The house is being revamped right now yet that was the main issue we had with the whole spot. Magnificent spot to visit. We turned out poorly to the base park since it was simply such a long stroll there and back. We happened to go on multi day that they had a man wearing period attire playing the harpsichord and that was extremely slick to see.

Visiting Mount Vernon never gets old. New exhibits have been added to the museum and the main house paint color was charged to better reflect how it may have looked when George Washington lived there. So much to see and do!!

I understand the need to be true to history, but dedicating half of the Mt. Vernon museum to slavery seemed a bit disingenuous. I wanted more about Washington and his positive legacy, and not more institutional guilt trips telling us what horrible people our Founding Fathers were for participating in (and eventually ending) an institution that has been in existence for well before America was colonized.

The rest of Mt. Vernon was delightful. The interpretive guides were knowledgeable and the experience rewarding.

Great place to visit to learn history and have an overall great experience. We went during the holidays at night which is a much different experience from the normal tours and I'd highly recommend making the trip then if you can.

Not a full 5 star since this location is not photo friendly inside the main house. You are permitted to take pictures anywhere else on the grounds, just not inside the main mansion. We spent several hours on the grounds, and it was awesome to see the gardens, tombs, and other items that are being preserved at this historical location. We have a full review of this location on our website and YouTube channel.

Superb. Awesome experience learning about George Washington and his mansion. It's been kept up quite nicely and there's lots to see. I just wanted to stay in the backyard admiring the Potomac river.

This was such a neat place to visit! There's so much to see while you're here, there's so much history to uncover! The layout of this place is so cool, you get to walk through the days when Washington lived on the property. You can tour the house where there's even more history to learn. It does cost to get into Mt. Vernon but the tour of the house is free. You will need to get tickets to tour the house, this way you have a set time to tour rather than everyone touring at once. You can see where the river separates Virginia and Maryland. They have a huge gift shop with so many souvenirs, information and nick-nacks. If you're in the area go check this place this out!

One of those iconic places you have to visit when in Washington. Beautifully restored and maintained. Interesting tour guide. Good that the displays are balanced and factual, dealing with the issue of slavery and the wider context of Washington's ambitions as a successful farmer/businessman.
I guess an oversized gift shop and slightly over orchestrated feel are only to be expected in such a busy tourist attraction.

I visited Mt. Vernon again. The last time was three years ago and it ended when I was not treated like any other white visitors. I was talked down by an old white woman tour guide as if I shouldn't be there. I got my entrance fee back. This time I tried again. It was not great but it was not without a struggle to con"t the tour. First, in the entrance by a white young woman when I asked where to go to the main house tour and I was the only one in line, "go over there they will show you!" but it was not straight forward and I was glad a young man of color told me to go outside the building to take the main house tour otherwise I will be inside the building looking for "go over there". The house tour was like in Disneyland, we were hurried through and no time for asking questions and some of the information I heard was not historically accurate!!! Finally when the house tour was finished an older white woman was outside by the name of Mrs. Ricca..... she has the title of History Interpreter and she has the job for 18 years. Mrs. RiccI.... was asking, "anything questions?" and I thought this is great I finally had a chance to ask questions but it was not meant to be. He raised her head and looked down at me when I asked, "those can"t be Washington's original books? Do they have printed and bounded books at that time?" I love books and have many many books in my house. Mrs. Ricca.... answered with her , "I don't need to answer your questions" attitude, "Well!" she said, in her "uppity" and "I am better than you attitude", "the Chinese invented the printing!" as if, "don"t you know!!!" Guess what? I don't know the Chinese invented the printing and then she con't her attitude of "go away, my time is not for you" and there was a middle age heavy set white woman jointed her to talked down to me and long behold a 50 years old white male walking with a stick came out the main house without knowing what was going on, he shout out loud, "you Chinese! you cheated on us and you should go home!!!" It sure sounds like, Dfrumpf=Trump's campaign speeches. I told him that I am Asian American, a proud American and I have been in this country longer than he has been alive; he had his 2 daughters and a wife followed him, luckily his wife told him, "don't say anything!". I just feel sorry for his two daughters to grow up in a family with a dad that talked like Dfrumpf/Trump and of course I feel sorry for his wife, too! It was like a circus! Can something be done about these Mt. Vernon, George Washington's tour white guides???
Can Mt. Vernon, the home of our founder father and the first President of the U.S. can you hire more inclusive, friendly, knowledgeable tour guides? And don't mind people asking stupid questions!!!
Does the tour has to be conducted like in Disneyland? That the visitors are rushed through the Washington's house?
The tour guides please do not talk down to any other race, the people of Colors as if we know nothing and their time are not for people of Colors but for the whites only!!
I do have two college degrees and worked all my way through college 100% and one of my college degree is in American History.
I would like to be treated better next time when I go visit our Founder Father, the First President of the U.S. George Washington's Mt. Vernon!!!
I spoke to a very nice and knowledgeable customer service young lady by the name of Ms. Astrid B....... later and she did make me feel that this trip was not in vain and we ended our conversation by shaking hands. Hallelujah!!!

Really enjoyed the mansion tour and the history of the area. I liked how much effort and time was dedicated to the men and women who were enslaved on the property. The museum does a great job of telling the stories that are rarely talked about in history books.

Overall the property was gorgeous, our tour guide - Bob K. - was fantastic, and Mrs. Washington was AMAZING; we could've just sat with her for hours and listened to her talk. Lost one star due to the annoying inconvenience when it came to buying tickets. Online, I could use my Veteran discount for all adult tickets in my party, but then couldn't book it because we were too close to the tour start time (we were trying to buy for the 1415 at 1400), so it said we had to buy them in person (or so the error said...). When we get there, we're told they (the cashiers) don't have the ability to honor the discount for all persons in the party, that only the Veteran or Active Military person can get it. The cashier then recommended we again try and order online. We try, no luck. We bought our separate tickets and we're then given different tour times even though we said we were together. Not sure how that's logical at all. Fortunately customer service inside said I could go ahead and attend the one with my group, regardless of the time on my ticket. Turns out it's HIGHLY likely had we known the 1415 one was sold out, and picked a later one, we actually could've bought them online, used the discount, and had no issues.
I'm not complaining about being shirked $18, I have issues with: 1. The Cashier giving us bad information, 2. The inability to have a discount that's available online not available in person. Think of all the older or tech-illiterate folks losing out because of the inability to order online, and 3. The incorrect error on the site, or at least the failure of the correct error to let me know that the 1415 was sold out. Again, if that fact had been known, we'd have tried a later time and likely been successful.

This is one of my favorite places to visit in the area... make sure you take the time to visit this historic place where our country was largely founded. From this space many went forth to claim land in ll portions of the land in nearly every direction. Washington was an amazing inspiring leader.

Wonderfully preserved in a way that you can imagine what life was like for George and Martha. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Don't miss the sit-down restaurant; it's got a great menu with period dishes and treats that will make history come alive. We had a terrific waiter who makes a drink George enjoyed. Cheers!

The grounds are maintained beautifully and everything is well-marked. You can really make your visit into whatever you like. Want a detailed, entertaining, and educational audio tour? They have that. Want to be shown an area or specality by a knowledgeable guide? They have that. Want to just walk around one of the most beautiful natural areas you will ever see? They have that.

My whole family really enjoyed our visit here.

Interesting historical site. Not sure if the tour of the mansion is worth the $20 entry fee, but considering it comes with access to the expansive property and walking trails, it's not bad. Awesome views! Good for families as well.

"General George Washington" is amazing. He knows his history. The education center is incredible. Contains many hands on interactive activities. Only gave a 4 star rating because the majority of the staff is rude and apathetic.

This is where I learned how degrading George Washington really was . There is not one headstone or even a grave for any slave it's like they were just thrown into the woods. An experience that brought tears to my eyes and not in a good way.

Wonderful place to spend the day. Try to spend atleast 3-4 hours here if you can stay on your feet for that long. The mansion tour is about 45 minutes and the rest of the facility is open to you to explore and enjoy!

Waited 2 hours per schedule time on the ticket to tour the manson. Was not allowed in after the 2.3 hours wait as all the group tours were allowed in before the individual tickets. Was a waste of time and money and we gave up and walked away. It was supposed to be the hi-light of my visit to Virgina for the day from Baltimore.

So much to see and learn! You could easily spend a few hours at the estate. The house tour was cool and the surrounding areas are also very interesting. Make sure you have a cold bottle of water and sun block if you go during the summer. There isn't a lot of air conditioned spots (really only the dining hall, the gift shop, and main entrance lobby) and though there are areas of shade there are large open areas between them.

Make sure you wear good walking shoes, there is some walking while you are on the property. The tour of the house was pretty good, but you're in a line of people being pushed through the house and up the stairs and then back down the other stairs. The house was not really decorated alot either. I would give that part of the visit a 3 star review, but the museum part of the tour was very informative. I would give that part 5 star review. Overall it was worth going to.

Five stars for history, two stars for interpretation and some staff. Intoductory film is aimed at people who spend too much time looking at television. One staff member was quite rude. Management has missed an opportunity to educate. Instead it brought interpretive to a level of Disneyland.
Too bad.
