Easy to spot, smaller version of the big Powells but great selection and staff always helpful. Easier to navigate the sections and great variety as always expected from any Powells.

Great selection, great staff, and wonderful atmosphere.
Love Powell Books. The store is much larger than you would expect from the storefront. They have very knowledgeable employees. There are tons of great deals. You can get both new and used books here. Whatever you are looking for, they probably have. This location is nowhere near the size of the Burnside location but is still pretty large.
Love this place! Great coffee shop attached, staff is friendly and helpful, selection is good (not as good as Powell's City of Books on Burnside), and typically not too crowded on any day of the week.
This might be America's last big brick and mortar bookstore. Walking through itbisbkike visiting an amusement park and museum. I hope they can stay open forever. Support them!
This is the place to buy books! Always get the warm cozy feeling when coming here.
Love that there is another Powell's closer to my friend in a quieter part of Portland. The feel is the same and had quite the selection along with a cafe and a second store right next to it.
The drawback for me was one bathroom as a huge line had built up and the fact there seemed to be no real organizational system-- even genres sometimes were completely off.
If you have time to kill then you'll be prepared for trying to locate the books you're looking for.
Powell's is my favorite book store! I understand that they are under pressure because of Amazon and other internet book sellers, but there will never be anything like finding the book you want, in several styles and from several publishers. You can compare the art, the feel, the smell. I went there to introduce my nephew to the world of JRR Tolkien. They have a huge section dedicated to the Hobbit! Maybe 15 versions to thumb through. There's no place like it. It is wonderful!!!
The best place to get lost in. Great collections of books, you can buy or sell your books. Also you can grab a book and enjoy a super delicious cup of coffee while skimming books
Way less hassle than the giant downtown location, and a better coffee ;)
It's the only book store in this neighborhood. They have a great selection of good board games.
Great selection, nice place, great staff, good crowd.
Awesome book store! Friendly staff, great selection of new and used books. Very reasonable prices.
Nice to find books I could not at the Burnside store.
Because it's Powell's, so you know it's awesome! Done and done. Check it out.
Great place to find a book or hang out and read. Friendly staff and you can resell old books.
many more used books available at this location in my experience. a very good selection and lovely staff
Was super busy due to holidays and I was still able to get help quickly and the huge line seem to be g ok ing rocket speed. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes and there was probably over 100 people in line when bbn I got into it.
A local landmark but wish it looked original still.
The most fabulous bookstore. Superb selection and there's a coffee shop on the lower floor. Truly an excellent experience.
All the Powell's bookstore locations are well worth visiting - thousands of used (and new) books!
Love this book store. Or family enjoys hanging out and having a cup of coffee while we read
Everyone should go here at least once, or twice, or four hundred times. Never gets old.
Great selection of book, both new & used. One of the best selections actually that I've seen. Some of the used books that they have are very hard to find any where else. Worth the trip.
Have a great selection of books and a wonderful customer service.
I was going to pick up a book purchased online. The cashier desk in the entrance to the left of the coffee shop is the place to do that.
Parking sucks but totally worth it for the experience of powells, found all the books i was looking for, not as friendly staff as burnside location tho
Fantastic selection of modern and classic literature. Not a ridiculous maze like the main store downtown.
I was just killing time between appointments today so I stopped into Powell's Books for a coffee and came out with two books. Lol. I was wandering around drinking my coffee when this attractive young lady ask if I needed help finding anything. I ask if she could recomend something feel good or inspirational for a not-so-strong reader. Right off the bat she had several books in mind. She pointed out a few that she felt is what I was looking for. And she was exactly correct. Not only that but NOT once did she make me feel uncomfortable about my reading level. I liked that. Everyone i encountered was very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank yall for the pleasant experience. I'll be back for the sequel.
I love Powell's bookstore I know where almost every single one is located from Beaverton to Portland. I just really like the one on Hawthorne street. I find that it is easier to find the books I am looking for and I always find more things then what I was originally looking for.
Smaller selection than the main store but the design of the store is enjoyable for perusing the isles of books, they have a really good business/self help section here. One of the many gems on Hawthorne
I love this Powell's - dedicated to books about home & garden. Row after row of the best cookbooks, gardening tomes, decorating and craft references. Then, in the center of this lovely shop they have the sweetest collection of gifts, knick knacks and household tools. This is always a must-stop when I'm in Portland.
Great stop for a quick coffee or an all day book extravaganza.
A huge selection of books. Employees so helpful and knowledgeable! I can spend a whole day here!
Classic hole in the wall bookstore. A different feel than downtown but just as fun.
Could get lost in this place for days, always find something I couldn't do without!
I'm not sure what to say about this place but Oh My God! If you want a book, go here. If you know what you want than you've got it easy. There are so many titles available and the isles of possibilities becomes overwhelming... Maybe even stressful.
Don't let this smaller Powell's location pass you by! They still have a huge collection of books and merch of all sorts as well as knowledgeable staff that are willing to help.
Ordered some books online and went in to pick them up. Great deals. I love checking out all the unusual items and fun gifts.
A nice junior version of the store. Definitely less overwhelming than the one downtown, if you want more of a small local bookstore type experience.
When I visit Portland, I always stop at Powels. I love books, and there is so much here, new, used, all genre s. Charming, welcoming, home. Come and visit. You won't be disappointed.
The best selection coupled with customer service that has no time for you. In a word, Portland .
Love this place.. it's so awesome.. even if they don't take all your books.. it's just still neat. And to see all the people that still read books..
I always love Powell's, this one is always a favorite for how close it is and not having to deal with downtown. The SciFi sections a little small but still good.
Love this spot more than original Powell's. It's the perfect size!
Good selection. No place to sit down, unfriendly & dim-witted cashier.
This is a great place to find cute gifts for people! Prices are not bad
Amazing satellite location to their downtown location; which, be the way, is an amazing place to spend the day. Plus, coffee shop inside!
Looks small from the front, but it goes deep. Love it.
The best selection of books in any physical bookstore I've ever seen! Only rivaled by Amazon, but it's worth it to support local business
OMG, mini Powell's. It's quite a bit smaller but I find just as many great reads and gift ideas here, and the staff is just as amazing. This is for sure a fun place to browse if you're looking to kill time
Great selection of books, stationary and fun knickknacks
Very convenient when your looking for a book, I could spend hours browsing all the book titles. Staff is always willing to help and they even have a cute little gift shop for that last minute gift you might need. If your looking for cook books they have a great selection!
If you love books, this is the best book store in portland! Awesome location, coffee and selections of new and used books too!
Liked store found many different products I liked would shop there again
Amazingly large bookstore that is well organized. I really like the handwritten notes and signs from the staff.
Powell's is the single greatest bookstore ever and one of the few left. The store is enormous and they stick new and used books. You can get lost here for hours. Love it!!
Hands down all Powell's locations are some of the best bookstores I've been into across the country. The staff at this location are friendly and helpful.
This is the little sister to the giant Powell's bookstore downtown. It has the same atmosphere, just a little less crowded, and you don't have to pay for parking...although sometimes finding parking is a chore. This store also buys back books, like the Big store. Service is super fast and friendly! Coffee shop attached if you wanna hang and read. This place is well stocked with books, I have never been disappointed!
It's a Portland classic. The variety in books is amazing. And it's weird just like Portland.
The clerks at the "sell your books" section of the store were really rude and judgemental. They commented on my partner's cracked (but not broken) ID, saying to eachother, within our hearing, "is this even Ok to accept"?? And that they "thought we were optimistic to think they were going to be able to look at all the books we brought in 19 minutes". Sure, your store was close to closing but that's still 19 minutes I'm expecting you to act friendly, helpful and professional. You can turn is away without the extra passive-aggressiveness and coldness. In my line of work, I serve customers often longer than when we say we're closed, without complaining, because it's my job!! I will not return to SE Powell's Books for a long time and will never buy from that location.
One of Hawthorne's center pieces. I've been going here for most of my life, usually just to see what they've got in stock. Books for school, personal reading, books for you and books for your friends! It's just an overall cool bookstore with friendly staff.
Super knowledgeable and friendly staff and awesome selection.
This was an amazing find. Great selection and great prices...only bad thing was having to tell myself to stick to my limit plan
To sit down to read, you must go to Fresh Pot, a coffeeshop enclosed in the bookstore, with three or less book.
I've never not been able to find a book I've been looking for on a shelf in the store, even though this is the smaller one. I love this place
Excellent bookstore. Plentiful selection, wonderful ambiance, and staff are very helpful. I often head downtown just to peruse the shelves here!
I absolutely love visiting Powell's Books. Anytime my family and I are in the area, we have to stop in to take a look around. We are never disappointed. This location is decently sized. There is a coffee shop at the front of the store, which I love to visit before browsing. They also have a bunch of their home decor and knick knack items available within a separate store just a couple shops down.
Powell's is where my love of sci-fi and fantasy began.
books, books, books!! and board games too if you're so inclined
Amazing. I got to read a children's book aloud and it was fun.
