Local supermarket, very friendly and helpful staff...
Local supermarket, very friendly and helpful staff.
Local supermarket, very friendly and helpful staff.
Selection of goods that aren't available in Food Works. But it is a bit more expensive.
Good place to obtain clean fresh food, banana oranges for hungry lil kids.
Expensive have small and large sizes not medium....
You need to check expiry dates and freshness of fruit and veg when you shop here - they sell things right up to the expiry date and I've brought home rotten produce twice now. They need to up their game. And it's expensive.
The check out is a nightmare if there is going to be "checkout rage" it will be there
Busy supermarket with friendly service and heaps of choices for its size and good prices
Excellent well-stocked IGA with super friendly staff and plenty of checkout staffed by humans only. Slightly more expensive than larger big brand stores, particularly for fruit and veg, however they have a range of rotating specials. There's a back door if you get anxious about the harmless beggers out front. No card surcharge and can get cash out. Please stock 'Just Rooibos' tea as I have to go to Woolies to get this :(
Good selection of produce but a bit more pricey than other supermarkets
Good supermarket, with lots of manager special. Some are cheaper then the big boys. I just pick up salad server basil pesto chicken and 500ml orange juice for less than $10, that was a good bargain for my lunch.
Good little supermarket. Prices are a bit higher than the big guys but that is to be expected with what I assume is a privately owned store in an expensive area. Staff are friendly enough too.
Only real problem isn't with the store as such, its the pesky beggars that often gather out the front of the store and harass customers for change. Some can be quite aggressive and can become abusive. They may have been (thankfully) forced to move along recently as the last 2 times I have been here there have been no beggars.
Edit: Nov 2017 - unfortunately the beggars are still frequenting the front of the store and are just as annoying as always. I feel sorry for businesses having to put up with this!
This is small super market. They have an adequate range of food, but might not have the full range of larger shops.
Good supermarket with parking out back. Great fruit and veg coke life in the fridge and a good range of Whittakers chocolate.
Staff are good. Hours open are awesome. Prices let you down & pretty much no other competitors to keep prices low
Always have specials happening eg bread, beans, biscuits. Decent choices of healthier food offerings.
Convenient place to get groceries from, some things can be a little expensive.
small place for groceries but you can find most basic stuff
Where the locals shop. Friendly staff. Beware the omnipresent begging at the front door.
Good local Supermarket...and they still give you a plastic bag...bonus
Four stars for the friendly staff. Could be cheaper :)
Best thing about this place is the service. Fresh fruit/veg a bit pricey but otherwise can find good specials.
Small supermarket but pretty good range. Costs a bit more.
Good fresh produce. Polite and efficient staff. Reasonable prices.
Busy place has everything that you need staff are very helpful a bit pricey
I could not find a staff member that spoke english well enough to understand what I was after. The place feels disorganised and chaotic to me
I always have a great shopping experience at IGA Newtown, it is my local supermarket and I've been shopping there since it opened, the staff are friendly and they have a great and varied range of products for the size of the store. I had a problem with a product that my elderly father purchased which was faulty and he wasn't given a receipt, so I phoned the store and spoke to the manager on duty Robert, he was fantastic, I took the product back and he sorted out quick smart with a smile on his face, he was helpful, friendly and his customer service skills are second to none. This is what separates IGA from Woolworths and Coles, they are truly local for the locals. So I'd like to say thanks again to Robert you Rock!
Spare change? Spare change? Spare change? Spare change? Spare change?
Shelves are always empty, overpriced and the fruit n veggies have insects swarming above. Staff were friendly that's the only thing good I can say.
Pretty good quick grocery shopping with the parking lot behind the building, access through Lenox Street.
Great staff. Fresh produce. Wish there was a self service machine here, however.
Convienently located in the centre of King St. But the Prices reflect that. OKAY for basics but not a great variety if you are looking to do a full weeks shopping. Open late everyday of the week. However there are always people begging for money just outside the front doors so be prepared to be asked for your change and sworn at by some if you don't give it.
Wont be shopping there to much apart frm just basic things I run out of way too expensive . They seem to have doubled in price
I love IGA Newtown. It's more expensive than Coles and Woolies, or even Foodworks, but you're paying for convenience if you either live very close by, or want to shop in Newtown late at night when it s the only option. I have one complaint about this place, which is that they've never sorted out a way to get people to queue for tills so that you can reliably see which till is free from the front of the queue.
Has all the usual stuff, loses a star for having the entire FYNA chocolate licorice line EXCEPT the milk chocolate coated red licorice bullets. How is this even possible! The intense rush I feel when seeing all the others and then bitter disappointment of not finding the holy grail of chocolate entombed licorice will never leave me. Perhaps next time I thought, but alas over the course of 6 months they have not eventuated, not even a lone price sticker alluding to their presence.
Has everything. But very expensive. You can park out the back and come in the back door. It a public car park so it is $2 an hour. Max of 2 hours.
I have been here a few times and they don't really have a lot to offer. Aldi is ten times better than IGA.
Pretty good for an iga, quite convenient to walk through
Can find most things I want here. Not big so not a big range. But enough for mid week shops
Staff are friendly. Good range of products considering it is quite a small space. Expensive compared to most other major supermarkets.
Friendly staff, good selection always a pleasure going there
Nice place to shop very week special offer I love it too great
Pretty good for a local supermarket, clean store and friendly staff.
Small but pretty decent range a bit more expensive than coles of woolies but a great option
Cool store but you lose a star for stocking Coke Orange with no sugar.
Good carpark and access to King St with decent range of quality groceries to suit all budgets.
Really tiny iga but really handy, prices ok. They have a really good range of flowers! Isles are really small. staff are constantly on the floors making it difficult to get stuff.
What can you say about a supermarket? It's not as large as some others, but all the staples are there.
Last time i was shopping here i ran into a young folk, i think his name was Olip or Oli or something like that. He was extremely friendly and helpful and knew where all the stuff where. An employee like him should be appraised, will be coming back.
Old stock and slow checkout staff... And their prices aren't that great either.
Clean place with some stocked items we couldn't find elsewhere in Newtown, Staff are friendly
There was literally rank cut-up watermelon sitting on their shelves which had one of the worst stenches I ve ever encountered.
My local supermarket. Not cheap but convenient and regular discounting. Staff overall are helpful and polite.
Nope. Overpriced as hell. If it wasn't open later than the Foodworks down the road, I would never go here. On the other hand, it's great in a pinch and the staff are usually cordial if not completely dead inside. Save yourself some money, heartache and disappointment and run down to Woolies Esrkineville - the quality is double.
Friendly Service and very helpful staff! They can also stock anything you might not be able to get from the chain supermarkets!
There is something wrong with the pricing in this store.
"buy 3 for $6 save $2.07" - single sale "$2.39"
Great for last minute shopping. Just don't look for those discounts that coles/woolies have.
Tonight at 7:30pm I purchased 2 bags of potatoes for the wrong price. I went to refunded as it was overpriced. When I went to the cashiers the cashiers weren't as friendly. I believe they were just really tired as you can see their discontent on their faces. Anyhow, what started as a pain in the butt ended up with a such a great customer experience with the manager's intervention. He was friendly, polite and very helpful . He went to check the price for himself and realized the mistake and gave us the potatoes for free. I don't usually shop at Newtown but after this experience regardless of the staff on duty I will come more often for groceries and I will recommend this shop to my friends as I can see the dedication and passion through tge manager's work.
This place has very good check out service. Many shoppers walk out when they see a queue of 8 people. However, if they had purchased the one or two items they would have left the shop much the same time as they left empty handed. Great staff and strong support for the community.
Very nice and easy to use for everything I love to go there
