This is a great place to visit. Its historic and has great views.
This is a great place to visit. Its historic and has great views.
This is a beautiful estate and worth the trip. The education center they've built out is great!
Mount Vernon is George Washington's home. You can tour both the home and the grounds. It is also Washington's final resting place. The view from the front porch is stunning, the house is smaller than expected, the grounds do not disappoint. Take the time to wander around. Make sure to visit Washington's tomb.
The grounds and mansion are beautifully kept. The people working as guides are very polite, very knowledgeable and eager to share their knowledge. The reenactments are realistic and well done. We had a great day touring Mount Vernon.
Great to visit with friends, family and kids. An alive history place
Nice place and tour, SUPER RACIST intro video. How about we get 21st century and recognize that Native Americans were defending their sovereign territory from foreign invaders... or at least treat them as individuals, not faceless savages. If you do go, don't stay to watch this if you have children with you.
A great place to learn about early american history. Exhibits are spread out so you will need a day to explore the site especially as there is a long que for washington house
I really enjoyed visiting George s house. Sitting on his porch gazing at the river imagining what life was like for him was unforgettable. Walking around the gardens and visiting the (circular..octagonal?) barn was fasinating...it inspired me to read his biography
the manor of the first ever united states president has been reduced to a tourist's attraction that more likely than not is filled to the brim with a group of middle school students going to washington dc for a school trip
A lot to see here. Staff was riendly and interactive.
Go see our first president's home and learn its history. Worth the price of admission. The new visitors center is wonderful. Wander the grounds all the way down to the river. Walk in the steps of history.
If you love history Mount Vernon is worth a look. Just be sure to check out the Grist Mill down the road from the main plantation. You can only get there via the shuttle bus so it can be easy to miss, but the working mill is really cool to see. Take the tour and enjoy.
My first visit was in 1977, it gets better every year. Thanks for keeping history alive for present and future generations.
So glad this piece of history has been preserved. The tour was informative and fun. The grounds are beautiful and serene. Great for a school trip or family outing. There is a lot of walking if you want to see all of the grounds. Wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes.
A very valuable informative venue. Really enjoyed the visit and historically significant of the venue. The museum and layout take a good few hours to go through as well as the videos to look over.
Although I wasn t able to enter GW s home, it was nice to see the area. The wine festival was pretty fun! I just wish the event started earlier in the day because it became dark just shortly after the event started.
I love this place. It is super dogfriendly. No dogs allowed inside buildings. It is a great place to walk my dog. On a busy day, parking can be a challenge. If you bike, recommend parking nearby and take the trail on bike. There are bike racks in the parking lot and also in the trail between the parking lot and the entrance to GW's Mount Vernon. There is a bag check point after you bought your tickets and entered the museum building. There is a bag size limit allowed onto the property. It is easy to miss the Forest Trail, a very short trail through the woods with informative and interactive signs. I wish the trail was longer. This trail is not for wheelchairs and for those with difficulty walking. The steps down are uneven and with small rocks that can be slippery. Be careful. I had hiking shoes on and I took my time walking down the steps toward the farm area. I live the water views and if you have time, take the cruise. When you enter the GW's tomb and the slave memorial area, please be quiet. There are signs asking visitors to maintain quiet and peace... For those who passed. I didn't go into the mansion because I have my pups. When you buy your tickets, you will have a mansion tour time assigned, printed in the tickets. The back of the mansion faces the river, a nice area to sit down and enjoy the view. Restrooms are behind the garden and next to the farm near the river. The property is always very clean. I visited today and they had a trick or treating Halloween event and I really enjoyed seeing kids and adults dressed up for the event. There are lots of trashcans and recycled bins throughout the property. Bring poop bags if you bring your pups. There is no poop bags available on the property. Bring water for your pups, too.
It is fun to wander around and see everything. I had fun even though it was raining.
You should plan a full day to completely explore this place. Its absolutely beautiful and very educational. I highly recommend a visit here.
Love this place, great for homeschooling field trips
Great location on a good weather day. Expect to stand outside in a long line for the main house tour, especially on the weekends. Lots of open spaces for kids to run around in.
It's a great family place for learning and activities. The engagement they have with community activities is nothing short of impeccable. My wife and I became members after one trip.
Fantastic place. They ve done an incredible job of preserving the grounds and stuffing with people dressed of the day. They re extremely knowledgeable and it s impressive to listen. The home itself is awesome. Perfectly maintained and authentic. The grounds out building and annexes are also setup extremely well and preserved. A must see.
Gives an in dept look at the life of our first president. Can be a bit of a wait, so plan ahead.
Wonderful estate rich with history. The walk down to the Potomac is worth it. The views are amazing.
Perfect place for families and a good view! Always a positive atmosphere and friendly faces! Thankful for places like this in the community that provide a safe environment for travelers or locals.
Great piece of history...be prepared to walk a lot.
Great tour of the home. Even though it was raining we were still able to tour most of the property easily.
What a wonderful experience. Grandson loved it. The 4D movie with lights flashing, huge sounds and the seats shaking every time the cannons were fired. Best was the actual snow coming down from the ceiling as Washington crossed the Delaware.
Food was good in the restaurant too.
Great day family outing day.
Frankly, a little underwhelming. Suffers in comparison to Monticello. The view is spectacular and the gardens are nice.
Awesome educational museum. The view from the back porch is amazing!
Get the hoecake..... just get the hoecake and onsite grown vegetables. Delicious and filling, perfect for lunch. Management was very much present making sure everyone was being taken care of. During our short visit the restaurant we were seen by two managers who refilled our glasses, commented on our great choice of menu items, and ensured our stay was pleasant. Our waitress was efficient and quirky. She had a great sense of humor, kept making jokes about anything and everything. Get the hoecakes and vegetables farm.... You'll be happy!
Just a place of absolute beauty. The history is amazing. Takes you back to a different time and world.
Washington's house and more! So cool and very much history
Very nice place to visit and soak in the history. 3-4 hours recommended. Short film, main house tour, and surrounding quarters self tour. We went with the Grayline bus tour found in the Union Station garage. We actually booked online.
American History Enlivened! If you want to learn more about George Washington that you won't easily find in textbooks, then this is the place to go to get a visual of life as it was back in the day.
However, don't go on a hot day. If you don't tolerate the heat well, try going when the weather is cooler. Standing in the long line waiting for your turn to get a tour of the mansion, can be exhausting. Nevertheless, it's worth a visit!
Mt. Vernon is a great place to learn more about our first president. A tour of the house is included with your general admission. Wear good shoes because you will walk a lot. The grounds are beautiful, even in the winter.
Great historical information and guides. Lots to see here, be aware, they don't allow photos inside the home. They have lots of things to see on the property, boat docks, barns, graves of George and Martha, as well as the graves of slaves and a beautiful view of the river. You will probably spend at least an hour here and probably closer to 2 hours.
Amazing spot to remember important pieces of the history
One of the prettiest places on earth. Wonderful history and guest accommodations. I'll come here as often as possible
Fabulous book talk with David Rubenstein. So totally worthwhile.
A great place for a visit. History, nature, a great museum, and an excellent restaurant.
Nice historical place that really represents American history and great views in Washington's baskyard.
Very beautiful place and you learn about American history.
Beautiful place, awesome exhibits. The mansion tour is WAY to fast. Only 15 minutes. I would have like it if they allowed you more time but still wonderful to see.
Beautiful grounds along with an extensive and informative museum.
Beautiful grounds, rich historical narrative, An eye opener. If you are in the DC area, make it a day trip!
Off season is best. Only my wife and myself in the tour group. Like a personal tour guide.
I wasn't impressed it isn't taken care of very well. and the whole house was under renovation
Perfect, beautiful, peaceful, historical, great memories!
Great place to visit for a piece of history! It is a lot of walking, but totally worth the experience! I loved touring George Washington's house! The views and the entire property are beautiful! The staff are dressed in historically accurate garb and are extremely knowledgeable and able to answer a multitude of questions.
The museum was awesome. I would highly recommend going through there if you have the opportunity. It's highly interactive so it holds the attention of little ones.
There is a large gift shop and a restaurant. The entire grounds are very clean.
A unique experience into the daily life of George Washington. Absolutely recommend the tour through Mt. Vernon.
Love, love, love this place! Will definitely come back again!
Nice to see. It was interesting but once you seen it there's really no reason to go back. Don't waste your money on the National Treasury tour.
Absolutely extraordinary! Cannot wait to return. Wish we would have left more time for exploration.
Great but when I went they said I could not go back in
Well worth the 35 min trip outside of DC to check out our first Presidents estate at Mount Vernon. Gorgeous views and be sure to talk to the staff who do their best to make the experience real and enlightening. Currently under renovation....
Great place to visit. Enjoyed the fireworks to end the day.
Full of history. Great exhibition. A must see sight if you are in Washington.
Good history but a mediocre tour (do not buy the tour)
