Improv Comedy Club Houston Review

Great venue for shows. All good seats, attentive service for a comedy club, good food and drinks, great acts. Will be back.

Clean establishment with clean bathrooms. Our server was very friendly and fast. Checked on us the right amount of times. All other servers were respectful in not getting in the way of the show.

Things to keep in mind. Autimatic 18% gratuity. Not sure if this goes to the server. Also last call is pretty early into the show.

Place was pretty clean, waiters were friendly, but the waiting times for drinks and food were too long.

Staff very professional and inviting when you approach the booth to obtain your tickets, loved that! Once you entered the venue to wait at the bar, the staff was well organized while maintaining moral, very much appreciated for my first visit, will definitely be returning. And to my surprise, I was able to meet the comedians that had performed that evening with a purchase of their memorabilia, soooo well worth it! A must see venue, worth the visit!

As you may know, you are not allowed to talk or heckle the comedians.....I in no way heckled the comedians...the comedians started interacting with me and I responded.....Is that wrong????? Anyways, an usher touched me and told me that if I keep interacting with the comedians they would kick me out. At that point, I felt like a victim. I spoke with the General Manager and he was not interested in anything I had to say and he made me feel like i was being discriminated on. I will never go to the Houson Improve again.

I didn't have any of the food so I'm not sure about that but I will say the drinks were on the expensive side as you'd expect and at least in our experience they were rather weak but I won't say they were terrible. You shouldn't be coming here for food or drinks anyway you come here for the entertainers. Its a rather small place inside but tables weren't really jammed together which is nice and they have booths facing the stage as well. At the ticket booth and on the menu it warns you you will be charged an extra fee for not getting enough items off the menu while your there but at least in our case that did not happen.

Very clean friendly people for the most part. Nice environment. They encourage and never make you feel uncomfortable.. love it will be again for open mic

I love coming here. They get great comedians, the food and drinks are great and most of the time the servers are fantastic.

The comedians are great! However, the staff is not so great

My husband and I always have a great time coming here on a date or with friends. Bobby Lee is one of our favorites to see! We make sure to watch him once a year. The drinks are good and reasonably priced. Service isn t too slow but maybe recommend ordering another drink as soon as the first one is delivered. Definitely recommend the Improve. Will be back!

The club was great, but the comedian was the worst show i ever saw

I went and saw Cheryl Underwood...she and her guests were excellent. Thanks for the many laughs!!

The place is cool but when i went it got way over packed and everything is kinda pricy.

It was nice, great atmosphere. I'm just not a fan of the manditory 2 items a person seems like a cash grab

Went to see Whitney Cummings tonight. The venue was clean, decent food, service was good and parking was plenty.

Just left the Carlos Mencia show! We had an amazing time! My husband surprised me for my birthday. I haven't laughed so much in a long time. The venue is very nice. The service is superb and the food and drinks are great. Laughter truly is natures medicine. I definitely recommend the Improv for your night out!

What if it we're raining and cold ???? We had to stand outside, in a line til the other show ended, which you guys have always done, but I think it's time to do something different. An the two purchase minimum is for the birds.

Intimate venue with good seating for couples and larger parties.

Great atmosphere and I really enjoyed the show sitting with two beautiful sweethearts that I didn't know and they made me feel like we were there together! Trying to get a drink or food was kind of all over the place, but I enjoyed my time there!

Had an awesome time ... Everybody was so funny and I'm not easy to get laugh at.

Nice ambiance for venue to be as old as it is. Adequate sized Tables for 2, covid responsible. Excellent greeters, hostesses, clean restrooms, drinks are potent.

My husband and I had an amazing first visit to the Houston Improv! From the ease of ordering our tickets online to the cheerful greeting at the door, the place showed class. Special shout-out to our waitstaff, Maria, for her attentiveness. The food was delicious, too! The comedians were hilarious, with the headliner for this event being John Witherspoon of the popular "Friday" movie series. Bravo, Improv! You will see us again!

This place has changed! We got our drinks 10 minutes before last call. I don't know if the new manager knew the weather in Houston but it was hot as heck! Since they were taking long on our drinks I tried to walk up to the bar and get some bottles of water but the door guy was a jerk and said you should've told the waiter the first time. All the tables around us had their orders except us, my beer was warm. I am a very frequent customer here.

Nice venue. If suggest they include the mandatory processing fee in their price. No need to separate it if it's charged at all times.

Comics were great, venue was great, service was great, menu overpriced.

The bartender Taylor made one of the best martini's I have had in a long long while, the taste was spot on. The bar atmosphere in the lobby is an enjoyable and somewhat relaxed one. The brighter lighting makes a great difference here.

The wait staff during the show was efficient, friendly and helpful. The showroom was clean and spacious and we attended the later show giving kudos to the staff here for cleaning it so well and turning it around from the earlier show.

The entertainment was superb. John Caparulo is a funny guy and a really approachable and nice guy. We have seen him previously and he gets funnier and more entertaining every time we see him. Great evening out, time and money well spent.

I have been to the Improv to see many comedians. This particular night was DL Hughley. DL did NOT disappoint! HOWEVER, our server did! In all fairness, he made an announcement that he was responsible for the WHOLE floor section. But when we looked around, other servers were taking orders including the order for the table behind us. I fail to see that The Improv did not adequately staff for such a headliner! We were not given comment cards as we previously had, i have to leave my disappointment here. I would have given all 5 stars if we hadn't had a lying and inept waiter.

The Monique show was Great...The environment was great...The date nite combo..the meat was dry..I did not finish it...The service fee on top of a tip was too much and I did not see where it was published that a service fee would be added...The wait to be seated was too long...The parking is horrible..

Good show. Prices are a little high for what you get. Recommend eating before. Good environment and great show.

Damon Wayans was hilarious! VIP seats were nice. I'm surprised he didn't pick on me for laughing too hard; I had a few drinks while there... so I was live.

The food and drinks are good. I always have fun when I go to Improv.

Great venue, tight quarters. Two food or drink minimum. Buy the VIP seats for an extra $10!!

Went here to see Theo Von, what a great show!! He had us crying laughing, so good! We were in the VIP section, table 104, literally at the front and center table by the stage, such great seats. Our necks didn't get sore from looking up but if I had a choice I likely wouldn't sit there again because it feels like your in the spotlight and the comdians look out into the audience more than they look down, I imagine the row behind us would've been a tad more perfect though, either way we had some pretty rocking seats through pure luck. The reason for the 4 star rating is not at all based on the comedian/seats, it is purely based on two things: first, the venue which was a top notch 5 stars for sure and second, the service which was absolutely a terrible 2 stars at best. The service getting into the venue was not clear, everyone who purchased tickets online needed to go to the box office/will call to get a second verified paper ticket but if we hadn't asked we would've been in line to go in only to have to get out of line to get our tickets (again), which many people had to do, it was very unorganized. Our tickets stated that showtime is at 10pm and the recommended time to arrive is 9:30pm. We arrived at 9:30pm on the dot, got our second paper ticket stub, stood in line to go in and they didn't end up opening the doors until until 10:15pm. With all that said I recommend getting there sometime before 9:30 if you want to get in there and be in the first group to get your drink orders in because the drink service is turtle slow, be sure to order your two drinks at once because they will only come by one more time after the show starts and it will be for "last call". We got into the venue when it was half full, a guy came by after about 10 mins, took our order, and our drinks were delivered to us 20 mins later (near the end of the opening act). Oh and they put a lot of ice in the mixed drinks so you'll end up finishing your drink pretty quickly, another reason to order two at once. The beers were full to the brim though so that was nice. All in all it was a great show, great venue which made up a little for the terrible service. They just need to get more servers/bartenders to expedite drink delivery.

Do not go here!! If you absolutely have to make sure you pay with cash!! My friends and I went here June 12 to see a show because we absolutely love the comic! Only to find out you have to purchase two items or be charged a fee for not purchasing anything plus they automatically charge you 18% gratuity which is fine because I know everyone s not a great tipper. My issue is how do you force people to buy items here and the food/drinks are not good at all! I get that is supposed to be barfood but barfood doesn t have to be disgusting. I would recommend ordering water and a drink as your two items since they charge you five dollars for a bottle of water!! The kicker is like I said previously we went here June 12 and we just got charged July 3! Who waits a month to charge you for food/drinks you got almost a month ago!! If you go here your bills already going to be expensive automatically but for you to wait a month to actually charge someone when they re not expecting the charge is the most unprofessional thing I ve seen! I bank with Chase and even they ve never seen anyone do anything like that so please pay with cash if you absolutely have to go! Or don t go at all it s not even worth it.

Best comics in the city. Though the hidden fees will kill you. The item min. Is cool bit I had a another item charge on top of it. I was told he could not do anything about it and he had a line of people to deliver tickets to. Be aware you will spend almost $50 extra after the ticket price.

Very average venue. Food was edible but not great; service was much better if you were drinking(drinks were adequate). Seating was a little cramped and not as clean as I would prefer. Leaving the building, if there is an option to meet performers afterward, is much more difficult than it should be due to a lack of proper meet and greet setup/traffic directing.

We had an excellent time. The place was nice and the food was good.

Absolutley love this place! I've lived in Houston for 30 years and never had been here! Definitely making this place a reoccurring thing.

Barrel of laughs but making each person purchase 2 items from the menu is ludicrous

It was fantastic! I got the chance to meet Steve~O!! The service and staff was short handed but they all did great to make sure we had what we requested in order to enjoy the show!

Entertainment at its finest!!! The size of the venue is large enough for comfort yet cozy enough for a nice romantic date. AND you can see the celebrities up close and personal! AND my food was delicious! Love it

The place is really nice but I absolutely disliked the star comedian. I left before it was over. It's really sad when comedians think they have to load their act with vulgar profanities to make people laugh. He WAS NOT funny at all. I especially don't like comedians that try to get laughs off people in the audience. That wasn't funny either, he didn't know how to do it or when to let it go! Yuk!

This is my second time going to the improv club. It s nice inside, food is decent but expensive for what it is. Drinks are good as well. The acts they have are great. Make sure to get their ahead of time and buy your tickets together.

Also you will want to make sure to know each person must buy 2 items on their tab or there is a $4.00 fee. Overall very fun time, will be back.

It's nice to come out for a night of laughs. The staff here is always super friendly. The VIP seating is awesome bc of proximity to the comedian, however, the regular seating is a little cheaper and, honestly, the seats are just as good.

Great service. The food is pretty good and the drinks are expensive but seating is good from anywhere in the room.
