Students drive like jerks and are perfectly happy to cut you off and act like you were worse than Hitler for not letting them in or knowing that all lanes belonged to them. Clearly turn signals are for losers as those that go to Community College now communicate through telepathy.

I applied at Hudson valley in nov, 21st 2016. I kept calling the admissions department because as a student I was trying to find someone to guide me in my first experience in college. No one ever called me I had to call to check the status of my FAFSA and the application procedure, the lady that works in admissions is so unprofessional she only answers what you ask her she wont guide you through the process and doesn't show interest in what you're trying to accomplish. I had the same issue in the financial aid department I had to submit 2 FAFSA, went there so they could help me fill out the verification worksheet after everything was submitted and she told me that everything was processing on Friday. I received an email on Monday(last day to have everything ready) saying that my verification worksheet had a mistake and that I had to go there to fix it or fax It to her. Mind you, I am speaking with the person who told me that everything on the worksheet looked fine. I was late because of the miscommunication of some staff member. I went to cashier to pay my 50% of my FAFSA and they never said that there was a fee for re scheduling the classes I found this out through my boyfriend who was speaking with another staff member. I mean HOW LONG should it take me to enroll? I was trying to do everything as early as possible because I am on my own and I work full time at a bank. They need to really have everybody giving out the RIGHT information because nobody wants to waste their financial aid on a college that has poor staffing and wrong information wherever you go. Orientation department and the health department were the only people that helped me and guide me through what I had questions about.

School is Great! Teachers are very helpful and smart. There is a good selection of classes to take. Students are pretty friendly and mind their business. One of the best decisions i ever made was going here.

Great School, but don't go for I.T. (Information Sciences)

Awesome school! They have free tutors, awesome professors, a great campus, and an incredible learning environment.

For these reasons I would give them 5 stars, but the I.T. department (at least the intro to computer sciences course) is absolutely atrocious. The majority of your grade comes from taking "quizzes" - I would say they are more like tests, from a book that is from 2016, and its almost 2020. A lot of the information is obsolete (They teach you about cassette tape storage but make no mention of NVME SSD's). In any other class a book from 2016 would be fine, but I.T. is such a fast paced, always advancing science. The first quiz I took I got an 81, which surprised me because I'm a straight A student. I asked for advice from my professor and he said these quizzes aren't like normal quizzes, instead of trying to take away the key points, they want you to memorize the most obscure facts. LOL! The worst thing is a lot of the questions are not only deceptively wording (and they admit it), AND every quiz has at least one or two questions that absolutely aren't in the reading you are being quizzed on. When you ask the professor to show you where the book he'll say OK, realize he can't find it, and you'll get an answer like "Well it had to be in there for a reason" and makes no attempt to ratify the situation. Changing my major today. What a shame.

If you are interested in computer sciences, check out Comp TIA or CISCO certifications. Much more practical.

I don't mean to complain I just hope someone sees this review and it prevents them from making the same mistake I did.

Enrolled here for a few gen ed classes. Very hit-or-miss with the professors, so deff look them up before deciding. Quality education for sure, but they could organize their administration a little better.

I've read so many bad reviews over here, but in my experience everything has been great. I'm very happy to be part of the community, there's a great atmosphere, library is great, food is good and very cheap, so much variety in terms of student clubs, sports, ethnicities, extracurricular activities. I'm loving this place so far... and yes it's tough.. final weeks are the busiest.

Professors are great. Discount movie tickets. I took chemical dependency and Brian Farr is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is invested in his position and very passionate about the field. The campus is designed nicely and classes are priced fairly. Highly recommend.

Do not take auto Cad thru workforce development unless you have some experience or have plenty of time or a tutor the lady flys thru it an advises you to seek youtube which is a good source but she could just slow down a bit. She is a bit callous an arrogant not good teacher qualities. Also the department says you will have small classes .they had almost 20 which is large for a auto Cad class. They just want money so beware 625 dollars they offer it Mon tues thurs 530 till 830 or 9pm for adults noncredit . this class is for individuals who have experience or time with computer access. They need to just be honest an offer an actual beginner course instead of saying you don't need experience. You need experience at least the basics. just a forewarning before you give up that money if you work hard for your money

I wish that I could give a 0 star rating. Hudson V...

I wish that I could give a 0 star rating. Hudson Valley Community College tore apart my dreams. I am in love with attending school, taking classes, and learning. I worked insanely hard so that I could go back to school, and when I finally got there, I looked forward to attending my classes. I'd come home super excited to share what I learned each day with family and friends. I even joined an athletic team for the first time in my life. It was a dream come true, and it was all that I ever wanted. But everything changed when I met the student who wound up sexually assaulting me after I very clearly stated "No" several times. The school put me through a horrible trial process where I had to listen to the boy who raped me lie, and change his story several times. I was laughed at by a coordinator of the process when I asked if during an actual judicial process I could submit myself to a lie detector test. I don't see what was so funny about it. The school did absolutely nothing about it and is allowing the boy who raped me back on campus without any penalty. Not even counseling. I don't feel safe as a student of a school that is going to let another student force themselves on me after I have outright said no, and I certainly don't want to give them any more of my money out of pocket if they aren't going to protect me or let me finish the rest of my degree in peace. I have withdrawn from my classes, requested my money back, and am seeking to continue my education elsewhere. I am a determined, passionate, intelligent student and HVCC lost that. Go right ahead and keep your rapist student who uses your campus as a hunting ground rather than a place to learn. Anyone who plans on attending this school, just know that the boy who raped me is allowed back on campus and was shown by this school that there is no repercussion to forcing himself onto another student. Be weary of other students, and I pray that you're able to work towards your dreams without having them completely derailed by someone who doesn't understand what the word "No" means, or a school that doesn't understand it either.
Don't even try to respond to me with your regurgitated "Providing a safe environment for our students is a top priority" nonsense. You can copy and paste it over and over again, but you didn't provide a safe environment for me. You put me through hell. I cry every single day because of how much I love school but had to let it go so that I could feel safe. It shatters my heart over and over again, but I will pick up the pieces and I will go on to do great things with my life. Just not as one of your students.

I am a returning student from around 2008 and I took the spring semester and am now finishing my associates in the summer. Honestly my experience was very good with professors and advisers. I am a fully online student so I don't deal with the professors in person. I would have given a 4 or 5 star review until this past week. According to the website for the school bookstore, the bookstore is run by a non profit organization and "all profits go towards improving the student experience." That may be true but they must be running short on funds because my experience at the bookstore was horrid. I went last Wednesday and purchased books for the summer semester. I gave the employee my schedule with all my class info including numbers for the classes. The books were expensive but they always are so I didn't think much of it. I got home and found that 2 things were wrong. One of my classes didn't need a book but an access code for an online resource. They gave me the incorrect product. I also received a book for my Modern China class which is a small book and only available new with no used copies available. I got home and looked at the book and the front cover was bent in half and half of the pages top corners were bending quite a bit up. It would not have really bothered me if not for the fact that renting a new book is around $125 and renting a used one is around $85. It is unacceptable that they sold a used book as new. That is very unethical and ridiculous. I called them and was told I could bring the book back in and get a better copy. Not knowing what was going to happen I return to the bookstore while taking time off of work because of a mistake that they made. They refused to admit responsibility in either of these mistakes. They were adamant that this book about China is brand new even when the new copy they gave me was in much better condition with a completely flat cover and pages. The worst part is when they went to get the book the employee who was "helping," me asked her helper to go see if he could find a "pristine," copy for the customer. She was mocking me due to the fact that I did not want to accept their used book as a new book even though they were blatantly lying. I am just ecstatic that this is my last semester at HVCC and I will never have to deal with these condescending, rude, and dishonest people at this school.

GREAT school, love the professors, and love the campus. 2 years here and I feel like i got what I came here for :D the work load depends on the teacher, so no slacking off, it may be a community college, but they don't play around. It's your money anyway.

BADLY DESIGNED WEBSITE

BADLY DESIGNED WEBSITE

I tried to find a class, online on their site, that I knew was in the schedule, a craft class held at the Arts center...
I spent 10 minutes on the portal, and was unable to navigate it (I myself am an IT developer...)

One would expect that the course listing ( with possibly a way to find the status of seat-availability, and ways to register) would be available on the main tool bar. Nope.
I had to search various categories, got a PDF list but could not find more info since there does not seem to be a Category like Art, or Craft. At least easily found.

Badly designed site, esp given that you have your own IT department. All the information Might be there somewhere, but a bad design makes it frustrating to navigate.
I gave up and will have to call the Art Center for help......

Avoid this place at all costs. My first month was great and I felt like I was dreaming. I was part of the "E-Sports Club" (aka an absolute mess of kids that flood the campus center with TVs and loud obnoxious voices) when an unnamed girl who doesn't like me because I was nice to her girlfriend decided to abuse the college's garbage judicial system by falsely accusing me of sexual harassment. I lost all my friends, I couldn't walk freely around campus, and I felt so anxious that I threw up in their extremely dirty bathrooms every single day. My math professor was also very unhelpful and encouraged me to drop the class when I was struggling rather than assisting me. Needless to say, I failed that and one other class the first semester. I now have to re-take those classes and spend more money because the professors were unwilling to assist me. I tried to be optimistic and keep a level head for next semester because it was just one professor and a girl who obviously has issues. Today is the first day of the Spring semester and my student loan didn't go through. I was sent back and forth all across campus, talking to entitled and disrespectful receptionists who scoffed and laughed when mentioning my issues, obviously enraged at this point. I'm now sitting in the library typing this review. My parents are going to keep forcing me to go here, but I absolutely despise it here. If you want your sanity, reputation, and mental health to stay intact, you will not go here.
