Lots of artifacts and displays, but an overt anti-American bias. Many of the interpretive texts might as well have been written by La Raza, or other resentful anti-American groups (aka leftists). For example, the interpretations of the history of Texas presented here and at the Alamo couldn't be more strikingly different.

It's def overhyped but probably the few local attractions that isnt sports or food related. The museum itself is a history museum of St Louis. The information regarding the history behind the Arch is very vague and inconclusive. I walked thru the whole thing and didnt find a placard that explained why the Arch was built (i deducted to be political motives) and how long it took (found that answer on the souvenir shop coin machine).

Was very affordable and we went in the afternoon during the week. We took a tram ride up to the top. About 4mins up, 3 mins down. Very pretty and definitely a sight to see. But you will only probably be at the top for 10 minutes.

It isn't bad, but going through security seems to be an unnecessary inconvenience. The focus should be geared more toward providing visitors with information regarding activities, fees and other information that may be of interest to them.

A very informative museum of U.S. westward expansion told from many points of view. Lots of interactive displays for children and adults to enjoy. A true history buff could spend a few hours here lost in the information, or a family with children could go through at a faster pace and everyone would still benefit. Plus, it is FREE!

I really enjoyed it. I was wondering how they shuttled people to and from the top, and I finally found out. I don't want to give away any details, I want you guys to find out for yourselves! Super fun with some good views..

This is a special place for anyone interested in Engineering. What a marvel, using old-fashioned mathematics to create a 630 ft tall arch that perfectly meets in the center. Crazy mechanism to get you to the top, and beautiful views over the city.

We went to the museum the weekend after it had reopened. It was packed! Navigation through it was simple and easy to understand. The museum includes a wide variety of history and artifacts that is so interesting! Worth the time and effort to go through it!

Absolutely amazing museum. Highly informative and educational. I had no idea how the role St Louis had played in our history, and how progressive it was with racism and equal rights compared to the rest of the country. Well laid out and organized. I needed to allocate more time as I had no idea how large the museum was and the amount of information available. Planning a trip back just to spend the day here and also go to the top of the arch!

It's a great place to visit and discover. The view is just breathtaking. And the museum underneath is absolutely great. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were not allowed to go on the top, but you can visit the museum.

Love this Area, the Arch is beautiful as is the Riverfront, still doing some construction, but I cannot wait to see it when it is all done, had a great time strolling down the Riverfront!

Do you know that Jefferson National Expansion Memorial actually consists of the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, and St. Louis' Old Courthouse?
Where you stand is the Museum of Westward Expansion, located below the Arch, is as large as a football field and contains an extensive collection of artifacts, mounted animal specimens, an authentic American Indian tipi, and an overview of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

I've always liked the museum under the Arch, and the view looking up from underneath is impressive. The grounds are under renovation until 2017, but when complete it should be great, as it will make one big park all the way from the Archgrounds to the Old Couthouse.

Very nice museum. My kids loved learning about the history of St. Louis and the building of the Arch. You should definitely allow at least an hour before or after your ride to the top to check it out.

What trip to STL (or what residency for that matter) is complete without a trip to the Arch? The photo ops below, the museum beneath, the view from above, that and more come together to make a great experience. Plus, even looking from afar, the Arch never stops looking awesome.

The Arch can't quite earn that last star due to the fairly high ticket price for the tram ride, long waits on certain days to get to the top, and the frequency of tram breakdowns. But still, don't let these setbacks stop you from going if you haven't been yet.
