Mixed feelings about this place. Given the location, conditions and circumstances the structure looked very well taken care of. Hope to visit this place again when there are no terrorism and wars.

Yes, some of the locals have itchy rockets and mortars, but they did try to keep us entertained. The much maligned poo pond wasn't that bad either. The first smell was awful, but on the good side, every breath after smelled like boiled eggs! We liked to drive past it with the windows partially rolled down without telling the new guys what was coming. Honestly, the trucks that cleaned out the porta-potties were far worse as far as smell goes. Heat, dust, sub-par pizza, boredom in large quantities, the color green being scarce and pot holes are some other things on the negative side. On the other side of the coin, Tim Horton's, TGI Friday's, and KFC. Outback Steakhouse even fed the base one time while I was there, and for that, I am truly thankful. I also made friends there, met people from many different countries, had some good times at the bazaar and got to see some things that I don't expect I'll ever see again. Many of the guys I worked with, despite saying they never wanted to come back to Afghanistan, soon expressed an interest in doing just that after getting home.

OK the food and the smell are peaty bad. The coustmer service sucks because they are too busy making bombs to hear your complaint. Also its heard to get a good night sleep with all the parting the locals are doing. They must think its 4th of July because they are always shooting rockets.

In 2003-2004. I had visited this wonderful airfield/resort. The occasional sand storms did wonders with exfoliate effects to my skin. Plenty of opportunities to improve your tan if you can appreciate the farmers tan. The eateries were not so impressive. During my time there was 2 dining facilities. The larger of the 2 was generally open 4x a day form your dining and dancing needs. The resort also tried to offer a health spa/fishing excursions. Lake la-poo pond offers some of the finest mud baths and opportune fishing for brown trout in the area. During my stay there was a wide variety or guest entertainment ranging from NASCAR drivers, NFL cheerleaders, pro wrestlers, different musicians. To be honest all of which really didn't catch my interest due to the lack of service this resort has where I was forced to preform daily tasks during this vacation experience my recruiter had promised. I did however take the opportunity to see the late Robin Williams.
For your shopping experience there was very few options form this international resort. The main one offered some home like comfort where you could buy electronics and clothing. My biggest gripe was some employee that went by "lieutenant" insisted to buy up and the kid size tee shirts. The other shopping area was run by the locals who generally sold such high quality movies still found in theaters. These same locals are extremely friendly. They try To compeate to much with Disney however with their frequent fire works. Usually these were not impressive enough to pay attention to but the employees insisted we still stop and watch from our assigned seats.
This resort also offers a very impressive gym with lots to offer. Unfortunately this is also where the lieutenant was mostly hanging out at displaying his kids t shirts as if it was some trophy. We get it you bought all the damn kids shirts there is no reason to rub it in sir. During my visit the best place to recommend visiting Is the coffee shop great place to gamble your money away as you enjoy a coffee and even a biscotti. In my recommended its not a bad resort but get it in writing on how long of a visit you plan for. Our flight was canceled twice and forced to wait months for the next available flight.

Kandahar International Airport (Pashto: ...

Kandahar International Airport (Pashto: ; referred to by ISAF as Kandahar Airfield, KAF) (IATA: KDH, ICAO: OAKN) is located 9 nautical miles (17 km; 10 mi) south-east<refname=aip> of Kandahar City in Afghanistan. It serves as the nation's second main international airport and as one of the largest military bases, capable of housing up to 250 aircraft of all type.[3]

The airport was designed and built by the United States in the late 1950s. It was occupied by the Soviets during the 1980s Soviet war in Afghanistan. Following their withdrawal the airport remained in control of Najibullah's government until he stepped down in 1992. Thereafter, local warlords and the Taliban took control of the airport until the U.S.-led invasion in late 2001. It was also the site of the Indian Airlines Flight 814 incident in 1999.

Since 2007, the airport has been repaired and expanded.[3] It is used for both military and civilian flights. The airport is maintained by the Resolute Support Mission and the Afghan Air Force. The 2nd Wing of the Afghan Air Force (AAF) has a separate base within the airport ground. The Afghan National Police provides security inside the passenger terminal.

The food and weather were nothing to write home about. It was cooler than Helmand during the Summer, due to the relatively higher elevation. Daily rocket attacks were no fun. A dud nailed the TGIFridays aboard the boardwalk.

I watched a lot of basketball and volleyball games while I was relaxing with the Queens Royal Lancers. Interesting memories from 2010-2011 over there. ISAF era. Roshan was much better than Afghan Wireless.

I thought I was coming here for an all expense paid vacation in the sand but when I arrived it turned out to be a shitty dust bowl! I was promised a Sandals type experience with multiple eateries and fun activities but the eateries all tasted like the same flavor of cardboard and the activities were mostly dealing with natives who had shot each other to pieces!

I went back to the airport and submitted a complaint but evidently I was booked with the cheapest ticket and it cannot be changed. I'll have to make the most of things until then.

Unfortunately when I tried to layout in my shorts and get some sun, this very rude employee who called himself "Master Sergeant" started yelling about not wearing the right outfit or something. I think he was trying to keep me from getting sunburned but he could have been nicer about it. He was probably upset like me about none of these restaurants having drinks.

I'll have to see if I can get a side trip arranged out to some place called Leatherneck, I heard at least there they have fun firecrackers on the ground that are like big Snap n' Pops.

The locals are very hospitable. They arrange semi-nightly fireworks shows for their guests, although I normally do not enjoy the shows. They usually come crashing to the ground, mutilating innocent bystanders. Albeit, still a very accommodating culture. Nothing says "welcome to our country" more than a platoon of AUP shooting into crowds to clear the road so me and my friends can pass through

Between the prostitution at hotel Kandahar...there really is a hotel on K.A.F. caller hotel Kandahar, the never ending smell of the acres of burning trash outside the E.C.P. slowly giving you cancer and the P.O.G.'s doing ungodly embarrassingly stupid things this place ain't too bad.

They should call this place C.A.B. instead of K.A.F. because every P.O.G. in the army hears an explosion miles away and blanket C.A.B.'s for everybody!!!
