IIT Kharagpur Review

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP) is a public engineering institution established by the government of India in 1951. It was the first of the IITs to be established, and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

As part of Nehru's dream for a free self-sufficient India, the institute was established to train scientists and engineers after India attained independence in 1947. It shares its organisational structure and undergraduate admission process with sister IITs. IIT Kharagpur has a 8.5 square kilometres (2,100 acres) campus is residence to about 22,000 inhabitants. The students and alumni of IIT Kharagpur are informally referred to as KGPians. IIT Kharagpur holds two festivals: Spring Fest (Social and Cultural Festival) and Kshitij (Techno-Management Festival).

Remarks

One of the top 7 IIT's in India which are already known for their rich heritage and impeccable campus life. I opted for this specific campus cause i heard about it's campus life which is the best of all IIT's. Also, probably one of the top schools to study Civil Engineering in India as a B.Tech with professors having advanced degrees.

Placement Wing

We have a portal called Career Development Center which deals with internship and job opportunities. Through this portal many companies apply for hiring graduates of 4th and 5th years and there is a tough competition between students to get placed for the best company.

Hostel Facilities

We have the tradition of calling hostels as halls in our campus. We have 23 hostels in total with 18 boys and 5 girls hostels. Most of our hostels have really good facilities and food and we are also funded by our alumni's for any necessary improvements like music room or a new TV.

Campus Life

We have a wide range of sports facilities like basketball, football, cricket, table tennis, swimming etc. Most of the individual hostels also have their own playgrounds along with the central facilities being open for all. The library is vast with almost 3.5 Lakh+ books of almost every topic. All labs are equipped with enough instruments for the class of students to work comfortably.

The courses taught in our campus are always constantly updated to meet professional standards with our faculty having in-depth knowledge of what is being taught and always interact lively with all the students who are interested in the subject being taught.

Our college is a host to 1 major technical fest (Kshitij) and 1 major cultural fest (Spring Fest) for which there are people attending from across India. Along with these 2 major fests we host many minor fests for different departments and other cells like entrepreneurship cell and so on.

World class academic,social and cultural environment.

This was the only IIT in 1958 when I joined.It started the IIT tradition ,the faculty was wonderful and instilled to believe in oneself and lead with confidence and explore new avenues.Proud to be an IITIAN

Dear Readers,
It is the most beautiful campus. A few might disagree beacause they are not connected with it. It has greenary everywhere. It is quiet. It is a hub of learning. Again learning is self, it can not be forced into or unto someone. There are great people who have been born out of this institution. So I beleive there will be more such great people if parents do agree to give life skills to their children rather then career skill blocking all their inner strength and values while conditioning them to be someone greater than what parents think their children should be doing. Often parents forget and push their children to the brim of sufferance, although they may be thinking happiness for them. If parents do not realise their childrens' innateness, they are pushing them in to living standards but not life standards thus bring unhappiness in everyone's life. Stop competetiveness... you children are yours. Let them be themselves rather than trying to make them someone else. This way they will be happier and can discover their innate values because of the autonomy and self acceotance for and by themselves. The affluence will then follow them without much struggle.

May all parents find happiness for and through their children. It is a pride for me to be a visitng faculty here.

Good Nice looking Campus........Very Spacious Buildings.....

It's a grand campus, dark forest, huge and old buildings, lots of facility, but no maintenance, food is very bad and after collecting food you have to show before the jury and they will put a price tag and you can pay it. No digital india except hostel office. still using cash only every where. Find Bong people only.

One of the best places for engineering courses. There are plenty of trees and roads. Almost an ideal place for studying.

The best thing here in IIT-KGP is that the students are involved in extra curricular activities other than studies and every one is active here, the extra curricular activities are not for fun but it gives the students a real life experience. The way of teaching is best without doubt but the most important thing here is the laboratories here .The labs are open till late night and anyone can visit there. Other than every thing the good thing about the campus is that the students here use cycles due to which the campus is environment friendly and pollution free. The facilities here are best and and the food is good.

One of the best place to study in India. The campus is huge and the atmosphere is really great for the overall development of a student.

This place is one of the most beautiful place for studying and also historical importance.

Existing greenery can only prevent air pollution to some extent.

The oldest IIT and the one of the best Institute of the country for higher technical Education. I spent over 2 years here as a part of my PhD and the available resources are world class.

This campus is located five kilometres away from Kharagpur's railway station. The layout of the present campus and the design of the buildings were carried out by a group of engineers and architects under the guidance of Werner M. Moser, a Swiss architect.
