My mother is at The Crossings at Five Forks. The turnover rate is dizzying, they don t return calls, they ignore my mom s request for help. They just care about the exterior and looking nice but do not deliver the care she needs. We are looking elsewhere.

Update: We moved my mother out. We had a meeting with the executive director in which she denied knowing anything was wrong "This is the first I've heard of this"...(which was FALSE as over weeks I left multiple phone messages, stopped by, and sent emails, unable to find anyone). She accused my brother (who lives in Virginia) of not contacting her, yelling, "How come I never heard from you, where have you been!?", then called the police on me after I told her I was going to "incinerate the place" by reporting her to DHEC and Omsbudsman. She was told multiple times by multiple people exactly what I meant by the incineration comment, that she was being reported to proper senior advocacy authorities, and she still called the police.. After a brief conference with the police, in which I admitted I used inappropriate wording with "incinerate", but that the director knew EXACTLY what I meant (she has known me 10 months) I then met with the regional director out of Charleston who was much more professional and compassionate. I ended up requesting the executive director be removed from the meeting due to continued accusatory and lashing behaviors. They finally heard my concerns and issues I was having with my mother being ignored, waiting 1 hour in the dining room before she was even served water (!), not being able to find any nursing staff 9 times out of 10, and the call bell button not being answered for minimum 20 minutes. They said they would work on the issues. As of the day after the goal date (3/26) to install a call button at the nurses station, it still was not installed. We moved mom out 3/27 and have not communicated since. I've been told they have hired more new staff so there are a lot of new faces, but that is no guarantee the new employees will be staying either. My mother paid $6400+/mo for assisted living in a one bed one bath apartment with level 3 nursing care. Not Worth. It. We now have her at Brookdale and the difference is night and day (and cheaper). They answer the call bell in 3 minutes, they follow through on their commitments, I can find staff everywhere, and the residents are SO much happier than at The Crossings. A few other grievances: we repeatedly asked for therapy for my mom for 2 weeks prior to our decision to have her leave. They did not put the order in and the on the last day she was there they finally came in and offered therapy. No thanks. They also offer housekeeping for all residents at The Crossings. Mom's bathroom was often barely touched, especially the commode, and the two-staff crew would come in and do a quick dust and vacuum in less than 10 minutes every time (I watched them several times since August). It also came to my attention that a contractor of the place was very concerned with the lack of monitoring of the independent living residents. I would not know this personally as my mom was in assisted living (I *can* confirm monitoring in assisted was sketchy with residents falling and being unable to find staff). They told me it was the most negative place that they work. If you love your relative keep them away from The Crossings.

Harmony Senior Services Is a Wonderful Place, I have been employed with this company for 11 months now and counting and the care staff have so much love and compassion for our residents. I work in the columbia location what separates the Crossings and Harmony senior Services from the rest is We are not a "facility" We are a family and we come to work and take pride in what we do to make sure EVERY resident feels like they are right at home with us.

I responded to an invitation from The Crossings at Independence and attended the Neuropathy Relief seminar on November 21, 2017 which was advertised with a buffet lunch following the presentation. I was seated in the dining room and after waiting for over 30 minutes I was told that the buffet lunch was only for a private party. When I pointed out what they advertised and posted on social media I was approached by the director of maintenance and told to leave the premesis. I did not need their lunch and can certainly afford to buy my own, but I am
a man of principal. If this is the way prospective residents are treated I shudder to think what they have to put up with after signing on the dotted line !! JG

The upper management turnover is at such a high rate, there is no certain way stability can be achieved, when there have been 4-5 CEOs; 2-3 COOs and 2-3 CFOs in a timeframe of 4-5 years is all the facts needed to understand why the community turnover is around 150% annually. This is such an injustice for the hard working employees and seniors that reside in the communities. I suggest to research stability of a company before you make a life decision.
