Great fresh baked goods. Don't get there too late though, as they only bake a certain amount daily and most are gobbled up before noon!

What's not to like. It's my favorite coffee place in Sunriver. Maybe it's because they're local or they have amazing pastry. Maybe it's the delicious cakes and cupcakes. Who knows, but people are always friendly and the foods good.
If you have a special occasion this is the place for dessert. Go a few days a head of time so you can get what you want. They always have cool options, but sometimes they sell out of treats.
*I should say that I don't drink coffee, only tea. I have no idea how the coffee is, but the rest of my family seems to like it.
Previous owners did it right! Line out the door every time we were there. Then came baked donuts with the new owners....wrong! May be healthier, but I don t eat a donut for my health. Ruined a good thing! No lines though!
Drove from la pine for what the chamber of commerce book said was the best donuts ever but they were not they tasted like donuts from a box at the grocery store and quite pricey to over $ 15 for 5 donuts 30 miles round trip. !
Good coffee, big sandwiches & pastries! Delicious!:)
I'm with a group of 8 and we purchased Cream Cheese, Raspberry, and Regular Cinnamon rolls, Chocolate and Maple bars, and Cinnamon Twists. Everyone in the group commented how fresh, light, favorable, and just Plain Good. And the staff is very Helpful
and Friendly. Great Place and Most Highly Recommended.
I love croissants! I love them when they are made to absolute perfection. Ken's Bakery in Portland makes the most amazing croissants, here, not really that good. I bought several for all of us to have for my husband's birthday morning treat and while not terrible, they weren't Ken's great either. Their coffee however, was hot and delicious.
Big and tasty sandwiches and the raspberry strudel was delicious!
Very friendly and welcoming. Oatmeal was the only vegan option.
We've been enjoying the pastries and bfast burritos for the past few years, and they're all very tasty. But I ordered a cake for my daughter's graduation party in Sunriver, and it was the best tasting one we've had (choc w/choc frosting and raspberry filling). Thanks for making our celebration even better!
Great breakfast sandwich and coffee. Easy parking. Quick service and happy employees.
Good pastries in an otherwise standard coffee shop. I had a very good cherry strudel. Lots of noise out of the kitchen made it quite loud for a conversation. No bathroom.
Nasty! !!!! How about french bread with donut icing and freezer burnt cupcakes with the worst icing I have ever tasted. We tasted it and everyone spit it right out. Nothing like a garbage can toped with nasty expensive bakery items. Don't waste your money.. go to goodys for ice cream or the grocery store for little Debbie snacks.
The cinnamon rolls and pecan sweet rolls are AMAZING! Pro tip: stop in the evening before so you don't have to wait in line in the morning. Pop the rolls into the microwave for 15-20 seconds!
Service is incredibly slow. No one but my wife and I in the place. Three people working. Why did it take more than 15 minutes to make two breakfast sandwiches?
Amazing Lava breakfast sandwich!!! Great customer service!!!!!
Very convenient in the Sunriver village and nice to support a local spot. The pastries were large and fresh. We ordered breakfast sandwiches as well and they were warm and filling. They had all the coffee options hot and cold. We were in early so there was no wait at the counter.
Years ago they had the best donuts on earth (especially the maple pershing!), but new owners changed things up and now they're horrible. Too bad, so sad...
Very weak coffee. Had Americano with hazelnut and tasted like hot water with syrup in it
A tradition as part of our Sunriver vacations! Kids love the huge doughnuts and the coffee is great. It's rather loud and noisy inside - we always take our goodies out into the patio area to enjoy.
Went twice while in Sunriver... doughnuts are very tasty, and the maple-glazed cinnamon bun is decadence personified. My only complaint is the coffee is cold.
The cinnamon roll with maple frosting is to die for!
Very hit or miss, disappointing this time. Cinnamon roll was dry and stale, iced coffee drink was runny. Most of the baked goods were stacked in bulk trays, looked days old. Worst part was the slow inexperienced kids behind the counter trying to figure things out.
really good sandwiches and really friendly service. price are a little high and can take a while to get your order unless you're just getting a pre-made pastry and coffee.
Skip the drinks. Pastries are good but baking is inconsistent.
Very friendly staff and all 3 of agreed their blueberry scones were the best we ever had!
Sign said they opened at 6am on Saturday. They were not open. My kid and I waited til 7 and then they opened and the staff didnt seem to happy to be there. Donuts are good though
Tasty pastries and coffee, but when they get busy it can be a wait...
Ordered a breakfast burrito, an egg breakfast bagel sandwich, a toasted bagel with cream cheese, some donuts, and some coffee..
The burrito was gross.. Cheap frozen/thawed sausage in the middle, with a bunch of bacon bits inside, and very moist/wet/floppy like a rolled up crepe..
The bagel egg sandwich was horrible.. Dry/over toasted bagel with a weird brown "disc" in the middle that looked like burnt/dry egg. My kid said he wouldn't touch it, and after I looked at it, I told him I wouldn't either (and I usually am pretty strict about my kids eating stuff and not wasting).
The "simple" bagel and cream cheese was horrible, too. Cream cheese was "put it on yourself" in a tube, and the bagel was completely dry and over toasted.. Tasted like card board.
The donuts looked/tasted like bread with frosting on it.
The coffee was good.
Would never return to this place, unless I just needed coffee and nothing else was open.. Even then, it pains me to give them my money.
Not great. Arrived an hour and a half before closing and was informed that they had "dumped" the coffee. Period. Apparently dumping the coffee meant that they couldn't make any more for a paying customer. I like to support local businesses, but with this kind of customer consideration, I'd rather go to Starbucks.
The cinnamon twist and frosted cinnamon rolls ate the best.
We always enjoyed this place. We make a point of coming in here every time we are in Sun River. They have a nice assortment of donuts and pastries as well as sandwich and lunch items. You need to get there earlier in the day to get the best assortment of bakery items. I have also bought several different types of bread from them, all of which were delicious.
Delicious treats! I love the Dumplings! They also allowed me to bring all their extras to Bethlehem Inn once.
Got both a latte and hot chocolate. Both were very weak. Hot chocolate tasted like diluted Swiss Miss. Latte only had faint hint of coffee. Staff was nice and sitting outside was nice. Maybe the drinks are just hit-or-miss?
No hand sanitizer. Customer service was lacking; walked away after taking my payment. Not so much as a thank you.
Best pie I have ever eaten
Jeanne
Hot Lava is terrific! They made a beautiful, delicious, custom birthday cake at the last minute and totally saved the day. We will be back for sure!!!
Thought I'd try out a new coffee spot, got pretty sick of starbucks and their generic excuses for coffee. Walked through the door of this place to see customers on their chairs with faces of terror as the so called "owner" and her baristas were CHASING around THREE ROACHES, trying to scoop them up in coffee cups!!!! DISGUSTING. As I drew my vision to the baked goods I saw one roach having a field day IN THE CASE. AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN REPLACE THE PASTRIES AFTER
I guess they need all of the money they can get...
DONT GO HERE
Good coffee, lots of pastries, good service. Tucked away in the village so not very busy either.
Best gluten free scones ever! This place knows how to bake.
The breakfast sandwiches here are TOO GOOD! If you're in Sun River give this place a chance.
Good food including the dumplings. Terrible service. I'm assuming they don't train their employees. Ordered a sandwich, which was made wrong, waited another 20 minutes to find out they put our remake at the end of the list. Clearly incompetent.
Awesome coffee! Amazing staff! Great quiet spot for breakfast.
I have been coming to Sunriver every summer for the last 20 years. Our family would get donuts every morning from this bakery and it was a highlight of the trip every year.
This year we showed up and were horribly dissappointed. They have decided to be 'healthy' by baking all of the donuts. So basically you are getting a dinner roll with frosting on top.
No more spare tires, no apple fritters....bad business move!
The staff here was super friendly and spunky. The pecan roll was the best I've ever had!
This establishment is not practicing social distancing. No hand sanitizer anywhere, not cleaning their tables, mask were the only form of distancing and that was more just people following state mandated requirements. Also, music was so loud plus the equipment making coffee and smoothies added to speaking through mask they could not hear our order and it was wrong. They left out food off the order. Floors were trashed, trash over flowing into the floors. Overall a poor experience that is also not helping fight this pandemic. Many other location are doing a great job maintaining a clean healthy environment right now in this area, go to one of them.
Reading the reviews i think people might have an unrealistic expectation of a tourist town stop. They ve always been fast for me and great food to boot. Have gone here for 10+ years
They did a beautiful job on the anniversary cake I ordered!
Went here between jobs for breakfast. Apple fritters were doughy and dissapointing. The social distancing was a joke. The "lava" breakfast bagel was nearly tasteless, and there was barely a hint of salt let alone spice. The saving grace of this place from a 1 star review has to be their dumplings, which i greatly enjoyed. You get a better value and tasting breakfast at mcdonalds otherwise. I will probably not return unless some serious changes are made.
We have been coming here for years and typically the donuts and dumplings are delicious. Recently the chocolate bars have been not very chocolatey with inconsistent frosting. I asked if they could make one more chocolately and the first time they did it no problem. The second time the baker related the message that there was plenty of chocolate.... was I really asking too much for a little extra? It seemed like a small request to deny and totally rubbed me the wrong way. Not sure if we will continue patronage.
Hot Lava is a a great place to start your day while on vacay! The doughnuts especially the Bigfoot is always a hit with kids and their coffee is a fantastic start to your morning. The owner is almost always on site and she is quick to provide a local's guide to the area. Thanks to everyone at Hot Lava that makes all of us tourists day start the right way.
.Try the cream cheese dumplings... if you can get there before they run out. Breakfast burritos are also ridiculous!
No bathroom, limited selection, limited seating, so so sandwiches, but good pastries!
