The volunteers Staffing the buildings were very knowledgeable and very friendly. The gentleman who described the procedures for Manning the Cannons was extremely knowledgeable almost like an encyclopedia. The Civil War reenactment was well done.

The telegraph is without a doubt an important invention and this place being its birthplace makes it worth a visit. The museum was very informative and showed the evolution of communication technology since the invention of the telegraph. While the telegraph is mostly associated with Morse, the museum also highlights the lesser known Alfred Vail, whose contributions are as significant.

The entire historic complex is made up of picture worthy buildings, one of which is the home of the industrialist Stephen Vail, Alfred's father. There are docent-led tours of the house but the museum is mostly self-guided. You can book the tour at the Visitor Center. Make this your first stop if you're visiting. We were here for two hours.

I love the history in this place. A photographer s playground or a good place for a photowalk. I walked around snapping shots with my daughter and she enjoyed the walk. Whether taking pictures or just taking a walk, this is a neat place. It s one of the more interesting places in NJ. Also, notable that it seems to be apart of a National Historic Park. I love National Historic Parks.
