Clean environment, caring people, well cared-for animals. Need I say more?
A great NO KILL shelter. Lots of community education and outreach. They rescue pets from states with kill shelters. In making a donation, I found out that donations should be given directly to the Nashua Humane Society. If you send money in response to the SPCA TV ads none of that goes to the local shelter.
Had a wonderful experience visiting the shelter a few times and eventually adopting my pup through them! A lot of smiling faces and everyone was friendly, helpful and just wanted what's best for the dogs. A+
Staff very rude, need to have better manners especially the manager.
Great place sensitive to needs of animal. they helped me put my cat away after 17 years. great dr made things happen in sensitive way.
They were very helpful and informative with process
Awesome place to go find a pet the people there are great and will help finding the right pet for you
If you cannot adopt a pet, at least go visit some animals and donate if you can.
Called because I was in need of food for my dog due to financial struggles and Heather the receptionist was very kind. I was able to get food the same day. I am so thankful for the help in my time of need.
Facility seems nice, several friendly customer service volunteers . Although several handlers were quite Snooty. completely turned us off. Went elsewhere.
Great place to adopt a pet. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I have adopted 2 pets.
Best Experience EVER!! We got our sweet 4-month old Katie (Black Lab Retriever Mix) last Saturday!
After visiting Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA, we almost gave up hope on adoption and thought about getting the puppy from a breeder. (yes, I wrote a review for them too) But Humane Society for Greater Nashua totally changed our shelter experience!
The volunteers are so friendly. When I called on Friday and asked about a puppy I saw online, they spent time describing the puppy to me and answered all the questions I had. They invited us to visit the dog on Saturday morning since they expected it would be a crowded day.
Sure enough, we were at the door 9:45am with other people waiting for them to open at 10am. When we went in, they showed us the area with all the dogs. the facility is nice and clean and all the dogs look so happy and energetic. We were shown the dog that we were interested in from the online picture. Well... I loved it but my husband and my son both picked our Katie (Kate at the shelter). So they showed us Katie and let us take her out for a walk on a wooded trail in the back of the facility. after we walked her, they led us into a big dog playing/running fenced area and let us see how energetic our Katie is, being a playful puppy. She just ran and ran and ran... and she loves all the volunteers there which meant something to us. I am sure they took good care of her while she was there.
My husband and my son were all set with her. But the volunteers were so nice to ask me if I wanted to see the puppy that I originally interested and they were willing to take her out and let us do the same thing with her as well. We did not take the offer since, at this point, we all fell in love with our sweet Katie and ready to bring her home with us.
Knowing we were first time dog owner, Several volunteers/employees spent time talking to us about training tips, puppy diet.... and shared their puppy experiences with us. We spend good 3-4 hours there before everyone said bye to Katie and wished her good luck. They took the first family picture for us and asked us to share Katie's story with them and to let them know how she is doing...
They are just the most friendly people on earth!!
I can't expect more from a shelter. I am SO happy that we drove up to Nashua to get our puppy!! It was a bit further, but it was ALL WORTH IT!!
Thank you, Susan and everyone. We will take good care of Katie!!
Considering volunteering here. That speaks volumes. Adopt, dont shop!
The place is clean, and the people are super friendly. They are generally very knowledgeable about pets and the animals are very well treated there. The adoption prices are very reasonable and the process is painless. If you're looking for a great pet, at a reasonable price, that's a rescue, this is a great place to start. You even get discounts for your first vet visit.
Adopted my amazing cat Riggy from here eariler this year! He is healthy and just as lovely as he can be, thank you guys so much!
This place is an absolute joke. Got to pay a bail or bond and bail out your animals. Plus the staff are stuck up.
They have dogs and cats, many of who a re looking for forever homes.
Friendly people reasonable covid precautions cat found a forever home
We have gotten three beautiful cats from here. All of our cats love us! We really like this place and if we want to eventually get more cats (or even a dog) then we will definitely go here or look at other shelters in the area.
Wonderful helpful people even in covid times. Fast service and compassionate. We had an unexpected death of home cat. I was grateful to find affordable cremation service. We really didn't know what to do until we called the humane society
Staff was excellent and very friendly. Adopted a 1 year old dog. They gave us time together to get to know him. You could see the dog loved and had a lot of compassion for the girl handler that brought him outside. He is such a sweet dog. I would definitely recommend them and I would adopt again from the SPCA of Nashua.
Thank you for the wonderful addition to our family!
They are great and very helpful. l I have been looking for a cat. They gave me all the information and they keep the animals in great condition and living conditions And it always clean .They are the best I have been in .Thanks to them we have the perfect cat Art O
I took my cat here to be neutered and for what must be the lowest price around, they not only neutered him but gave him all vaccines and microchipped him for under $100. The staff is phenomenal as well, I'll be bringing my other cat shortly to be spayed in September!
Wonderful caring staff and volunteers! Their enthusiasm and dedication to the animals is impressive. I love all the activities for both fundraising and thanking their donors. The animals that wind up at the shelter are fortunate to have these folks on their side.
Looking for something to do??? Volunteer here the staff is amazing and helping the animals is life changing. Best feeling in the world. Don't have the time to volunteer?? Then go to the website and donate.
They turned my family down when we tried to get a rabbit I live on a farm and they said that the rabbit can't be outside , they also turned my uncle down when he tried to get a dog he lives on a 40 Acer farm. I had a horrible experience I will never go there again
Greated by a very friendly girl in the front area but then instantly felt unwelcome by staff inside the dog area. Although they knew nothing about me they said they didnt have any dogs I'd be interested in... when I said it seems like you have dogs to adopt they said they did but wouldnt be a good fit. I asked why. They replied with they are larger dogs. When they let me walk thru there were several dogs but I felt so uncomfortable I decided to leave and find a more open minded and accepting shelter.
Wow! My my how have animal shelters changed. The people that work in here think they're doing you a big favor. First of all they have condescending attitudes. The application process is analogous to getting top security clearance in the military. Then their prices are outrageous. It used to be you went in and you got a dog and you took him or her home and they became part of the family. This shelter ruins all that. Here's my advice to anyone looking for a dog. Go to a breeder and see the dog in it's birth home because you're going to pay one way or another and I'd rather pay a reputable breeder than a shelter that you know nothing of the dog and its history. It's a shame that shelters have come to this point where they charge outlandish prices and they treat people like CRIMINALS!!!
Shame Shame on this Shelter!!!
Three days after Christmas in 2015 I had to put my yorkie named Emma, who i had for 15 yrs , I had to put down and they were great!!
And not that it was about money but it was a lot cheaper than any Vet office.
The only problem i have, with all Humane Society's is that they tell u they want people to adopt their pets instead of buying them is that they charge just as much as breeders or stores that sell them.
I understand that they need to make money to take care of all the animals,, but come on, people can't afford the lump sum. One place told me that if I couldn't afford to buy a dog then I shouldn't get one!!!
Well the only reason I'm looking online is because when I first started looking for another Yorkie, I was scammed out of $800.00 so now I have very little money to put down for a puppy.
I believe a lot of people would adopt if everyone selling a dog, lowered their prices, but for most of them its all about how much money they can make, not the animals!!!!!
They never return phone calls I wanted to get some information on adoptions as well as second places to go to get a second opinion on illness spur my cat very unprofessional
This is an unusually clean and spacious shelter. Those familiar with the Lowell Humane Society and others can appreciate that as soon as they enter. It's about funding and support of course, so good for New Hampshire. It also has a less frenetic feel to it. We were there to check out the cats available for adoption. The cages there are particularly large for shelter cats, which is great, but it means that far fewer cats can be on the floor at any one time. Some of the benefit of this is that the staff is very familiar with the personalities and needs of each cat which helps for an adoption to be successful. On the downside, there are simply fewer cats to meet at any given time, though we were told there were more cats in back that they rotate through to make sure the cats all get exposed to potential adopters. On the whole, coming here is a pleasant experience, and one that seems beneficial to the animals.
Have gotten 2 of my pets from them and they both were/are sweethearts. Adoption process great. And staff very caring and friendly! Couldn't be better
They let a so called friend pick up my dog and now won't give it back.
They were very mindful in matching us with the pet that suited both us and the animal itself
The staff was excellent taking care of my kitten drawing his neutering program. They were very caring and professional. Thank you!
Adopted a year ago and we couldn t be happier. My kids love her. This is a great organization!
Got our 2nd cat child there... And felt so bad in there cause in a cage
You must sign a waiver of not holding them accountable if you get hurt while there. Pretty smelly of animal dung, at least on this visit. Nice individual rooms though to visit.
Staff was very pleasant. We love our puppy so much!!! That you!!
We adopted our cat from here and what a great day she has become!
Are you kidding me?? This place is awesome! Friendly helpful staff and they take wonderful care of the animals
Staff was pleasant facility was very clean animals well cared for very nice environment. I recommend visiting should you be looking for another family member.
My last two cats (over 18 years) have come from this shelter and they're the best. I cannot recommend the Nashua Humane Society enough. I plan to come back up here from Massachusetts for any of my future pet adoptions.
I love these guys. Always nice and friendly. Adopted our coonhound from them and he's been a great addition to our family.
I'm so sick of rude people i went to the nashua nh humane Society today aug 8 2020 to adopt a kitten or cat. The skinny older lady was rude and the shorter older lady was even worse. I felt very rushed and unwelcome. My son who was murdered received a plaque honoring his devotion to animals. He wanted to be a vet. My family donated to this company but never again. I'm VERY HURT
Took three phone calls and 2 visits to get the information I needed. Was referred to londonerry, got information from them in one email
Smelled of cat urine throughout the whole place, staff was extremely unhelpful.
Thank you so much for all of your help and dealing with me calling every day while waiting for Nova to be ready for adoption! We are absolutely in love with her!! So glad we came here. We will be back to visit!
Very strong cat urine odor, hey, stuff happens. When we expressed interest in a cat we were told we couldn't spend time with the cat unless you want to adopt him. Getting him in and out is stressful to cats. We are interested. The person More
Adopted a great dog for a reasonable price and the discount they offer on training is worth it. The trainer is just the best!
very nice people we adopted two senior dog's staff was very informative and more than helpful
The staff here is super helpful and friendly. Just adopted my first dog here and she's been so great.
We were told on a Sunday that a kitten they had wasn't adoptable but to call on Tuesday because we were told they were not open again until Tuesday at noon. We were also told that they could not hold any animal for anyone. When I called on Tuesday to find out about the kitten we were interested in, I found out they were open on Monday and the kitten was in the process of being adopted.
I found the most amazing kitty here and there are lots more. Not just the animals are great but also the people who work there. LOVE IT AND TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT
Great facility and animals seem well cared for however, the staff is unfriendly and unwelcoming. Very rude if your interested in an animal
The staff is great, however I wonder about the quality of the doctors. I adopted a brother/sister pair and the boy had obvious wobbliness in his rear legs. I thought it was due to the room we were in being slippery, but it ended up being Cerebellar Hypoplasia. It was SO obvious to me and the staff, but having been 15 years since I saw a new kitten play, I wasn't thinking anything major and the staff didn't make it seem like it matched any symptoms.
A few days later it became obvious when he was walking on carpet and he rarely lands on his feet. We kept him because he is AWESOME, it's a non-progressive diagnosis and will live a long, happy & drunk-walking life.
Love what they do but I wish the people working were more friendly and less grumpy.
Terrible experience. They were incredibly rude to me and my family. They seemed like they didn t want anything to do with us. We were interested in adopting a dog and we checked on him consistently. We went to the shelter every week to show our interest in him. We wrote letters to the director, and we were interested in this dog before he was up for adoption. We didn t even get a call back saying anything from the shelter. I don t recommend going there. It s terrible service.
I went there yesterday and the dogs were cute and the workers are amazing and nice.
The guy who seemed to run the cat section spent the whole time talking us out of adopting any of the cats we were looking at. It was also concerning that when he walked in every cat ram and hid when they were perky, and perking before he made his presence. They should definitely screen the people that volunteer or work there.
They don't seem to know what they are doing. (HEY, THIS IS JUST A REVIEW- I DON'T WORK THERE)
Wonderful organization. Loving people and they take good care of the animals. I have adopted one of my dogs from them. Adopt don't shop
Started puppy training course for Zoey. First night orientation & then we get to bring the puppies. The instructor is very nice & knowledgeable.
I went there to buy a kitten and walked out with a dog. The pets are well taken care for a shelter! The staff knows there stuff and are very caring. I had a lot of questions and they answered them all. They truly do there best with what they have. It's a no kill shelter.
My puppy had never seen a vet before. We went here to get his Rabies shot to have him registered. He was very nervous until the vet and vet tech came into the room... They were phenomenal with him! I had asked for them to bring a muzzle in because I was afraid he may bite when they gave him his shot. They did bring one in, bit told me that it was probably better to try without it, so he didn't associate the muzzle/fear with the Vet's office. I agreed once they told me that. I honestly hadn't thought about it that way. I'm glad I listened to them too, because my Puppy literally didn't even notice them giving him the shot! The Vet was playing and examining him from the front and the Vet tech went behind him and gave him the shot. It was awesome! They were extremely gentle and kind to my puppy. They gave me nothing but respect and suggestions for my Pup! The pricing is phenomenal! I am on a very tight budget and I was happy to see the low prices for what they offer. They are limited on what they can do here, but there's a pretty decent list of what they can do. Also, they only have this clinic open once a week (Wednesdays when I went). You also have to call in advance to make an appointment and it could take a few weeks or so... I'm extremely grateful for this clinic, even with the restrictions. I don't have a lot of money and my Doggo means the world to me, so having a place to bring him to get immunizations and check ups, is definitely helpful! Thank you Nashua Humane Society!!!
Best chicken tenders and mudslides in New England! I would give it 5 stars, but the wait is always long.
Went there for food and litter for my cat Timmy. Everyone there is kind and friendly.
I've really enjoyed all my experiences with the Nashua Humane Society. My family has been adopting/fostering with them for probably about 15 years and every experience has been a wonderful one! Most recently my husband and I adopted a 13 year old Bengal rescue named Simba (Renamed Lasagna :) ) And we just love him to pieces! He is an amazing, super cuddly cat! Very vocal as the breed is known for! He is the perfect addition to our family! I recommend the humane society to anyone I know looking for a pet.
We went for our appointment of wich we where early she said we were late no one else was there yet they couldn't give our pets thier shots ended up poo saying a late fee to register the pets with the city.
We will never go there again for anything.
I'M A NASHUA NATIVE AND AM 57.
MY FAMILY HAS ADOPTED DOG'S FROM SHELTERS WHILE I WAS GROWING UP. WE ARE DOG PEOPLE. [2 FROM THIS SHELTER.]
SEEMS SHELTERS ARE MORE LIKE A PET STORE TODAY WITH THEIR PRICES. AND YES I GET IT, COST ARE UP WITH EVERYTHING.
$425.00 TO "ADOPT" A PUPPY?
AND IF THAT ISN'T BAD ENOUGH, ESPECIALLY FOR THAT FAMILY THAT DOESN'T HAVE IT, THE PEOPLE THAT WORK AT THESE PLACES ACT LIKE NY CITY DETECTIVES WHEN JUDGING THE PERSON TRYING 2 FIND THAT RIGHT PET THEY WANT TO ADD TO THE FAMILY. AND I GET THAT ALSO, YOU HAVE 2 SCREEN PEOPLE 2 MAKE A OPINION AS 2 IF THE PET AND THE ADOPTION IS GOING TO WORK FOR THE BETTERMENT OF BOTH.
HOWEVER AT THIS SHELTER THAT PROCESS IS CARRIED OUT BY SOME VERY ELITIST THINKING PEOPLE.
HEY FOLKS WERE TRYING 2 ADOPT A CAT OR DOG OR WHAT HAVE YOU.
I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD HAVE 2 BE A INTERROGATION.
I HAVE MONEY ENOUGH 2 GO BUY A DOG ANY WHERE BUT FROM GROWING UP WE ADOPTED OUR DOGS BECAUSE THAT WAS THE RIGHT THING 2 DO AND I STILL BELIEVE IN DOING IT THAT WAY.
I FEEL BAD THAT IT'S COME 2 THIS FOR A NEW GENERATION OF KIDS THAT WANT THAT SPECIAL FRIEND...
SOME OF THESE PEOPLE THAT WORK/VOLUNTEER AT THESE SHELTERS ARE ECCENTRICS!!!
HEY THAT'S JUST MY OPINION BUT IF THEM CATS AND DOGS COULD TALK THEY'D PROBABLY SAY THE SAME THING!!!
"WOOF WOOF, MEOW!!! "
Beautiful place for animals to be adopted. It's great having the Donation shed available every day, anytime!
