Hula Hut Review

Hawaiian fajitas were awesome! Chips were fresh & crispy served with spicy dip. Of course, the margarita hit the spot in this heat, even if pretty light on the alcohol (I should not have been able to walk but was perfectly fine which makes me think they were chintzy with the tequila!)

Good food, wonderful atmosphere on the lake and very attentive staff! Menu is elective mix of Tex-Mex and Tex-seafood.

Great little bar down on the river. Strong drinks and a good view makes it a good time.

Awesome food, fun environment, a lot of people (at least on a Saturday night)

The food was nice. It's a place to enjoy with friends. On the lake so it's a different experience. Nice view. The staff was friendly. Surprisingly they don't self add the tip for more than 6 people. So don't forget to add the tip

Great experience lakeside deck or lakeside indoor seating with a great mellow vibe and very tasty tropical drinks and more.

Go for the lake view, stay for big drinks and yummy cheesy Tex Mex. A unique Austin experience. Creative dishes. The Baja burrito / enchilada thingy is sinfully good!

The costumer service is terrible! To be honest I was so disgusted and appalled by Ashley's screaming that I quickly gathered my family, cancelled our order and left. When I saw the two families outside of the restaurant I asked what happened. The manager Ashley made a party of 5 and another party of 8 wait for over 2 hours to be seated before telling them they were being ridiculous for asking her how much longer their table would take. She then screamed in front of the entire restaurant that the two parties (who were not together by the way) should get out. Horrible dining experience and I felt so bad for those two groups of people. No one should be yelled at the way Ashley yelled at those people. If this is the type of hostile environment The Hula Hut condones I will Never reccomend this establishment to viewers on my blog nor to any affiliated author's or critics. No customer should have to witness a manager, in any establishment act this way. Very unacceptable for such an established venue.

Food is not as good as I remember, but the view is great.

Service was prompt and engaging, establishment was clean, food was bland and lacked flavor.

I haven't been to Hula Hut in about ten years, and found it heartbreaking to return to a place where the quality of food had drastically declined.
For anyone who thinks salt is too spicy, you'll probably be happy with what the kitchen serves.

This place is for the atmosphere, not the food or service.

Used to come here ALL the time when I was studying at UT Austin. Super lovely spot on the water, great atmosphere, and I love that Mozart's is right next door for coffee & dessert. :-) Staff were always so nice, food and margaritas are great!

I'm not sure why this place even has 4.2 stars. The service is first of all awful. No one seems to work together. Our table of 5 got one entree delivered, 5 minutes later 3 of our entrees were delivered. The last entree was delivered 10 More

Good Mexican food. Fresh flour tortillas. Great drinks on the lake. I really enjoy their salsa.

Has really gone down hill. Its been just over a year since my last visit here and just went for lunch today.
The food was very ho-hum, the menus were falling apart, the restrooms were out of soap and stalls that didnt lock properly.

I dont think we'll be back again unless we hear changes have been made.

We love Hula Hut! Super reasonable pricing and a cool vibe. It can get pretty crowded on a nice day, or, for happy hour. I strongly recommend the fried ice cream- it is battered in cinnamon toast crunch, and is to die for.

If you want to have the longest wait ever to sit and eat, and then the longest wait ever to get served, then Hula Hut is the place. We went there on a Friday and where told the wait would be an hour and a half. We decided to wait outside by the bar. As we walked thru the restaurant we noticed 4 open tables (kind of crazy) with the wait but oh well. They only serve appetizers at the outside bar but according to them no entrees can be served at the outside bar. After waiting for about 45 minutes we decided to phone in our order and eat it outside. It took only 10 minutes to get our food. I was impressed. We began to eat our food when the manager came out and said we had to leave. We were eating there food on their property and they asked us to go because we ordered our food to go. Ridiculous that the best seat on their property is not available to dine. Who was the genius who came up with this plan. I cannot imagine that you can go to any restaurant and eat at the bar but the one restaurant that has a great view does not allow you to eat outside on the tables around the bar. They would rather you wait 1 1/2 hours to sit and then another 1/2 hour to get served. Can you imagine the stupidity of the people making decisions there. i know we bucked th system but to get kicked out of their restaurant while we ate their food on their property is ridiculous. Their food is good and the view is awesome but their MANAGEMENT IS HORRIBLE!! If wasting 3 hours is your kind of fun for OK food then head to Hula Hut otherwise go to LA CASITA on Anderson Lane for some out of this world Mexican Food.

Food is always good and you can't beat the view. Great casual place to take out of town visitors, celebrate a special occasion or just a casual dinner with family or friends. Great place for large groups. Service has always been good and friendly. Kids have always been treated well and accommodated.

Always been a fan of this place, but they really need to clean up the restrooms. They are absolutely disgusting, and if they treat the restrooms that way I would imagine the kitchen isn't far off. Ick!!

Nothing on the menu GF. Unless you get a burger with no bun and a side of fruit. Everything has Gluten including chips, rice etc. wait staff is clueless unfortunately when the food came for the second time they still got it wrong it took a very long time to get the food also. Almost everything is cross contaminated. even if it was gluten free. I would not suggest going to this place if you are gluten free especially if you have a allergy. The waiter got both of the orders wrong not the chefs.

Me , my husband and friends were at Hula hot Austin last weakened(6/15/19)orders took forever to get ready, the waitress whose name is Sylvia got me a smelly dirty and wrinkled napkin finally the total was as she said $68 but after that we waited for her to bring the bill but she disappeared we left the restaurant with no bill later I found out when I checked my card that she charged me $84.6 . I was very disappointed will never respect and being there again !!!

Strong drinks and not great food. People only go here for the atmosphere and view. Don't expect much.

Love the water front location. Boat slips are available on lake.Burgers and Mexican. Beer not too expensive. Hula Hut has not changed much in the past 20 years! I ordered th grilled chicken sandwich.

Service was good, food was mediocre. I used to go here many years ago and had fond memories. Not sure if the memories were hazy from margaritas but was not too impressed with the food. nice atmosphere on the lake

Really enjoyed this place. Laid back and causal, most food items involve a tropical type theme but not all. Overall was a great experience.

Definitely a tourist spot, I enjoy it as well, mostly for the ambiance. The entree portions are really big, so don't fill up on beer and free chips and salsa like I usually do.

Very unique place that has some good vieews even though it was at night. Sit outside if you have the chance bc the atmosphere is great. Quiet place to chat with no loud music or anything to distract your conversations with your friends. Be careful when ordering as some of the hot and spicy food is really hot and spicy. It was well worth it.

Ordered waited and order finally arrived with Grubhub delivery however Hula hut failed to include tortillas plastic ware and napkins. Food was great however I can only imagine how good my meal would of been with everything needed to enjoy. We called Hula hut but was told they re not in contact with Grubhub or drivers.

Authentic Mexican food. The taste was spot on. The location next to the river is a nice touch if you opt to sit outside. The parking can be a little difficult. But worth the wait in my opinion.

Classic hangout spot by the lake with a decent view. Excellent fusion offerings and drinks make this the quintessential happy hour hangout.

Nice place facing the lake, good service, tasty and clean food.

The service was so bad we didn't even want to (or get to) try it. Our party called in ahead and were told it was ok to bring the dog one of us had. We get there, they say no dogs unless it's a service dog. We tell them that one of them told us otherwise. Too bad, they say. Nevermind we drove a long way to get here.

A cool location doesn't excuse poor customer interaction. So many restaurant staffs in places like this seem to think it does...

And let's not forget, they sure aren't keeping the place clean. Maybe they hope a big tide will do that?

One of the few restaurants on the water for Lake Austin. It's touristy, but the Fajitas are pretty good (I recommend the Hawaiian BBQ flavor). Chips and salsa are also good also if you just want to snack and have some drinks at the bar. Come at night to see the lights on the dam or watch the sunset over westlake hills.

Just a pleasant experience with the frozen margaritas and food overlooking the water. The waitstaff is helpful and courteous with no pretentious hangups.

the best mix of mexican and pacific rim influences, the fajitas are great, fresh flour tortillas hand made by a very motherly woman in th e front of the restaurant. this is the best restaurant on lake austin, the others in this row don't ever have waits, and there is a reason why, great food, low prices and a friendly staff.

Way over crowded, out of everything, had to clean my own table and seat myself. Food compared to taco cabana.

Don't come on the weekends too packed for poor quality food. We didn't even receive any chips even after asking. Server forgot my drink and it was not friendly. For the poor quality and crappy service so yourself a favor and go elsewhere
