The Doctors and Techs (as well as the front desk!) at the Boulder Humane Society are fabulous! Dr Gutierrez saved my dog's life when she recognized what was happening and suggested she see a specialist. Love how caring they are and I have been taking my dog there for 14 years. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

Beautiful, clean facility. I've adopted 2 of my pets from Boulder Humane Society. I also volunteer here. The staff is knowledgeable, the facility is kept very well maintained. The cat sanctuaries are beautifully designed. They also have a training center, veterinarian and a little shop for food, treats, toys, leashes, etc. all conveniently located in the same building.

Very good animal shelter! I've adopted two dogs from here, and they are doing a great job. They care for the animals very well, and clearly care a lot. Their animal training classes and programs are also very good. Overall, I support them a lot, as they are very committed to being a good animal shelter.

Awesome veterinary office, the only reason they got 3 stars instead of 5 is because they didn t warn me that my new dog (5-8 month old puppy at the time) was severely ill. He vomited blood and had bloody diarrhea for 2 weeks, cried constantly, and had sever behavioral issues (couldn t walk on leash, had sever separation anxiety, was scared of trash cans and couldn t walk up stairs without being scared, and chewed on walls and cords if I let him out of sight). Claimed he was house trained, he wasn t. He was also underweight and had and ear infection. He s now a happy healthy boy, I just wish they d been honest instead of just trying to get him out of their hair.
They also labeled him a German Shepard, I got him DNA tested and he s less than 9% German Shepard

I absolutely love being a member here. I've taken dogs and cats there to get fixed, or getting shots for them. They also have a 'sliding scale' to help you, help your foot paws babies!

We adopted our cat from here a couple of weeks ago and it was a very nice experience. While it did take a while for us to finalize everything even though there was hardly anyone in the humane society, everyone was friendly and helpful and I highly recommend this shelter if you are looking to add a family member!

My family adopted an 8-year-old dog from the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.

My wife and I were apprehensive about adopting an older dog due to the fact that we have small children at home and would not want to create a dangerous situation for our kids. Before adopting her we asked any and all questions that we could think of. We asked about her breed, her temperament, her health, her eating habits. She is clearly part pit bull. I understand that there is a somewhat undeserved negative stigma surrounding that breed, so I was understanding why they lied to me about that. She also had a weight problem because they had been over-feeding her, and they lied about that for some reason. The lies that they told about her temperament are the most unnerving and the main reason for the one star. When we asked about her temperament - specifically identifying our 2-year-old human child as our reason for concern - they told us she was perfectly fine and had never had a biting incident. Unfortunately, I believe this to be untrue. After bringing her home she bit my wife twice, drawing blood the second time. After speaking the the Humane Society that initially rescued her in Oklahoma, I learned that she had been abused very badly. With a heavy heart I brought her back. My wife called the Humane Society of Boulder to ask if they needed us to bring in the dog's heart worm pills and to ask how she was doing. It turns out they are putting her up for adoption with no indication of her previous biting incidents. If they are going to lie about her biting my wife, and they have lied about everything else, it is reasonable to conclude that they lied to us about her biting.

Knowing that the Humane Society of Boulder has a history of telling lies about dogs' up for adoption, specifically to cover up aggression, I would not be willing to trust this place again. They placed me and my family in a potentially dangerous situation and my wife ended up getting bit. Had I known about the dog's history I would not have adopted her. I could have avoided the heartbreak of returning her and my wife would not have been bit.

All of that aside, the customer service was absolutely terrible and the staff was rude.

On a positive note, the dog had heart worms when we adopted her and the Humane Society provided free treatment.

Truly the best experience. Kind staff that takes great care of the animals, and when you adopt, they give you access to great services, like a list of vets who will service your cat and food to start. I was a first time adopter and I could not be happier.

I've had nothing but good experiences w the vet clinic until today. Gutierrez seemed knowledgeable, however it was hard to decipher through her condescending tone after the first thing she said when entering our room was shaming us about our prong collar, given to us by our very reputable dog trainer. We understand that our dog is more difficult than most due to fear aggression, and comply with using their muzzle on him without question. She forced us out of the room to give our dog his shots and then drudgingly told us how horrible he was after we had left, before suggesting multiple times that we stay and talk to their trainer, and giving us sedatives for future visits (keep in mind that we've been going to this clinic since he was a puppy and no one has had this big of a problem with him at all, maybe because they let me stay with him so he's less scared!!!!) like i said, i've had nothing but good experiences up until now, i just didn't appreciate being stereotyped as a bad pet owner because i'm a college kid who adopted a fearful dog!

The most professional shelter I have been to. Very organized. Their website updates daily and always reflects the current state of their population. The personel is caring and communicative. The fascilities clean. Their intake process is thorough. It goes even smoother if you pre fill their online pdf questioneer. There is a $65 fee for surrendering a pet (which cuts down on frivolous drop offs). They will not turn away an animal and they will not kill an animal unless it is in an unberable state of suffering.

Please be cautious when adopting from HSBV. We found our sweet kitten here last year. We were told he had a clean bill of health when we adopted him, and were so excited to bring him home. Fast forward a week, he's lethargic and not responding to us. We had to rush him to the ER at midnight and have him checked out. The vet pulled out balls of black gunk from both of his ears and told us that he had the worst case of ear mites she'd ever seen, and that he probably hadn't been able to hear anything for months. We had to clean his ears twice a day for 2 months to fully get rid of the infection. On top of that, he also had giardia and was underweight, and we had to give him 2 rounds of pills to get rid of that. So almost $1000 later, we finally had a healthy kitten. He still doesn't meow correctly though; we think he never really learned how because of his ear infections.

Luckily, I was reimbursed my adoption fee from the shelter after this whole thing. But to think this is how they treat their animals, and let them suffer with these health conditions is appalling. I'm so happy we adopted him when we did after reading reviews of how many animals were euthanized there. Our baby definitely would have been put down because of his many illnesses.

Over the years I've adopted 3 family members from HSBV and fostered at least a 100 kittens. I'm always impressed by how dedicated the leadership, associates and volunteers are to the mission. Animals are treated so well here but eventually end up in a better place - someone's home! We're lucky to have this organization serving Boulder County.

My daughter adopted a kitten (and paid a lot of money to do so). She did not know (and was not told) that the cat had physical and mental problems when she got him. His back legs are longer than his front legs, so he walks funny, he has some kind of nuerological disorder, too. The worts part is, HE URINATES EVERYWHERE and has a hard time remembering to use his box. He is 2 years old now and is currently peeing in her bed every night. He has ruined her mattress, her area rugs, her suitcase, her clothes. He pees in the bathtub. Name a place and he pees there. The Humane Society certainy should have done a better evaluation of this cat before they foisted him off on an unsuspecting 22 year old. What is she supposed to do with a cat that she loves who pees everywhere??

Every person we talked to at the Boulder Humane society was very friendly, very knowledgeable and made the adoption process easy. The system they have for placing holds on animals over the phone takes the pressure off the entire process. Easily the best experience we have had in the pet selection process.

Welcomed from the moment I walked in. Really nice staff, working hard and still smiling. Our pet is wonderful, they got us off to a great start! This is our second of 3 adoptions, and they set us up for success!

I thought of taking her back and getting a different one... Now I see the incredible beauty of my best friend. She holds me, and we ve loved each other for 9 years. I d give more stars if I could!

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is one of the best shelters I have ever been to. You don't need to know much about the adoption process and there are plenty of dogs to choose from. The wait time is not outrageous and the people there are very nice. We got a first dog here and she is the best thing that has ever happened to us.

The Boulder humane society not only provides excellent adoption services, but their vet clinic is fantastic as well. They are knowledgeable, accommodating, provide a range of options, and really care about the animals they treat. I ve been taking my dogs and cat there for over 15 years, and they have always been wonderful.

I got my female bunny Lopsy spayed here a few months ago and had no issues! She healed great and they even called to check up on her a few days later! I plan on bringing my other bunny to get neutered soon!

The best animal shelter we have visited in the Boulder/Denver area!!! They really take care of their animals in the best possible way. We recently adopted a dog there. They had a lot of choice. We didn't have to wait too long to have a chance to meet a dog in a separate space. The trainers taking care of them are really nice and helpful. Every time we went back there with our dog to find a second dog, he was very excited so you can guess that they took good care of him. Other positive points: they give you a free visit to a vet (they give you a long list of vets to pick from), also they give a very good kind of leash, they vaccinate the dogs for rabbies, they offer a free bag of dog food and we only paid $99 for the adoption.
We had such a great experience with them and with the dog we adopted there that we are currently looking to adopt another dog from them.
Highly recommended place!!!

We love the Boulder Humane Society. Both of our pups were adopted from here, with great experiences each time. We now take them to the veterinarians here for their annual checkups and treat them to new toys from the gift shop after their vet visits.

The Doggie Dash is a lot of fun each year and a great way to support the humane society.

The staff at Humane Society of Boulder definitely put their fur babies first! Their process of adoption is absolutely the best!

Excellent experience and quality, friendly staff. ...

Excellent experience and quality, friendly staff. We took our puppy to a puppy socialization class at the Humane Society in Boulder February 2017. The class was a wonderful experience for our dog, and the staff was knowledgeable and attentive to the dogs. They initially monitor the pups and then separated the dogs into two groups (the more aggressive dogs and the nicer dogs). I was relieved that they did this, as our dog isn't aggressive. They did a good job of explaining things and monitoring the dogs for their own safety. Highly recommended that you bring your puppy to this class.

I take my cats to the vet clinic at HSBV and have always been happy with the care and service they offer. The vets were accurate in their diagnoses, and gave me great advice about switching cat foods. My cats have thrived and are healthier after following their advice. The fees are very reasonable.

I also frequent the thrift store and am amazed at the high quality of the items they sell. Frequently they receive brand new items, but they still sell them at half of regular retail prices.

It makes me feel good that whatever money I spend at the vet clinic or thrift store goes towards helping homeless animals.

They wouldnt even hold a kitten for my mom through the weekend. She had picked one out from our friends who foster for the boulder humane society and fell in love with it. They wouldnt even take a donation to hold him longer and now she is heartbroken because she came back from a family reunion 3 days after he was brought to the humane society and missed it by one day. The website said he was being held but obviously they let him go. Absolutely awful. And the vets are rude to people when they mention their cats go outdoors, I think its awful to keep them indoors when they desire to go out.

I always love coming here, I take both of my dogs here. They did a pretty serious surgery on my husky and he is as healthy as ever. I live in Denver and drive all the way up here, I honestly will not go anywhere else.

A great shelter with great people who work there. Very caring even though they are very busy. I never had the feeling that they didn't care about their animals and the people coming in to see them. A very well-run place.
