I eat here once a week, flaming lip roll is on another level!!
I eat here once a week, flaming lip roll is on another level!!
This place is awesome! I really enjoyed the sushi here.
This place used to be amazing and I went all the time...then there was a change in management and the whole place changed for the worse. This trip was just ok
Wowsers!!! Totally enjoyed the dinner experience here.
Alex, staffing at the bar, had some AMAZING recommendations that specifically should be named : rolls Royce and sea bass truffle (nigiri). Additionally, the pork fried was spectacular!!
A favorite location for quality Sushi. everyone at our table was enjoying everything.
This is the absolute best place for sushi in SD, hands down. Freshest ingredients make for amazing melt in your mouth creations. The Culichi Wa is not to be missed!
Sushi is a bit on the pricey side, but OMG is it worth it. The rolls here are super high quality and made with fresh ingredients. lots of creative different signature rolls to try from. my personal favorite is the "Bomb, James Bomb" roll. I uploaded some pictures, but they don't do this place a justice.
Amazing melt in your mouth...the freshest sushi in San Diego. Never disappoints!
Original harney sushi location on Hardy street had horrible service. I took 15 minutes for us to eventually grab a server just to order drinks. Then we ordered four sushi rolls... They brought out 3 roles without the extra sauce that we requested, And didn't bring out the 4th role until 30 minutes later after we already finished the meal. They did not even bring any wasabi with the roles and I had to ask them for it 20 minutes after the roles were at the table because we could not find a server to ask. If you want to experience a good harney sushi go to the Oceanside California one. They're much more professional and it is a much better experience.
I love the vibe at Harney sushi. Dim lit and fashionable servers with good customer service totally make this place feel ultra cool. I come during happy hour for the affordable sushi and drinks. Rolls can be pricey but I honestly think its worth it! Sometimes parking can be a hassle during the weekends so plan ahead.
A great sushi place in Old Town. Service is always friendly and the food is always fresh.
Sushi is my all time favorite and Harney didn't disappoint! The staff was friendly and the wine/sushi was very reasonably priced. The rolls were huge! I went with one friend and we got 3 rolls and were so full. We ordered the Pirate Roll, Andy 2 Roll, and the Wonderland Roll - all were absolutely amazing and we'd order them again. We also got Specialty Edamame with truffle on it which was out of this world.
What a treat! Accidentally ran into this place while we were walking around, looking for lunch. The interior is so cute. Staff were very friendly. I ordered Kartoshechka and my boyfriend order Chicken Kiev. We also got a coffee and a freshly squeezed oj. For dessert we had Medovik, which is my favorite cake, and this one did not disappoint. We will definitely come back! Loved the food and service.
The food is good, but the venue is very small & cramped.
Great fun place to go and with such wonderfully inventive rolls (try the aptly named I dare you for a spicy, sensational treat)
This place is quaint, which makes it perfect for taking friends and a date. The sushi bar is nice and long, so no problems sitting there. I had great sushi and sake. Absolutely nothing I ate or drank here was bad and I had 5 different types of sushi and I tried the orange chicken dish. Highly recommended, oddly affordable and I dare you to not like it and recommend it to someone else.
This place is worth a visit. They have big portions for convenient prices. Constantly clean and with great atmosphere. I highly recommend this place.
Me and my gf wanted to go have a nice dinner in sd during are stay there. We got a recommendation to try this place. The food was on piont we started with the mucles (highly recommend them) we got two glasses of wine one we didnt really like are waitress was quick to swap that out for something else. We got two orders of sushi one being the james bond roles (probably some of the best sushi i have ever had) but thats not what made are experience wonderful. Are waitresses Laceita was not only exstemly knowledgeable of the menu she was also exstemly polite. She took exstemly good care of us. If there has ever been an example of what a waitress or waiter should be she went steps above.
Great location for quality Sushi. Service is excellent even when they are busy. It has an awesome feel to it. Food is like a place in Baltimore I loved.
Bad service. Bartender careless, slow and ready to go home 45 minutes before closing on Saturday night. We didn't wait for drinks, food but just left.
The food is really good and they have several flavors within their rolls. Their rolls are kind of pricey compared to other sushi places. They have a wide variety of drinks like sake, cocktails, beer. I appreciate that they're open pretty late for food and drinks. Even though this is in old town, I've never had too much of an issue finding parking. It can be a bit loud inside and hard for the servers to hear you, which is why i took away a star.
Harney is really just some excellent sushi. I've been here dozens of times and it just gets better with each visit. The Dank Roll, Pirate Roll, and Bomb James Bomb are my top 3 favourites on the menu. The soy truffle edemame are also exceptional. The menu is always evolving and you really can't beat that they use all sustainably sourced seafood! 1000000% recommend. Hands down one of my favourite restaurants in San Diego for five years running.
Came here for a date night with my wife. Food was excellent as always and the ambiance was very romantic. Would definitely recommend to everyone!
Kind of expensive buy really good. Perfect for date night, just make sure to call ahead for a reservation as they get packed quickly.
Food was amazing... super busy...drinks never refilled... hot tea was cold and never refilled... I know it's about the food, but service is important too.
Very California, Very San Diego. They exchange several common sushi flavors for more sustainable options. My favorite picks? The RollsRoyce nigiri, Bumblebee roll, and anything on their specials board. They ran out of a lot of their specials at the end of the night, but it was sooo good. The green tea ice cream had cinnamon Graham crumbs, and it was unexpectedly tasty together.
The sushi is not ok. The sushi falls apart completely. because the chef doesn t tight the sushi.
However, the service is the totally the worse!! It takes for ever to get your food and the waitress is the slowest person I have ever met.
What do I suggest to eat for sure ? Shrimp tempura roll is a must have if you come here. It comes with two tempura shrimp avocado cucumber krab masago and topped with faux nagi sauce. You will want to eat your fingers after.
Great sushi, about 3-4 $. Went with my girl and her fam, had a blast!
Delicious! Been here a few times and keep going back, so now we're members of their rewards program. When we spend $200, we'll get a $20 gift card, among other promotions. Favorite roll is the delicious deep fried Bomb James Bond, and the sashimi is always delicious and melts in your mouth. Mmm...
Used to be much better when they had a DJ spinning in the corner and happy hour starting at 1030pm. Nowadays they close before I even leave the house. Prices went up some and the place needs better venting (you'll end up smelling like burned rice by the time you get home) but the Susi is still very good and the aquarium is always pleasant to look at. If I was to take ownership of this place I'd bring back the late-late night happy hour for sure.
Came here with a large group, everyone loved the choices and food.
I devoured a Crunch Roll and Goyza.
Good times.
Most authentic sushi in San Diego that I ve tasted, but with a unique Cali twist. A little pricey for what you get. Best to get there when they first open and enjoy happy hour!
Fantastic Sushi, and I really appreciate their commitment to sustainability. They also have outstanding vegetarian options.
All the food was awesome!!! Service lacked, but would definitely return on food alone.
the most delicious sushi i've ever tasted in the area. i would usually go to this place during the fridays after work with my office mates and we just drown ourselves with their spectacular food. :)
If you know - you know. Hands down the best Sushi spot in Dago. I love Harney.
Good sushi, try the Culichi roll, delish. Tried the Equinox, goes well with the spicy rolls. Service was good. Will come back when I return.
Absolutely the best sushi. Tried a variety of plates and they were all incredible. The Bomb James Bod and the Orange Crush were amazing. Flaing lips delicious. The peach saki was so smooth and yummy.
Fun location and loved the vibe inside but the sushi was just OK. Nothing amazing IMO although hubby loved what he ordered. I ordered a Mellow Yellow and (I think) it said it had mango. Neither I nor the other person at our table who ordered it could find any signs of mango in the roll. The server didn't bother asking how it was, so we didn't exactly have a chance to bring it up without complaining.
When we went they were doing a competition of rolls - my friend ordered the Air Jordan (I think that's what it was called) and it was ON POINT. Really good. The kids bento box was well sized and my son loved it!
Oh! And they don't have eel - their substitute for it was significantly more (as were most of their rolls) than I would have expected so we didn't try it. Not a deal breaker per say, but eel is one of my favorites!
With tons more sushi spots in SD, I probably wouldn't choose to go here again, but I also wouldn't protest if my family or group picked it.
Make sure that you make reservations! It'll assure you the best possible experience because this place gets real crowded, real fast! Fish is amazingly fresh and the rolls are meticulously made. Works of art almost. Definitely a must go for anyone that enjoys sushi.
Always an awesome experience! Great food and drinks, happy hour rocks too... Is my go to for visiting friends and family
Love this place! One of the best and freshest sushi in town
Um! Fresh fish, attentive servive, fair prices, imaginative rolls, and comfortable atmosphere.
I've been in twice so far by myself. Sat at the sushi bar. Everyone has been super nice and friendly. Rolls are good! The purple haze drink I had was good too. Definitely going back! Want to try dessert!
Well I've been coming for 8 years. Harney is great. The Castillo roll is a total gem to me. The sashmi and nigiri here is meh in my opinion, but what they do with specialty rolls makes them stand out (although 18-20$ specialty rolls is pretty high). Try the Castillo roll!
Best sushi in SD! Get a roll (or 3) and fruit infused sake to have a good night. Chicken Katsu is bomb too.
Really good sushi! Great ambiance! And our server was wonderful. He recommended a couple of sushi rolls and they were super good. Try the orange crush and the Chuck Norris rolls. So good!
How to do it right! Even getting lost going to the restroom is fun. The staff, the food, the atmosphere, across the board, thanks for a great experience!!!
Really quite excellent, if you like American style sushi, which tends to cover up their mediocre fish with sauces and other ingredients.
The rolls we had were really quite good.
The nigiri was not the best.
The sushi is delicious and the atmosphere is amazing!
The appetizer "Monkey Brain" was very good. The waitress kept me waiting a few times.
I went here tonight to get some sushi. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I walked in and told the two hostesses that I was alone. All the tables were full, so I asked to sit at the sushi bar. The one hostess said "I'm sorry, you can't sit there because we don't have any more menus. You can sit at the bar, and when we get a menu, you can move to the sushi bar." The sushi bar was completely empty, and they wouldn't let me sit there! I said, I don't understand the rule... why can't I just sit at the sushi bar, and whenever you get a menu, go ahead and bring it to me. They said no. What a joke, the hostesses are clueless. There is no excuse for not having any menus, how much money would it cost to print up a couple more menus?
Anyway, I went to sit at the bar, and the hostess told me that she would come get me when they got a menu. I sit down at the bar, and order a drink. And wait. And wait. The bartender ended up getting me a menu, which I couldn't read because it was too dark. The lighting is really questionable here, the seat I was in was somehow completely in the dark, even though the person to my right and left had plenty of light. Both hostesses completely forgot about me, and then seated other people with menus at the sushi bar. I waited maybe a half hour, then I left.
I am rating the restaurant as three star, because the sushi did look really good, but I don't want to give them my money for treating me terribly. And the bartender was really cool, and nice, and they have Sapporo beer on tap for only about three dollars. I'm not going to judge the quality of the sushi without trying it. Minus two stars for the two clueless hostesses! Harney Sushi, step your seating game up!
The place serves large dishes and for affordable pricing. super friendly staff. Keep up the good work.
The only thing you need to know is you must try the Bruce Lee.... MUST!
I absolutely hate mushrooms but love their mushroom starters. Good sushi and drink selection too.
Cheaze Eddammamies a fantastic $$ r a bit high tho
One of my preferred places for quality Sushi. similar to a place in denver i liked.
the food is great but I have no idea what the name means
A sushi bar in a corner of Old Town. After eating spider rolls, order the sea urchin at the current price. It was $ 25 for 5 items on this day, but it was sold out and only $ 10 for two .... I gave it to a companion who had never eaten a San Diego sea urchin. Sea urchins are recommended to order first without hesitation.
Sushi and service at this spot is great. filled me up. the service was very welcoming and observant. this place has many reviews for a reason.
One of my fav places for quality Sushi. Fell in love with this place from the 1st taste. Ambience reminds me of San Diego's scene.
Been here a few times...The food is better than it needs to be, which is a plus.
Absolutely one of the best sushi meals ever. There was a 45 minute wait to be seated but it was so worth the wait. We had clams, sashimi salad, nigri, hand rolls and cut rolls. The Spicy yellowtail hand rolls was fresh and delicious. Mellow yellow cut rolls was also spot on. The service was perfect. Keep up the good work Harney Sushi. We will see you again real soon.
