It is very nice and has a privileged location in the bay of Sesimbra
The framing of this hotel could not be better. On the cliffs of a mountain range and facing the bay of Sesimbra. The rooms are comfortable and with the indispensable for a pleasant stay. Very positive note for the sea view in the room and for the service. Breakfast to match the stars of the hotel.
The room I stayed in was expensive for the conditions it had
A Hotel full of personality, very different from others of recent construction where everything is cold and depersonalized.
We love the stay, even with the restrictions related to the epidemic situation.
Excellent cleanliness. In the West wing, on the eighth floor, where we stayed, the staff who took care of the rooms were unbeatable. All common spaces, and there are many because the Hotel is huge, were always spotless.
Despite being over 50 years old, there is no neglect with maintenance and all spaces are very pleasant, with a decoration that transports us to other times.
The location and view are fabulous, you can hear the sea in bed ...
The service is very professional and friendly.
It would be interesting if guests could be provided with information about the history of the hotel, namely about the decoration, which has works by great Portuguese artists that may go unnoticed. I highlight the panels of Querubim Lapa and the statue of Cutileiro. Numerous pieces of furniture and decoration are original, as is the case with the fantastic chairs in the cafeteria. This information was obtained through research on the Internet, so I think it would be interesting if it were made available by the hotel itself.
The room we occupied had a hairdryer, the air conditioning and the refrigerator worked perfectly.
It does not have a mini bar, or a laundry bag, but nothing serious.
It is an old and imposing construction, which means that it has many corners and some barriers for those with mobility problems, but I must say that I saw guests in a wheelchair, even in the pool.
In short, I loved it and will be back.
Attention, if you take younger children, don't forget your citizen cards ... I didn't take my son's and it was requested, something that had never happened to me.
Cockroaches in the toilet.
Indoor pool in addition to having cold water. It does not have a single chair or lounger for people to relax or feel a little.
You have to be watery or standing out of the water.
It is supposed to be a leisure pool. Soon the decision to not have a place to relax a little is not understood.
Note that the experimenters were on the street. But the guests are forbidden to even pick it up. IT'S WINTER. THE CHOICE OF THIS HOTEL WAS MADE BY HAVING INTERIOR POOL.
Turkish bath off.
Separate saunas for men and women. It is therefore not possible to be with a family or couple together.
Anyway.
A 3 star disguise of 4 stars.
As for the staff.
It smells of the oppressed. They are not working with relaxation. They are pressed.
Nice room with good heating and a balcony with an excellent landscape. Hygienic hotel with a beautiful outdoor space. Very good breakfast with a lot of diversity. Staff very professional and friendly. I recommend
Very nice hotel but not a single evening and the entrances at night leave something to be desired, the rest is average
To look at the sea, to dream the distance and the distance, as in the noble caravels !! I will always come back!
It was a disappointment except for the restaurant. I'll start by saying that it was almost everything out of service: sauna, jacuzzi and even the gym which had everything but was closed for ... I do not know myself nor some staff I asked. The staff were very friendly and the food was very good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the area.
The queue for breakfast was huge, I had a lot of time to eat, when a simple organization could change everything, they should opt for breakfast by appointment, it was avoidable the crowding of people in the corridors
In front of the sea beaches restaurants the dock built in terraces which makes the wheelchair difficult but has elevators
Good breakfast
And great cooks!
Bar with spectacular views and very good service!
Great outdoor garden for children!
Cons
Old hotel in need of urgent renovations.
tiny rooms.
indoor pool '' cooled ''
Sauna, out of service.
Vole walking in the garden
Pros
breakfast
well-arranged outdoor space
sea view
Hotel presisamos of remodeling and cleaning badly done
Dilapidated, outdoor cold pool, restaurant not at the top on the food
I loved it, super romantic, a magnificent view, very clean and taken care of. I will come back
Not suitable for parents with small children, too many stairs.
Nice surprise. Good location with fantastic views. Very good reception and all the staff very friendly. Highly recommend.
Super panorama! Beautiful beach, superb terrace. On the other hand, poorly soundproofed, year 80 atmosphere, no buffet restaurant, long table service and uncomfortable when they are men. Not great with little ones.
Excellent, friendliness, good location, nothing like waking up to the sound of the sea.
The view from the balcony is simply amazing, especially if the bay in the morning in the fog <3 This great view you also have the breakfast in the restaurant and the drink in the evening upstairs in the terrace. Unfortunately, there is also something to complain about - the rooms are unfortunately quite stale as far as the facilities are concerned. This touch can be found everywhere in the hotel, but everything is very clean. Can recommend it!
I've known him for many years. It maintains that climate of tranquility of other times.
Great dinner a la carte. I recommend the swordfish and lamb chops.
As a negative aspect ... the WC that serves the bar, and is intended for people with reduced mobility, whose access is made by an impromptu ramp that ends in a narrow space where a wheelchair does not fit unless the access door keep gaping .... ridiculous. Needing the attention of the Local Health Authority.
A classic! It is always good to return. Cleanliness and service 5 stars.
Perfect for summer vacation. Room could be more welcoming.
Nicely located big hotel, but very old and tired. Needs work. Not worth the charged nightly rate.
The hotel has a great location, it is only worth having a poor quality of very old rooms and very small bathrooms. The pool has no conditions for people to swim at will, it has a minimum height of 1.70.
Very expensive for the conditions offered by the hotel
Stopped in time
Large hotel, professional staff. But the decoration stopped in 198 ...., needing remodelings, changing the windows of the rooms for better soundproofing, dark corridors, dark and worn bedroom furniture.
Good breakfast, varied and with many tables available. Nice restaurant.
We had a very large room with a seating area and balcony with great view, only drawback was that it was below the restaurant and the scraping of chairs on the tiled floor above was disturbing , also it was next to the bar which had cheesy cabaret on the piano till late. This was the 8th floor. The hotel was one of the first in the town and is showing its age although still very good standard
Lovely gardens, pool, etc.attentive staff. 10 minute walk to town. High up on cliffs which gives great views.
For 4 * hotel leaves much to be desired. It needs renovations for being aged, the indoor pool does not even allow chairs / loungers, satellite tv is practically non existent, sauna malfunctioning. Breakfast is good but they take out the food in a hurry at 10.10 !!
Sea views, location, access to the beach, good restaurants nearby.
hotel well situated, and with estreo simpamente friendly. However in need of refurbishment, especially in furniture, not the antiquity of the furniture, which could be funny, but because they are old and untreated.
Small rooms with wooden windows and doors that let in the cold and the light. Minibar off and nothing. Side table by the window, literally falling.
Poor quality / price for a 4 ****. I will not repeat for sure, nor recommend it.
Old hotel, very poorly maintained, poor interior accessibility, labyrinthine, an experience not recommended.
They gave us a claustrophobic room on the second floor, with no view, we had to complain to get another one, just as claustrophobic but at least with better views.
The extra "bed" was a 60cm mattress lying on the floor, we told her to take it off that the girl would sleep with us, at least that way we had some space in the room
It does not deserve the 4 stars at all, it would have them when it was inaugurated in Franco's time.
Any bad opinion falls short with what you will find here.
The only thing that is saved a bit is the area of the outdoor pool, what comes out in the photos ....
Unfortunately Mr. Carlos (reception) is very unfriendly. We have seen the balcony here for many years and we were shocked when we were told that external customers are not accepted. What a pity that a hotel like this continues to dive into an endless well.
Very clean hotel and room, I needed to "refresh" the image of the woods.
Location, decoration and architecture of the building. Friendliness of staff. Quality of meals and general functioning.
The only good thing about the hotel are the views and the location, the rest is all fatal, the hotel has stairs for everything, the rooms (at least those on the lower floors) are a disaster, the whole lower part is totally abandoned and the food I do not even want to remember, we hired full board because they told us that the dining room was buffet and nothing, it was a menu (4 ingredients of salad (lettuce, tomato, onion and carrot), a soup or cream, 1 first, 1 second with 1 companion (rice, potatoes), 3 pies, peach in syrup and fruit salad from a pot), the buffet according to them was because you had to get up to serve your food. The photos belong to room 201 (without drawers, the closet unusable since it has no depth, the fatal wifi, in short everything a 4 stars).
Very good service, well situated very friendly staff, all good
I was here for work.
Hotel with a certain age, but there is nothing due to the younger ones with the same qualification.
Liked it.
Good rooms facing the fabulous sea of Sesimbra.
Good breakfast.
I also had lunch and dinner and it was just fabulous.
To visit.
The view is very good the front desk at the reception very bad!
Overall service good. Need a clean face. Already have a few years. In terms of 5 * cleanliness, the restaurant food is not worth the money you pay.
It is a vintage hotel with a lot of decorative woods. The terrace of the bar is fabulous, beating the sun early in the morning .. I think it has the essentials to be excellent. In the end, what counts is not having a huge room or more variety at breakfast, in my opinion. The feeling of having managed to provide people with a different state of their day-to-day lives is achieved in this place.
A beautiful hotel. A little '60s in decor but pleasant. Excellent staff.
The hotel restaurant has no accessibility, no toilet adapted for the disabled. It's very sad.
Too weak for a 4 star hotel. Small rooms, small, old bathroom. The towels smelled like a very bad detergent. Did not like.
Needs urgent remodeling, hotel with decoration, furniture etc etc .. completely outdated, dimension and comfort of the ridiculous room for a 4 star.
Employees with little sympathy with obvious signs of tiredness.
Worth it for the location and views.
Very nice hotel, friendly welcome and service and delicious meals in a setting conducive to relaxation, swimming and sunshine!
Very nice staff, good breakfast. The pool and the gardens are great, and it is very nice to be by the pool looking at the ocean. The bar has a 60s look and an amazing view. Overall is was a great experience.
I've enjoyed my stay! Hotel full of nooks and crannies. Impeccable service / cleanliness. From the 6th floor the view of the sea / pool is magnificent, and falling asleep listening to the sea is wonderful. The only thing that bothered me is the limitation in the service derived from the pandemic, but which are rules that exist for the common good so I just have to applaud. Coming back for sure.
The rooms are very shabby. Attention a disaster. My cell phone charger, my daughter's pajamas and mine were stolen when they changed our room since they put us in the sun all day and at night irrigation water fell on the terrace ... they were not able to find our pajamas ... today I am waiting for you to call me to return them. One of them was a memory and had sentimental value.
Apart from all this the food of the hotel very bad, the rooms very cumbersome, the parking lot overflows the area to take a full walk of people for dinner and eat daily chaos ....
The hotel has a very nice and nice terrace on the 8th floor but they only give pizzas and sandwiches. The free buffet of the disgusting hotel.
Every time you want to go to the pool or anywhere you have to change the elevator twice ... imagine the waste of time ..
Finally mention the low category and education of the people you are surrounded both at breakfast and at the pool and anywhere in the hotel ...
Do not be fooled by the photos.
I will never return even if they give it to me.
Room (# 305) like a cave and extremely loud. In front of the balcony instead of a flower border bare earth with cigarette butts and building rubble parts. In front of it - on the slope - empty bottles and garbage. The request for another room was met with a shrug ("economy fare").
For 37 years, I have been elected to a holiday and a wedding celebration
The view and location is good .. the facilities are old and for the price, being a 4 star hotel, it should be better.
Spectacular view, breakfast with a lot of variety, in the Bar served an impeccable caipirinha!
A paradise in the middle of another "paradise". All that landscape is dream. Personnel of great kindness and sympathy. I have to go back.
We stayed at the Hotel do Mar for 10 days. We enjoyed it very much. It is a beautiful hotel that was built like a staircase on a mountain. Each of the rooms has a sea view and in the evening you can fall asleep to the sound of the sea. The rooms are quite large. The interior is quite old and rather dark. However, the room was always very clean. The mattresses, the cushions and the bathroom were in pristine condition.
The breakfast buffet is ok. Personally, I was missing a bit of variety or some vegetables - like tomatoes and cucumber slices. But that is bearable.
The pool floor is about in the middle of the hotel and you have a wonderful view of the sea.
There was free WiFi, towels and cushions by the pool, a parking lot in front of the hotel.
There is a bar in the house - the cocktails are quite expensive here and by German standards not particularly recommendable. The juices in Portugal are extremely sweet and unfortunately that was also reflected in the taste of the cocktails. But that's a matter of taste. ;) You can drink wine and beer very well here.
All in all a very nice and recommendable hotel.
Sesimbra itself is a picturesque fishing town right by the sea. A small port is not far from the hotel and is definitely worth a visit. Boat tours and other water activities are also offered there. This is not to be missed when you are there. At the reception, the tours are also booked directly with a very friendly local provider. We had a few extra requests and that wasn't a problem either, we were able to pay in advance directly at the hotel. The reception service was generally very good.
+Well priced, excellent location, nice pool, lots of sunbeds, very clean, good service, comfortable pillows and bed
-Not a child friendly hotel. Lack of mobility access is an issue. There are steps to the pool area, anddifferent elevators for various parts of the hotel..you still have to drag buggy down steps even after the elevator. Also there is no kettle provided in the room & none at reception, so to get hot water for babys bottle you have to go to the bar every night. The hotel is dated in decor but is very clean and priced accordingly
Bad experience! Very long check-in, most restaurant staff very unfriendly, no friendliness and attention. Weak breakfast, long lines to enter the restaurant, line for the breakfast buffet that if I had to ask for anything else I would have to start over in line again. There were two children at the table waiting for me to take breakfast, I took a tray that was there to get the dishes and they were extremely unpleasant with me for having a tray! It was service and not customers and even when saying that there were two children waiting, the friendliness and help were none. A very disorganized and not very functional restaurant. I stayed at a table facing the sun, I was dying while eating, the heat and the sun on my face was terrible. I do not recommend this hotel and will not be returning.
Quietly charming hotel in a great location. Great pool area.
Old, small and idiotic elevators in a confusing system. The stairs also a bad and silly scheme. Not at all handicap friendly. Stairs everywhere.
The food is basically varied - but tastes nothing.
Some of the small chefs in the restaurant have to be replaced- rude is a too nice description!
Great sea view, retro decor, grass and green all around. Nice bar
Fantastic location but very old facilities
Scary indoor pool for kids
We will not be back
A very cozy hotel. A very good attention. Perfect cleaning Spectacular views. The only uncomfortable things are the works in the streets with car access, which are under construction, but it is not a big inconvenience. I recommend it.
It's not worth the price. Weak accesses for wheelchairs and baby strollers.
Food nothing special
Old hotel
Excellent location, personalized and efficient service, cozy accommodation, well equipped and decorated, great view of the ocean, efficient daily cleaning, varied and good quality breakfast, efficient and attentive service and lunch or dinner with good selection.
Privileged place to watch the excellent fireworks of year end of the friendly village of Sesimbra. Simple rooms, beds could be better. Breakfast good and staff very friendly and helpfull.
Not at all what I was expecting, very different from what is presented on the website. Small, smelly rooms, bad service.
SORROWING THE 5 STARS MARGIN TO PROGRESS, GOOD ACCESSES IN BOTH ENTRIES GOOD WELCOME WORKS TO ENHANCE THE BEST SATISFACTION; RECOMMENDED EXCELLENCE TO YOUR LOCATION ..
The hotel needs a total reform in its rooms. The breakfast buffet is of low quality. The breakfast room is uncomfortable. Low value for money
53 00 for 10 minutes of phone between Portugal and France!
This is flight, this hotel takes its customers for pigeons.
Dated rooms but they make up for it with the views. If you are staying on the 5th floor, you have direct access to the pool and it is super comfortable. The breakfast with the covid theme leaves a lot to be desired, what was a buffet you have to request from the waiters and it becomes a continental breakfast. If I would go back but to the 5th floor!
