Johnny's Dock Restaurant & Marina Review

Johnny's is an institution, and definitely worth a visit from time to time. The food is good, but unfortunately, it's not great, and it's not very inventive. The portions are not large, but they are enough to fill you up. The quality is good, even if the preparation is a bit lacking. The service isn't at the etiquette level it should be. Although, they are attentive, and friendly, they tend more towards a Denny's vibe rather than an upscale fish restaurant. I really think Johnny's would benefit from improving the wait staff experience, and perhaps spicing up the menu.

Love this hidden gem, great food, spectacular views and an amazing outside deck. We will come back for more great evening's here.

Went on a Sunday night, the music was wonderful and the food was great. Highly recommended I'll go again.

What happened to Johnnys Dock!?!? I haven't been there for 5 years and the appearance and quality of the restaurant is shocking!! I grew up going to Johnnys with my parent's as a family, and continue to go as an adult. I just left there sad and disappointed and will not be going back. The crab dip is horrible and taste manufactured, so i decided not to continue on with dinner. I miss the good ole' days!!!!!

Old decor, which is too bad given prime location. Slow service. Food OK for price, but better options abound on Pacific and down Ruston Way. Seemed like the place for senior citizens to go because they went there back in the day.

We will not return. We waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged and that was by a young man who told us someone would be with us. Same young man eventually returned, said there was a mix up, apologized, and said we would be compensated and we were not. When we were finally helped, we were very disappointed on a Sunday afternoon to be shown the "bartender's breakfast menu". We'd already had breakfast and were looking forward to a nice meal. Settled for the tasteless fish and chips and the slaw was a small, why bother amount. The waiter was friendly and attentive once he finally got to us but overall not a good experience.

GREAT FOOD! Nice scenic view of the boat harbor. Huge open windows overlooking the city and the Glass Museum. Try the French Dipped sandwich!

Our server Reggie was attentive and kind. Our food came pretty quickly and the presentation was nice. Value to cost was not bad also.

Always great. Excellent seafood and steak. People out east know of Lowery's, we have Johnnys. Yes, Johny's Seasoning Salt comes from here. I prefer it to the Ruston way places because of a quieter atmosphere amongst other things.

Not worth the money we had to pay. Employees didn't seem to enjoy their work very much and we, as the customers, felt that. Rude waitress, average food - will never go there again.

Cuba sandwiche was killed by the dill pickle. The coffee was terrible full of coffee grounds how could this be fresh? Your waitress said even after stareing at the grounds. Thanks for the water.

A Saturday early evening in the summertime visit made me love Tacoma. Cool breeze, great music, great staff. I ordered the lamb chops with mint jelly, baked potatoe, baby cabbages, asparagus, and it was to die for! Can't wait to go back and try something else. Worth the drive from Seattle in traffic.

First time visiting this place was during summer. It was busy. Horrible service. Thought we'd try it one more time. Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy. Food was fine but service was Extremely slow. Lunch should never take two hours. Won't be going back. Sewer leak stunk up the place

Was there on a Saturday night. Menu had a few common seafood choices; solid, nothing special. Good fish and chips, coleslaw. Tasty chowder. No steak choices, which was a bit surprising. Server was busy, but attentive. Prices are high, but not ridiculous.

Mussels were old and some didnt even open (sign of dead mussel). Had a couple and they were rubbery and broth was way too salty and tasteless otherwise. Crabcakes were not fresh either. Tasted old and previously frozen. Waitress said "I get it, I dont like seafood so never can recommend what you ordered". Have some professionalism! Will never be going back. Has gone downhill!

Fabulous food, Ambience.. Great Drinks.. Service was Better than out of the Park.. We had a couple of Questions an the Chef came out to Discuss the Lobster.. WOW..

Great food, great atmosphere! Had our son's graduation dinner here. They were able to seat 16 of us and were very accommodating.

This restaurant was crazy, busy! Best to make reservations. This place was busy due to the Elton John concert happening that nite. We had reservations and were seated fairly quickly. We ordered and the food arrived within 30 minutes. Salmon was good, but not quite cooked how I liked it. Wedge salad excellent. Service was decent. Then we stopped in 4 days later and the food was just ok. Probably a different cook, we ordered the same thing, but the salmon was totally different in taste and texture. Although, the service was generally good.
The mark of a great restaurant is that the food is consistently cooked and prepared each and every time.

Needs a update. We had lunch in the bar. Food was good.

Casual dining with a menu with something for everyone. My husband had the clam chowder and I had the smoked brie bacon fig jam pannini. Both were outstanding. The wait staff was friendly, helpful and informative. Prices were reasonable and the view of the marina and city was quite enjoyable. We would definitely return.

The view is great. The service is friendly and outstanding! The food is high quality and DELICIOUS. Oh and to top it off the Johnny's seasonings originated there so you can purchase seasonings right there on your way out.

Came here on my birthday in an afternoon at 4pm. From the water this place looked welcoming. I was told to seat myself anywhere, the place was almost empty. But then I was asked to move to a different table to allow, for a party of 6 that later never showed up. To me that is a one star service, the food was fine, came out quickly.

I was there with about 8 other people on Friday, February 15 at 1:00 for a luncheon with some friends. I ordered an item off the special irish menu - a corned beef sandwich with irish cole slaw. While the meat in the sandwich was sliced very thick (nice), it had a lot of fat on it. The irish cole slaw turned out to be only sliced lettuce. The pickle was good. Since we had a larger group, we were charged an automatic 20% gratuity. Obviously, this is great for the wait staff because they get their tip but don't have to worry about taking care of us. I saw the waitress 3 times: when she took my order, when I got my food and when she brought the bill. All in all, a bad culinary experience. Will not go there again.

Loved sitting out at the dock by the marina - such a beautiful setting ! Delicious food, amazing staff.

Food is overpriced for being so lackluster. Table service was extremely nice and attentive but the older host is ??? I m younger and tattooed and I think the attitude she had was in response to that. No intention of returning.

Excellent dinner, food, drinks, and service. A five star dinner with, boats and water views. A Tacoma classic. Best prime rib in town.

Love happy hour. The remodel has opened up the bar to a patio.

Been going to Johnny's for over 45 years, never had a bad experience

Had a dinner with a large group of people (30 or so). Johnny's Dock confirmed the reservation the day before and assigned two servers to take care of us. The food came out in a reasonable period of time; kudos to the cooks for the timing and the servers for getting it to the table while it was still hot!
Johnny's Dock has been in downtown Tacoma for as long as I can remember and has excellent food.

We were not from the area, Thankfully the food was good! Are waitress was very kind, but we felt a bit out of place,and definitely felt like we were outsiders! It took about 20 minutes to get seated, and almost two hours to get our food. coming from a competition, myself, and my girls were very tired! I can say that the food was very good, and unfortunately, I did not exactly know what I was ordering, and our waitress was nice enough to ask if I wanted something else, but I felt bad, and didn t have time to wait. As a waitress/ bartender I would say it was not as clean as I would expect, four tables around me sat dirty, to the point I wanted to get up, and help them clean up! It could have been a rough day for the staff it was st Patty s day, and I know how busy we get at my place of work!

Great foods, great atmosphere, reasonable price, and great complimentary tea and treats on Sat brunch! We had smoke salmon egg benedict, blueberries french toast with bacon.

Charbroiled salmon fillet was amazing. Boyfriend had the chicken fettuccini and he was happy but wasn't a huge fan of the mushrooms. Still ate it all.

Good food, great service! and Wow! I was able to hear the conversation of my table mates. I will return to this restaurant.

First time here for me and girlfriend to celebrate 7 year anniversary and all I can say is 5 stars and Rick was a awesome server he really out did his self and made us feel like regulars definitely will be back again

Today, 1/23/18, is my 66th Birthday and I don't have anyone to share it with. I found out Uber Eats delivers so I went on their website and there were LOTS of restaurants Uber delivers from. WAYYYY back in 1969 my big sister lived in Tacoma and I was still in high school back in Illinois. My dad sent me out for a visit to see my sister and she and her hubby took me to Johnnies Dock for dinner back then. I remembered them and saw that Uber delivered. Make a long story short, Johnnies did a FABULOUS job on my delivery order....they even included some extra stuff cuz I had let them know on my order today was my birthday. THEY ARE AWESOME!!! I have at least 4 meals here with all I got (PORTIONS ARE HUGE!!!) For a little old lady who can't walk so well due to strokes, this restaurant really made my day so so much nicer and happier!! EAT THERE!!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! GOD BLESS ALL OF THE KIND EMPLOYEES WHO WORK THERE!!!
