Came here for afternoon tea in Victoria after comparing different places and other people s reviews. They said the iconic Empress Hotel s afternoon tea was overpriced and highly overrated. Definitely come to Hotel Grand Pacific for a unique Asian-influenced alternative. First of all, the staff is wonderful, starting from the hotel concierge Murray who was so helpful and friendly in giving us good suggestions on our day trip, to the wonderful back-of-house kitchen brigade who made fresh to order our 3-tiered accoutrements, to our most amazing server, Timothy, who was so knowledgeable about teas and the menu and kind/accommodating- his service was impeccable and just took the experience to that whole other level. The teas and food themselves- probably the best presentation I ve ever seen, and best flavor profiles with the subtle Asian fusion influences (I ve had afternoon tea in London and at the Drake in Chicago, at Pendray here in Victoria as well, and several other places) -but here at Pacific restaurant- it has been the best overall experience of afternoon tea I ve had so far.

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed! Amazing service great people fantastic rooms and really really great food. Hotel is located right next to the Parliament building the marina and really very short distance walking to downtown Victoria. Hotel's staff attention to detail is really great, rooms have that great feeling of home away from home.

I travel a lot and it has been a very long time since I stayed in a room with a bed this awful. I woke in a lot of pain, related to sleeping on a hard and unforgiving mattress. I was supplied with a foam topper the next day, which improved the comfort marginally. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! No amount of foam can make up for a stiff, unyielding bed under it. I suspect these mattresses were chosen because their stiffness makes them last longer, but the sacrifice of comfort will cost them clients. I will never stay there again.
When I first walked into the room it smelled of old cigarette smoke, as happens when smoke gets into the paint and the carpets. No shampoo gets it out.
The room I was given was on the lowest floor, in an alley with an apartment building next door, so was dark and lacking in privacy. As a government employee, I was traveling at a govt rate, but this is Victoria and the greatest volume of travelers are government people throughout the year. This was my first and last time at this hotel.
Finally, when I checked out in the early morning, I made a mistake and left behind some clothes and shoes in the closet. Rather than the hotel phoning my cell to let me know (as happens at most 5star hotels), it was left for me to remember later in the day and contact them myself. By that time, I had left Victoria and boarded the ferry. There was lots of time for me to go back and get my stuff, had they simply phoned me about it. I therefore had to have it sent to me. The UPS expedited service promised overnight delivery, but my parcel wasn't delivered for 5 full days after I called, despite paying for Express.
There were two good features. All the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the parking spaces were wide enough so that the chance of a car door hitting yours was low.

The hotel was awesome, the view was fantastic and the staff were very professional. The only downside was that we had to pay 7 dollars for a dental floss which usually should be given for free.

Nice rooms , friendly staff , unfortunately the shower didn't drain so that took away from the experience , nothing like being out on your feet all day, to come back to your room and stand in dirty shower water

Excellent service at all touch points, whether lobby, concierge or restaurant/lounge. Rooms with high ceilings are beautiful, rooms with lower ceilings can feel cramped. Expensive food service. Good free wifi.

I was very disappointed with the way we were treated this time around. I understand that with COVID 19 people have to be more careful but I didn t feel very welcomed. We arrived and were out of our car unloading our luggage and a worker came out without even a simple Hi welcome greeting. We arrived on our room floor, came out of the elevator and again no greeting by a worker. It was more like avoidance. My family and I were all wearing masks too out of consideration for others. We just came from Tofino and the hotel workers there were so obliging opening the doors, greeting every second they saw us. Don t think I will ever come and stay here again.

We are all taking chances workers and travellers. But we would still like to be treated as loyal customers who are still paying a lot to receive the service we deserve.

Stayed in this hotel for two nights, the location ...

Stayed in this hotel for two nights, the location was great. However, the room and service at reception was not that great. I pre-booked and even pre-paid the whole amount for the whole room at least three weeks ahead, so I was expecting a good room with good "residential view". Instead, the view was pretty bad. I was on the 5th floor, over looking the roof top of another building. Sure, I understand I didn't pay for big bucks for better view, but by pre-paid the whole room three weeks ahead of time you would think they put an effort into giving you a proper view. The "Residential view" means NO VIEW at all, so when you are booking, just keep that in mind.

I went downstairs and asked them if they can give me a better room with better view, unfortunately it's all SOLD OUT. I don't feel like they tried at all. I was quite disappointed.

Tooth brush and slippers you need to go to the reception to ask for it.
The lounge in the hotel was pretty good, food and service was good.
Vending machine was on a different floor, old school vending machine, take coins only.

Location is good, walking distance to many places. However, because of the experience is pre-booking/pre-paying that much ahead of time, and still get NO VIEW at all, I wouldn't recommend this place. There's other hotels in the area.

This place is just a hop skip and a jump from the Victoria Clipper dock. We walked there after clearing customs.

We were greeted by a man in a neat black hat at the front door before we checked into the hotel. Our rooms weren't ready so we set upon downtown to grab something to eat. Before lunch was over our room was ready hours early.

The hotel and rooms are very clean and have a classy upscale feeling. We had room service once and ate at the restaurant for another meal. Both times the service was fast and the food was tasty.

We tried out the pool, hot tub, steam room, and sauna. As expected families were using the pool and hot tub, but the kids were well-behaved and overall we had a pleasant experience.

This was my first time to Victoria. I think next I will be staying at the Hotel Grand Pacific once again.

The place aptly has 'grand' in its name. The hotel is conviniently located right next to the ferry terminal and has all nice amenities that one could ask for including a gym, spa, sauna and a swimming pool. The interiors are nicely done and have a royal feel to them. Our group stayed booked the double queen beds room. It took them longer than anticipated to get the room ready for check-in but the staff was curtious enough to provide complimentary locker room services to put away our luggage while we utilized that time sight seeing and trying out the victorian high tea experience.

Good looking hotel. Clean and friendly. Really slow elevators. The reason this hotel here's a low rating is because of the noise. The walls are paper thin and the sealing creeks to the movement of ants above you. I recommend you look else where if you are a light sleeper or expect peace when you get back to your room.

So many great stays here with the family. Great location on the Harbour. Walking distance to everything. Starbucks across the drive. Love the little gift shop for jewelry, ties, purses etc. Always something unique. Restaurants are nothing special in my opinion. Better options near by. Just my opinion. Will be a place we return to from time to time. Good pool and fitness center too.

Doing a great job with Covid protocols.

A great hotel . The staff was very professional, the hotel was decorated classically, and was quiet. The lone exception was the bed. Hard as a rock. I understand replacing beds in a hotel is a large endeavor but I really hope it is on the to do list. I would probably return ( not sure about my wife).

Store is kind of a scam. I was excited to see genuine leather bags for sale and even more so when i saw the incredible sales. 50% off already marked down bags? Wow! But after spending $250 on a bag originally priced at $1200 i went home and examined it again. In my excitement I neglected to see the crooked hardware and inside pockets made of thin material which was quickly losing thread. The tags didn t seem genuine to the brand and the inside tag seemed to be just a sticker. I am unsure of the leather authenticity but regardless not worth the price originally marked. This was on me for making a purchase but don t be fooled.

From the time we arrived until we left, the hotel service was very good. The hotel staff was very welcoming and gave us a lot of help, making our stay very easy. We stayed in a two-room suite overlooking the harbor and the scenery was beautiful. The bed was comfortable and the decor was good. The only problem is that watching TV is a bit of a hassle. We have to move the furniture a little bit to be comfortable watching TV. In addition, the entire room is great. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant. On the night of arrival, we were really tired, but we had to eat something. We called the room service and the food was delivered in a few minutes, and that was what we wanted. All in all, this is a very beautiful hotel with a Victorian feel and an excellent staff service.

We held a symposium with over 40 people in their Central meeting room and it was very spacious. Their curry lunch buffet was delicious and the service was amazing. The rooms were very comfortable to stay in and they also have a very nice gym and pool.

We went to Victoria to celebrate our 35th wedding ...

We went to Victoria to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. My husband surprised me with this mini vacation 2 days before ( Nov. 21st. ) He wanted to make our time there very special, as Victoria is where we spent our honeymoon. Although we didn't use many of the facilities @ the hotel everything was wonderful. We booked a couple's massage, the hubby's first time. It was amazing. We wished we had enough time to take in the pool, hot tub, & sauna,(especially after the massage ) Our hotel room was awesome, from the view, to the layout, to the cleanliness, a totally relaxing trip. The only negative thing I could say is the breakfast we had in your restaurant upon our check out. Considering the price was higher than we expected we ordered anyway. We ordered a simple bacon, eggs, hash browns & toast. I was NOT impressed with the hash browns. With the price ($16.00 ea.) for the meal & ( $4.00 ea ) for the coffee I was very disappointed. If I could make a recommendation I think if your chef switched out the deep fried hash browns for a simple skillet style HB or even better Shredded Hash browns I'm not sure if there has been any complaints in that regard but I think customers would enjoy their breakfast so much more.

First, the good: it's a nice hotel with a good-size suite with two queen beds and the beds were comfortable. Nice location with great views of Victoria harbor if you get a room in the front, and a wonderful view of the Parliament Building lit up at night if you get that end of the hotel, which I strongly recommend. Next, the bad: what is the single highest priority feature of a hotel? A good night of sleep. Major fail here. I booked the reservation weeks in advance and thought I was told I would be on the fifth floor (out of ten, I believe). Turned out we were put on the third floor and the second floor was booked with TWO weddings our first night in Victoria and BOTH events were playing concert-volume music until well past midnight. Our room was thumping with bass, we could hear the songs being played, and wedding guests were yelling above the music on the outdoor balcony of the ballroom until the event ended. I complained twice and was told both times that the hotel manager would have the volume turned down but that didn't happen. My daughter was distraught, I was livid. The hotel manager gave us two vouchers for the hotel breakfast buffet and to add insult to injury the hotel buffet just plain sucks. And here is the kicker, the final straw and reason for two stars: the morning after the weddings I asked if we could get moved to a similar room on a higher floor in order to avoid any more noisy events during our stay. After ten minutes or so I got a call back confirming we could move to the sixth floor. We were about to head out for several hours and the hotel offered to have our things moved while we were gone. We accepted and packed our belongings. Upon returning around 3pm we visited the front desk for our new room keys. The, upon entering our new room, we immediately saw men's shoes that did not belong to me. Peeking in a bit further, we say two pieces of luggage that were most definitely not ours. Worried that we might have been given keys to a room that was occupied, we hurried out and back down to the front desk. Turned out that the hotel had moved the wrong room! So our belongings had never been touched and instead some other unlucky guests had all of their belongings packed for them and moved to another room in the hotel. To make things worse, the bellhop and front desk staff were quietly giggling about this mistake. My daughter and I were not amused.

We loved Victoria and definitely want to return, but will stay at the Empress or elsewhere and not at a hotel with luxury prices but poor customer care and highly questionable quality control of sensitive hotel operations. I expect to be forever disappointed that the Grand Pacific did not refund our room night for the ridiculously noisy experience we had - what a major mistake in customer service and risk to reputation!
