The roads are safe and clear of debris. They offered 30 minutes service guarantee if your vehicle stop or break down. They do well check on you if you pull over and put on emergency blinker. The toll collectors are courteous and nice. You're concerned about your safety on the road all time. The Troopers serve you well they serve and protect you. All this $.80 -$2.80.

The IPass is honestly a rip off, I had a settlement with them and I paid my settlement on time and they are still trying to charge me $150 through a debt collector. The employees are very rude and its ridiculous how if you can't pay the original bill they charge you another $100 the next month.

The State of Illinois doesn't care about their online reputation just like they don't care about their customers, tax payers who live in this state. the tolls are high. the wait times are high. the entire experience is agonizing.

0 stars honestly, this is not an ethical organizat...

0 stars honestly, this is not an ethical organization. They hold drivers liable for tolls on already finished roads already paid for by taxes. One use for them was to collect money so the governor could dip into it or the money designated for roadwork. This is a leech on the veins of Illinois. They do no actual work and they have no value. They are not a business and they are not providing a service. They are only another method to collect yet more taxes for the corrupt and crime ridden state of lets be honest chicago since Illinois only votes democrat because of the big city and their questionable ethics. They assign ridiculous fees of 20 dollars each on toll "violations" if you drove through a tollway, even if you go online and pay them if there are any missing they require you to search for each exit otherwise after 7 days you automatically get charged 20 dollars for 1.50 toll with no due process or ability to legitimately contest it. It is absolutely a kangaroo court. They have images of your license plate and they know what tolls you missed but they intentionally wait to let you know after the arbitrary 7 day limit so they can say you are in "violation". Violating a made up, fake and immoral law is not a ground to stand on state of Illinois. Its like me saying I am collecting 1 dollar from each friend who rides in my car and I send a letter saying to a friend who didnt know about it saying "Well you didn't give me a dollar a week ago so its 21 dollars now because you violated the grace period of 7 days" a month afterwards except wait, individuals don't typically do this to each other and when I say it this way 1. you most likely think um, you would have no right to impose such fees and 2. it sounds kind of ridiculous and wrong when applied to a non-government situation and the reason why is because this is a tyrannical organization. They impose arbitrary rules and fines based not on any morals, not on ethics or values, but on continually stealing money from individuals based on a desire to keep their own jobs and fuel a horribly bloated and valueless system of tax. We need to find a way to oppose and abolish this. It is entirely wrong. I do not have the means to effect change but I hope someone reads my words here who does.

BIGGEST CRIMINALS IN ILLINOIS. Advised me to purchase an IPASS in April didn't arrive until June. Hit with more violations after another IPASS arrived and was informed the one I was using was reported" lost in mail" Now I have to take more time and money to straighten it out by scheduling hearings. DONT BOTHER GETTING AN IPASS ITS A RIP OFF. THEY SENT ME AN EMAIL TELLING ME THAT because of their error and system always being down. Not only do I have to pay for the violations still. I now have to pay full price anyway even though I'm an IPASS CUSTOMER

Ipass transponder didn't expire for 4 months but battery died wasn't picked up for 2 weeks . 2 months after trip I get an outrageous bill in the mail . Submitted forms, my ipass account and transponder numbers, and evidence for appeal would gladly pay the tolls minus the 20 dollar per occurance penalty. Of course their private in-house mediator sided with them but I can now appeal to the DuPage county circuit court. After speaking to an asa in DuPage county I found out the Illinois Tollway Authority runs as a private business it's not an actual state agency it's all privately owned. If that's true I would love to know on what authority the Illinois Secretary of State gives them the information tied to my license plate without a warrant.

I got here within 5 minutes of opening on a weekday and there were 2 people working the desks. Luckily one was available and I could walk right up. Within a couple minutes there was already a line forming. This place will make you wait!

I guess I've been lucky based on some other reviews but in my experience and overall satisfaction, the Ipass team has always been helpful and courteous and I am so pleased with their updating of systems that have made traveling on all the highways in Illinois that require tolls easy, efficient and the designated lanes are clearly marked and they even try to help you if you have forgotten to pay by providing the new 7-day grace period. I think they make a good effort and I am glad that they employ disabled people who are always kind on the phone.

I have always received good customer service during my visits here, though I consider myself to be a patient person and wait my turn. I will agree that at most times, the line is long and never seems to move, but you can count on atleast one person making a scene in front of everyone because their "transponder stopped working" or "I paid my bill online, why am I getting a 'late payment notice'?" Honestly it never fails and proves to be quite amusing.

I did not understand what I-Pass was. When I went through the toll the person at the toll booth informed me that it was for credit card and cash payment. I paid all of my tolls, but got a bill for $65. I will never forget this experience and will make sure that I avoid all toll roads if possible.

Worst customer service ever!! I opened an account...

Worst customer service ever!! I opened an account with a different toll pass company and called Ipass to close my account. They refused to do so and made an excuse that there is an error on my account. I spoke with 3 different supervisors at customer support and every single one was unwilling to help. All I wanted was to close the account so no more deductions are made to it. They kept just giving me excuses saying they're own system will not allow them to deactivate the transponders and close the account. Therefore I deleted all the transponders on my account and all the plates as well, including the credit card. The account was left blank with only my balance, which they were still deducting money from the account. Spoke to a supervisor again. Still unwilling to help and refused to refund the money I still had on the account. I then called corporate, only to be constantly forward to a voicemail, no response yet, I kept calling. Finally the operator didn't even pickup and just transferred me automatically to a voicemail. Meanwhile, my account is still getting money withdrawn even though there are no registered transponders or plates, or even credit card set up on the account. Even corporate office is unwilling to help. Worst toll way company ever!! Stay away! And my account is still getting money withdrawn!!!

2 month update: Ipass still refusing to close my account. All the money that I had previously left on my account has been withdrawn. Ipass refuses to refund my money and close my account even though there is nothing left on the account. On top of it, they're still charging the account and it's at a $1,000.00 NEGATIVE BALANCE now.!!

It's a crooked system, it really is.

It's a crooked system, it really is.
I had a temporary job in Palatine and I traveled from the south suburbs each day. I paid $20 in tolls each day for my car and if I missed a toll and happened to forget to pay within the 7 day grace period, they added $20 to EACH individual toll.
If you get a violation notice in the mail, make sure that you pay before the due date. The $300 I owed threatened to TRIPLE once a month was up.
Even though I don't need one for my day to day travel, I feel forced to get an iPass. I'm not one to keep change in my car and I am fearful of missing a toll again.
Worst experience ever. Be careful.

With no warning fined us $60 for unpaid tolls of $2. A complete joke. We would have been very willing to pay the $2 if we had any idea we owed it. But instead they quietly wait until they can give us a $60 fine or they ll send it to collections. Completely unfair and unjust. Another reason to never move to/travel to Illinois.

The Illinois toll way is one of the most inefficie...

The Illinois toll way is one of the most inefficient run agencies I have ever come in contact with in my life. Their employees lack proper training. That is why if there is ever even a minut problem each time i have contacted them each employee tells me somerhing different or plain old does not explain the process. The tollway was trying to bill us potentially close to $1,000 for illegal toll violations run on our plates from someone else ILLEGALLY and their terrible customer service response was "It's not our job to tell you what to do with your plates". REALLY??!! Hope to high heaven you never have a problem with the Illinois Tollway. In addition, be sure to keep track of receipts when you need to pay for paid tolls within that short 7 day window to pay. There have several times when Illinois Tollway said I had not paid and tried to stick us with $200 in fines. Thank goodness I had kept my receipts and confirmation numbers.

Illinois Tollway is a bunch of crooks. I had two transponders in my vehicle, one for personal and one for work. It was double charging both of them and then when I called to fix it they said it was my fault and they are keeping the money. That is theft.

This is, without a doubt, the most crooked and unp...

This is, without a doubt, the most crooked and unprofessional business I have ever dealt with, EVER. If you are out of state and plan on traveling to or through here make sure to look up where the tolls are and avoid them completely. Booths are cash only, no cards, some have no booths at all and you are forced to use the i-pass. You have to remember what date, time, and what toll you went through. (Or write down) Since there are tons of tolls you will most likely go through more than 5 if you are traveling through. The most crooked thing about this toll system is THEY can tell you what tolls you went through and when. But when you try to pay them, on time, on their online website. It magically can't find your license plate or doesnt list all the tolls you went through. Now how in the heck can they know what tolls you went through and fine you for it but you can't find them online to pay the tolls. (The first notice you get in the mail with all the tolls you went through is with the fines already charged so it's already too late) Now here's my story.
I paid $20 because I had to estimate all the tolls i went through. I thought the online site would find them. I ended up owing $16. But they did not acknowledge any of my payments so they were trying to charge me $700. After being on the phone for over 30 minutes the lady finally found my payments. She applied them, I still owed $80! I bet you are wondering how? Because I didn't make 8 individual payments, 1 for each toll, I over paid on the tolls that she applies my payments to.
All of this money is going to the same place. I wanted to fight this so bad but I just paid it and got it over with. I live in California.
This toll way is the most crooked business ever!

Traveling through Illinois is the worst experience of any state due to the toll system.

There are so many tolls. They do a terrible job of notifying you of tolls you've missed. Customer service is clearly miserable with their jobs and it reflects in their performance.

Even though I have a transponder in my vehicle I just got a bill for 300+ dollars for tolls I haven t paid before covid this would happen and I d call and they would let me pay for just the tolls which isn t convenient but is the same as going thru the toll and it charge me. Oh nooo when COVID hits they change there rules and regulations and no longer can provide that. They change the fine to 3 bucks each but now they expect you to pay the fine this time. See you in court!!!

When I have gone there in the past it was pretty nice and friendly. Maybe it still is and the gentleman who helped me was just having a difficult day. It was noisy in there and the woman next to me was talking extremely loud, so much so that I had to raise the tone of my voice because he couldn't hear me. I couldn't hear him and he seemed not to have patience with my repeated questions; again it was because I couldn't hear him though because of the customer next to me. Oh well...

The tollway system is not as good as some other tollway systems in other states in the country. Almost every few miles on the interstate highway system there is another toll plaza to be paid. The Illinois Tollway needs to learn from other tollway systems.

Site actively discourages me from returning a transponder and getting my $10 deposit back. Gives no instructions how to return, just sends you in circles. This is a vampire organization sucking money from us all and hoping we don't complain. Doubled our tolls a few years ago. They are crooks.

The Illinois Tollway is one of the worst corporati...

The Illinois Tollway is one of the worst corporations I've ever interacted with. Every detail, from their customer service, to their horribly unintelligent website that looks like it was made for a middle school coding class project, to their obviously problematic system of notifying people of missed tolls, everything is designed to work against you so that you end up paying fines. After traveling through Chicago, I proactively went to the website to pay my tolls which I knew were within the 7 day window. The poorly designed website does not allow you to search by license plate, you must enter every single tollway entries and exits using their map as a guide. You can imagine how difficult this would be for someone unfamiliar with the tollway, but I completed this to the best of my ability and paid them $5.50.

To make a long story short, I get a letter in the mail 2 months later saying I owe them $104.00 because I didn t pay enough in the first place. They put a $20 fine on each toll I missed after 30 days. Interesting how they know exactly which tolls I went through because of their cameras but there was no way for me to know that information on my end so I could correctly pay the tolls. Also it s curious how they waited 2 months to notify me of this, in order to incur the fees for the tolls.

The system is crooked, the representatives are impossible to work with and you will get penalized even further if you do not pay your tolls + fines. Lesson learned, call to confirm all tolls are paid for right after you pay online.

I live in downstate Illinois and travel to and around Chicago fairly often but not often enough to warrant an iPass so I end up paying all cash tolls and immediately paying iPass only tolls online. Without fail, 6-8 weeks later I receive a notification of violations so I have to call and wait to speak with someone who obviously hates their job so my on-time payments can be updated to the system(?) and my "violations" removed. This is obviously a racket to drum up revenue and has to be borderline illegal. The violation notices where no violations exist constitute harrassment. Contrary to other comments, the system is not flawed, it is working exactly as designed: crooked.

The one star is only for the employees being frien...

The one star is only for the employees being friendly. I would give a -10 Stars if I could for the rest of the process. I have a North Carolina quikpass (ezpass) that works for the Illinois Tollway. I made the HUGE mistake of thinking it would actually work because I was told it would. It did NOT and I am still trying to get it resolved six months later. The transponder did not pick up at all so they automatically charge $20 for each toll missed (4) and even though the employees are friendly, some of them need more training. I have made seven phone calls so far and have gotten different answers for my questions from each one. I was told to send in some information by fax or mail from the EZ Pass account which I was told was never received. It was received but not put in the system because I needed another form with it. It's very hard to get to guess what you need with them . Some of the employees don't even know. I was unaware of this until receiving a collection notice so now a $7 toll charge is $280. I am still currently working on this. The system is ridiculously slow and several of the employees I've spoken to gave me the wrong information. PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME AN OUT OF STATE TOLL PASS WILL WORK IN ILLINOIS! AVOID THE TOLLWAY! If you must use the toll way, allways pay with cash. This will save you hours of headaches, time, trouble and money! This is one of the most inefficient and ineffective organizations I have came across. I have often traveled on this road in the past from MN to KY but that's going to change in the future. I'm just going to drive south at Rockford and miss this whole road.

The business model is criminal. You can do everyth...

The business model is criminal. You can do everything correct, have an ipass with automatic renewal and register your license plates and they will send violations that require exact violation number information to pay and cannot be viewed as connected to your ipass account because the web design is intentionally confusing and customer service is intentionally poor. When you try to dispute the violations they take weeks to get back to you via email, they never answered customer service calls or voicemails and while you wait to get clarity on violation information from them, they will continue to charge you additional late fees. If you refuse to pay $100+ violations stemming from $16 of unpaid tolls there is literally no one who will remove the additional fees with their customer service team. Unpaid violations will continue to cost more and can affect you when you go to the DMV or be sold to a harrassing collections agency.
