Way overpriced. Nigiri was two pieces and cost up and beyond $8. I have never seen oysters so small in my whole life, about the size of my fingernail yet each one cost $3. Absolutely ridiculous.

This is my favorite place for sushi! They don't carry it on the menu at this location but, if you ask for it they will make it and it's called the Chuck Norris Roll. That's all I'm gonna say when it comes to rolls here. All their rolls are great but, nothing is as great as The Chuck Norris Roll. Trust me it's all I can get when I come here for rolls. Although they have very inventive names, sauces and combos and their rolls are very fancy. I have also tried and love the miso soup with mushrooms added and their Happy Hour is great! They have a late night HH and the fried rice with egg on top is good, the rolls are discounted at a great price some of them and the rainbow roll is pretty darn good too!

Ok

First visit to check out the live music. Looks to be a popular spot. Small, but with a beautiful outdoor patio. Extensive menu with sushi, tempura and a bar with sake. Large parking lot just 2 blocks down the street, and a trolley station 2 more blocks.

Sushi was great, service was awful. We had a reservation booked and were told our table wasn't ready. Reservations were originally for 7:30pm, there was no food on the table until after 9pm.... After walking around Old Town burning over an hour- we finally were sat for dinner, only to be ignored by our waitress continuously. It felt like we had to ask for someone to come to our table for everything: to give us water, take our orders, and then to come take our bill so we could finally leave. Disappointing first experience when I have heard so many great things.

Where to start, well I guessthis place has been here for quite a while and I just never noticed it! But it's by far some of the best sashimi I've had stateside. It did have to wait (not long) to get Ian seat in although it looked fairly empty? There hosts, servers, and the chef where all very excellent, personable people with great upbeat attitudes and ready and willing to help with anything.
The food, ok didn't get a chance to try all of their off the wall named creations but I assure you they have fantastic sushi. They are a little pricey but lets face it sustainable restaurant, located in is an Diego yeaaa.
I will definitely be back to try the rest of the food!
On a side note. I was about in old town after dinner and after they closed, saw some of the staff and even outside of work thanked me for coming and asked if I enjoyed it. They have an amazing staff there.

Their atmosphere, service, decor, drinks, and food are all excellent. The rewards program is great and worth it even if you don't go often; it's free and you get a $15 off certificate plus a free Perfect Strawberry dessert for both your birthday and anniversary dates. You don't even have to spend anything beyond that. I come in thinking I won't, but usually do end up ordering more, because...it's so good. Fun place for a date night, good atmosphere for a business lunch, and great for a small group (up to maybe 8 with reservations).

This is by far the worst restaurant with the worst staff ever. I've never been treated like that in my entire life...First, we wait 1 hour just to get in. Once we are in, the food didn't arrive after 1.5 hours of waiting. After we inquired about the food, we got kicked out!!! The lady waitress who was african american and works there started arguing and shouting at us!!! She then called the chef who came, and started to argue and shout at us when we requested the bill, and to pay for the food that we only received. At the end the manager came, and she finally let us go. This is by far the worst restaurant with the worst customer service ever! Don't go there, it's not worth it... It's pathetic!

Really bland sushi for the high price. Or on the other end, doused with sauces to mask the taste of their bland fish. Was expecting amazing taste from the reviews, but now I see all the reviews were from the ambience, service, and drinks. Go elsewhere if you want good sushi, but stay for the drinks and service. It's really a waste of money if you spend it on the sushi.

It's perfectly fine sushi, but nothing special. Not worth the price for some things. Garlic edamame was delicious. But the service was pretty poor; clearly not trying very hard. Not rude or bad, just poor.

Their fish was fresh and their specialty rolls were amazing. For those that ordered a California roll and complained I would say that you missed the mark by not trying the specialty rolls. The black cod, salmon and seared tuna nagiri we're More

Local guide books said Harney's was moderately expensive. Well, dinner for two was over $100. I have to say that it was really good. I didn't go to any other sushi locations in the area, so maybe the guidebooks are right.

Delicious food, staff and mgmt ensured they could accommodate my gluten free needs. I sat at the bar (drinking not sushi) and had the candied albacore (nearly a religious moment), and another roll the chef and Eric created for me (!), edamame, and the winter mule cocktail (ok, two). The DJ and Eric took this from 5 stars to an epic 5+ stars by creating a positive energy for the entire dining experience. When in town again, I will return here.

call me a sushi snob but when you have lived only in Oahu and SD your entire life you know good sushi. Japengos was the go to place in all of san diego but since they closed we have been trying to find a replacement. Harney sushi is not it. Japengos was a tough act to follow and while harney sushi is not the worst it is far from the best. However the reason we won't be going back is the service. Hostess completely unenthusiastic (basically she looked like she would rather be anywhere but there on a friday night) and the bussers bring out all the food at the same time and just push everything around on the table while you are eating without so much as saying "excuse me." Their attitude is just like here is your food eat it all at once move your water and your drinks and your soy sauce out of my way-I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO. horrible service. With a tiny table there is no way to have all the plates, all the water all the drinks, all the ginger, all the soy sauce, wasabi etc there. Literally have gotten better service (LITERALLY) THROUGH THE DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW AT IN AND OUT. First and last time at harney sushi.

The sushi was great, and the atmosphere could have been awesome. The part that I didn't like was the life music was way too loud. I didn't mind that it was rap music, but it was impossible to have a conversation because the music was so loud. The service was excellent and consistent throughout our meal.

The most amazing sushi I've ever had in my life. Great vegan options. Impressive chef. I mean seriously impressive. Great atmosphere. This will now be a regular stop. Absolutely the best food I've had this year.

Sorry guys, I was not impressed.. tried to book a table , declined but walk in welcome , we took our chances unfortunately we got lucky..
Service bad , long wait , waiters not educated , like no one took empty plates back with them , we had to ask twice to clear up our table , the green tea was just hot water with tea bag, the soft drinks came to the table in cans, some of the rolls (tuna) we left since smelled not right .. I may have had to high expectations hence 3 stars ..

Great food and service, getting a reservation is ridicules. Basically, you could probably walk in any day or time and get a table....if you try to make a reservation, there probably will not be a table available. Let me put it this way, we tried to make a reservation a week ahead of time...nope, nothing available at 6pm. We go there at 5:45, get seated within minutes, and the whole time we were there, until we left, there were tables open....more than just a couple. I think for reservations, they only allow maybe 5 tables, after that, you have to walk in.

Going to start by saying I have never written a google review for a restaurant, but because of the terrible service we received I m making an exception. Really disappointed with Harney Sushi. Our waitress, Sarah, took at least 10 minutes to greet our table. Her lack of urgency and careless attitude was upsetting, especially because of how expensive the meal was. I ve been a server for almost ten years and I have never had a worse server. She also hovered while we signed the check. Incredibly unprofessional. Food was good, but the service almost wasn t worth it. Will not be returning.

The food is delicious. The sushi rolls are creative and have amazing flavor. Thier chicken katsu is my favorite of any japanese restaurant I've been to in SD. Its worth the wait to eat here.

Sushi and the setting here is excellent. Normally I would have posted a pic but food looked so good I couldn't stop. The service here is above par. This place has an awesome feel to it. Kinda of like a restaurant in Los Angeles I loved to visit.

If you find yourself in oldtown, the food is excellent and the service is in the top of it's class. This is a cozy restaurant with fair pricing and ideal quality. If you want to relax and have good food, eat here.

The sushi was good nothing to complain. It wasn't the best sushi that I tried, but the quality was good the place is nice the staff was friendly.. Nothing special in my opinion.. if you want to try different/modern sushi this is probably the place if you want more traditional sushi this is not the best...even thought the menu is not very big
