Hazendal has recently opened (26 December 2018) and is under Russian ownership. The entire place has been revamped and is really gorgeous. The Russian influence is visible everywhere and the finishes are of extraordinary quality. There is a deli and lovely Tapas reastaurant. We had Tapas and it was really amazing. We will definitely go back there for more. Hazendal also offer lovely MTB tracks for adults and kiddies alike. There is currently some construction underway that will be dine soon. There is a state of the art conference venue as well and their batrooms are gorgeous

We just finished this month's Hazendal Jazz series. What a super event. The venue is superb, the food is absolutely amazing and the music was so much fun to provide. Shim Sham band kept the toes tapping all night. Don't miss out on the Hazendal Jazz Series evenings. It's top class!

Okay, I don't usually give a five star, but this was wow. Hazendal is on a revamping high, the tasting had a warm but stylish Russian feel to it and the service was fantastic. Mervin was exceptional in his knowledge of wines and the estate's future plans and overall history. The Chardonnay was my favorite.

Absolutely stunning gem on Bottlery Rd. This farm has something for everyone. A beautiful little deli with all day breakfast at reasonable rates. Great for groups. Then there is a separate Beer garden with another restaurant. Finally for the wine lovers a lovely tranquil wine tasting and upmarket restaurant with fine dining dishes to pair with your favorite wines from the farm. If Art is your interest, after your belly is full take a stroll around the Art Gallery filled with local talent... Well kept and stunning scenery this one is a must!

One of the best estates in South Africa! Unique and different offering to all the many estates but in an incredible way. Had a great day out with the family. Wonderdal is next level, service exceptional, food absolutely delicious and upkeep brilliant.

Hazendal Russian Tea is an amazing, tastebud-approved experience! Sitting under the trees, listening to Russian music and drinking a cup of black Russian Tea while enjoying mouthwatering delicacies...lovely!
An outing I would recommend to anyone!

First time at Hazendal so I cannot comment on improvements but it is evident that much renovation has taken place and some has yet to be completed. We had breakfast at the Babushka Deli, which was inside an old, narrow farm building. The decor and setting is nicely done. Food and service was good, I can recommend the waffle with caramelized popcorn. There is outside seating as well, which I would not recommend on cold winter days. The walkways and gardens made for a lovely walk.

This is definitely a place to visit! With great food at either the deli bistro or the fine dining restaurant. Pop in at the deli bistro for delicious cakes and coffee and visit the gift shop section. A lovely Russian tea garden experience is also offered under shady trees. Beautiful views of the Bottelary Hills and a wonderful lawn area with walkways awaits Perfect for a family outing. There is an interactive play centre for children. They are still adding an alfresco style eatery, and developing a stunning garden to wander through. Art gallery and conference centre on premises too. Will definitely be visiting often.

So fortunate to have discovered this gem! Hazendal really has something for everyone, love the attention to detail and the relaxed atmosphere this estate offers. We lunched at the Bubushka Deli, which was throughly enjoyed. Can't wait to return to try out the other options!

Todays- Christmas lunch was a total disaster-- the food was disgusting- service of poor quality-- no management around--

most of the food was frozen--the fish served I literally bit into ice--

This was the most disappointing Christmas lunch out that I have experienced--

I would not recommended anyone to Hazendal Wine Estate--

I cant cook but geez even I could have rigged up something better for my guest!!! -There is no word's to explain todays experience at Hazendal Wine Estate

We discovered a hidden jewel!! The staff as a whole were very, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and we LOVED the overall experience!!!!! We had something light to eat at the Babuschka Deli and paired oor meal with a Christoffel Hazenwinkel blend. A huge bonus is that they serve breakfast all day! Our meal was YUMMY!!!! The art gallery featuring Russian artists and icons was a delight!!!! It is worth going just for the beautiful art.

Overall...it waswell worth the visit!!! We are already planning our visit to the Russian tea garden in April!!!

New developments are also underway andnitnis going to be very family friendly. What would be the cherry on top of the Russian cake would be a walking trail combined with the existing MTB trail.

Would I go there again?? DEFINITELY!!!!!

We were a group of 8 adults, 4 kids who opted to picnic on the plush lawns of Hazendal and we all loved it! The guys went craft beer tasting at the Kraal and the ladies wine tasting and the kids had ample space to run around and play at the mini playground. The food and service was amazing! Make it a goal this summer to go and spend a day there - you won't regret it.

We had lunch in the beer garden - the drinks were great, wide selection and we ordered the lamb and feta flatbread, it was good. After lunch we walked around and explored. Great afternoon, well spent at Hazendal.

Had the Russian High Tea experience. It was an education and tasty evening. The staff are friendly and will promptly assist you. The scenery and buildings are beautiful with a combination of sleek, modern and traditional architecture. A fun-filled place that also accommodates children.

In short, Beef Carpaccio starter wasn't up to standard, however, the Sweet Chilli Beef strips was amazing. Wine was wonderful, service was good. Waiting time for food was a bit long, but there was a function at the main restaurant, which is why our booking was acknowledged, but no table was available and we were moved to their farm stall restaurant. The view and the vibe at the farm stall was amazing, relaxed. MTB trails available and kid friendly. Will gladly go again.

Dropped into Babushka Deli for an early morning breakfast. Lovely crisp morning air complimented the well maintained surroundings at Hazendal estate. We sat on the terrace to enjoy the scenery and the lovely sunshine. A fair number of improvements have been made to the estate since I last visited and quite a workers were still busy completing their jobs. It's a bit distracting but there is never a good time for this type of thing. Smallish breakfast menu (only 4 items) on offer and bacon is an optional extra which from a South African perspective is a bit strange. Will definitely visit again to explore more next time.

Shocking service - have been dialing booking number for over an hour - no answer - called reception- left my number - no call back - sent email - no reply - finally got to speak to someone and they said If I want to book Russian tea ceremony u have to book 24 hours in advance - no where does it state that on ur website - lady said they are not fully booked but u have to book 24 hrs in advance - it would help if u state that... country is going into a recession and u eagerly turn customers away - clearly no economic crisis at hazendal

We went with the Kids to the Deli. Wilhelm and his team were super friendly, food was good and once all restructure is done next month (incl Kids World), this will be even more awesome.
Thanks for this nice experience.

The reasonable pricing on meals, great quality and presentation alone, justifies a visit. You have choice of three eateries (bistro, beer garden and glass house) and a Russian tea experience, where friendly attentative staff awaits you. The gardens will soon compliment what is an excellent marriage between sleek modern and old world architecture. Throw in an interactive science and activity experience centre for kids and a small, but superb selection of vintage Bentley's and Rollce Royces and you have an exceptional facility in the making.

It is a pretty venue, though the service was very slow in the wine tasting room. It took an average of 20 mins before we saw the person assisting us again between each glass in our tasting set. Our original assistant disappeared after taking our tasting selection order and we didn't see him again until he brought the bill.

It is a beautiful wine estate with lots of things too do; wine tasting, high tea, restaurant, beer garden (serves food), Babuska Deli ( great meals and pastries) and Wunderdal (an amazing child interactive area. They also have great wine!

Amazing, scenic views from anywhere on the estate. We were welcomed by a very friendly, Staff member at the door, who assisted us with the wine tasting as well. His Name was Brent. He gave us exceptional service and was very informative of the history of the Hazendal Wine Estate. His service is greatly recommended. We will definitely visit there again.

What an amazing experience. Definately one of my top wine farms to visit. Their deli makes some delectable food and well priced, you definately won't go wrong visiting Wouter and his team at Hazendal

Beautiful gardens, lovely picnic.
I was here before the refurbishment a few years ago and came her with some trepidation, but the somewhat rundown place has been completely transformed. It is such a morale booster that someone is willing to invest to beautify such a historic estate.

Great wine farm! Would definitely recommend. The staff look professional and they are all friendly and willing to help. If you ask them anything about the wine they will answer. Guy in the suit.. think his name was Willem, walked around and asked each person if they are enjoying the stay and showed people around!

@Avant-Garde Restaurant

@Avant-Garde Restaurant

I was treated by my Director to lunch at Avant-Garde for my 20 year service at our firm in CT Centre.

We had one very fun afternoon. The staff was super friendly and explained each dish we ordered with the greatest of detail (and we felt comfortable to ask them). Each dish was well planned and top scores for presentation!

I had a beetroot salad (4/5l, and the grass-fed beef (with a cognac sauce) (5/5).

The dessert (refer photos) had us speachless. Not only did it look like a MasterChef creation, but it was really, really very good. We definitely shared!

The grounds of the entire farm is fresh and I can see that alot of planning went into the new look of the farm - it excites me and I will be back!

Immaculate venue, excellent service. Newly opened with ongoing projects. Restaurant, deli, conference facilities, rose gardens, events. Watch their website for jazz concerts and Easter Sunday specials, including easter egg hunts.

What a fantastic farm - there's truly something for everyone and every pocket from a food truck to a deli to an avant-garde restaurant for tapas. So picturesque, the rolling green lawns are wonderful for an impromptu picnic amongst the art. There's also an educational play space called Wonderdal for children aged 5 to 13. Though we don't have children, they kindly took us on a tour of the place and it's tech features which allow children to track their learning progress using a tag on their wrist. Parents are informed of their children's progress via email. Such an incredible brain child! You don't need to be a child to appreciate the creativity displayed there.
Oh, and when you do pop in, be sure to inform yourself at the owner's private coin collection for free entry, to see the biggest and smallest Krugerrands ever minted.

The new and improved Hazendal is just that - new and improved. They have a great contemporary look with special characteristics meant to inform you subconsciously that they are willing to go that extra mile to make up for their Off-Broadway location when compared to other modern-style farms in the Stellenbosch area. (No, really. They are super committed to letting you know how modern they are striving to be. The fine dining restaurant is actually called Avant-Garde. You can't make this stuff up.)

The Marvol art gallery wasn't yet open when I visited, but I'm keen to check it out, especially after viewing the smaller collection currently on display in the rooms adjoining the classic (but modern!) deli. The chic little pergola situated on their dam was also unfortunately in use, but I definitely day dreamt about lounging under it on a moderately hot summer day.

We partook of the Russian Tea Experience. I highly recommend it. The staffmembers were enthusiastic and engaging in explaining the nuances associated with a traditional Russian spot of tea, but didn't prattle on to the extent that I became bored with the whole affair. (Fear not, lovers of knowledge! A little book is provided that describes everything in more detail.) Much as I support supporting local, it would have been hella cool to have someone from Russia, or at least with a pretend Russian accent, do the talking. With all of the imported Russian goods involved they might as well throw in an actual Russian for authenticity's sake.

The food was complex and delicious! Even the treats I thought I would not enjoy that much surprised me with their depth of flavour (I'm looking at you, Priyanik).

In terms of cost I thought it was fair for lekker food and a novel experience. For R 195-00 per person you get 9 snacks and the standard pot of Zavarka tea. You have to fork out for extra teas, but you can also order off the deli menu to fill your belly if necessary.

BONUS ROUND - someone in our party unfortunately found a hair in one of her treats. The staff were, naturally, very apologetic, even though my companion was not too fazed. They ended up giving her a bottle of wine with a dapper rabbit on it to make up for their whoopsie.

TL;DR - they'll be seeing me again.
