Great experience adopting here. Wonderful, helpful staff, healthy animals and you get a lot of extras with your adoption, like training. I got a lot of extra information specific to the dog I adopted as they seem to take a personal interest in each animal. We got a call from their vet the next morning checking in on him. Very nice, clean facility and the option to bring your dog in to meet the new dog.Their hold policy was nice too especially since I had to make two trips up there from south Aurora and plan travel for the dog to his forever home. And "Nico" lived happy ever after

Relinquished my dog. They called early the next day to say she was unadoptable. It's a crock of s***! They just take your money to relinquish and then w/o really even trying they say oh she's not adoptable. I have 24 hours to pick her up, which we will. But what a waste of time, fuel and money!
Update: These people are awesome and truly have a heart for animals. They spayed and vaccinated her FREE of charge before we picked her up. You don't know how Happy that made me. Soooo sorry for original bad rating. Can't go wrong with these folks. Thank you HSBV, staff and vets.

What a wonderfully clean and well mantained humane society. All the doggies looked super well taken care of. Today we stopped by to donate some of our veterinarian formulated CBD dog treats. Sadly we were unable to donate CBD dog treats to them.

Came in and visited some cats up for adoption, left that day and paid very little for an amazing pet! Also they offered me a 4lb bag of the food she was on for $1!! Love these people, keep it up!

I took my dog here for vaccine renewal and an annual checkup. I was very satisfied with the vet and vet technician's attentiveness to my dog.

My dog got a leptospirosis shot, which made her very sick. This shot required a follow up injection, which the vet advised against given the severity of my dog's reaction. I took off one star because I feel like the leptospirosis incident could have been avoided if more emphasis was put on the fact that small dogs react more adversely to the leptospirosis shot than other, larger breeds.

This clinic may be slightly over precautious, but they have the best intentions in mind.

I have pretty mixed feelings about this place. My husband and I read that neutering a cat was a pretty straightforward process and that the cat doesn't really need all the bells and whistles during the process that normal vets use (which I still think is true). So we signed our little kitten up to be neutered here and it wasn't as simple as it should have been. Some of the drugs used were bad and my cat (along with the other 4 or so cats who were getting fixed at the time) had overheating and hyperactivity. They handled the situation well and they threw away the bad batch of drugs, but it makes me wonder whether another vet would have used the same supplier? At any rate, they sent my kitten home that night because he was mostly okay, but some of the other kittens had stronger reactions and they had to be hospitalized. So fast forward about a week. We thought we were off the hook. No more complications, right? Not so. Then my cat got sick. Really sick. He kept throwing up again and again. We ended up going to a number of vets to try to get him help and the first vet we went to gave him subcutaneous fluids and then tried to do an xray. We said no on that front because we didn't think it was a blockage. I told the vet I didn't think it was a blockage because my cat doesn't eat random things and we have a pretty clean house. Furthermore, I had reason to believe that he had a compromised immune system while he was at the humane society the previous week, leading me to believe it was some kind of standard illness. The vet said that if he didn't get better in a couple days, we should bring him back in and do a whole bunch of xrays because it could be a blockage. Lo and behold, in a couple days, he wasn't better, so I called to ask about getting more fluids (because it is very bad for a cat to be dehydrated so we wanted to alleviate the symptoms of this sickness as much as possible) and this other vet wouldn't do it, declaring that it was "contradiagnostic". That made me pretty mad because if it helps my cat feel better while we wait this thing out a little longer, I didn't care if it was contradiagnostic. But this vet, and many others, tried to up sell the xrays. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, xrays cost over 1000 dollars and that's just for diagnosis. If it comes out negative, you've wasted 1000 dollars that waiting a couple more days would have saved you and if it comes out positive it costs thousands more. So we went back to the humane society for more fluids because we weren't ready to escalate to using xrays yet. The vets at the humane society were very helpful and not at all fear mongering like most vets are. They listened to us and the vet we were working with ended up physically feeling around my cat's gut to see if she could detect a blockage that way. When there were no obvious painpoints, she didn't rule out the possibility of a blockage, but she suggested it was unlikely and she gave us more fluids. A day or so later, Tesla got better (ergo, not a blockage). All that's to say that the humane society may have been the source of our kitten's problem, making me dislike them, but they also, undoubtedly, had a better problem resolution approach than the alternatives. I have mixed feelings about recommending them, but I will probably continue to use them as I think the medicine issue was a supplier problem and I don't think it is likely to be reproduced.

The best place to adopt a pet and have continued care and training all in one campus. The staff is so kind and friendly that not only do your pets feel good about visiting for a check up, but you do as well. I cannot recommend HSBV enough.

HSBV has redone the kitty rooms again!!!! They were already heads above most of the other shelters in town, but now they are even more fun to look at, visit cats in, and find a forever friend.
They are always clean, and for the number of cats in the rooms, generally never smell like litter boxes. Better than even my house! :-)

I don't know about the dog side, as I'm a cat person.

Most importantly, though, the staff want to match you with a friend, and work hard to make sure you find a good match, meet enough animals, and that you have a good time while there.

We had wanted to adopt a dog, so I called the moment they opened to put a hold.. They put me on hold and while I waited the dog was adopted.
We decided to try again a month later. This time when I called, there was no answer after several attempts. I left work early, and immediately called them again to put a hold on her. They let the phones keep ringing, and ringing. After about 20 minutes it puts you to an answering machine. I left a message saying I intended to drive out there, and to call me back. I had them on the line (on hold) the whole time I was driving there, and as soon as I get there I'm told she was literally just adopted. Ok fine. First come, first served.. I get it. They told e they were so busy they turned the ringers off... are you kidding me????

We looked at other dogs, but they refused to let us visit with any large breed dogs because we have a small child. we are large breed people, hoping to rescue, but they are making a good ole fashioned puppy mill look like a better option, especially with their RIDICULOUS pricing for some of the animals. We are NEVER going back to BHS.

My boyfriend and I just recently (about 2 weeks ago) adopted our Nya girl, a lab/malamute mix. This was my first time ever adopting an animal and it was a wonderful experience. The shelter was clean and cozy, and the staff were friendly, helpful and informed. The adoption process did take awhile but I was fine with that. I saw it as they didn't just hand over a dog to anyone. Overall, it was a wonderful day watching 3 other dogs get adopted that same afternoon! We couldn't be more thankful to the Humane Society of Boulder for allowing us to give Nya her forever home. Will definitely be adopting again from them in the future when the time is right.

We adopted a kitten from here a few weeks ago. The staff were helpful and let us look for as long as we needed. The kitten was and is in good health. The "condos" for the cats were spacious and they are kept very clean. Two thumbs up!

I adopted a tabby kitten here in 1998. They let me interview a number of kittens first. I then selected my kitten. He turned into the most loving cat. I still miss him. I would adopt here again in the future.

They have a vet tech that is so uneducated she thinks ring worm is the end of the world.
I feel so bad for any pet parent that gets stuck with her. She completely freaks out, even after knowing the fuzz baby is on meds. Please educated people.

Rescuing an animal is a HUGE decision. A time consuming in approaching pet care. 2 and 1/2 star rating. Critical in making the right choice. Having had two pet adoption experiences with the Boulder location, the second has resulted in a really fun little dog that overcame street stray odds, now growing up very friendly, happy and spoiled! Hard to believe it's 5 yrs already. Not all pet adoptions are successful. Typical overcrowding lacking educated pet care associates who give a hoot about what animals needs what. Pets in need of walks, crowded kitty area, unclean, or not sanitary. Our family pet experienced an abrupt kennel door tail slam when placed back inside his kennel. Still upsetting to me at how careless the staff member was. Recall a higher adoption fee from original post when he was placed on hold. Are they looking to SCAM the potential adopter. I visit here randomly and pets are roughly handled observed running outside of kennels. Selfish, rude pet associates, can imagine the veterinarian staff the same.

This place is amazing! I adopted my dream dog today and had plenty to choose from. The staff is a little young but they do care and seem to enjoy their jobs. The facility was clean and all of the animals were healthy. I've adopted before and these guys couldn't have made it any easier. It was a hassle free, enjoyable experience. Just walk in the door and these guys will help your next pet find you

This is one of the best Humane Society centers I've been to. Plenty of friendly staff and volunteers to ask questions. Animals are well cared for and they have welcoming clean bonding areas to visit with prospective new family members. We got a kitten after one our senior cats passed away.

Recently had to put my dog Riley to sleep. It was an awful and difficult decision, but it was time. I felt the way they handled our case was not humane at all. She was clearly at that stage. They pushed back and told us we could surrender her so they could have a vet check her out. Umm no, we are not surrendering our dying dog. The worker was argumentative. Thankfully the vet on duty said it was ok to put her to sleep without examining her based on her symptoms and age. However, they would not allow us to accompany her to be put to sleep, which was frustrating - I raised this dog, she was scared to death of the situation, and the thought of her being alone with strangers was awful - and I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pay $100 extra just to go to the clinic next door.

They are amazing! I have now adopted a guinea pig and a dog from here. I adopted Brody during COVID and they were very cautious with maintaining distance and cleaniness. They also were very informative and knowledgeable in regards to his luxating patella. I highly recommend anyone to adopt an animal from them!

We had to give up our family dog. I put alot of money time and love into her. They took her in processed her quickly and found a home for her in a couple weeks. Very grateful they helped our fury baby find a home. We miss her but we are glad someone was able to love her just as much or more.

I adopted two kittens from here a few months ago. Told they were given a clean bill of health and ready to go. Nope. Sickest pets I've ever had... thousands of vet Bills later I've learned they have/had toxoplasmosis, giardia and other issues. Not sure I would trust their "veterinary care" at the very least when using this facility.

These places can be so sad but, the staff and management here do all they can to make this place as happy as possible for humans and animals. Clean kennels, attended to animals, ample parking, nice adoption rooms. In the end, we found our new companion animal.
