Its an aging property and it shows. InterContinental was the first international hotel to open in Almaty - but not much changed since that time, everything shouts in the hotel "i am 20+ years old". Rooms are clean and well maintained, but too old fashioned and definetely cry for refurbishement. Breakfast was good, but the food at the lobby bar was average at best.
All in all, its ok to spend few nights on a business trip but don't expect any kind of luxury experience

Positive: location close to the city center and parks.
Negative: looks like hotel rooms were not refurbished since the opening. Our room was dusty, AC was drying air out that baby's skin got dry. Bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly.
Overall Intercontinental is not the same as it was several years ago.

Please don t stay here. I booked a club room and I got an email from the hotel confirming my reservation and do to the COVID 19 the club lounge was closed but I can still get a lounge privileges at the lobby lounge. Upon my checkin they also told me times for happy hour and at 5:30 I was there expecting drinks and snack and to my surprise the lounge said no. I then went to the front desk and I was told that I can only have two drinks that will not even pay the difference in the price that I payed for the club privilege

Sunday brunch outdoors is good value for money, service attentive but not obtrusive.
Wine, including sparkling, flows quietly and plentifully at no extra charge. Vinophiles will be pleasantly surprised that no overpriced drinks sink the ship.
