One of the best outdoor activities place for kids and also grownups. Lots of animals and many interactive events. Kids get to see animals, touch some of them, watch them get feeding, study fossils, and ride some rides. Parking is usually an issue during weekend though. The zoo membership is a great deal for people living in the area and can come to the zoo 4 or 5 times a year

We love coming to the Houston Zoo! If you live in the area just totally worth season passes, coming in the evening or coming in the morning you have completely different experiences. Lots of active animals on our visit today! We got to see the tiger swim!

We had fun at the zoo. All exhibits are nice and animals are kept properly. We couldn't see the bears cause their cage/ exhibit was getting renovated. My kids had fun on carousel too. The only bad thing was the weather, it was too hot due to which the animals were in shade too.

Awesome experience. Free parking. Got there about 1pm on Thursday. All of the busses loaded with grammar school children were leaving. Excellent. Nothing more than bratty children ruining your good time. We had the place to ourselves! Only $5 of you have a lone star SNAP card. Great time!

This was a fun place, though I would of enjoyed a more interactive experience but that's just me. Our family had a good time and my son enjoyed looking at all the new animals he had never seen before. Overall it was good.

After doing some research on things to do in Houston, the zoo seemed like a great idea. It was defiantly worth it. The park surrounding the zoo is really cool as well. This zoo is probably the best zoo besides the San Diego zoo.

The Houston Zoo is always friendly and a great time for the family. There is much to see and do. The water park is definitely a favorite and a wonderful addition in the late years. Very educational, you can feed fish, the giraffes, restaurants to eat at. It is an awesome time waiting to happen!

For it being a Sunday, it was semi-crowded, but also calm and peaceful, had a lot of fun. Brought some family from out of town to the Zoo and it did not fail in leaving a good impression, we will come back plus I like that we can bring our own picnic

Great place to enjoy with your family. I personally enjoy coming here during the fall time because the weather is just plain beautiful. So many animals to see!!! My daughter enjoyed feeding the giraffes and my husband and I just loved seeing all the sights this zoo had to offer. Children s zoo is great for the kids to enjoy themselves and get tired out. I had a really fun time. Thank you Houston zoo !!!!

We had a great trip to the Houston Zoo! It was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Exhibits are well thought out and the animals seemed very healthy. Price was fair. There are also restrooms throughout the zoo that were very clean. They also have food and drinks but we brought our own water bottles.

Son had a school field trip. 2 hours barely saw much of the zoo. Make sure you have most of the day to spend here. There's plenty to see and do. Check the schedule to see special feedings and events where you can learn more and ask questions. The season pass is very much worth it if you live in the Houston area. If you go and purchase a basic ticket and decide u want the pass. Your ticket purchase goes toward it. Will be going back soon!

Great facility, really big, clean and entertaining.Animals seem well taken care of (but who knows) It can be affordable if you plan ahead and bring your own lunch and spend the whole day here. But if not,it s still worth it.Not terribly overpriced. We always have fun here and there s always something new going on.

My boyfriend and I visit this zoo several times throughout the year and we love it. However, the prices of tickets are outrageous, as well as the price of food - they love to gouge you for every cent. If you re a parent, I highly recommend going with annual passes. Or even if you visit more than 2x annually. Also, with the recent renovations - there are tons of exhibits closed off, so you re not really getting your money s worth.

I love all the animals here! They seems to have safe enclosures but still enough room to run around and that's what I look for in an ideal zoo! Food and drinks are a bit pricey so I recommend eating before hand but its a fun place to go

I can definitely say that I like going to this Zoo now with my family. There were years back when I did not likr the Xoo because all the animals looked very thin and sad. I can honestly say that these last few years they have definitely "stepped up their game." The renovations they are constantly doing are Amazing and the Food trucks they brought in are Amazing as well. The staff at the register of the BBQ food truck was very slow and seemed like they hated their job. Had it not been for that the Houston Zoo would have gotten 5 stars.

Awesome place, very clean, different areas for the kids to play and have fun. There are overhangs with fans everywhere. You can bring your own food. Just a really nice time with the family.

Wonderful layout of the Zoo! The only bad thing is most indoor exhibits open at 10AM. The lot for Zoo also doesnt open until 30 minutes before the Zoo opens. I had a wonderful time going alone!

This is a great place to take the kids and family. The membership is a must if you feel that you will visit more than once during a year. Prices are a bit steep like most places, but it's an awesome place to visit.

Never gave the zoo much thought until I had my daughter. She loves the sea lions (wants to swim with them), loves the aquarium, and the big cats. She would probably enjoy a whole lot more but she likes being zipped around the zoo on her stroller or hanging out with her cousins in the wagon. She's all about socializing then taking in most of the exhibits.
*We've been the last three years and unfortunately there has always been a part of the zoo under construction. I did not take a star away because of this because seeing the finished product and what they're working towards is going to make the Houston zoo an even greater experience for everyone.

It's a pretty nice zoo, probably the second nicest that I've been to. I've been to several zoos. They have a great elephant area and the sea lion show is a ton of fun.they also walk the cougar and do a talk and you can ask a lot of questions.

Love the Houston Zoo. A lot of people don't think it's Healthy for the Animals to be kept in cages. That maybe true for some Zoo's , but not Houston's. They have made great improvements in the last 5 year's or so. Love the Elephants.

Just me and my husband and we are seniors. We had a great time , not only are the animals great, but the zoo grounds are beautiful. In the children's area they had a lot of teaching displays. Very interesting information. The only problem was a small ledge in the concrete , back in the African area. The ledge was not visible , I do not have good balance. I tripped , but didn't fall completely. That should be addressed. Otherwise great day at the Houston Zoo.

Good animal viewing access, neat clean facility, available staff, nice shady grounds with many air conditioned areas to keep cool. The zoo grounds are small and organized so you are not exhausted walking. Down side - not cheap.

It was very cool for the kids and adults but they only have one zebra at the moment. It was very hard to find him because he's with the giraffes. All in all a great experience looking at the animals.

I have a 6 y/o boy that loves going to the zoo. Last year we went at least 3 or 4 times. Also for the zoo lights. He always has fun and he also got to feed the giraffe's last year. So we decided to get the membership. You can bring your own stroller, or wagon. After the zoo we usually have a picnic next door at the park. Walking distance. They also have bike rentals right outside.

Visited the zoo on December 10, 2018, Monday. The zoo has a good assortment of animals, is clean, has a lot of snacks and food available, and a lovely pond in the entrance. The parking lot is free, external, therefore not covered. I recommend feeding lettuce to the giraffes (twice a day) and the gorillas. The gorillas inside the "aquarium" are playful, and sit close to the glass, so one can get a very close look at them.

Went for the zoo lights, it was good show though there are better free shows in other cities that aren't nearly as crowded. There were long lines getting in to park our car, to enter the zoo, and to take pictures at different spots.

This place is AMAZING, first time in like 5 years since i ve been here and I loved it. The animals are amazing and cool, none looked harmed or feeling bad, other than a squished-looking jellyfish laying on it s floor. The kids around me looked like they were having a blast, my family did, too. Took lots of pictures. Bad things are that the parking is kinda bad, gets full very quickly, and you d have to park way farther, about 2 miles farther my family had to park. Lines to the restrooms are long and the people at the cafes are a little bit slow, but food is good, chicken is ok. Worst thing was that some of the animals that were originally there were gone, as in the giraffes, maned wolves, and the bears were gone, and as far as I saw, there was only one meerkat and one cheetah in their domes. But other than that, it was great!

On a pretty weekend day, parking is only viable before 10:30am. Otherwise expect a lot of circling; I would probably park somewhere else and take the light rail.

Clean and well staffed, I enjoy the investments that have gone into improving the zoo.

Houston zoo is amazing, lots of greenery, you won't feel the temperature even in the hottest of the summers. This place is well maintained with great variety of animals both indoor and outdoor. Great cafe inside if you like to eat outside.

After I don't know how many years of not going to a zoo I went for the first time to see the famous zoo lights .

It was a disappointment!! It's not worth it. You're better off just going to River Oaks or even Austin's Trail of lights .

Not many lights and it's a joke. Don't go.

I don't like zoos as a matter a fact. The idea of removing an animal from its natural habitat and holding it captive for "educational" purposes is not cool!!

I love it! I would call in advance to make sure all the areas will be open to explore just to be safe! There's is a lot to see and learn about and multiple animals you are able to feed even. There's multiple stands with drinks and snacks as well as a few restaurants but if you would rather then feel free to bring your own ice chest with drinks and snacks so you can continue to explore without stopping! They also have wagon rentals for kids which of course is a big plus!
