I love the workshops and classes. Picking up a new hobby is always difficult so it s so nice to do this with Natalie and Sabine teaching and checking I m not making a mistake that at home I would have made. I did the bomber jacket workshop and I am now joining regular sewing classes. Lovely vibe too!

I don't know why these guys only have two stars but whatever.. from me it's 5 STARS!!!! I am two thirds of the way through their lingerie making workshop and it's awesome!
I'm super glad I found them and gladder (sp?) still that I took the plunge to take this course. Natalie who's the lingerie making specialist is our teacher and she's great!
There's always a pot of water going for a hot cup of tea and plenty of fabrics to fawn over. I would only love if the classes were slightly longer because you get so caught up, 2 hours zips by before you know it.
Highly recommended if you have been meaning to start or finish a sewing project or- take on one of their workshops. The ladies who run this are super great!
Super nice place and good lessons, everything is explained to you with peace and attention. Learned a lot from the lessons and often enjoyed it at home projects!
Very horrible place. Poor teaching. She couldn't put me through as a beginner.I even left my hours for them. Terrible! Thank God I found a better place. Now I can sew very well with nice finishing.
I was so excited to take a sewing class since I've never touched a sewing machine before. I am a beginner so I took the bag workshop. I had the feeling that they didn't care about the students. Every time I needed help I had to wait more than 10 minutes wondering where is the teacher.. Nobody was there when I had a question. I had to wait again and again. The person came to help me for few minutes then left again for a long time. I was disappointed at the end. Too bad because I was planning to take more lessons. :/
i ve never left a comment on google before but i had to now because this place is really good. It s very cozy with chill music and they ll help in whatever sewing project you got after teaching you to sew as a beginner. i took 15 beginners sewing classes and now i ll hopefully get the pattern making class. I for sure RECOMMEND this place.
We waited around for 10 minutes when we arrived. There was a confusion about our tote bag class booking. Ok fine- that can happen. No worries. Then it continued to get worse. We finally get the fabric 45 minutes in but didn t get instructions for another 10 minutes. Other people were being helped so we were just wasting time. We finally got directions and were able to start tracing/cutting out the pattern. After that- we had to wait a while for the teacher again. It was a lot of waiting around and no one was able to finish the tote bag. It was a lot of money for very little instruction / not even time to finish. I gave it two stars because it was cozy in the shop/sewing room. If you know how to sew- it s a good deal but otherwise- with my experience today- you ll never finish and you ll be stuck with two useless pieces of fabric. Very unorganized.
I am Nold (New & Old!) and De Steek are parts of an amazing enterprise! So many great things to say, but in case you scroll past this soon, here are the important points: -Personalized Instruction from How do I thread and operate a sewing machine? to Let s add a custom gathered wrist line to this pattern. -Sustainability is a part of the foundation of the business. -Locally owned, woman-owned business -Gathering spot that builds community -Staff speaks Dutch and English. Most workshops are or can be taught in English (they adjust to the audience)

Some details for those interested, from my insights as a customer over the past year:
You can sign up for specific, one-day workshops with staff and guest teacher (like weaving, sewing a tote bag or tee shirt, macrame, plant-based dyeing, embroidery, the list is ever-changing...). They teach these often by giving a basic instruction to the group, and then going person-by-person to help you through it individually. Then, they address the group again for the next step, and so on... Tell the instructor at the start if you want a lot of support!
You can sign up for multi-week courses! Rome wasn t built in a day, and neither will your first pair of home-made trousers!
You can sign up for freestyle sewing help ( sewing cafe ). You schedule time for a very reasonable rate, and you get to use all of their equipment (I don t have a surger or rotary cutter at home, but they will even show me how to use them). Plus, and it s a big plus, you can ask as many questions as you want. I ve learned to follow a pattern during sewing cafe! I learned several mending techniques to save a bunch of garments from retirement! The staff can help you select appropriate fabric types and choose the best techniques for the project at hand.
You can join special events! They hosted a fabulous clothing and fabric swap this year, and hopefully more to come!
You can buy sustainable sewing supplies! Organic fabric & interfacing, low-plastic tools like scissors, and supplies with low or no plastic packaging like needles and measuring tapes.
You can have tea and a cookie while meeting people with similar (and different) interests! I ve met paper artisans and translators, plant collectors and fashonistas, all willing to share a smile while we work through the project at hand.
I strongly recommend going here if any of the above appeals to you!!! (But if you re a grouch who hates to learn, maybe stick to on-line tutorials. Oh, they offer those, too!)
Took my first sewing class ever yesterday and cannot be happier for choosing I am Nold. After first lesson I, as absolute beginner, managed to put together nice tote back and learn a lot. Guidance provided by Natalie was brilliant and she really helped me make a progress. She was very helpful. Definitely made me motivated to take more classes and progress with my sewing.
Also got some recommendation on further progress which is always nice.
Like the vibe of the place, there is always nice cup of tea / coffee so looking forward to go back.
If you ever wanted to learn how to saw, this is the place.
