On vacation from Ohio, we stopped in to see what a co-op is all about. They had a very large selection of local products and locally made foods. Everything on the shelves and behind the counter just looked as though it was made fresh just minutes ago. The bakery items alone that we tried got us talking about coming back in the fall. If you are in the area, stop in! I almost guarantee you'll walk out with something new and exciting to try!

A nice COOP with a great selection of organic everything. Some stuff is priced competitively, other stuff isn't. Of course it's more expensive than conventional items at regular stores, but compared to organic prices at the bigger grocer store chains certain things (like bell peppers) are WAY over priced. Generally speaking prices are on par with the organic and natural stuff at other stores. We do most of our grocery shopping at Hunger Mountain COOP, but there's some stuff we just can't justify the price of.

Good quality foods. The hot and cold bar have improved. I think they should find a new soup supplier. Same old soups not so great. I find the pricing really high. It's the most expensive place in town to buy a coffee. Strange considering a co-op is there to benefit it's members. One theory is that the co-op is prioritizing it's employee's over member benefits.....not sure of that but could be.

This is a great place to find local foods, sustainable products, and to grab a bite to eat. They also do Catering and you can order things in bulk from them just by going to the front desk. The Cheese selection is well complimented by a wide array of craft libations, from wine to artesian ice cider to some rather popular local beers like Heady Topper.
Prices are a bit higher than at Shaw's for some things, but overall the quality is superior, and you can actually make a day trip to see many of the producers in person. (A great Idea if you have children)
There's also a great Membership program that's only $15 per year, which makes you eligible for some really good discounts on some of the very tasty, but a bit expensive for everyday shopping, foods. As well has sustainabily sourced/produced goods. Like PACT Cotton goods produced by women making a living wage in India, from sustainable cotton production methods. Another reason to buy is the cotton is extremely soft, and really durable.
Another thing about HMC is that you are supporting a community resource that actually keeps your dollars right here helping those in need every day. It is a way to do something good for your community as well as to get some great stuff that won't let you down.

Prices are what you would expect for a co-op. That being said, any Vermont beercation should start or end here. Lots of the Vermont breweries in stock/on rotation. You might find some gems and not even wink at the famed heady topper. Too many good choices nowadays. Rest of the co-op offerings are good too, and local. Mmmm, cheese. Any flatty can feel like a crunchy vermonter, if only for a day.

As a member of the Coop for several years, I've become used to (and take for granted) the good variety of healthy foods it offers, as well as the friendly service of the staff members there. Lots of local products, lots of organics, lots of prepared foods and bulk foods. Good variety of useful basics, excellent cheeses, lovely local baked goods. Prices are higher than the chain supermarkets for some things, lower on the bulk items. Overall a great resource to the community.
