They re super bad at what they do. They didn t have my account in their system so when it tried calling them for a month straight they told me they didn t have Any account with me then marked in my credit report that I missed a payment. Then charged me a bunch of late fees.

Worst loan company I have ever delt with. Awful customer service, Incompetent people. This company is borderline unethical with their billing process. I will never recommend and tell all new high school grads to not use them or trust anything they say.
I have a Perkins loan managed by Heartland ECSI, and my god this place should be shut down. I ve had numerous issues with them in the two years I ve been making payments. They erroneously reported me to be delinquent to the credit bureaus, they inaccurately calculated my income for my income based repayment plan, they re system has failed several times to enroll me in autopay in which case you re only left with payment options that include exorbitant convenience fees, and a myriad of other inexcusable behaviors. This place uses predatory and exploitative business practices to target low-income students, awful.
I tried to pay off my remaining balance on my loan 4 times And each time they assured me it will be taken out of my account but each time is never was.
Horrible service. I am routinely hung up on by "supervisors" . No one in this organization is contemporary financial regulations. How are they still in business?
In terms of online student loan repayment, Heartland ECSI is a nightmare. Their service does not allow you to target specific loans in your loan package, which should be illegal. The previous carrier of Perkins loans allowed for individual loan repayment as does MyFedLoan. Heartland ECSI charges a $1 fee for making a one-time payment from a bank account, which is extortionary. Lastly, ECSI won't save and hash your bank account information, making it more difficult each time a student wants to make a one-time payment. I am not impressed with the way Heartland nudges consumers into bad loan repayment practices. More people should complain, especially college and university loan officers.
This loan company is the scum of the earth. Terrible service online and on the phone, late notices of false delinquency. God help you if your school made you take loans through these sharks
I agreed to make a payment of 250 per month on a loan, to ecsi. I made two payments one month, totalling 350 and they reported to the credit bureau that I made less than the agreed upon payment amount and reported it as a late payment. very shady, disrespectful people. I paid the loan in full when I saw what they had done to my credit report. I guess they only noticed the additional, 100 dollar payment and didn't realize I had made a previous 250 dollar payment the same month. they refused to redact this false report to the credit bureau.
This company is horrible. They make everything about handling a student account hard. The app doesn t fully work and there are service fees for every payment you make. The account set up is horrible and must call in to navigate their poorly built website.
First, their web development team is so incompetent that it took multiple payments from the checking account at the end of March. Rather than being proactive to reverse these repeated charges, they demand that I jump through hoops just to get the money back. Then they refused to refund for late fees that resulted from their error. They should be forced to pay us back...with interest. What they did may be legal, but it is not ethical. They could have proactively identified these erroneous payments and contacted those who were impacted. To my knowledge, they did not.
You would think that a company whose sole entire enterprise is collecting money would be capable of doing so efficiently and effectively, but not ECSI. I have had a """""late""""" payment 3 times this year because the amount changed and their "auto pay" option is absolute garbage and does not work. It's the year 2018 and they do not understand the concept of an "always pay the amount due" option for their student loans. You might be thinking, "well you can just log on every month and pay manually instead of trying to rely on a feature you say doesn't work." That's like saying "well you can just rip all your limbs off and eat them instead of going to the grocery store" because visiting, navigating, and accomplishing what you set out to do on the ECSI website is easily the worst experience I've ever had on the internet, which is really saying something considering how awful the internet is. In fact, I'm starting a campaign to label ECSI a hate group because there is no other explanation for the pain and suffering they cause aside from pure malice. Mind you, I'm not talking about "pain and suffering" from the student loans themselves -- I am saying that the experience of using this loan servicer is so pointlessly difficult and infuriating that I can only assume it is done intentionally. In addition to being unusable, they also charge ridiculously insulting fees just to pay your loans, so good luck with that. This servicer absolutely sucks but of course it doesn't matter because I had no choice but to use them.
These comments are stupid. I pray the students commenting on here don't vote. ECSI doesn't own any loans, they just service them on behalf of the school. It's not ECSI's fault that you're all just dumb.
My student loan servicing was just transferred to this company. TERRIBLE! You can NEVER reach a live person by email, phone, or chat... website does not allow you to do most things... you cannot find account info you need... they REFUSE to send out tax forms... when they tell you "just click here" there is no link there... I can FINALLY view monthly statements 4 months later... who are these idiots and how are they still in business??? You should EXPECT to get screwed by these incompetent company. This type of mismanagement WILL ruin your finances if you are not paying attention! Just try to pay off your loan ASAP so you don't end up in jail or in trouble with the IRS or unable to take out bank loans or credit cards!
Their employees are extremely unhelpful and cannot help you past their pre-written question/answers. Anything specific to your loan just turns into an endless roundabout with your question never getting answered. I have never had a good experience with this company.
WAITED ONLINE FOREVER ! WAITED ON THE PHONE FOREVER ! No one responded to my chat window, which stated that I only had to wait "22" minutes over an HOUR ago.. && STILL... NO RESPONSE! When someone called me back after finally being given the option to "save my place in line" - a VERY RUDE woman called me back & stated that there was NOTHING ECSI could do about my case & to contact the school... AFTER JUST getting off of the phone with Virginia Commonwealth University(THE SCHOOL) - who, in fact, told me to contact THEM (ECSI) - Its a f**king joke! I feel as if they purposefully ignore the phones & chats because they then are allowed to just take your tax money if you file a tax return on time... COMPLETE SCUM ! Save your time & look elsewhere.. this is a DEAD END && QUITE USELESS !
I have been dealing with this company for over a year and I have had to contact them for my own questions a few times I have never had not the first issue! Not sure what all these other bad reviews are about but I disagree fully. They are prompt responding on chat, answering phones and providing answers to my questions and I have also had to be transferred to a supervisor where I had my question fully answered there too. 5 stars!
Sham of an online student loan servicing site. They charge you a fee to process an e-check payment...how should you be charged to pay online these days? I had no choice in the loan servicer...if you can get your loan moved to another servicer, do it. This company is horrible. Also, it takes anywhere from 4-5 business days for your payments to actually post unlike the website claims.
These guys can't get their act together. Constant hassles with billing errors, lost records, loans mishandled. Creates a lot of work for administrators in the financial aid office and unhappy students. If you are a school looking for someone to service your student loans, find another provider.
I worked here by far the worst servicer of student loans I have ever seen. I feel bad for the students. Good luck to you all who are forced to deal with them.
I had an awful experience with this company. Communication has always been extremely poor and whenever I've needed something it has always taken months to get a straight answer or basic issues taken care of.
