceeded to take away our dishes but not before spilling a good portion of sauce over my phone. Despite me proceeding to wipe and clean in front of him, he took no notice and offered no apology.

A second waiter later cleaned our table of any spilled condiments by wiping them directly onto the floor in multiple motions which left me completely baffled until a third waiter arrived.

When the third waiter arrived, he picked up my glass to top up my water but by being too eager, he poured a good amount onto the floor amongst the spilled condiments left by waiter 2 and also onto my shoe. He looked at me, looked at my shoe, and again offered no acknowledgement or apology.

At this point, the script of a good comedy was already written and as fate would have it, waiter 3 returned to serve our opposing table with food and slipped on the concoction of loose condiments and water, narrowly missing a full fledged catastrophe with dishes flying everywhere.

Waiter 1 later returned to offer me the bill. We then waited 10 minutes before flagging down another waiter to pay the bill. 5 minutes after paying the bill waiter 1 returned with an EFTPOS machine to ask how I would like to pay.

It is a major disappointment for a restaurant that was once considered one of the top Japanese dining establishments in Sydney.

The plethora of unanswered feedback below this comment and those to follow give me little to no hope of this once fine restaurant returning to its forgotten glory.

Side note, the food was extremely salty and our miso soups were served lukewarm. In contrast to our opposing table who had notable steam escaping from theirs.

One of my favourite Japanese fusion places. They have super delicious sushi combinations like the volcano roll. It's a bit pricey though so look out for the regular deals that they do for set courses.

Ive eaten here twice now & ordered the 8 course lobster degustion both times! Food is tasty but not consistent in look or taste. U expect perfection in fine dining, especially at that price! Service is absolutely disgusting!!!! Door girls are the rudest, stuck up women ive ever encountered & the wait staff forget things, you have to ask 2 or 3 times to get a napkin or a glass of water. Really enjoyed it the first time, perhaps coz it was at lunch time. The second time i was really disapointed, which was a saturday evening. If u do try this place out i recommend going at lunch!! Its worth doing once!

I have dined many times at Kobe Jones in the past and hadn't been for a few years until last night. I remember the restaurant being expensive and good, now it's just expensive and average. My husband and I dined with a First Table deal and thank god we did because I would have been extremely upset to pay full price. Firstly, the drinks are expensive, $20 for a weak mojito, $12 for a standard beer, around $20 for a shot of decent vodka or gin (I asked for a not-sweet mojito, it arrived sweet despite being assured it wasn't a sweet cocktail). Secondly the food, average at best and not good value. Dishes drowned in sweet sauce, and frankly didn't have anything I couldn't have ordered at a local suburban Japanese restaurant. My main arrived ten minutes after my husband's and he'd almost finished eating his little piece of fish. The place also needs a face lift with dated decor, broken tiles, sad looking toilets and tired furniture. Will not be going again. This place has definitely lost its edge and I feel it is focussed on making money, not on providing a great dining experience. Avoid, but if you insist on going there, purchase a deal ahead of time.

Food and views are let down by the service. Waiters have no idea how to greet and sit guests; how about an introduction to the menu, a smile, and familiarity with the menu. Having to point to every item you're after is worse than an average suburban cafe. The staff need to be completely retrained here. Wouldn't recommend or go back. Totally unremarkable. Lift your game guys.

We were extremely disappointed with the food this time around, in contrast with our previous positive experiences at Wharf Teppanyaki. The quality of food has gone down markedly since our previous visits: two meals were forgotten; the miso soup was lukewarm; our 'medium rare' wagyu steaks were tough and overcooked; the scallops were chewy; and the garlic rice was burnt, hard and clumpy. Even the dessert was tasteless and icecream melted when served. On top of all this, one staff member was rude... In summary we felt really ripped off. My partner and I have never felt the need to write a bad restaurant review before, however we felt compelled in this situation. For the price, the quality and service were far below par.

Food here was fresh and delicate. Came on a Saturday for lunch and the restaurant was almost empty which is a shame. I can only imagine that this was due to the price. It was quite expensive. I don't feel it was over priced for the quality. More of a special lunch.

Terrible service!! We sat there for 10-15 mins and couldn't find the wait staff. When we made the complaints, they didn't even care. It ruined our Christmas dinner. The food was not bad, the price was ok, and the service was very poor. We will never go back again.

Came here for a degustation course and we loved every dish! Miso soup was a little too salty, but everything else was absolutely amazing. The waterfront view was great too, and staff were nice and polite, they even wrote a birthday message on the dessert plate as a surprise for me.

This place is a joke, don t waste your money, seriously!
Food is beyond ordinary and way overpriced, our waitress was lovely but the female maitre d was rude and completely incapable of her job - she gave our table away by mistake with no apology given, just parading around the restaurant like a totally self-absorbed peacock, defo should not be in customer service.

Great food, great atmosphere, lovely view. Really enjoy the variety of the food. They really should add more non alcoholic beverages, so far the only one is the Manggo drink, taste lovely. Service also great, just there is room for a bit more improvement on the reservation part.

Overall, this is a fine dining place, really good for Japanese food enthusiast.

Had lunch at Kobe Jones today and must say my clients and I were very disappointed. We had the $29 all you can eat sushi platters. We waited almost an hr (there were 4 other tables of customers at the time). The platters consisted of their house specialty, salmon and cucumber, vegetarian which was carrot and cucumber and a seafood extender one. After sharing two platters we asked for a third platter without the seafood extender and the vegetarian option which were really tasteless. We were told there were no other choices. I have had this lunch deal in the past (when it was $25 per person) and we were given far more options, tuna prawn salmon etc. Massive rip off, will not be back!

We went to Kobe Jones as a group of 8 for a big milestone celebration. We had a wonderful experience - the food was modern, interesting and delicious! The views are spectacular and the wait staff were wonderful. We just wished the music was turned down a bit so we could hear each other talk!

Winter tasting menu was so forgettable. A lack of seasoning ruined most dishes. Seafood extender was overused - shouldn't even appear in a $120+ set menu. Poor value, mediocre quality. Don't bother.

Food was tasty, and unique, was not too busy, on the friday night (6pm-8pm) , however the music they were playing was too loud, could hardly hear or talk to the person opposite me at the table. Couldn't leave early from the loud music since waiting for all the food to arrive.
Staff can hardly speak or understand english. No complaints about the food it was tasty, but don't expect to have any nice conversation, since it's loud like bar loud music. It's bizzarre since the decor makes it look romatic etc, however u can't talk music way too loud.

Kobe Jones was the first date location for my now partner.
Special memory for this place, though, the prices for teppanyaki is most definitely towards closer to the $$$$ status. It is not fine dining though, other places to the same quality and service is much more Wallet friendly.
The rating of 3 stars Is purely to the prices and to the somewhat inattentive service we experienced as you would expect or deserve for the pricing out forward
Give it a try as the venue is superb, though, it is like buying a entry level German superior branded car. You are paying for the name and not what it could ultimately be.

Food was good, but below expectations. Lunch specials worth a try and great value for teppanyaki lunch. Sushis were average, expected better and fresher quality given the reputation and price. The decor was nice, but dark with all the wood panellings. Service was average.

I believe I have been deceived by a Kobe Jones Restaurant and this matter should go to the Department of Fair Trading.
I have bought voucher for an eight-course lobster degustation menu which worth $149.00 per person. I have paid $69. But it even doesn't worth $69.00. Food at the any food court is tastier and better quality. They have destroyed our wedding anniversary celebration and all my guests were also upset and disappointed. Never will go there again and advise all my friends never go there. Think about lodging complaint with the Department of Fair Trading.

This was a terrible and disappointing dining experience. We hosted a corporate event here, and I'm afraid neither I nor any of our guests could say a positive word. I would warn against hosting a corporate event here. The prices are extortionate, the food was heavy and quite ordinary. The service was exceptionally bad. The host of this restaurant threatened us, so we were never going to walk away with a happy feeling. The waitstaff were aloof, and couldn't tell us if a dish contained seafood in it- despite us mentioning we had a guest with a seafood allergy. All in all, a very expensive mistake.

The Groupon deal for 2 people 8 Course lobster degustation was great for values. The view was very pleasant and the food portions were generous. However the food quality was not impressive at all.The miso soup was like instant miso soup found in Asian grocery. The lobster meat was not as fresh, in particular the lobster tail dish caused me some instant nausea feeling after eating.

Their all you can eat sushi deal comes with many restrictions. You can only refill the sushi platter, not the handrolls or chef's special . They only offer eight pieces of nigiri for each platter. Handrolls, rolls and volcano sushi are filled with way too much rice, heavy mayonnaise sauce on top of volcano sushi, which make it difficult to enjoy sushi. Some ingredients are not fresh.
For 35 bucks, they should provide better sushi than what they are offering now. Definitely do not recommend the all you can eat sushi deal. It is not worth the money.

Disappointing!

Disappointing!

Food is presented very well and the visual atmosphere of the place is nice, although that was pretty much cancelled out by the nervously uptempo house music.

On to the food... Unfortunately, not all dishes lived up to their price tag. Mr. Jones loves to drown his dishes in mayo. I have nothing against mayo, but it comes across as a cheap trick when done at an upmarket restaurant.

The service was extremely underwhelming as well. Our server was hopelessly inexperienced. He never checked in, barely spoke or explained and made the whole experience feel rushed and confusing. We had to ask him to slow down twice, as the dishes came out faster than we could eat them.

Got a Groupon voucher and visited with three family members. Had the winter set menu. Fun and creative way to plate food. Loved the lollipop sushi and the hot rock/plate lobster! The Alaskan crab was also amazing. Nice views by the water, family has a great time. Service was on point despite being quite busy. Definitely want to try the teppanyaki next time!

Went for the Land & Sea Banquest (AUD$330) The Good dishes: 1. Crab salad wrapped in king fish and sauce (shaped like a ball). 2. Calamari fritto. 3. Volcano Roll. All the others were just blend fillers without excitement. and a scope of ice cream with mud cake for dessert is a sad way to end a banquet....

I was not a fan of the rest of the dishes, even the crab felt like it was just boiled in water... I guess the flavours were a little too subtle for me. the tiger prawn tempura was off, it just fall apart when you pick it up, so I am not sure if it was intended to be like that. and the prawn just felt like its raw.

anyway, for $138 I really thought I could have gotten better dishes. I was just happy that I didn't pay $330 for it which was the normal value, otherwise it would have been a big disappointment.

We went there as part of Groupon's land and sea banquet. It was pouring rain and cold when we arrived, luckily there was good heating lamps where we sat . (2 people). The restaurant had these blinds that kept out most of the rain so its good, but still the occasion cold draft came through.

Lobster course was not that great as I imagine. I knew for sure the ingredients used was low. Lobster meat tasted worse than chicken meat.

I always hear mixed comments from a lot of different people talking about Kobe Jones, some love them and some hate them. So I went there the first time ever and sad to say it is more neutral to negative.

First of all, the staff were excellent, the view and atmosphere is splendid (right next to Darling Harbour with a dark candlelight atmosphere).

But overall the food is a bit on the mediocre side.

We got the "11-Course 'Winter Romance' Degustation" (one each).

The degustation portion is on point, where I didn't feel bloated but comfortably full.

But as for the food, the presentation is lovely, but sadly that is all.
The flavour of the food isn't special and for the price other Japanese restaurants offers a much better and memorable experience.

Overall would I recommend Kobe Jones, sadly no. There are better option Japanese (fusion/non fusion) food in Sydney for a much better price.

This could have been a one star.... But they saved it in the end.
The food was GREAT. The service at the beginning was GREAT. The seat had a water view and that was lovely too.
Thing was, I was there because i had $50 off in the entertainment book... And I wanted to try lots of dishes. So I picked the ITO Wagyu sampler ($69) the volcano rolls, the king fish carpaccio and tempura veg. The waitress told me they didn't have any ITO samplers left so I chose the normal $69 Wagyu. She put our order in the kitchen and ran back to say they did have ITO left. Great. Everything arrived. Everything was lovely... Until the bill arrived and they charged us for the $159 ITO Wagyu!!! When I pointed out their mistake the waitress and manager came back and said that because we ate it...we had to pay!! How was I supposed to know that the steak we ate WASN'T the sampler that I ordered???? Thankfully they fixed up the issue in the end and it didn't spoil the night too much.

Visited this place with very high expectations. However was very disappointed with my overall experience. Service was very poor, waiter couldn't even explain my dishes nor was she helpful in my selections. The quality of food in comparison to price isn't what i expected at such a restaurant. Received better quality and service at a local sushi train. Also be sure to check your bill as we were over charged! Twice! Very disappointed.

Great view and location by the King St wharf. Had the Scoopon deal, 13-course Summer Sunsets degustation menu with sake, it was amazing, highlights were the Grilled Alaskan crab, Spicy Lobster Roll and the Wagyu on Hot Rock.

The only complaint I have is with the Wagyu on Hot Rock, the waitress brought out the hot rock and started cooking the Wagyu on our table and she showed us the condiments and sauces and just left with no further instructions, we flipped the Wagyu to cook the other side which was not an easy task as it was sticking to the hot rock and by the time I had managed to flip them all, most of the pieces were overcooked.

Food was rushed out and taste average. Definitely not even close to fine dining. More like casual dining. Not worth a re-visit as service was poor, and there are better Jap fusion restaurants nearby.

Not recommend here at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All customers before you go Jobe jones please read below !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!Totally disappointed!!!!!!

1. Bad attitude receptionist (a girl , Asian look, short hair on shoulder and not sure her name as We were very hungry, Did not want to waste more time as they made a mistake for my booking that I called two weeks ago )at 14/02/2019, her face let me feel: just go next door Kobe, I said no seats available. here is busy , just leave. And give us an unhappy face (She told me manager and shop owner are there not here)

2. I spent two hours searching the website two weeks before Valentine's Day. And called few restaurants which are al crazy fully booked for 7pm . So I had to Call Kobe jones(not my first choice as the review here is not that good) and spoke very clearly that I wanna make a booking for two eat teppanyaki at the rocks(I was looking at teppanyaki the rocks webpage at the same time while made the phone call) And a guy picked up the phone and said Valentine's Day all same price for teppanyaki which is $125 per person plus champagne and chocolate. He asked me firstly can 6.30pm? I said the earliest we could is 7pm(as we finish work late) he said ok. And yesterday we went there , the unhappy face receptionist told me no seats available, I said I had confirmation message, she said not here next door. I said next door is teppanyaki? She said no, its meals. I said I made booking for teppanyaki not meals . She said just go next door impatiently. What is that mean by just go next door !?!?!?!? You made a mistake and waste my time , and kind destroy our Valentine's Day and now told me just go away ?!?!?!?!?!?!? At the end , we were quite hungry , so we left and went to other restaurants and had to wait longggggg time to finally eat our dinner as everywhere was busy we did not make booking (of course cus we made booking already here). So I feel the customer service is very bad and booking staff is not good as well. No matter how busy which is totally an excuse because I made booking two weeks ago not at the day, right ?! I made booking two weeks ago and you said you are 365d 24/7 busy ?!?! I really Donnot think so. So overall , not recommended at all. I really hope they better stopped and do not happen to other customers as nobody know how important this Valentine's Day is for us this year. And the dinner time was totally ruined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

3. I was wondering they personally changed my booking , as teppanyaki need people seat together around one big table and the chef cooked for one big table. The guy picked my phone asked Me can 6.30pm? I told him have to 7pm. So he agreed booking for 2 at 7pm. But today , I am thinking it is quite probably that most people coming 6.30? while we were 7pm which means other people have to wait. I remember clearly that the guy in the phone asked me how many people we are if 7pm. I said 2. So I am really concerning that they personally changed my booking from teppanyaki to normal meals . Because of the time.

So Rubbish, and I did even not hear a sorry for the mistake they made to out dinner booking for our Valentine's Day !!!!!!!!!!

We booked in for this summer seafood for 2 from groupon, and it is an unforgettable experience. Service is really great. Waitresses are all Asian girls, and work so fast with pretty smile on the face. The food are impressive, rich in flavor and creative in combination. Especially enjoyed the kingfish sashimi. My husband and I agreed that's the hightlight of the menu. The lobster tail is quite big, and cooked on a hot stone in front of us, and that caught attention of several people dining there. Will recommend.

Kobe Jones will be closed down if what i experienced tonight continues.

The value of the meals is high versus actual quality (even on 50% promotional discount). Service is inconsistent, with explanations that are half truths and apply no logic or customer consideration.

E.g. set '3 person share menu' $98. 2 of the 9 dishes came with 8pcs (slices of fish) to share... when asked if it was a mistake for both dishes, we are told this is to share...
Question to management, why does someone always miss out?

I feel as if the business resents offering discounts to the public and probably affected the outcome of our meals including quality.
We were asked to forfeit a 50% discount inorder to be placed together as a group... when we arrived we were completely seperated despite having an available table next to each other set for the exact number (that is disgusting).

Opting to keep the promotion (originally offered by Kobe Jones) the experience was poor and handled horribly by staff.

The $90/100g AA9+ was questionable and disappointing but evidently expected given the eventful 3hr meal..

My list goes on and I am happy to share these with management if they want to improve.

Readers, if you do not see a response - please be warned and mark this helpful if you too are disappointed.

Nothing special. Went on the 50% TheFork offer without that don't bother as it is not worth the price. When getting a set menu for 3 persons at full price $79 pp we only got one small bowl of rice to share amongst ourselves, and served at the end! You can't even be sure that the serving is for 3. As it's served as share dishes, you could very well be getting the same thing whether paying for 3 or 4. The food was generally ok, although you can get ok at five times less price. The miso ribs was a disappointing main and unfortunately it was the bulk of the meal as everything else was so small.

---EDIT - In response to owner's reply: As a continuation of our review, seeing as the owner has responded in defensive tones, we clearly mentioned that we went on The Fork's offer and that it would not have been worth it at full price ($79 ph or $237 for 3).
The portions 'for 3' cannot have been more than a single serve of each course from the a-la-carte menu except for the Flaming Special, but even adding the extra one piece for that the cost is at least $40 more when ordering from the set menu!! Or maybe it was smaller because we were using an offer? In which case the answer is that you need to be genuine when offering deals, not cutting portions down by 50% just because it's 50% off.
The bowl of rice wasn't an accident of service either, but deliberate, as the server clearly said when putting the bowl down that this was all the rice to share. We even have a picture of the particular server which can be forwarded on request.
Something which wasn't mentioned before is also that the credit card surcharge is supposedly only 1% but effectively became 2% because it was taken off the full price and not what was actually paid. That is nonsensical and unacceptable, unreasonable behaviour.
The reason people leave reviews is to let others know what to expect and to point out any issues to the restaurant. Take feedback on board to improve rather than trying to rebut what customers are saying about things like value and quality...I can see there are a lot of one-star reviews and there is obviously a reason!
Now instead of just an uninspiring experience at a restaurant, the character shown - the defensiveness, sarcasm and poor reaction to feedback - has deterred us and has surely deterred and will continue to deter others from considering giving Kobe Jones another chance in the future, and just makes us more determined to warn others of what to expect.

It was a night to remember! It was our first teppanyaki experience and Kobe Jones didn't fail to deliver. The staff are ultra friendly and the atmosphere perfectly fits the place. We had this Autumn Leaves Degustation for the three of us and it was lovely. It's a 9-course meal of seafood. In the middle of the service, the chef accidentally forgot about one of our course. But the staff was kind and quick enough to remedy the situation. They were apologetic and offered us drinks and even sang me a happy birthday! The chef cooked precisely and really clean. The food were great as well as the cocktails. We plan to go back again for another degustation next season. We went in happy and we came out happier and heavier!
