I am a Downers Grove resident of 24 years and I have used this facility 3 times for I-Pass Related issues. The people working here have been extremely helpful!!! Each time I have come in, I have dealt with cheerful employees that solved my problems quickly. The Illinois Government does many things poorly, but this facility and the people in it are fantastic!

The workers themselves rock. Sometimes you get someone who you can tell does not care about anything other than their paycheck if they even get paid. System says its a volunteer base staff. I would recomend staying off toll roads in Illinois if you can. If you're passing through the state put money on ahead of time cause they will fine you up with no regards to ethical business values

Ridiculous lines and though two handicapped windows, there was no way I could stand in line long enough to wait for them to become available. Can't expect more from tollway facility, I guess. Took over two hours in line for less than 5 minutes to replace faulty IPass

Good luck finding your unpaid toll online! We went through Plaza 15b on 1/20/2020 around 2pm. It took about 30 minutes trying to find our 60 cent, unpaid toll online. What a POS system for searching for tolls. It really shouldn't be harder than entering a license plate number and the toll plaza number for your search.

As a visitor to Illinois, you can no longer pay tolls with cash. Website to pay tolls later doesn t display if you live in Europe, can t pay tolls via the phone if you live in Europe, no other options exist to pay your tolls despite calling multiple times. I will surely get fines from the rental car agency plus additional late fees but they tell me that I can dispute them online....might make sense, but again, their website won t work.....

This is a legitimately shameful institution. I drove through the Chicago area on my way cross country, and must've pass through some type of express toll lane. Months later I received toll notices in the mail that included a 20 dollar penalty for each fee received, totaling above $150. There was no available process to pay the exorbitant fees online, NOR DID I EVER RECEIVE NOTICE THAT I OWED MONEY, PRIOR TO BEING CHARGED EXCESSIVE PENALTIES. I would gladly have paid the more reasonable fees for driving in whatever express lane I was in at the time. Navigating the phone tree of the Illinois Tollway was a nightmare, and obviously designed to discourage the caller. It's laughable to believe that this system is designed for anything besides generating cash flow from out of state drivers, or those who don't have cash on hand to afford the regular booth. I feel for the citizens of the Chicago metro area, for having to deal with such a nefarious despicable organization.

WARNING: "Easy pay online" signs are false advertising. For visitors not familiar with the area, the signs they have on the tollway create the impression that you can type in your license plate and pay your tolls easily online days after using the tollway. At best, this is incredibly misleading. If you try to pay online (within the deadline) after missing tolls, you will have to know precisely every toll station you passed through. If you don't know you will have to guess which tolls to pay and/or how much to pay.

I paid online the day after using the tollway, did not identify each station correctly, and was not notified until two months later with a violation bill for $150 dollars.

There is a 4-8 week lag before they identify your plates and which specific tolls you missed, which means you won't know which tolls you missed until they are already late. Their "pay online" signs deceptively create a false impression of ease. They then use a tedious process placing a huge burden of information on consumers, making it difficult to know what to pay. It's clearly an unfair system designed to maximize revenue from "violations".

If you visit the Chicago area, either pay tolls in cash or avoid the tollways altogether.

Had a strange interaction with a customer service rep there two days ago. She was rude and cut me while talking repeatedly while she had a Christmas themed dress and cap that said I ve been good . She was more like a robot than a human.

Instead of sending the same notice to inform me that my plates haven t been updated you send unpaid tolls and fees. Even though I had a transponder in the car for the last two years. Granted I went past the 7 day grace period to pay 4 missed tolls, however I had a family medical emergency and 2 days after their 7 days grace period I am attempting to pay the $5.10 for the 4 missed tolls over the phone. Customer Service states I will be receiving a violation notice in the mail and will have to pay an extra $20 for each toll missed! THIS IS HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!! Illinois has to be the most corrupt state in the Union. How is this not against the law for gouging? I will NEVER ever visit Chicago again....at least on a tollway. Avoid the tolls at all cost. Not to mention the traffic is horrendous. F You Illinois Toll Trolls!

Horrible system. It is designed to steal your money. The fines are impossible. If you have an iPass you can pay three weeks after missing the toll. If you do not have an iPass you have seven days. You CANNOT get an iPass if you owe fines. I will NEVER hire anyone who has worked for this POS entity.

One of the scummiest for profit corporations in America. 7 days to pay is an arbitrary timetable set only to ensure maximum payout. Their website will not assist in identifying missed tolls.

My wife and I accidentally were accidentally directed onto Illinois tollway by our maps app whilst traveling through Illinois for our honeymoon. Not knowing how many tolls we passed, I paid twice online at a rate of 3x the usual amount just to be safe. Several months later we received a bill for nearly $200 without prior warning. This organization is set out to virtually scam people by doing so. Until recently it was incredibly difficult to look up if you had even gone through a toll. Fines are issued without reasonable warning or billing and escalate rapidly if not received or paid on time. Appeals do not require your presence in court and mine was rejected without any clear evidence of any consideration whatsoever. Customer service was further generally unhelpful, with different individuals giving contradictory information. Obviously a money-making scheme at the expense of the general public.

So what do you say about a Government Office? In this case I would say if you have a problem with I-Pass, need another one or have a question these folks are worth going to see. But, you say you don't want to sped all day in line, right? You won't. The people here were fast and efficient. Best of all they are friendly, have a sense of humor and make what may have been a typical boring annoying visit to see some faceless Government agency was fun and easy.

When I moved to Chicago I owed a few tolls (who carries cash anymore) and sent them a money order for the full amount owed (see photo).

Despite having paid, IL Tollway sent me to their collection lawyers who were threatening me to garnish my wages. Which is a total lie because they need a court order for that. Then the lawyers disappeared.

A year later and many letters telling them I PAID with a copy of the money order number attached; IL Tollway responded with a bill of more than $600!!! Charging close to $100 for each toll of $1.50!

I could not get anywhere with IL Tollway so I contacted The Office of the Inspector General. They were totally on the side of the IL Tollway and concluded that the violation occurred with my new car (not the old car as it happened) before I got my IPASS.
Yet, this is absurd because when I go my IPASS I deposited money to my account which should cover those (imaginary) tolls. Also, I have Uber driving records which show the tolls I passed because I get reimbursed by the rideshare company.
But the woman from the Inspector General office was not interested in solving my case or seeing my evidence. Clearly, she just wanted my money.

Last week I called the IL Tollway customer service Service to add money in my IPASS. They charged my CHASE card and confirmed by email a payment was made, however without any details like the amount paid and for what.

Next day I get to a toll and they told me my IPASS was suspended. I was confused because I just made a payment the day before.

I called again and customer service keep arguing endlessly with no intention of solving the issue. So at this point I had 6 tolls I needed to pay. Customer service refused my payment of the tolls.

I got online to the IPASS and by entering my plates I finally was able to pay the tolls.

It is outrageous how the people who suppose to serve its citizens extort them with their unethical collection practices and high fines.

It is imperative to eliminate tollways, they are a hazard to drivers and an excuse to deprive people of their hard-earned money. We Chicagoans pay taxes. That should suffice.

And they took away the search by plate so you have no way to search for your unpaid toll in open tolling areas. Your driving who the hell had time to right down all those booths and half of them you can't find when you try to search your route. Just tragic

I really appreciated how they answered all of my questions and were very patient when I had to run around to gather all of the information that they needed. Highly impressed with these folks!

Called in to change vehicles on my I-pass transponder after selling one car and adding another. I-pass employee was knowledgeable and very helpful. Was done in 5 minutes. Just have your drivers license and credit card with you and know either your account number or transponder number and you're good to go.

I m pretty sure I m about to get screwed over by these guys. Have been traveling internationally and went through some tolls on the way to OHare. Total of $11.60 in tolls, but have a feeling I ll be screwed for another $100 (5x$20) because I ve paid a day late, and I can t even search for my cars number plate.

I ve ordered transponders that will never be used, so we ll see if I come back here and change the 1 star to somthing higher.

Dear public some body needs to start class action lawsuit against these thieves. They do everything possible to charge public 3x for toll because of covid19. They wouldn t let me pay my toll online in 14 days after travel but send me violation after two months.

This organization is downright terrible and crooked. I contacted them about missing a toll to set my affairs in order and:
The agent was not helpful
The computer system was not able to identify me
The computer system was not able to tell me how much I owed
The agent said that if I paid I would not be guaranteed that it would be accepted
The agent said that the only way to find out the cost and/or location of the missed tolls was to wait for a notice in the mail.
Any for-profit business that is run like this would go out of business speedily.

I can't give zero stars so I had to put 1. This is so bad, you can have a transponder in your car with funds and they will still bill you months later. They claim no money on account at time of toll but cannot justify or prove that even if you can. The state won't learn until people start leaving and stop using the toll. It not worth the hassle. I now take the extra time so I will avoid dealing with getting ripped off.
