I showed up late, staff was kind enough to wait to check me in. Everything is clean, if a bit dated, though the rooms are outfitted with modern amenities as well. I would definitely stay here again.

Location is perfect as the basilique and a fair amount of museums is at an average of a 2km walk. Mont Royal is very near and there is a lot of different restaurants on every path you may take.

Some rooms are on the smaller side, European style, in this antique building. Limited parking, need to use local garages. No elevators! Improved breakfast options with coffee bar.
Excellent location for hiking Mt. Royal or touring downtown Montreal.

Great, reasonably priced hotel in downtown Montreal. Rooms are smaller with smaller bathrooms but it's very clean and a great place to rest your head. Very friendly staff and the cafe on the first floor was adorable!

Little jewel I hope a little hidden, so that it does not change too much. Short stay calm and relaxing. Nice place, nice, comfortable. Flawless bedding, cozy bed. I walk through the hotel chains, preferring this address by far. To redo.

The rooms are simple but lovely. The location is fabulous, an easy walk to downtown. The cafe serves a simple but good breakfast. Their coffee is to die for! Excellent barista. The staff is extremely helpful, and gave us good recommendations for nightspots to check out. Our one complaint was that they were having problems with the wifi while we were there.

Charming place a little retro. Collective space and warm welcome. Well kept rooms and very clean. The situation in Montreal is ideal, close to the subway, easily accessible by the airport shuttle, and not far from the university on foot or snowshoes.

If you want to experience downtown Montreal on a budget here is your chance. Minutes away from McGill, it's super French, super quaint, and just adorable. Our room had nice views, and super cute decor. The hosts were very friendly and helpful! It was a great introduction to the city. I would definately recommend!

It's a rainy and warm winter day but upon entering the cafe the day seems lighter. Three students quietly study at a table, occasionally breaking into conversation to explain the secrets of cellular structure. The staff are friendly while I place my order from the paper menu hanging beside the iPad register. The barista picks through a small box of wooden stamps to pick one for my punch card. This takes a few moments out of her now break time. She says she doesn't mind, she likes working here. The seating area is cozy, equipped with cushions and flanked by leafy plants. The music is soft and unobtrusive, no need to raise your voice above it. My espresso comes. It tastes like dark carmel and the sandwich is fresh and warm. The students have pack up and left for class now. I suspect they'll visit again. I suspect I will as well.

I think anyone that gives this place less than 5 stars wasn't looking at the Ambrose Hotel for what it truly is. This is a petite, independently owned hotel. It is in an old, quirky building but they have updated it quite nicely without taking away it's charm. The white walls and white bricks are to die for. I initially chose this place because it was close to where I needed to be, but I'll be coming back because of how great my experience was. Not only is it close to everything but it's close to the metro as well. I reserved a parking spot in their little back lot ahead of time based on other people's reviews. It was $20 and I can come and go as I please which is totally worth it as parking can be a hassle in Montreal. The staff was so nice, very accommodating, and able to answer all of my questions. The Wi-Fi was strong and so was the delicious coffee in the cafe downstairs. The avocado toast was delicious too. My bed was really comfortable and the room was clean and the perfect size for me. The entire hotel was very quiet and relaxing. A lot of people have complained about there not being an elevator in the building but I was on the third floor and didn't mind at all. I will be coming back.

FANASTIC ACCOMODATION IN VICTORIAN TOWNHOUSE! Impeccable service. Beautifully decorated lobby featuring white painted brick, an array of beautiful house plants, and colourful macrame wall hangs. Vintage furniture and well trained baristas. We stayed on the top floor so there were A LOT of stairs but our room was cozy, comfortable and quiet. We will definitely stay again when visiting Montreal.

My wife and I stayed here for our 3 day trip to montreal. Really nice rooms and the staff was really nice. Make sure to call them after booking for a parking spot behind the hotel since they are very limited. Will be coming back here for our future trips!

Would definitely recommend staying here. Close to downtown Montreal (and pretty much at the base of the mountain), incredibly helpful and very friendly staff, and offers lovely rooms with a Quebecois charm!

Despite showing up with registration issues, the front desk staff were incredibly patient and kind, which amplified the pleasant one-night stay that followed. The charm of the hotel, room, furniture and history made for a lovely experience. In the morning, enjoying a bagel with an americano in the cafe with the morning light and luscious plants was so relaxing despite staying in the city for quite sad reasons. Many thanks to the cafe and hotel staff for making this trip a good memory despite my personal circumstances. I'll be recommending this hotel to many people in the future.

Nice little hotel, located in a quiet street, a few minutes walk from the commercial center of Montreal.
Rooms clean and big enough for a city tour.
Breakfast simple, but well supplied.
Value for money very interesting for the neighborhood!

Had a great experience at Ambrose! The setting was very thoughtfully decorated, and the rooms were very comfortable -loved the high ceilings and how close it was to downtown. Lots of good parking places/spaces nearby as well for those driving. Food and coffee was beyond expectations and staff accommodated French and English speakers.

Stayed at the Ambrose hotel during the Canadian GP weekend, the staff here are very polite and the hotel is in a quiet location without being too far from the city. We really liked the style of the rooms and the breakfast and snacks that were free during our stay, it was also very well priced compared to other hotels.

The location is close to the base of Mont Royal and nestled beside downtown and McGill. It's easily within walking distance of various attractions if you want to explore Montreal. The room I was in was quaint and had a cosy feel to it, despite it's size I couldn't say I was missing anything. A croissant and coffee in the morning is a nice touch. The staff was always friendly, even when I locked myself out of my room. I would definitely recommend staying here.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL! BUGS AND RUDE EMPLOYEES!!!
When I got into my room, I first checked my mattress to make sure everything is fine. I saw 2 dead bugs on my mattress. The receptionist moved me to another room. Once I looked at the bad, I saw another dead bug on the bed cover!!!!!!! I checked out of the hotel and fount another hotel. I was supposed to stay for 2 nights but I checked out of my room before midnight. When I called them the day after to get my money back, they said I have to contact Expedia since I got my reservation through them. So, I said that's fine but I need an email or letter from the hotel that says I'm eligible for full refund. The manager said that ok, we will do so. When I went to the hotel to get the letter (less than 2 min after the phone call), they gave me a letter saying nothing about the refund at all and they said I refused to stay because there was DUST!!! On my bed. When I asked to talk to the manager, they said he is gone for the day and kept lying about him not answering his phone. So,I called Expedia while I was at the receipt insist desk and told him the story. The customer service guy called the hotel and the receptionist told him to refund me. Once she has no up the phone on the customer support, she was so pissed and said now that u r not our guest anymore, u HAVE TO LEAVE the hotel. I was still on the phone, waiting for the customer service to get back to me to confirm the refund. so, I said ok, I will when Expedia confirms the full refund and she said she will call the police on me to take me out of the hotel!!!! When the Expedia guy confirmed the refund, I had to stay there till the police comes cause she had my name in case she actually called the police. Waited for 15 min and no one showed up! I called the police and they said no such a complaint from this address has been filed, u r waiting there for nothing!!!!!!!!
CALLING COPS ON YOUR GUEST AFTER THE MANAGER PLAYS HIDE AND SEEK TO REFUSE ONLY $300 REFUND!!!!
WHAT A SHAME!!!!

Loved this hotel. Great value, great location for downtown, McGill, Concordia, etc. There is a great aesthetic throughout. My room was lovely - big and beautifully decorated. The cafe was great too and very convenient. The coffee was really nice and the food so-so. The only main gripe I have is that when I checked out I was told that if I had entered a discount code when booking online, I could have saved 12%. This should be applied automatically (it doesn't help me now that I'm leaving!). There was also some noise from construction next door but that is not the hotel's fault. Otherwise I can't fault this place.

Very cute, clean, and in a great location!
The rooms were very boutique-chic, comfortable beds, and delicious coffee and treats from the cafe downstairs. Highly recommend! Note: we didn t see an elevator but didn t have big bags, so we were fine on the steep stairs. Bonus points: very environmentally friendly!

Hotel itself is very beautiful and they make lovely coffee & breakfast downstairs. However our experience was very stressful and unpleasant straight from the beginning - we were told at the check in that we need to pay 100$ deposit and then we ll pay the hotel price at the check out. She subsequently charged us the whole price + deposit (520) without advising so in advance. When we told her she said she ll cancel it, we said to leave it but she cancelled it anyways. It took one day before these funds were released back to us and we had to pay the 100$ again on a different card. She never apologised for her error and let other colleague to deal with this mess. On the day of checking out we woke up to realising that reception tried taking 100$ again despite us already paying this + the room price even though we were told that this will be done when we re leaving. When we came downstairs we were accused by the receptionist that he though we already left??? He then said it s all system issues and we finally paid for the room however further 200$ is still pending as taken because they took this twice in an error and it might take 7 days to be released back to us. All this was dealt with very poorly and no one apologised at any point it showed any customer service skills, it made us feel very stressed and unwelcome and like we re some thieves who are trying to avoid paying. I will not be staying here again.

I stayed in a standard room which came with a private bathroom that included a large tub. Basic toiletries and a hair dryer are provided. No coffee maker in room but there is a cafe downstairs inside the hotel that opens at 7am. Very clean! Great price! Awesome location to walk to everything downtown. They even have parking if you try to reserve in advance. And if not, there is a parking garage a block away.

Everything about my experience at Hotel Ambrose was wonderful from the convenient location to the attentive staff. The hotel has character and is maintained really well, loved the atmosphere here. The staff make you feel at home and are very organised with check-in/check-out. My room was cozy and comfortable, I also enjoyed the lobby cafe, which is a great option for a quick bite and coffee. Highly recommend and will absolutely stay here again.

Very comfortable stay. Quirky hotel in a wonderful way. Friendly young eager to please staff went out of their way to be helpful. Economy room was as advertised small but had everything we needed and a very comfortable bed. Great location to many restaurants, Bell centre, nightlife & Old Montreal within walking distance. Great coffee and sweet or savory petite dejeuner offered for small additional fee. Highly recommend this hotel if steps are not an issue.
