This is a case of being catfished by a hotel. There is no doubt the main building, of which many of the beautiful web photos are taken, is decadent and worthy of the plaudits but the actual hotel around the back is in serious need of updating.
Positives are friendly and genuinely helpful staff from front desk to cleaners, free parking and well located to major road networks and gym-like excellent fitness suite, comfy bed and sheets and cleaners were meticulous on the surface (not behind beds and drawers).
Negatives are the horrendous room layout - it was like staying in a corridor, tired and very dated furniture and bathroom, a leaking shower head, absolutely NO natural light in the lower floors especially with a tiny window looking onto a wall.
I dont understand the views unless I was unfortunate with room choice but my 3 night stay was 3 nights too long.

Fair, a smalll 3 star room with nice yard area, but located in a sketchy neighborhood . Rooms are small and nothing fancy, but fairly clean. The word Mansion is misleading. No refrigerator or continental breakfast.
Over-priced for the accommodations.

Hayes mansion is located between Monterey rd and chynoweth. It has a lovely park that you can walk or run around when visiting. They can provide wedding, business and party services or if you just want to visit san jose it is a really nice hotel to stay at.

If anybody is trying to find good deals for hotels visit HotelBuIIy. com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere!

Timely and friendly service. Buffet was wonderful, fresh foods and very clean. Absolutely loved the champagne brunch, bottomless mimosas!! Gorgeous setting and grounds to walk and enjoy the sunshine. I would say 13+ years old. Great for birthdays and gatherings!

This place has unique architectures and for that reason it was cool for the first day, it is quite dated on the inside and there are consistant issues with heating and air system. No microwaves in rooms, and no communal microwave. We complained for 3 nights about our room being very hot, we were offered a fan which never came. There's no continental breakfast and hotel restaurants are expensive, and eateries are over 30 min walk away. Although the area is nice enough and the structure is neat, I was really wishing I was somewhere else the 2nd and 3rd days.

I had no idea this place existed, but I booked several nights here for a conference that was held at the convention center. It almost reminds me of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. The rooms were standard as hotels go. The breakfast was great! I would definitely book again.

I stayed there for a week. Nice gym and pool. Breakfast was nice. Room size is perfect with huge balcony. Restaurant serves nice food a bit expensive though. There is an outdoor seating available. Rooms are cozy but a bit older. Perhaps need some renovation. But overall value for money.

If you want a peaceful stay in a suburban atmospehere, with short or no drive to everything, this is the place. Stayed here for nearly a week on our honeymoon. And though not the plushest or most luxurious of hotels we have been too-- it suits just fine. With its classic decor, incredible architecture and molding, the history of the facility, the exclusivity, its cleanliness and service allow it to compete with the Hiltons and Ws of the world--all with free parking next to a park. The daily breakfest buffet is a winner and the evenings under the giant palms in the open-air plaza lounge are a must-do. And the pool area is quite sexy. You feel so Hollywood and celebrity-like in its ever warming depths. Great WiFi facility-wide, accommodating staff and friendly upscale guests make this resort worth checking in to for a day or days.

I just called the hotel, before I can finish my sentence the woman who answered he phone cut me off stating " they are fully committed for the night". She did not even listen to what I was asking. Get better employees who know how to be in customer service.

Hospitality plus. Received a wonderful upgrade on our room for a master suite. Clean and beautiful. The old historical house serves an ideal place to host your conference, wedding, or party. Pool and jacuzzi, man cave basement includes a bar, 2 pool tables, and card room. We were given the historic tour by the informative manager. The Sunday brunch was expensive but fantastic! Will return for a special occasion.

This place has a definite spot on the 'bang for bucks' list. Sure, it's deep South of San Jose but if you are going around by car, it doesn't matter. Very calm environment and although it is in a residential area, places are easily accessible. About the hotel: It has a gym and I have to say it is a very good gym. Way better than what I have experienced in Hilton or Hyatt. There's a hot tub outside as well as a small swimming pool which I didn't use because it was too cold. Hotel rooms are clean. Given that the building is almost 100 years old you will hear sometimes footsteps above especially if kids are running. Bedding is very comfortable and since I am always traveling with a USB power hub, I found a free power outlet behind the nightstand. TV worked flawless. There's a fridge in the room which I highly appreciate. On my second night the fridge made sounds like an old steam engine. I called the front and it was replaced after breakfast. The shower is almost heavenly when compared what I have been experienced in the Bay area. There's actually water coming out and I highly appreciate this. Sufficient towels are supplied every day. Also, there's a dispenser for body soap, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower room. And it works well. Finally, I have to mention one unpleasantness. In front of the shower room, there is a wash bowl. While the water supply is perfect, the mirror is clean, and toiletries are neatly organized, the sink was cloaked from day one. As I could not fix this by myself, I asked front. The next day, I did the same, and the day after that. And after that. I stayed 8nights with this importunate situation. It is quite beyond me that an accommodation like Hayes Mansion is reluctant to let something like this slide...
Breakfast is certainly above average in the bay area while being charged 18 bucks.
Bottom line, I would definitely be back if someone can explain to me in person why that ditch pipe never got taken care of and I would like to see a sizable appology.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding and this place was amazing. Anything but your typical hotel stay with beautiful grounds and some history behind it. The brunch with bottomless mimosas was delicious as well. If I am in the San Jose area again I would love to stay here if at possible.

Silver Creek Sunday Champagne Brunch (Hayes Mansion- San Jose):
As a professional chef, I am often unimpressed by buffets. This buffet costs about $45 per person, by reservation only. That is a fairly steep price for a brunch buffet, but the reviews were good and very consistent so my sister and I decided to give it a try. First thing first, this brunch includes unlined champagne and mimosas. My sister chose champagne while I opted for coffee. The coffee was fresh, flavorful and piping hot. Often coffee is an afterthought at such establishments, so I was delighted that it was such a flavorful brew. The array of food was impressive. Gourmet cheeses, fresh fruit including figs and berries, an omelette station, a prime rib station, a pastry station, dessert station, hot savory section including delectible salmon and roasted pork loin creations, a fresh seafood station with king crab legs and coral poached shrimp, a breakfast station (eggs Benedict, scrabbled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, blintzes and roasted potatoes). Everything was fresh, at the right temperature and delicious. I would absolutely recommend this brunch.

You see the grounds and it's beautiful. Unfortunately, the service doesn't follow suit.
Staff is unprepared and unpleasant. I've been here 3 times and each time nothing has improved, it's only gotten worse. From front desk personal trying to charge me for my room(paid a mo. in advance) to not knowing how to transfer a room to room call. Housekeeping took a pillow that had fallen on the floor and made up a perfect bed with it. My sister in law was bitten by bed bugs, my daughter was given a room that was left not just dirty (I don't believe anyone would like to wash our hands in a sink that has DRIED SPIT in it! ) Our banquet meal was served uncovered with the a/c directly over it, the manager was very condescending when it was brought to his attention. Needless to say our Women's group will never return! If I could give them 0 's I would!
Try Dianah's on El Camino instead

As most know this is my " home away from home" & I love everything about it but the food could be improved upon ie:
Change the oil daily for fried food(if possible) more flavor (spices)add vegetarian and vegan options.
