A staple to visit when you're in NY. Not only is the food amazing and the portion generous, but the staff are super friendly and the deli has a very fun atmosphere. The only thing to note is that the price is pretty steep for a corn beef sandwich, but it's plenty for two to share.

I can t say enough about how much the staff make you feel welcomed and how helpful they are. There s no point talking about true food because everyone knows it s the most amazing pastrami you ve ever tasted!
Need cash for more pastrami:) Tip the sandwich maker before you ask for what you want, do not miss out on the beef tongue with russian dressing or however you like it;)
Fantastic place with really great food. The corned beef sandwich is amazing. Make sure to avoid going during lunch time because the place gets incredibly packed.
Prices are high, but for the quality and quantity you are receiving they are worth it.
My family and I used to come here since the earlier parts of the decade. Katz s was a enjoyable time for our whole family. However, our experience today was truly disheartening. The cutter chatted with other employees instead of prioritizing our food. He also took his time and almost put the sandwiches on the wrong bread, and the meat was cut so thickly that it was difficult for all of us to consume. With 4 sandwiches over $100, we expected much more in terms of quality. Customer service as well was very poor; the staff did not try at all to help us know where to pay and the entire system has become very disorganized. We have to agree with other reviews that Katz s has become nothing more than a tourist trap. Please take our words to heart and change things before it s too late.
Excellent! I enjoyed my food after peak hours (3pm). Half sandwich and matzo ball soup was the perfect amount to then order a slice of New York cheese cake. Everything was delicious and the staff was very friendly. First time to NYC? Try and order at the counter, they give you tasters.
Best damn pastrami sandwich I've ever had!!! It's worth the price and long lines. Everything I had here was delicious but the pastrami was out-of-this-world good!
It's a New York institutionand has the best pastrami in the U.S! It's a must do in New York. Just don't lose your ticket. You'll understand when you visit.
Best pastrami sandwich you will ever have. Period. You have to visit this place when in NYC east village. So good and very authentic. Try a non peak hour so it is easier to get a seat.
Very slow service, no seating available, overpriced and the meat was dry and tasteless. My 2nd visit after a decent 1st visit a few months before and never going back again. No idea what the problem was on this day but once bitten, twice shy. Totally overrated.
I've been coming to Katz's delicatessen for 33 years my brother took me on my 21st birthday and I'm never ever gone to another place to get a corn beef on rye with mustard. The best I've ever had glad it's in New York City
The best corned beef or pastrami sandwich you will ever have. It is $21+. It is worth it! Have them slice it thick. If you want anything else (do not get a hamburger like my future mother-in-law!) then get the sandwich last so it stays warm.
Katz's is a must see when you are in town. This classic diner is famous for its pastrami and salami. And they are excellent! But don't loose your ticket.
Iconic place. Loads of options to choose from. The place is huge and is very famous for their Pastrami. But unfortunately, they're only good at their signature dishes. It's not for people who don't eat pastrami. We had the turkey sandwich, and it was just an ordinary sandwich. I can't comment on their best dishes, as I didn't have them. The Matzo ball soup is supposed to be famous, but it's just too bland, although the broth was good.
Amazing food! Ask for the fatty pastrami sandwich. Service is very slow although the people are nice albeit impatient so take the time while you're waiting for a table to decide on your order. Not cheap.
Famous NYC deli with a lot of history. Huge portions, especially the classic pastrami or corned beef sandwiches (which are the main attraction). A full sandwich can easily serve two adults. House-made pickles are amazing.
Above average pastrami sandwich at an extremely inflated price (almost $23 for 1 sandwich). However, it's hard to put a price tag on the experience that is Katz's. Would I eat here again? Probably not. Would I recommend trying Katz's at least once? Absolutely
Katz is the most over priced, rudest",you should be happy to be here place"....it just a big old sandwich!! Same meat/cold cuts you get at any deli!..I lived right around the corner on Ludlow....Not worth the degradation.......
Overpriced tourist trap that I don't understand the appeal for, staff needs to stop being so rude if prices are going to go up each year. Pastrami used to be $16 it's in the low $20s now, hard to justify such a price hike so fast.
This place is one of my favourite places to eat whenever I visit Manhattan. Love the sandwiches here, and the old school butcher interior is always fun to look at. Highly recommended!
I am not a meat person, but I had the best roast beef and salami sandwiches here. Came to this place while waiting for our table in Clinton St. Baking Company. Met the owner and took picture with him as well as the table made famous by the movie 'When Harry Met Sally".
Don't go during lunch time or be prepared to be in total chaos. Try their pastrami. Don't lose your ticket. Ask for gravy on the side. Be prepared to be in a food coma. Bring cash. Enjoy.
I was really excited to try Katz's and honestly it was really good, now would I drive from VA to NY just to eat there, probably not, but if I"m back in the city and the line isn't long, I'd definitely go back. It took us about 15 minutes waiting in line, just to get into the building and another 10 to 15 minutes to order. 1st time there, it's kind of confusing, but you figure it out pretty fast. I had a combo of cornbeef and pastrami and honestly it was really good. The place is bigger than what looks and we found seating in the back. I also had bottled Lemonade/Ice Tea and it was so good I got another. Not sure of the sandwich is worth $20, but it was really good.
My husband says this is the best pastrami sandwich in NY and we go every time we visit here. It sure is big !! A real dive but institution that can't be beat for a real NY deli sandwich experience!! It's a fun experience!! You have to go...
This is a staple that everyone should visit at least once. A callback from simpler times. That said I don't think their food, seating, service and experience warrant the prices.
We got a large stack of meat in our sandwiches and were set lose to sit anywhere, cafeteria style. All the decor in Katz's hearkens to 1960s.
In conclusion, this is definitely a New York gem you should try at least once but only to experience a different zeitgeist.
Ok, just the very best, the amazing best. The iconic best with the best food. Try he pastrami or corned beef and remember to tip the cutter for a super sandwich with a Little appetizer.
Love the pastrami Reuben, when you first enter they give you a ticket for each person, make sure you keep it they used this to track what you order. Then you used that ticket to pay and leave the place and you return any unused tickets to the cashier. You can go to the counter to the cutter or sit on the table and get served by a waitress. I recommend going to the cutter you can see all the meats that they cut and they give you some sample meats to try. Highly recommend the pastrami it's so flavorful and goes great with the mustards that they have on the table.
The Katz's Delicatessen I knew before was way better. The pastrami was more leaner and tasted better. Today the pastrami is more fatty and more expensive than it was then, so the place seems overrated now. Lines are too long to wait on for a sandwich but the times I do get to enjoy it, it's just simply not worth the 26$ a sandwich and the long wait. Nevertheless it's still a good Kosher deli that's been around for years and years.
corned beef was tasteless and had an effy smell. the ticket policy is so confusing. they had a big security guy standing at the door to check upon you like a criminal making sure you paid your bill. Avoid this tacky place!
A very spacious deli, but there is room for improvements. Everything is just way too overpriced and the place is not exactly clean. Ordering food is so complicated here because there are different lines for different types of orders. The food is ok, but I've definitely had better deli food. And this place doesn't even have chicken parm! What kind of deli doesn't have chicken parm????
The pastrami sandwich is a must and frankfurter hot dogs are out of the world. Should surely visit if you are a food lover. But it is a bit pricey though
Omg!! The pastrami was amazing!! Wasn't sure what a deli sandwhich would be like, but this was awesome!!! The pastrami was like a mix of brisket, and bacon!!! Wow!
Wonderful experience, great food. .. my eyes were bigger than my stomach! Ordered way to much but ate it all Just like I remembered. .BTW they take credit cards now. ..no problem.
The corned beef melts in your mouth here. When you go in you get a ticket.. hold on to that ticket and DO NOT lose it. Then you go to the counter to order / ask for a menu. You can ask them to try the meats before you order. You order then give the ticket for them to write your order on it. Every person gets a ticket, so if you're paying together you can use one... but still do not throw the ticket out. The service is fast and it's more like a cafeteria where you have to clean up after yourself after you eat. It's super informal and a quick bite. The dining area is huge and may be overwhelming for introverts hah. I would love if the bread was a bit crunchier or more exciting, but the corned beef is definitely a love of mine here. Will come back if craving more!
Big portions, very filling, however for us it was a bit too much and we left half of it in the plate. I would still recommend it, the meat it was soft and juicy.
As great as advertised! Got a pastrami and a salami sandwich as well as a bowl of matzo ball soup. This place was fantastic, bustling, very much whay you would expect in NYC. Father in law dropped his sandwich and plate and got harassed by the throngs of people in the restaurant, it was great! Unfortunately was so excited about eating forgot to take pics of the food.
A constantly busy old-school New York sandwich place. Prepare to wait quite a bit holding an old-school paper number waiting for your reuben sandwich. The wait is worth every penny.
World famous for a reason. Incredible food with a unique vibe. Ordering is a bit confusing at first, but once you get it it's awesome. Definitely recommend this place if you are in New York!
