Like any resort having snow makes all the difference and the great snow conditions made for fantastic skiing. There are only 3 lifts so if it is a busy weekend, the lift lines can get a little longer, especially at the gondola. There are many bowls and chutes with a higher percentage of advanced terrain. There are less groomed runs than many other resorts, so if you like the corduroy this might not be for you. If you like steeps, it has that in spades and has some great well spaced gladed runs. There is a good selection of on hill accommodation which is great. If you like the black diamonds you will love Kicking Horse. There is intermediate terrain so don't let that put you off, but for anyone looking for a bit more excitement this is a place to check out.

Fantastic ski place. We as a family had a great time. Good skiing and decent places to have a drink and eat. Great many different slopes with sufficient challenge for good skiers. Great to ski through the powder. Did not give 5 stars for 2 reasons: We did not have any fresh snow during the full week which did not help conditions, lots of rocks end of the week. Also it was annoying to have to pull out our epic card every time we used a lift, other resort just scan through your coat electronically. But end of the day we had a lovely holiday and can recommend. Btw, kids took group ski lessons and those were really good, can suggest to book some for your kids. Our kids learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

First of all the mountain is steep, understand that.
The views are gorgeous, pictures won't do it justice and you'll never get tired of them - when you're actually taking them in and not watching your line.
Ive only been riding for two years and was able to do some black runs, including the Swamp Donkey but it's not a place to mess around. There are some runs with no room for error so definitely respect the ride and learn the trails.
Last line for the gondola runs at 4:30 and it can take roughly an hour to fully descend so I recommend getting there when it opens.

Kicking Horse is world class. The terrain offers a challenge to even the most experienced riders, the facilities are phenomenal, and the staff is always fantastic. Thinking of booking a trip here? Do it, and if you get fresh snow it'll be the trip of a lifetime

Good terrain and awesome with a fresh dump. Black Diamond coffee shop is fantastic, gondola line up always long but moves fairly consistently. Great back country hiking options with obvious signs and ropes.

The view alone is worth coming! 360 degree of unobstructed view of the Rockies and Columbia valley!

Snow here is much dryer than BC coastal mountains i.e. Whistler Blackcomb. You need to be an advanced to expert skier/snowboarder to truly enjoy the vast off piste terrains. 4 bowls in total, many skiable runs. The only downside is the limited number of lifts, essentially only one gondola and one chair for the upper mountain. Hopefully future expansion will improve this.

We stayed at the Mountaineer Lodge, which is just to the left of the Eagle s Express gondola. Standard 2 bedroom condo with fully equipped kichen, washer and dryer. The beds are comfortable, linens fresh. Wifi and Netflix are provided free of charge. Locker room for ski is located on the main floor, with boot and glove dryers, yay! Hot tub is 10 person maximum, but it was never too crowded during our stay. Really enjoyed the dry sauna and steam room too! Food at the Eagle s Eye restaurant is surprisingly delicious, take advantage of the amazing view that comes with it!

It s our 2nd time staying in this resort, highly recommend if you like to ski some fine powder and challenging slopes! Price for lodging is very affordable too.

I love this resort. Check out the Pioneer chair on the far side of the base area- it is a secret gem IMHO. Ive hiked to T2 to ski the bowl. I havent scaled either ridge (T1 or T2) cause I dont have the stones fr those chutes! The gondola can be crowded so explore the lower mtn if youre new to the hill. Dont miss the view from the top of the gondola though...

This place is a wonderful rustic place to be in nature. You will need to give the staff extra time to check you in. Also, the lodge is not equiped to handle hot weather. No A/C.

Food was great at both the cafe and the bar.

Thank you to the patrol staffs for taking such a good care of my boyfriend after hitting his head seriously. They did everything right and took cared of me at the same time as I couldn't keep it together. Thanks again patrols for your amazing hard work!

Small resort: just 1 gondola + 1 chairlift if you take out the beginner / easier area at the foot of the mountain. But surprising amount of terrain and off piste access from the two summits. Definitely a more advanced mountain with generally a high skill level. The first time the World Freeriding competition came to north America it came here, so plenty of steep rides and big air for very advanced snow goers.

This is a mountain playground. Options are limited for the beginner skier, but there is a lot of fun terrain and varied steeps and treed runs for the intermediate-advanced skier. Also, as a spring skiing destination, this is an awesome resort, because there are so many slopes facing in different directions. You can always find great conditions and snow that's not sun-affected through the afternoon in spring. LOVE!

Run, run for everyone. Green, blue, black and double black. The double blacks are true to their word. I talked to a few people about their initial thoughts and they were all the same. If you've never been, prepare yourself for the vertigo you never knew you had. When you get to the top the two small trails will probably get to you to some degree. The gondola and the top chair are angled weird and may get to you a bit too. I got used to them pretty quick, but the first experience was a touch on the scary side. Don t worry if you find yourself snowplowing. Many people do.

Overall experience was good. There were only a few minor issues such as a lack of hand soap and tissues avalable. Otherwise the hotel was a nice stay and the shops and attractions were top notch!

What a beautiful place! Very friendly staff. Eagle laofge is beautiful with stunning views. Great place to hike. We will be back this winter! Simple things such as a water fountain to fill up water bottles are missing near the bathrooms and hiking trail maps feel incomplete. Disc golf course is a great start and with some better defined tee boxes will be a great course to play.

Great hill for expert skiers! There's a lot of steep stuff, but you do have to skate along traverses or hike to get to some of the more interesting spots, especially if you're in a snow drought, which does occasionally happen Out West these days.

If the weather is nice though, the top half of the mountain is pretty great. The elevation difference does sometimes mean the bottom can get pretty sloppy, so stick to the top if its warm and wet.

I've never stayed in the on-hill accommodation, but it looks pretty much the same as the typical RCR hills like Fernie. The town of Golden is a bit industrial, its not like the polished tourist centres in Banff or the sort of towns that Intrawest has built around its hills, but there is plenty of lodging and some nice restaurants (there's a Greek place that is really good).

It's also pretty stunning at the top, the mountain is right on the Rocky Mountain Trench, a broad valley that separates the Rockies from the Columbia Mountains. If you look over the far side of the mountain you can see for many kilometres. If you aren't socked in with freshly falling snow, it's got to be one of the best views in the Rockies.

You can't beat the beautiful mountain setting and the gorgeous homes in the neighborhood, but the landscaping could use some attention. The yards of most homes are overgrown with weeds. You'll also see a lot of weeds and unkempt grasses/scrub bushes all around the commercial areas. Fine in the wintertime, but they need to think about what people see when they visit in the summer. We came in July and the whole development had the feel of a ghost town. Hardly anybody there.

Easily accessed hikes to terminator 1 and terminator 2. Awesome views. Terrain is steep and powder can be found stashed in the bowls if you know where to look in those days between snowfalls.

Poorly thought out lift system, bottleneck at bottom of the hill means long queues. They let Visa Priviledge card holders jump the que, like your 100 dollars a day isn't enough. You can't lap the advanced terrain at the top without returning to the bottom.

I've been to all the hills in kootenays and rockies in Canada and this was my least favourite.

Beautiful resort. We took the gondola ride to the grizzly reserve and watched their grizzly playing while we learned about the status of the bears in North America. We also took a ride to the top of the mountain and hiked to one of the mountain peaks. I wanted to eat a meal at the eagles eye restaurant on the mountain peak, but it was extremely busy -- be sure to book a reservation. Plenty of trails to bike down in the summer as well.

Anyone looking for challenges on skis is at the right place here.
Lots of opportunities for freeriders.
The descents require some courage.
Double Diamont Black. Furs are helpful for many a climb.
You can spend two days here.

Decent resort, good runs. My only complaint is that they have a very poor selection for beginners. The only run to learn on besides a mediocre bunny hill is as steep as a blue run. My boyfriend paid for a lesson which was suppose to be private, since he skied a few times already. Last minute they threw in a couple in who was skiing for their first time. I noticed my boyfriend spent a lot of time waiting for the instructor and the other couple to catch up. He was on his own most of the time on the bunny hill. Into the last hour I was snowboarding down the bigger hill and saw my boyfriend had taken his skies off and was sitting half way down the hill. I asked him where the group was and he said he had been waiting for 20 minutes, and the guy in the lesson was not experienced enough to go down the hill so it was taking forever for them to catch up. My boyfriend was told to just wait for them. We waited another 25 minutes and his group didn t come down but other instructors who passed us said they were still coming down, just slow and talking a lot. Eventually his lesson was out of time and we decided to just go down on our own and let the ski school know we waited and they never caught up. It was frustrating that half our money was spent sitting waiting for a dumbass pansy to get his ass down the hill, but whatever. The instructor was nice, I don t think it was his fault. They just need to coordinate experience groups better. It s not fair to charge customers then not teach them.

Experienced Holy Matrimony on the mountaintops of Kicking Horse, everything was beautiful.
Great chefs, waitresses, and service.
Beautiful scenery, Recommend adding a telescope centre on the mountaintops for an additional crowd attraction and business opportunity!

The resort it gorgeous with a variety of fun activities. Lack of communication on what is open and where things are. Guest services was confusing and didn't know that our lodge didn't have a steam room or sauna. Winston bar was amazing, rooms are nice, totally worth the visit. Some places are closed but not posted online as closed so we had to wander around looking for open restaurants

Great overall mountain. You need to hike if you want to get to most of the bowls. Huge selection of terrain and all on the more advanced level. Lift lines are small with basically just two lifts that are used primarily. We stayed at a chalet in the village that was ski and ski out so we didn't try any of the restaurants or bars. We did go to summits bar. It has fantastic views but is super expensive.

I've traveled to Kicking Horse from Ontario about 5 times now, I haven't gotten tried of it yet. I'm a seasoned snowboarder who is use to places like Tremblant and small Ski Resort around Ontario so it is amazing to travel to Kicking Horse to take on a mountain. Even their easiest runs are challenging and at some points a bit daunting. If you are just learning to snowboard or ski I would not recommend coming to Kicking Horse. At best you will be taking off your gear and walking certain spots and at worst can get yourself into serious trouble. There is not a lot stopping you from going from a green run to a double black diamond in a hurry.

We went to kicking horse for some mountain biking. The trails were great with a lot of variety and the rental staff were awesome to deal with.

Unfortunately the amenities left something to be desired. Perhaps it was the time of year we went and the resort caters to the winter sports season more.

We stayed in the palliser hotel for around $140 CAN dollars for the night. The blinds were broken, the wifi didn't work, our toilet didn't work half the time, the bathroom sink didn't drain, and the sliding glass door didn't lock. Maybe a one off room, but for the price I expect things in the hotel room to work properly. A plus on the rooms is they come with some basic appliances (microwave , kettle, toaster, fridge, kitchen sink, cutlery, and glasses) so you can bring some basic foods to "cook", which you may want to do.

We ate at the Winston bar and grill. The staff were amazing, but the food...just sucked. Got the burger and it was a greasy store bought patty and freezer fries which cost 20 dollars. We couldn't finish them. Honestly, if you want a burger, you'll want to head down to the McDonald's in town because they have a better burger than Winston's.

We also found that there isn't much to do around Golden in the summer unless you go up the gondola, which may not be a surprise.

Over all, I enjoyed the staff and the biking, everything else was pretty underwhelming. You might have a better experience in the winter. If you're looking for a better summer time adventures, try Panorama, it's not to much further and we had a much better time in the summer.
