Wish I could give 0 star rating. Horrible police work, even worse "protecting the community"
officers and detectives dont care about anyone but themselves.

Reported a gun shot, at least they came and checked it out. I am tried of hearing gun shots in Independence. It would be, 4 but the dispatcher said I was the problem, bcuase I had a problem with hearing gun shots close to a school. Anyways, thank you for trying to keep me safe.

Officer Stark should not be allowed to interact with the public. Absolutely by far the most rude disrespectful person not just police officer I have ever met. He has a opportunity to make a difference in lives instead he is teaching teenagers why people hate the police. I can imagine it will not be long before there is a lawsuit against the city due to him.

Extremely unprofessional. Shocked they even get any state funding.

Beware of the Independence PD and record every encounter! It may not help you if you wind up brain dead after being tased and slammed into the pavement, but that's what you get for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

While driving home I fell behind an Independence unmarked police car westbound on 40 hwy east of Chrysler street both drivers were in an unmarked vehicle wearing civilian attire. How am I to determine if this was simply a vehicle recently sold or actually in use by the police. I wanted to stop the car and ask for their permit to drive this unmarked vehicle. This is not the first time this has happened it is a funny world people attempt to impersonate the police is there a way to know for sure.

Due to this police department's way of doing business I will never visit or waste any time/money in that city.

One of the best police station's around! The police officer's in Independence Missouri are some of the best in the country! They do their job!

Horrible with how they treat common people of there community, bullying and intimidating them, to even lying on camera NUMEROUS times.. Sad to say, but its 97% of police these days that act this way, not just in independence mizzou.

I would like to start this review with a joke. How many Independence Police Officers does it take to do their job? The answer, One U.S. Marshall. So much incompetence in one place, how do they continue to function? The Chief of Police & the Mayor should both step down because their rather obvious goal of having their incompetence & gross negligence trickle down to the lowest civil servant has been met. Mission Accomplished. You didn't do anything, but Mission Accomplished none the less. It has been two weeks since my house was a crimescene, & the police have still not arrested the lowlife piece of democrat goodness, neighbor across the street. I & multiple other neighbors witnessed him & his brothers shooting my limousine & house. Two weeks later & the responding "officers" have done nothing except polish off a few hundred dozen . Let's also talk about their 4 hour response time & "No body, No crime Attitude. The crimescene itself couldn't have been more giftwrapped if it had been wrapped by a Macy's giftwrapper & they still refused to process the crimescene. Nine shell casings & two 9 mil slugs. There is still an unprocessed 9 mil slug in my dash console that they refuse to retrieve. Just so the "officers" know, the powers that be want you to work for your paycheck, not just sit on your ass & scarf all day. Are the Independence Police so out of shape that they can't process a crimescene & arrest the criminal across the street? Is the city of Independence in such bad financial shape that they can't provide a gym for their out of shape employees? Someone should start a gofundme account for the Fat, out of shape, incompetent officers to recive a gym & job training. It is so sad to see that the "Serve & protect oath" that these "officers" took is meaningless. Gun control is a joke, & this crimescene at my house is a prime example of that joke. The inaction & bumbling incompetence of the police department coupled with the criminal's unending access to guns creates a perfect recipe for disaster. The sad fact is you could totally remove the law abiding citizen's right to have guns but the criminal will always have a gun. The bad guy always has a gun. I have lost all faith in law enforcement, I will not call the police for help again. It's pointless. I have attempted repeatedly to contact the Mayor & the Chief of Police & have been ignored. I am calling the News & taking out an ad in the paper to let the world know about the sad condition of our local law enforcement entities. The public's image & opinion of the Independence Police Department is lower than a nun turning tricks in a whorehouse. Serve & protct indeed.

Captain Bass seems arrogant, dismissive, and incompetent. I saw a video where he implies that disseminating information out to the public, is baiting. Such an assumption is wildly off base from reality.

Outstanding service and response time. There is no better Police Department.

Car 130 was going about 55 in a 35 today March 7th around 1400 hrs. As someone that works with law enforcement I m appalled by how they were driving. Might want to talk to the two white male officers that were driving the vehicle and tell them to follow protocol.

In one day there was an obvious and deliberate exhibition by these obnoxious and overbloated metermaids with a serious control complex to 1) act in accordance OUTSIDE of law, and 2) when faced with ACTUAL CRIME avoid it and be as completely arrogant about it as humanly possible. Police are a symptom of each and everyone of our OWN lack of self discipline and avoidance of our own failures in that lack! When you love yourself so much that you act morally EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING then what need does ANYONE have for them??? They stalk and collect, instead of serve and protect because that is what we each do with the source of revenue they are seeking by doing so...the jobs that make you feel so righteous and earnings that don't make you rich but SOMEONE ELSE, are being shown to you RIGHT THERE! NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE! Not the police, the president orthe queen of flipping England! All same, equal and human...until you see the symptoms of dis ease are the disease in your minds and body's, all around you, then it will not change! Your happiness and pleasure with everything around you must be the guides that get you, firstly and most importantly and then that will be physically expressed to the outside. If you're mad at what you see be mad at yourself FIRST, and see where growth can be let free. Then freedom from the world around you is ACTUAL FREEDOM! Not this lie we lead...its not my idea that this is what society is? Is it yours? Then be what you think it should be and not what some bloated and ego driven politician or faulty parental program deems it to be, there's real freedom. You being authentically you, no longer needing policed and only seeing the reflection of how you see society in all YOU do...not them or her or him and us but YOU!

Terrible! These officers do not want to be held accountable for their actions.

If you break the law they would be nice enough to give you a place to stay, food, and a free ride. Pretty good gig if you ask me

Worthless; if I could give Independence Police Department ZERO stars, I would. The police chief should be removed immediately for failure to perform their duties. There were several break in burglaries of automobiles and thefts in the neighborhood overnight and IPD did not even send a patrol officer to the scene to conduct site exploitation or any aspect of an investigation. I would discourage even relying on the IPD for anything other than traffic citations. When crimes occur and the police fail to respond adequately or at all, then criminals continue to engage in criminal misconduct, unimpeded and more brazen and empowered.

Indepence PD should never have attempted the cover up for Timothy Rundells wrong doings, the newly released dashcam video is a no brainer, your officer was a thug yet IPD stood behind him and tried to blame the victim people all over the country people are becoming dissatified with law enforcement and rightly so, Police officers protect and serve there own interests not the citizens, but the citizens the taxpayers will be left to pick up the tab for the inevitable Bryce Masters multi million $ lawsuit.

Made our report quick over the phone and got them the video without having to take it up there thank you for being with the times

Your response time blows. You make a phone call with an emergency the quickest you can be there is 5 to 10 mins. Dont worry your caller doesnt need help!

I have to say that I am very disappointed in this department. I was just accused of stealing from a grocery store by one of your officers on duty at a Hy-vee. He stopped me going out the door, and asked me to show him the merchandise that I was carrying around. First off, I wasn't carrying any around. Second, the merchandise he said he saw me with, I NEVER even touched. I told him several times I didn't touch any pastries, and he kept repeating, "Where did you put them?" I finally emptied all of my pockets in my jacket, removed my jacket and lifted my shirt and pant legs. He then let me go, saying that they have high theft there. Okay..... so what?! I have high theft at my store that I manage, but I don't treat people like they stole just because they left without buying things they looked at. Which is sad. Because this department acts like it's an inconvenience when we call them for theft! How embarrassing this was!

Very slow to respond to emergencies. Very very slow. I reported that I think I had been poisoned & an hour later when I called to get an ETA before the accused got away, I was told they were on a shift change , my call was still in pending status, and they were short staff. The dispatched seemed very uninterested. This is how our tax money is used... Wow. Zero stars wasn't an option.

Watched enough videos on YouTube that gave me reasonable articulable zero star review for this PD... we all must address the bad so we get the chance to make changes

Rude captain. These cops think they are above the law. Treat people terribly. Something needs to be done about this pd.

Love the boys in blue, but they need to figure out a better solution for the non-emergency number and to contact people earlier than a couple months to solve investigations.

I've had great experiences with IPD. I appreciate the service they provide the city of Independence and their timely response.

Rude lazy employees. Called to make a report about a crime that was witnessed and they didn't care less. Since I personally was not the victim said for me to just drop it.

Thank you for all the protection you have provided our employees when they are in your city and for your prompt response. You are appreciated!!

Why not leave if you have all theses calls..... why was Bass just sitting in the car and then claim he has legitimate calls pending..... STOP

Worst police station ever. They gang up on you. Rough when handcuffing. They have the most uncomfortable beds (just metal no mattress). The last visit they never offered my free bologna sammy. The free ride was so cramped and hot with all of the other passengers. Y all if your looking for a good jail go to blue springs. They treat you like kings. Free burger and fries. Mattresses. The whole 9 yards.

They killed my brother on 08072017 and won't even return my calls .

They don't take children's saftey into high enough standards.

An hour and a half missing isn't long enough for them to be concerned about.

What kind of department are you running there? Chief of police deserves to be removed. Entire department needs to be moved around. How is it possible that this could even happen? Shame on you. I hope this entire department pays for what happened to that kid

All I can say is IAB and Fbi need to investagate all of Independence police officers and the cases. I'm not sure what's going on with drug enforcement in Independence either. Because meth has gotten bad it's worse than what it was in the 90s. What cops don't realize is , is that all the people the locked up back then are now back out and ten times worse than what they were going in. Independence need to crack down on meth harder than what they did before! And make savere Jail sentences for any who gets caught with it not just selling it! And the need to make a law we're on any meth case ,one it's not pleaded down and two not giving any one caught with meth any type of deal. Any case that involves meth , prosecutors should give them the max sentencing no exceptions!

One of the officers asked for my number last night at quick trip he lives in Lee's summit and is 28 he said he is married to his high school sweetheart but I am so in love with this guy. Years ago I was picked up by a independence officer who was also married and now he's police chief so who knows maybe just maybe I bring these guys good luck like a rabbit foot.

Very quick to pull the trigger.. Shoot first ask questions later. That's standard procedure with these guys.

If you r looking for a welcoming, friendly & inclusive city to live/visit, the city of Independence is not for u. The city officials use intimidation and retaliation to achieve their goals and treat their citizens as ATM machines to generate revenue (on top of taxes already paid). The city loves to set speed traps in areas where they re not trying to address a public safety concern but a convenient place where they can hide and catch people for ticky tack violations. I sat having lunch off 24 HWY one day and watched as a speed trap was set up in a section of road where people sometimes pick up speed going down a hill but usually even out coming back up the other side. I didn t see 1 car driving recklessly or speeding excessively but they were pulling people over like they had a fishing net. The purpose of the trap was clearly to generate revenue plain and simple. Meanwhile there are sections of the city where I never see a police car and vehicles are regularly racing down the street. Independence has no interest in community policing and working to make the entire community a better place for all its citizens. They follow the model of putting cops on the street to generate revenue for the city. It s not like the city does not have real police work to be done. Meth is rampant and right out in the open in some areas. I guess addressing this problem won t generate the revenue that five miles over the speed limit or not coming to a complete stop can generate. Police officers do however like to pull people over who look to be of Hispanic origin hoping to maybe find someone they can turn over to ICE.
I work in an industry where I interact with many people who must deal with city administrative officials across the metro area and consistently Independence comes up (unsolicited) as a city that is not only difficult to work with but often seems to go out of their way to be spiteful, vindictive and just all around uncooperative. The city uses their code enforcement division to harass and retaliate against people who have spoken up about the city. If you have been designated as a person or group who is not one of them or with them , you will get nuisance complaints if your property does not look like the Masters golf course. In the meantime, neighbors around the so-called nuisance property that actually do have issues will be overlooked. Businesses, schools and other city property are never held to even close the same standard. I sat through a session of court one day and it was eye opening how the city acts with zero compassion for its citizens. One elderly woman who could barely walk to the front with her walker was getting code violations for a home that had been foreclosed on. It was bank owned at that point and they were not maintaining it. She had documentation supporting the foreclosure and transfer of title and the judge did not dispute her assertions, but he wanted more documentation. There was no effort to get this woman help to resolve this issue or point her in the right direction. It was just pretty much, this isn t enough documentation and next case. The judge also seemed to go out of his way to humiliate defendants who were being nothing but respectful and made a show of having one handcuffed even though he had been sitting quietly for almost an hour prior to his case coming up. The mentality seemed to be, we have empty jail cells and by golly we re gunna fill em and look at this person who is down let s kick em in the teeth. The judge was eager to give people permanent criminal records for minor offenses.
Independence was home to not only one our greatest presidents but an even better man in Harry Truman. A man who was compassionate, inclusive and knew the importance of community. The current leadership of the city of Independence and many of its employees don t seem to have a clue about what he stood for and no interest in fostering a community he would be proud of.

Shame on whatever police officer it was that mocked those black girls at Applebee s. In todays social climate you should teach your officers more about diversity.

This is where a the reject Brady cops go to find employment. They don't listen to the dispatcher about a description of a gunman, shoot a complying hero, and then put out a false narrative that he was armed when shot by police.

I am so upset after watching that video. I have always sided with police, but what Runnels did was undefendable. I can accept the fact that there are a few bad cops, but the fact that YOUR police department saw that video and then DEFENDED Runnels taints your whole department. I never thought I would say this, but I think the DOJ needs to look into your department. Obviously you are not there to protect and serve!

Got stopped while on a trip last week. These officers and their department are a joke. Never have I had such a horrible interaction with police. We were on a trip from Canada visiting friends when we got stopped at a sobriety checkpoint. I was removed from the car and accused of have a fake ID and fake license plate because they were from a Canadian Province, which is completely legal. Canadians and Americans drive their cars in both countries daily. But they were over the top rude and kept us there for almost an hour, even after verifying that our paperwork was in order and real. Oh, and no I was sober.
I feel horrible for our friends who are 'served' by these police officers and their department and feel even worse for the citizens of this community.

Threw a kid face down while he was out after dragging him to the curb. Tough guys here.

Since most people who will leave a review of a police department will be for negative reasons, I thought i would write one.
Unfortunately we have had to call the Independence Police Department more than once for issues at our place of business. Every single time they arrived in a timely and they were very professional to the party involved and to us as well. They even followed up with us to keep us informed.
Thank you IPD for a job well done!!

Needs more training on human compassion and diversity.

When they harass a homeless man at the QT. And go through his belongings. Wow way to protect you community from someone is homeless and sleeping!!!

These technofiles micro chipped me without consent after I passed full auto. I said before long they will be chipping people on this table. "He knows about the chip he's gotta take the chip" and the technofile stuck the chip between my knuckles in my right hand so I couldn't splinter it out. It's the mark. Where the bill of rights was predominantly laid out was the declaration of independence we are endowed by the creator with the rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and to secure these rights governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers by the consent of the governed. I hereby revoke my consent to be governed. Legalese is a language written by the American "law" society that I cannot claim to understand unless I'm an attorney. Bear in mind all these officers carry business cards. It's a corporation providing a service and only employees are bound. Are you the police willing to claim under full commercial liability that it's constitutional to use a language we the people cannot claim to understand against us in order to create liability upon us? Ladies and gentlemen it's time for a revolution. The more freedom these officers that only exist in corporations take from the people for the 1% they more revenue they generate for themselves it's pathetic to think they are the good guys anymore. Sure crime is a problem but 9 times out of 10 they are slimeballs that just wanna write a ticket or enforce legislated morality. I don't violate rights of others I do no harm and I never use fraud in a contract and that covers all the law. After that it's nothing but legislated morality and unconstitutional statutes... Slavery has been abolished i know you heard the news but the 14th amendment voluntary servitude When you register your child you make a major alteration you are now employed by UNITED STATES corporation the constitution thereby becomes a fiction you can't mention it in any statutory jurisdiction they hoodwink masses of people somthing awful just because it's legal doesn't mean that it is lawful. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands (not the states) one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. this is a police state with unconstitutional statutes this is the corporate takeover our founding fathers talked about it's time for a revolution.
