So my girlfriend's family came into town, and we looked for a nice place to bring them. We had heard whispers around town about how good the German food is here, so we gave it a shot. This place is nestled smack dab in the middle of beautiful Downtown Sanford amongst plenty of street parking. We made reservations a couple weeks prior, like the website suggests, and we were thankful. The place was packed when we got there, packed when we left, and the line at the host's stand was always long. Popular place.
We get in and have a seat and look around at all of the German-inspired decor all around us. Our server is super nice and gets our drinks out very promptly. The menu is lengthy, and everything sounds absolutely delicious. It was hard to choose. The first thing they advertise is their sausage plates. Tons of combinations of sausages with tons of sides that they pile up.
However, we went with a couple of schnitzel options. My girlfriend got the Wiener Schnitzel (The Hollerbach Schnitzelhaus classic! With honey mustard dressing (chicken)). This was solid. I hadn't had chicken schnitzel before, but it was so good, like a nice chicken parm. The honey mustard dressing was just sweet enough to be the perfect balance to the fried chicken.
She got Potato Pancakes (Two potato Reibekuchen with onion, egg, and parsley - served hot off the griddle mit apple sauce) and Sweet Red Cabbage (Cooked with tart Granny Smith apples) as sides. The potato pancakes were crispy and potato-y and they held well together. The cabbage was ok. I don't really like cabbage, but I had a couple bites, so that says it was pretty good.
Overall, this was an awesome meal. The stuff wasn't greasy, the flavors were rich but not too heavy, the portions were just right, and the price was also right. Like, I loved this meal. I will be back.
