Many times, I m near JOHNNY S, when I m hungry. So I usually stop. But, I m a bit disappointed tonight. I had the butter squash soup and meatloaf dinner. And someone who cooks here, must loved black pepper! The was too much bp in the soup, the meatloaf and the mashed potatoes!

I was pleasantly surprised by many things at this diner. I expected the typical greasy breakfast fare but Johnny's offered much more. Unique twists on the everyday mimosa--go for the Lilosa; fancy flapjacks and french toast (I recommend the pumpkin flapjacks or coconut french toast); and Jewish specialties--my favorite food of everything I tried here were the potato latkes. Additional bonuses: breakfast is served all day long and Johnny has his beer and wine license.

Great experience. We actually ate inside with plenty of separation in between other clients. Very clean and everyone following the Covid-19 safety rules. The food was really good, I tried the Ruben an my wife an avocado/pesto sandwich. Highly recomend it.

We go here at least once a week because the food is great and the people who work there are friendly. They don't have american cheese though, but this is not enough to deduct a star. Not sure why a diner would not have american cheese. Otherwise, an excellent place to eat.

Update: They now have American cheese!

This restaurant is super cute and authentic. The staff is incredibly helpful, spunky and fun, and most importantly the food is fantastic.
It s inexpensive and the options are vast (almost too vast; picking is extremely difficult haha). Plus I m a big fan of their mini milkshakes for when you only want a few sips instead of half a meal.
100% will revisit.

Very nice and vintage American breakfast place. The food was absolutely delicious and the waiters were very nice and fast. The prices were very fair and I liked the interior of this restaurant. I would definitely recommend you this place if you want to have good breakfast.

Been going here for 11 years and and every new foodie I take loves the breakfast. My favorite is the crunchy French toast and the hearty and thick sweet potato fries served with any breakfast dish that they will make the way u like it so you leave happy and full until it is time to return for dinner!!

Wonderful breakfast and lunch spot! I've never been here in-person, but discovered them as a place with gluten-free options, during the pandemic. Their omelettes and sandwiches are delicious and they have fun shakes. It's nice to have these gf options! Their deliveries are always fast, neatly packaged and still hot.

Love the food, hate the service. I've ordered matzo ball soup many times from here because it tastes very good. But on occasion, I'll order without the matzo balls, for plain old chicken soup. Yesterday when I ordered a quart to go, the owner gave me a hard time about not wanting matzo balls, since he didn't listen and added them to my order. I asked for a new order. When I got home to eat, he basically gave me $11 worth of broth, there was hardly any chicken/carrots/noodles in the soup. Looks like I'll be finding some place new to bring my business.

Breakfast here was fantastic! The Blueberry muffin was toasted (top and bottom separately) and was a fantastic meal. The service was great and I would highly recommend this Diner to anyone looking for a quality breakfast.

What a great pkace to have breakfast for dinner. Wait staff was excellent and food was delicious. I had toasted Coconut French toast with Strawberries. Real Maple syrup is served for a nominal charge and well worth it. Can't wait to go again.

The burgers are twice as much as the burgers at Five Guys, and about half as good.
The interior is dark and cold.
The waitress was good, the two guys up front were weird and basically stared at our party the entire meal.
One of our burgers was ordered "medium" and arrived pink and squishy in the middle. Of course, we only figured that out after it had been consumed, resulting in food poisoning for rest of the day.
The other burgers were fine, but not great. For $10, you expect a really good burger, but it was pretty generic.
The fries were pretty squishy.
They don't put much ice in the drinks, which might be a plus for some people.
We ended up paying $60 for four people, but $30 at Five Guys would have been much better spent.

One of my favorite breakfast spots in the area. The food is usually terrific and it's coffee is really good for a diner (often diners/breakfast spots skimp on the coffee but not Johnny's). Be mindful of when you go as they are usually busy during the weekend breakfast/brunch hours, but the wait is definitely worth it. The staff is usually attentive and polite. Big fan of this place!

Had a great lunch there today. I ordered the Larry David (pastrami sandwich). A great sandwich! The service was also great. Sat outside and enjoyed it so much. Also our server was super nice and very pleasant!!

This place has been around for my whole life. I have never been a big fan. I think the food is not that great but very over priced. The interior hasn't been updated in forever, which is part of it's charm - retro. The walls are filled with old Newton school class photos so you might find someone in there that you know. I went back recently because it's under new ownership but it's still the same. I'll wait for them to update the menu and cook better food.

Wow, what a difference from what it used to be.

Wow, what a difference from what it used to be.
We haven't been here in over a year and it's not the same place. Even a simple tihng like a cheeseburger - was burned despite the fact we ordered medium. I think this was the last time we came here

Johnny's is a step up from your average greasy diner, with fabulous french fries, a variety of food (including breakfast all day), and sandwiches served on their incredible challah bread. Brunch at Johnny's is a crowded affair, so I recommend coming for a very casual weekday dinner to avoid the wait and the screaming kids. Expect to pay a bit more than other diners, but the quality of food will be worth it.

Great breakfast spot right in the heart of Newton Center. Service is quick and every time I've gone in there I'm greeted with a smile and piping hot coffee. Can be busy especially on school holidays but more often than not I am seated immediately. Johnnys also has bar seating which really ties the retro theme they are going for together.

Standard dinner grub in a kid friendly environment. The grilled muffins and fresh donuts are wonderful. There is beer and wine. Go with what you know: they are better at the everyday stuff than the adventurous stuff.

Amazing atmosphere and has a very vibrant interior. Service is also very fast and friendly. There was a line as well during breakfast and that s how you know this place is good. They do all the classics very well.

Since its my first time I always like to test the waters with classic breakfast items. The eggs were perfectly cooked to what I asked. The sausage links had a slight char and crunch with a succulent meaty chew. The bacon was perfect too. Crispy but not oily at all. The only gripe I had was with the pancakes. This may just be a personal preference but in my opinion, the pancakes were a bit on the heavy and dense side. I prefer it to be light and airy so it soaks up the syrup. Other than that everything else was amazing! I would no doubt come back. The other items on the menu are enticing me to come back and try them.

Grace was an amazing and friendly server. The food service is quick but doesn't feel rushed. The menu has great options, including locally sourced and eco-friendly food. I highly recommend this place and will be back frequently.
