THE EMERGENCY ROOM IS ONE OF THE WORSE IN THE COUNTRY.I SIT IN THERE FOR 17 HRS BLEEDING WITH NO DOCTOR ON DUTY. I WALK OUT TO FIND OUT LATER BLADDER RUPTURE AND NEEDED 4 BLOOD TRANSFUSION PLUS A OPERATION IN A CH'VILLE VA HOSPITAL SHAME ON YOU FOR FAILING THE VETERANS.I CAN GET PLENTY VETS TO BACK ME ON YOUR POOR SERVICE.

I want to thank my primary physician,Dr.M. Glazier & all of the nurses and staff of the Green clinic for giving me the best treatment & care that I have ever received from any of the 4 VA HOSPITALS that I have been to.Also, my greatest dentist ever,Dr. Katherin Martin & her team! Thanks to the podiatry & surgical procedures team for my 2 surgeries! My physical therapiest Brittany & my occupation therapiest.my doctors and nurses in the eye clinic for my Glaucoma treatment and eyeglasses! Thanks to the X-Ray and CT scan department for my X-Rays and scans! I appreciate all that the orthopedic department has done for me & the surgeons who are going to operate on my right shoulder.I would like to express sincere gratitude to my team leader and transition advocate, Mrs Terry Pope for all that she has done fighting for my compensation for me! I will forever be grateful to her! I would like to express sincere gratitude for the "late"head nurse of the mental health ward,Danice Merchant, who was instrumental in saving my life in1986 ! The hospital and staff of the recreational department for my in hospital activities and support. The American legion office and the hospital volunteers! I'm sure that I have forgotten to thank many people by name, and I'm bias because I get priority care, but I can say that Hunter Holmes,Mcguire is like a second home for me and a sanctuary. I've seen the improvement in every aspect of the hospital since1986,however some areas may fall short at times, my opinion is that its the leading VA HOSPITAL in Virginia. Some judgments may be on individual basis. In April of 2016 I was barefoot and homeless,& I like to express to people how much I have accomplished since then, financing a jeep, getting a VA home loan, 4 credit cards...but the truth is that I couldn't have done all of this on my own without all of the help from Mcguire and the VA system, and that's the best review that I can give you !

UNSANITARY!! Also as an inpatient for the last 4 months, I have seen how inefficiently the staff is managed. The nurse are extremely short staffed, and even when they aren't on occasion, they still take forever to do anything. Most of them don't care to even answer the call bell. In addition, the have no common sense or initiative. They just look at you with a dumb look on their face and wait for specific instruction when things are mostly obvious.

No finer team than the Prosthetics Dept. for a Marine's wish, " A brand new Christmas leg." Lightweight, comfort, & mobile R extraordinary gifts to return to a Veteran. Extraordinary gentlemen create opportunity & quality for Veterans.

Sometimes you feel like you're on a big merry-go-round. They have kept me alive so I'm not going to complain. I just wish the restrooms could be cleaner. They are disgusting. This is socialized medicine at it's best and I've chosen it so I grin and bare it.

Downright terrible customer and patient service. Unbelievably slow and rude. On the phone and face to face. The VA just Aboslutely totally sucks. There is no organization and No direct answers from anybody.

I was forced to amend my previous review after having the good fortune and opportunity to visit this facility. My initial contact with the VA 7 years before had been poisoned by ineptitude, incompetence, and a general lack of resources for those who were in the system and cared to do their jobs.

Since I have conducted another attempt at receiving care for my PTSD and injured back, I have found McGuire Hunter to be an excellent facility, with caring and competent staff. I have yet to find a staff member who does not care, direct, listen, or express some form of gratitude. It is quite a pleasant surprise.

The only issue that remains is environmental. The exams rooms are not being cleaned to any sort of standard. General cleanliness in this particular hospital is below the standards of other hospitals I have been in. The hospital is less than immaculate, but not filthy or unsanitary.

Had the unfortunate chance of visiting Urgent Care last night and upon entering The Hunter Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center, I was appalled and shocked at the same time. This VA Medical Center was Filthy, Nasty, Disgusting and Dirty. The ER Room was horrible and Dirty, Hell the street outside the hospital was cleaner than this hospital. Damn we serve our Country and have to be subject to Sub-Par Conditions. After visiting the McGuire VA Medical Center and countless other, I ve instructed my family if I m every in a situation of obtaining Service From any VA Medical vs. Dying, Let Me Die , I ll Be Damn If I ll Be Going To The Any Death Chamber VA Medical Centers and Come Out Worse. The Leadership And VISN6 should be shamed of themselves and It s obvious the Leadership do not walk through the Urgent Care Department or look at the filthy nasty and disgusting floors!
I bet the Veteran Employees don t even care how the treat the Veterans. Because It s a paycheck to the and we Veterans are Cash-Cows To Them I am surprised that The JOINT COMMISIIONS ON HOSPITALS HAVE NOT FINED THEM
To my fellow Veterans keep you head up, change is coming sooner or later One good note, my Nurse was very pleasant The doctor on the other hand, Just said yes have a red throat, here is some amoxicillin, have a nice day
PISS POOR EXCUSE FOR A VA MEDICAL CENTER .Thank God For The Choice Program and Private PCP s .

Compared to other VA medical centers, this is one of the biggest ones. There are almost every type of specialty of medicine represented here. I find the staff here really appreciate the veterans they serve. Just be aware that the parking situation can be difficult. There isn't as much parking as there should be for such a big facility. If you have an appointment here, try to come early so you can find a spot.

Great service to Veterans! Everyone is always so friendly! I also feel that the care they provide is top notch! I love our case manager mallory nelson and her team. They treat us like family and really have pushed for us and helped my wife and I get where we are today!

Have been coming here since 2012. I must say the overall care here far surpasses the majority of outside care facilities. I have insurance and can go to a hospital or Doctor of choice HOWEVER, I prefer the VA (At least here in Richmond/Fredericksburg clinic). They seem more competent and caring than any outside facility I have visited. Perhaps the rest of the nations VA Hospitals should take a page from McGuire!

Exceptional! Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My father is receiving the best care possible. Even with the constant cuts to federal funding, they are amazing. Runs better than any healthcare system I have ever seen.

I notice replies to negative reviews ask the reviewer to phone the Patient experience/advocate office to have their matter looked into. I phoned the Patient Advocate's office three times starting back prior to Christmas and the last being about 7 days ago.. I have yet to receive a call back. They never answer when phoned. Their voicemail states my call is very important and I will be contacted about my concern as soon as possible. Obviously my concern is not important at all. The funny thing is I could once write them on Health e vet and did so only once. It was a situation very similar to why I now need to contact them. I received a quick resolution when I could write to them. Then suddenly their address disappeared from my address list and for some reason an address for the Women's Veteran program appeared. I'm not a woman and have no need to write this office. For those who do not know, the veteran cannot write any office not populated to their address list. I asked several veterans how to handle the situation. I was told to first try phoning the director's office. When I did so, the operator would not place the call. They said I had to go through the Patient advocate office.... The very office I cannot get to return my call. They did suggest maybe I could notify the Veteran's Affairs office at the hospital. They placed this call. I left a detailed message explaining that I may actually be calling an office not able to help me, but to please let me know such. I have not received a call from this office either. This was on 9 Jan 2020. Today is 15 Jan 2020.
All of this comes from a situation where medicine mailed to me shows it was delivered and I never received it. I know through experience writing an office gets better results than phoning. I simply wanted to have the pharmacy added to my mailing list. It is not yet done and could've been easily resolved weeks ago. This is very telling. Such a simple situation goes with no help from the very office employed to help me. I have absolutely no doubt this type of situation occurs frequently and with more serious consequences to the veteran. I simply needed my medicine mailed again.
I have done further research and have prepared to contact the Secretary of Veteran's Affairs, Robert Wilkie. I will as well, contact Abigail Spanberger as she is my representative.

My Dad went in for a bypass which went very well. While in recovery, he had a rare reaction to a drug he was on causing cardiac arrest from a HIT type II reaction. It formed antibodies all over his body including his heart. This team of doctors and nurses not only recognized his issues but almost completely resolved them and helped him work through many difficult obstacles. We are not out of the woods but damn close and I will always be appreciative of the medical team in the SICU, ICU, and the heart doctors who took care of my Dad.

The doctors and clinics are great, but the travel section should be replaced. When I inquired about a discrepancy about a travel claim, I was told by the travel office that I would have to go somewhere else. They made my appointment in Richmond and did not tell me I would have to go to emporia. I would like to speak with someone in charge of Mcquire. I am going to contact my congressman after I speak with someone at Mcquire. Please get in touch with me.

A hospital entrance should not spell as I I walking into a port-a-john. With the millions of dollars in upgrades you would expect that the facility would be able to afford air fresher's to combat the horrid spell throughout.

This is my first time letting the VA attend to my medical needs. I'm a 20yr C6-C7 high level Quadriplegic and I have received nothing but the best care and advice from the Doctors, Occupational and Physical therapist and Nursing staff. I have the upmost respect for each and every one of them on my care team! I just want to say THANK YOU!

My father was in the ER waiting room for over an hour with pronounced Shortness of Breath because of CHF. I called the ER from another State to question their triage protocol and Becky who I spoken to was not sensitive, conservative, or shown the key principle - integrity. How could the ER staff be so negligent.

Over crowded, the staff is over worked and don't care. Getting care takes on average 3-4 months. People with no insurance get better care then our VETS, It's a death machine .
Rather have died in uniform then to be subjected to this place.

Horrific experience and as God as my witness, I am not lying or exaggerating. I entered their Emergency Dept. for chest pain. What they did, instead of helping me or treating me was place me in the psychiatric unit and refused to give me my prescribed heart and blood pressure medications. They held me for 7 days as my blood pressure continued to climb day by day and they continually refused my pleas for my medications. In my view, I was tortured for 7 days and my death seemed to be their goal. Of course they got away with this too; no one believed me and the Patient Advocate's office treated me like a joke. What I can tell you is do not go into this place.

This rating is for the eye clinic. My dad had a 2 pm appointment. It's now 3:52 PM and still waiting. 20 minutes ago I was told he was 5th in line. However, 8 people have been called. This does not make sense.

Girl at the window said there are 5 clinics going at the same time.

I have been receiving treatment at McGuire for decades but only because I cannot afford private insurance. The hospital tends to used medical students instead of hiring fully trained, accredited doctors and my health has all too often paid the price. I have had to wait up to six months just to see a primary physician and even longer to see a specialist. I had to wait over a year for McGuire to approve outsourcing for my hysterectomy while I suffered in pain because they do not perform women's surgeries. I recently obtained my medical records from McGuire and am shocked at the outright lies that doctors and clinicians have written in my permanent medical files. It is absolutely disgusting. I will no longer go seek treatment there, even if it means being sick. I would rather go into debt and be seen at an E.R. at another hospital than to let anyone at McGuire VAMC ever treat my medical needs again. The only exception I can find in that dismal place is Dr. Erin Lindsay Reese in Dermatology. She is truly a wonderful doctor.

I started using Hunter Homes McGuire a few years ago and loved it until last year they moved me out of my normal clinic and now I see a doctor that seems like a joke and doesn t care. A doctor that will cancel your appointment the day of. Also same doctor sends a letter saying I need more blood work for me to call his nurse which I did and still no answer when to come do blood work. Then the icing on the cake was neurologist left and I received a call that I needed to reschedule so I call them back the neurologist said I didn t need to be seen until November here it is in September with me waiting to get injections now I need to wait another two months.

The eye clinic front office help is the worst in customer service. This place over books -- and expect you sit around 4 -5 hours waiting for your appt. If you have an appt at late in the afternoon...this people leave...and rude about it too. It is true about the rumor I heard...It is a bunch of unskilled all related and unprofessional collecting a paycheck and not giving a damn about the VETERANS.

Rude staff and HUGE PROBLEM OF REVERSE RACISM! Staff needs to realize people who served in military are probably the least racist of all so STOP taking your hate out on whitey! NOBODY wants to admit this, but we all know it is true at the VA, so I have let it be heard. I have had some really bad primary doctor visits here, really bad. So bad I marched myself into the Directors Office once, so let down by the VA. They need to clean it all up, there are plenty of good folks that need work who are professional and care about veterans and the VA always seems to hire the least qualified and rudest staff they can find. I am willing to bet most of the staff got their jobs from friends after they absorbed most of their life on welfare, now, as a disabled veteran you are scum second-class citizen-mind you not while they were spending years on the couch eating cheetos, watching Jerry enjoying their freedom, you go to war protect their freedoms get f'd up and this is how it turns out. Wish I was a lot wiser when I was younger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would rather die than go back to this place.
