Only bad thing is people don't watch their children. Especially in the water room. It gets very dangerous at times. My 6 year old granddaughter got hurt by another older kid and no adult would claim him as theirs. Unexceptable.

Impression 5, is such an amazing place to take your child(ren). There are so many hands-on activities and learning experiences for all ages. It's a great place for kids with attention and sensory issues, that was what made me love this place even more!
We visit Impression 5 Science Center regularly with our young children. While I probably wouldn't consider it on par with some of the larger science museums we have been to (think COSI), it is a great Lansing-area destination nonetheless. They recently remodeled their First Impressions room for the youngest scientists, and it is really wonderful. Our children have really benefited from the experience, and the staff in the room is always so friendly and happy to help your children explore. They also have wonderful programs for children, and the museum itself is very budget friendly!
I use to go here as a kid on school field trips. I just went back recently with a group, and it is by far the coolest thing I have ever seen. All the new updates and new exhibits are incredible. When I have kids I plan to live here!
Impression 5 has so much in store for kids to learn about their world. The exhibits are completely 100% interactive; no static exhibits. Kids learn at Impression 5 by doing, and that sets it apart from so many other science centers. Amazing staff, and a growing my facility!
Good place for children to run around and learn about science. A lot of educational and fun activities even a toddler room. However it can be fairly busy and my 14 month son caught hand, foot and mouth virus from there. So make sure you use wipes and sanitizer. Sanitizer is available there through out the museum.
Impression 5 Science Center on Museum Drive in Lansing is a fun, hands-on based exhibition for young minds with a number of activities that help explain and account for the world around us. If you are stuck for something to do with kids after school, or need to fill in an hour or two, easy parking and accessibility make this a great pit stop, and one the kids might even thank you for.
I have attended i5 when I was a kid, and now I take my 1.5 year old son about 1-3 times per month. The places changes so much all the time and they are always adding. If you can, I suggest getting a membership there so that you don't have to worry about the entrance fee and also it helps support one of the best educational/fun centers in Lansing! :)
The front desk is friendly, the exhibits are kept pretty clean even when it gets busy, and they are always coming up with new exhibits to feature. The new room Smash! A Nuclear Adventure is wonderfully fun for adults and kids alike. I love that they provide headphones to protect the ears from the loud parts of the nuclear exhibit.
Bunch of the activities out of order. Thier HVAC guy left jagged metal duct work pieces on an activity table, kids almost sliced themselves open on it. Lansing's finest.
I have good memories of coming here as a kid, and now that I have one of my own, I love bringing her here. We have a year membership, which pays for itself quickly. It seems every couple of months she's a little older and appreciates a little more. Just about everything is hands-on. They've got some pretty cool exhibits that I want to try as well, and my wife keeps reminding me we're there for our daughter.
Its no world-class museum, but they're not charging you like one either. A lot of the exhibits feel like things you can try at home, which is actually pretty cool for a parent.
It's a good local place if you're looking for somewhere to keep your kids happy for a couple of hours every week.
Really awesome place for kids and adults. This place doesn't seem very big upon entering but when you go upstairs it's huge! There are so many fun activities you can literally spend a whole day here and still probably not get to everything. Definitely would go back if I'm in the area again.
This place is terrific for kids! I brought my 4 year old boy here and he had an awesome time. I love the fact it's geared towards science and teaches young minds how the things work. From different contraptions involving weights to cameras installed in Aquariums that are controllable. Thumbs up! I've been to a bunch of children's museums around the USA and this is probably my number one pick.
Kids loved it. Good variety for ages about 3-10. Parking is limited, so you might have to park at a meter on the main Street, which is a long walk. Quite a bit of stuff to do, but also a number of things that were broken.
This place is basically a children's museum on steroids. Very reasonably priced especially considering how easy it is to spend an entire day trying to experience everything they have. My kids beg to go back almost daily. Direct quote from my 6 year old daughter, "more fun than Disney and you don't have to wait in line". Not sure that's a fair comparison but I get what she's getting at. Science is a lot of fun and they do an excellent job of showing that to the kids. Best part the kids have so much fun they don't even realize they are learning and in the process I believe they absorb more than they would in a classroom setting.
The museum is great! (**Once you get in) Lots of activities in various themes... The paper airplane launcher, bubble blowing station and giant lightbrite wall were a few favorites. Very hands on. Our group had eight kids ranging in age from 1.5 years to 15 years. The kids LOVED it! The adults enjoyed it too. Cost is reasonable and family rates are available. Discovering there is a coat room was a pleasant surprise. Gift shop looked nice but we ran out of time and couldn't browse. **There are two cons though... 1) The parking lot is a mess (got caught in a jam of cars confused on direction) as well as limited. Some in our group had to park in a public lot a short walk away. 2) We could not figure out how to enter. Although there are numerous doors at what seemed to be the front of the building but all were locked... There were no arrows or signs with information. Odd. Anyway... We just kept trying doors and eventually figured it out. Once inside, we had a great experience.
From the bubbles, to the teeth, to the water room. There is something for all ages and stages. The hands on learning is amazing. Dont forget to pop into the gift shop and get some souvenirs. These Crazy Aaron's thinking putty is super fun for all ages and comes in hundreds of colors, varieties, and sizes. You cant lose by supporting an outstanding company like Crazy Aaron's after a fun filled day at Impressions 5.
Lots for the kids to do. The water exhibit is great but the Throw Things area is the star as far as I'm concerned. Only knock against it is how busy it gets with school trips. Can't help it though.
Absolutely fantastic place!! The staff was amazing and super helpful!! I had an amazing time when I was a kid but I was blown away by how much has been added and improved. It was fun to have several generations having a great time.
Recently updated throwing exhibits ... water room being updated as of June 2016 ... bubble room still good. Classics in light room and mechanics section. Other rooms may interest particular kids. There will be an opportunity to spend an extra $1 or $2 making souvenir slime.
Awesome museum. This place must get a ton of traffic from schools and local families. Many of the exhibits are worn down, but still educational. Hope to see this place continue to grow and inspire!
Always fun for the kids and the grown ups. They also have frequent traveling exhibits that change things up but great permanent exhibits so kids can revisit their favorites. The new water exhibit is great!
Attended a family birthday party here and had a blast even as an adult. So many cool things for kids to do and see. Very interactive and there is something for everyone of all ages (even the adults).
Kids love it but staff could do more to challenge the participants in their camps. They do a great job as caretakers of the kids but the content has become so watered down it seems like they are terrified someone will get a paper cut or feel dumb if they try to really offer some actual STEM. This place naturally draws a pretty gifted type of kid, they should cater to that a little but instead it seems like they are more focused on just getting the lowest common denominator to experience a tiny sliver of science. There's just not enough going on to stimulate or challenge a bright young mind.
My children love this place, went on family trips frequently then I finaly got to go as a fieldtrip with my sons group and see some of small group classroom sessions, super cool and the kids all loved it
Great place, my 10 year old twin daughters and I had so much fun in here. I've never imagined that there so any activities in here. All the hands on were really amazing.
My family and I love this place. I've been going here since I was a kid and have been fortunate to be able to pass the experience onto my children. We hope you enjoy it too. Have fun!
We love Impression 5. They do a great job with the exhibits and the kids always have a nice time. The yearly family membership is a great value. The first impressions room is great for the littlest ones. All the staff is nice and the small classes they offer most days are a great addition for older kids. My son loved the slime making class for only $2 per child and I loved that the instructor was actually teaching science along with the instructions to make the slime. There are nice discounts for members at participating science centers in Michigan as well as in the day camps and programs offered at Impression 5. I'd highly recommend a membership here for anyone with young children but particularly for someone with at least one child between 1 and 4 years old and not in daycare. It's a wonderful place to spend the morning or afternoon with a child not old enough for all day school.
