Who would have thought, there is pretty decent bbq in CT. This place has some good meat from the brisket to the wings. Pretty okay.
Waitresses, water, brisket, and the BBQ sauce. Those were the only things I enjoyed. It was a nice try though. The ribs didn't have enough meat on them and I'd like a little more seasoning. Mac and cheese was obviously boxed which is fine. BBQ nachos were a nice idea but didn't do it for me. I'd rather make everything myself.
Great service though. Good job girls!!!
There isn't better BBQ anywhere in America. Seriously.
Horrible horrible horrible BBQ!!! I I ordered a half rack of ribs or shall I say a half rack of animal fat, Needless to say it was almost impossible to bite through because the meet was so tough...barbecue ribs should fall off the bone but not at hoodoo brown BBQ. I also ordered garlic Parmesan wings that took my breath away because they tasted like charcoal. Lastly I ordered the mac & cheese which in my opinion is very hard to get wrong but leave it hoodoo Brown BBQ, They Literally use Velveeta shells and to mask the flavor they dump red pepper flakes into it...unbelievable! I will say that I wasn t expecting much considering that most food in Connecticut is dismal at best however I was beyond disappointed!!
Very nice place. Service is great and the ribs are to die for. My new favorite place
The wait was very long but well worth it. A lot of food but we enjoyed ourselves at my brother
Top notch BBQ, easily the best in the area. Worth the wait (and there almost always is a wait).
Decent food, little pricey, manager was very accommodating however hostess needs MANNERS....SHE WAS VERY UNINVITING AND ACCOMMODATING...we had a party of 9 paying customers...we called ahead to make reservations were put on hold for several minutes and said we were all set...when we arrived SHE was very nasty and said they don't take reservations! We explained how we called and whoever answered the phone said they spoke with the manager and they would accommodate us when we arrived. She continued to be very nasty with us until we spoke to the manager and he went over and above to accommodate us and after an hour plus wait we got a table. Not sure if we would ever return but kudos to the manager for doing his job correctly. And Karma for the hostess.
Tried to get in 5 times before we did, so it was anticlimactic, good but not that good. And someone should teach them how to turn tables better. With a line out the the door by the time we were done, it took 20 minutes to get and pay my check.
Authentic Southern style BBQ. Reasonable prices. Good service. Rustic. Simple. Craft brews on tap. Skip the overly rich and sweet desserts.
Portions are too large... nice to share but too much for 1 person. Food is average
Great food, great people. I would definately go there again and highly recommend to anyone looking for BBQ
Terrific BBQ, the place gets crowded soon after opening, wear clothes you'll wash soon afterwards because you'll smell smokey from the BBQ pit.
Excellent start to finish, can't wait to come back.
Very good food. Excellent tap selections and a great bourbon and whiskey menu.
Tried to eat there yesterday, but couldn't park. Shockingly few parking spaces. If the management addresses this issue I'll try again.
Love the Caesar salad, ribs, Mac and cheese, so far everything I try is delicious!
Awesome food worth the drive from anywhere in Connecticut
The pork belly and jalapeno cheddar sausage were fantastic and the brisket melts in your mouth. Ive had bbq all over the country from Tennessee to Florida to Mississippi and this place is on the top of my list being in the northeast.
Had dinner with friends there Wednesday night. Food was awesome! Beef brisket was smoked to perfection, pork belly done the way it should be. We also ordered fried green tomatoes they were delicious. Service was good there was a large crowd, still we were seated and served quickly. We will be back soon!!
Food is delicious. Visited 4 times now. Food is always good. Brisket especially. Prices aren't cheap, but you won't leave hungry. The sandwiches are great and the best bang-for-the-buck.
Parking is a nightmare. Place is way too large for the 10-12 spots they have. Walking behind random stores and apartments to get from "parking in rear" to restaurant might be OK for a random spot in middle of nowhere, but for a place right on route 7 is silly.
Be prepared to wait at peak times. And make yourself known. The "hostess" has never been proactive.
Service is hit or miss. At peak times, staff will lose track of who is servicing your table.
Last visit: bartender was constantly wiping nose with a napkin, but pouring drinks without even an attempt to wash hands. Our table of 3 was seated for 10 minutes before we caught the attention of a waitress who then found the waiter who was assigned to our table.
Overall, I would give this place some more time to get their act together. The growing pains should be over by now, but they have plenty to work on. Given time, this place could be great.
One last note... You will smell like smoke for a long time after your visit. I wouldn't go here if you plans after.
Everything was fantastic! Food and drinks were perfect. Jar of BACON my new favorite! Patty was our server and was an absolute sweetheart. Staff was very attentive! We will definitely be back! Thank you Patty
Food was amazing and the staff was super helpful and kind. Service was very quick too. I got the HOGZILLA and it was honestly the best food I've had in a long time. The Front Porch Iced Tea (peach moonshine & peach sweet tea) was delicious. Mixed perfect. 10/10. Also, try the Carolina Gold sauce they have on the table, incredible.
Thank you so much for the most amazing Bloody Mary I've ever had! I traveled from New York to visit a friend and she took me here and it was the best thing she ever did for me! Everything from the meat to the sauces to the drinks were Perfection can't wait to come back!
Brisket was the set side did not like the macaroni and cheese chicken and pork belly were good
Delicious!!! Could have easily brought bad BBQ to Connecticut and made a mess of money...this is good stuff!!!!
Place is ok. They tend to run out of bbq items early in the eve. Bar staff could be improved. Craft beer selection is respectable.
Good food good service stools were a bit awkward for some
One of the best stops for BBQ in CT. I love going to Texas for vacation and this is as close as you will get to southern BBQ in CT
First of all, let's address some of the negative reviews that may be associated with the restaurant.
This restaurant is relatively brand new, and is privately owned. Many negative reviews are focused on the long wait times and some of the staff, but growing pains such as these are to be expected with a new establishment, let alone one so inundated by popularity as this.
A new staff working together will take time to work into perfection, and adjusting output on the kitchen for the level of traffic on any given night is extremely difficult. So if you are easily annoyed or irritated by slight hiccups like this, you might want to reconsider. But if you have any level of patience in your mind, and would like some seriously good BBQ, look no further.
I am one of such people who has the patience and experience to know that a restaurant only a few months old might be slightly debilitated on a Saturday night, and I expect there to be some minor issues.
Yes the food took a little while longer than expected, and yes, the food is presented on a tin pan, much the same way food is normally placed on a ceramic plate. Our food was hot and delicious.
Bottom line: If you want to support a local business which features some of the best BBQ in the area, with some great craft beers/cocktails from their bar, look no further. It's worth the wait, and I sincerely doubt the true BBQ fan will be disappointed.
I look forward to supporting this restaurant in the future and appreciate the level of quality and dedication they put in their product, and hope they never stop improving.
Absolutely love the food not so much the wait! Ive been twice and will be back!
Very much enjoyed the BBQ experience here. Favorites were the apps - wings were off the chain, bacon JAR, & nachos. Mains were also tasty but I really loved those apps. Will def return when I'm in the area and looking to be a gavone.
I really like this place! I come here about once every other month on average with a couple of friends. I am extremely selective picky when it comes to barbecue. I find their barbecue sauce to be delicious. Their meats are usually pretty tender. Cornbread is hit-or-miss, excellent when it is moist but inedible when it is dry. I wish they had an option similar to the Tres Hombres option that Dinosaur BBQ offers. I rather not have to order three meets separately by the half pound. Solid place and I will absolutely be a regular for a long time.
Update 12/22/17: I'm taking a star off because of poor service a second time around. My friend added a chicken entree to the take out order. When the meal was finally ready, my friend specifically asked the gentleman at take out if the chicken was included in the bag, and without checking he said affirmatively yes. We got home, and the chicken was not there. In addition, as part of the order, I had a jalapeno cheddar sausage link. It was fantastic when I was there a few weeks ago and ordered it, but last night, it was nearly inedible. Well over-cooked, extremely dry, and very unappetizing. It was a very disappointing visit. I really do like this place, but I think they need to be a bit more consistent in their service and also in the level of moisture in their food. I question if items like the cornbread and sausage are being held too long prior to being served, which would explain the inconsistencies.
Spare ribs overcooked (thick/dry bark) and loaded with fat. A poor value at 34/rack. Far too much fat on the brisket. Sausage and cornbread okay.
Hoodoo is the best BBQ place I've been in CT hands down.
On a weekend night you ll be waiting and it s well worth the wait. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly, great atmosphere and the food is great. Portions are also huge, will be coming back in the future for sure.
They gave us some really good food and good service here last time we came
Fast service friendly staff...humongous portions...the best smokey flavor in my area...the sides are also generous...the collard Greens are #EVERYTHING
Food is out of this world and the servers are super friendly. Absolutely a good place to eat if you can beat the rush of people and want some quality BBQ.
They are very popular so make sure to be there when they open if you want to avoid a wait.
Food was good, tasty, but cold temperature wise. About a 30 min wait, very limited parking. Enjoyed the Smoked Turkey, Carolina and Reg BBQ sauce, sweet potato fries and collard greens. Brisket was very good, would have rated higher if the food was HOT!
Mediocre overall. Decently priced, decent service. Sausage links were rubbery and mushy. Maybe just a geographical difference as I m familiar with snappy links. Chicken was above average and the brisket was the best thing I ate here. Looking for a stronger alternative to BBQ in CT.
The meats were very dry. Could not eat the food. The sides were good.
Okay, y'all. I love their barbecue, I really do. But three times we've come here and have not received decent service in the slightest. Two times we've walked out after waiting way longer than we were told we'd have to. Makes it not worth the trip at all, honestly. From the beginning usually you're told it's a 30 minute wait, which turns into an hour + with no indication of how soon you'll get a table because the host/hostess is running around doing other things. I've worked in the restaurant industry so I don't understand why they don't just hire a hostess? With all the money they're pumping in, those wages are a small expense to make customers much happier. To management: don't get our hopes up & just be honest! When you have hungry people, they're gonna be pissed off at you either way, so you as well be upfront and say that it's going to be an hour and a half for 2 people if that's always the case. We ultimately decided it's not worth our time or money going here.
Just left here. Stopped on a recommendation, out of fried chicken n waffles, out of pork belly. And a good portion of the (what looked to be epic) desert menu...lol..uhm it was only 430 on a Saturday? Well, neither here or there I guess..the waitress didnt offer ketchup for the fries or to refill drinks ..only 2 bbq sauces and both were too sweet..oh..the iced tea is weird...had an after taste? Not our favorite..
Love it here! The BBQ capital of Connecticut. Best BBQ in the state without question. Top notch Texas style Brisket with lots of love delicious peppery bark. You can specify how rich or lean you want it (fatty). The other things you absolutely don't want to miss on the menu in my opinion are the pork belly, wings, collards, mac n cheese, cornbread, and corn on the cob. I definitely enjoy their jalapeno cheddar sausage but my other half doesn't. Their desserts are also excellent, the s'mores pie is very rich and delicious, my lady loves the fried Oreos and we both love the chocolate chip bread pudding with ice cream on top. The owners mother makes all the desserts. This place is about 50 minutes from my house but as I tell everyone, it's worth every second of the drive.
Where to begin...brisket, jar o' bacon, even the sides are fantastic. This is a rare one stop shop where everything on the menu is fantastic. Parking can be a pain, and I wish the restaurant was larger and had more seating because it can be hard to get in some nights, but there's a big reason for that... the food is fantastic!
Food 10/10
Service 10/10
Atmosphere 10/10
This place is perfection. The owners are hitting all the high notes on this one. Their beer options are always fantastic, food is always on point and very friendly staff.
Only problems with this place are a lack of parking and long wait times. Both of which are a direct result of the success of the business. If you are looking for some meat sweats and family style eating... Go here.
Tried to support this place during a ruff time. Last week I could not get anyone to pick up the phone after calling ten times in a row as instructed by the voicemail. Today, I was hung-up on. I'll be going to other BBQ places from now on.
The portion size and taste of the food is great. Customer service is hit or miss.
By far the best BBQ in the greater Danbury area. You have not lived until you have had the pork belly, in all its forms. From the Hogzilla to the pork belly burnt ends, you are left with a feeling of delicious satisfaction.
Nice bbq for ct and have some good mixed drinks and beers on tap. My one gripe about this place is that the consistency of the ribs is all over the place. One time you get them and they re nearly fall off the bone other times they re jerky dry.... my last stop yesterday was so dry I threw away an expensive meal so was pretty let down. Other options that are better in ct (but not close to here) are dinosaur bbq in Stamford or bears bbq in Hartford. Much better quality, taste and consistency all around.
Orders come out super fast. Meat falls off the bone. Mmm mmm mmmm. Great service and atmosphere
Amazing Brisket. Truly serious simple BBQ food.
With long waiting lines, no reservation, pretty basic interior and rather pedestrian comfort features - worth every hardship there is! Amazingly great!
Warning sign! Dangerous!
Have had a dinner there last Saturday. There were some rumbling among guests and waters that the place had run out of food (which happened before - a good sign, albeit some planning expertise could help) .
But this "love of my live" - The Brisket did arrived. Much disappointment. Really bad. Obviously it was pulled out of the smoker hours and hours before its time!
I will take it as a totally atypical mistake.
But I've seen patterns. Any successful place selling something wonderfully good (food, product, service, etc.) starts cutting corners to satisfy growing demand! It is a classical beginning of the business demise!
Please! Control the quality. I rather will go home without having my brisket. Upset. But I did go home with NOT my brisket not just upset, but almost furious! As if I've caught my girlfriend cheating on me!
Please stay on a top! Keep your very high and rightfully earned mark! Hate to loose you!
Some of the best BBQ in CT, Patricia is the best waitress ever!!!!
Food was great...I just think I got in on a wery busy day..the wait is why im not getting them a 5...
This is the place for BBQ 5 all the way around . I will be back for more
