Loved the time we spent here. Very rustic feel to the winery tasting room. The variety was plentiful and they have something to offer each palette. The owner greeted us and welcomed us to his home, and informed us that he does NOT use any pesticides or herbicides. The Cabernet was fantastic. I would highly recommend this winery above most others in the region.

This is an excellent winery. We are members because their wines. They have an old vine zinfandel that is to die for. That and their five sisters blend of cabernet are so good we come back for them time after time. Today we also got a tour of their wine cave that was very informative. The winery is family owned and not part of a large consortium.

Small and friendly family owned winery just north of Healdsburg. Their red wines (cabernet, malbec, zinfandel, and petit syrah) are most excellent. Order ahead for Big John's Market deli sandwiches to be delivered for a picnic lunch.

The story behind the label begins and continues with Jim aka J.Rickard. The quality of the wide selection of varietals with amazingly affordable price points...Great! Tour the unique construction of their wine cave, 1909 Zinfandel vines and...Complimentary Tastings! Superb! The J.Rickard motto of 'Darn Fine Barn Wine' tells the story...no pretense...hard work and passion...Cheers!

We love this winery - great wines, beautiful location, friendly/knowledgeable owners & staff. As former red wine only drinkers, we have been converted by their amazing whites and enjoy them with friends (who are equally impressed!). Did I mention we also love their reds and visiting the cave?

Every trip to Sonoma from here in Silicon Valley includes a stop at J. Rickards. There are VERY few wineries where we enjoy 100% of the available wines. This is one of them.

Truly fantastic tasting! I m a winemaker in Petaluma and stopped by while in the area. Great wines, fantastic personnel, and wonderful pairings with local cheeses and chocolate. Will definitely be back with friends and family!

It is a must stop and try

We enjoyed a fantastic relaxed tasting at J. Rickards. Their zin field blends and SB bursting with lime were so good that we broke our "no wine club" rule. These are just the sonoma wines we want our girls to grow up on. We can't wait to return with friends later this summer for a wine and cheese pairing.

Our server, Jay was excellent even taking us on a brief tour to see the production facilities including tanks. We even able to do a barrel tasting. The wines were all excellent. We appreciated the unusual wines including Carignane, bBarbera, Malbec.

We have been to J. Rickards several times. We just love spending time there and the wine is amazing. I don't think we've ever spent less than a couple hours there. The people that work there become friends quickly.
Ozzy poured for us this last time and he was so fun and was very knowledgeable. Love Love Love this place!

Wonderful wine tasting experience with a down-to-earth history of the operation and a nice tour through their wine cavern (impressive). We like the owner's philosophy with regard to not using insecticides and allowing things to happen naturally. The wine is outstanding! First wine club we have ever joined and we look forward to enjoying this wine and sharing it with friends for years to come.

J. Rickards Winery was awesome! Some of the best wine I have drank! The host Ozzy did an amazing job showing us the barrel rooms, walking us through the fields, he was super knowledgable, professional, and friendly! Ozzy made us feel special and important! Ozzy is a world class sommelier FOR SURE and the best one I have ever had on a tour! After going to J. Rickards 1st on our Platypus Wine Tour of 4 vineyards. The following 3 vineyards we had on the tour stunk compared to J. Rickards and Ozzy!

Folks, this is a "MUST VISIT" winery in the Russian River Valley. Jim Rickard will be your gracious host and walk you around his vineyard, sharing his personal story about the development of the property, and will escort you through his "cave" to amaze you with his knowledge of the grape growing process. This experience is only surpassed by the great wine coming from J. Rickards. My suggestion, get on their web site and order the Sauv Blanc and the Old Vine Zin. Put out some cheese, salami and bread, sit back and enjoy.

I was intrigued by the perfect 5 scores, and thought that it was because of the free tasting. Makes sense since you pay to get decent wine, atleast in Napa. But not here, the wine paired with cheese (and chocolate) and the people are amazing.

The 2016 GVM is great - I really like dry wines and this one is aromatic with just the right sweetness. The reds were definitely their strong suit. Try the 2014 Zinfandel - both the regular and the reserve are great. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Five Sisters) is complex and delicious. Finish, with the 2016 Muscat Blanc. It is sweet, but not overbearingly (the 2014 Twilight is a bit too sweet for my taste). Finally, make sure to ask to tour the cave.

Overall, an amazing winery with great hospitality. Highly recommended!!!

J. Rickards is a great Sonoma County winery. Friendly, smart staff and off the beaten path. If you're tired of stuffy Napa County wineries, Come to J. Rickards in Northern Sonoma County.

I first learned of J. Rickards two years ago when I attended a Wine Road event and wanted to visit wineries I had not been too before. J. Rickards was on the north end of our itinerary. I enjoyed the relaxed environment and handcrafted wines. My favorite wine was the Old Vine Zinfandel which came from the estate grown vines planted in the early 1900's.

today, I'm writing this review after visiting again this weekend (11/3/18). J. Rickards was participating in the Wine Road Wine and Food Affair. They were pairing a red wine with a Provencal Cassoulet. Plenty of picnic tables and an arbor are available for guests to sit at while enjoying wine. There is a nice variety of wine, whites, reds, blends and late harvest dessert wines. Not sure if these wines are available for purchase anywhere other than the winery.

Located on the north end of the Alexander Valley, J Rickards reaps the rewards of location, location, location. Wonderful wines, great view, off the beaten path, J. Rickards is worth a visit.

We adore the staff, wine and experience here. Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. Jim, the owner, is available many times and will take the time to answer questions and make the experience memorable. We have toured the cave and vineyard on more than one occasion. Great fun.
