Efficient Covid19 controls in place for outdoor dining. Food was great and hit the spot for lunch without dealing with the crowds at Sam's
How can anyone not enjoy a visit to the Half Moon Bay Brewing company? The Bay views alone will sweep you off of your feet!
It's located in a light use coastal waterfront area enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Either stay in a nearby hotel and walk or drive as there's ample close parking.
The Half Moon Brewing Company offers both a cozy indoor space along with inviting outdoor seating that you cannot help but enjoy daytime or nighttime.
I opted for bar seating. Due to there being only one bartender and visiting during an odd hour rush, I waited a little longer than to be expected for my order to be taken. However, after that, service time was spot on and I was very well taken care of and enjoyed the friendly and informative personalities of the employees.
I ordered their Calf-eine Coffee Milk Stout which was rich, creamy and roasty as the menu description indicated.
In no time at all, my crispy artichoke hearts with bleu cheese dressing for dipping arrived. This was a generous serving of beer battered artichokes that were perfectly prepared. Yeah, I devoured them!
Back to the beer menu. Full Swing, a west coast style IPA was next. I enjoyed this bitter, hoppy brew so much (and obviously so) that the bartender directed me to a cooler filled with take out bottles of their various craft beers. I greedily grabbed two big bottles of Full Swing IPA, paid my tab and exited with a big smile on my face.
Put our names in to be seated, they said 10 min 5 min ito the wait and a couple with a kid came in and asked how long and they said 10 to 15 min but then seated them right away.
The waitress kept looking outside instead of at us. Slow on refilling drinks.
I had the oysters and steak and it was the single best meal of my life
My border collie loved his doggie burger with bones for dessert!
Great night of classic rock with the Bonedrivers. Great selection of micro-brewed beers, fantastic dinner under heaters on the patio area. Just a perfect Saturday night out!
This is what they get for assuring me I would get a coke and then handing it to me and saying one Pepsi I asked for a coke not raw sewage
Beautiful scenery around, especially around sunset. Beer & food were pretty good. Service was good. They have live music and dancing in the bar often.
I can only rate the beer -- I really dig their HMB pilsner and have bought growlers of it for parties! I like that they have a patio and the bartenders are pretty responsive.
The Portuguese Fisherman' Stew is beyond delicious. Restaurants in Lisbon would be proud.
Half Moon Bay brewing company is a place a frecuent regularly. They have a lot of good things going. Patio protected from the wind. Heaters all around. Patio seating. Live music. Good beers. Full bar. Fresh food. Some things they don't meet my expectations are healthy food. Their prices are competitive, but not cheap. Good views. Today I was disappointed. Late greeting. Slow service. Things scattered around like old menus. Garbage on the floor. The ugliest window I can think of. It looks dirty. Smelly carpet. Worn out stuff. I may be back because my significant other likes half Moon Bay and therefore I like Half Moon Bay as well but Half Moon Bay brewing company doesn't meet my expectations.
Great brewpub with a cool selection of craft ales available. The entrance is accessible and there is accessible parking. Locals tip, you can walk right past the line if you want to use the open no service tables within the bar or out back in the small beer garden. The line is for the full service restaurant. I enjoyed my time here with friends. The pub has a good ambience and the brews are fantastic. Also enjoyed the calamari basket which was big enough for three of us to share while drinking beer. The bathrooms are not accessible and are traditional male/female. #letsguide
Refused service for a person in a wheelchair with her small service dog,
The manager Craig Carrol was extremely rude.
Asked to leave after showing him the service dog ID tag!
This restaurant is not ADA or service dog friendly,
Super nice and accommodating for a private party. Great snacks, good beer and a great view of the bay.
Great service and delicious food. All staff was great.
Delicious food, appropriate portions for what you pay, amazing happy hour! Seriously. Check out the happy hour.
Lovely place with a great vibe and great service. You are spoilt for choice with the selection of seasonal and rotating taps they have. They do growlers and crowlers as well - if you are the designated driver and want to try more than just 1 pint.
the wait was bad. it was a 30 minute wait for a table for two. And then as our time came to sit, every party of two was instantly dropped from que, including ours We got seated right next to the street facing the sun at around 1:30. The service was downright awful. one of us got our beer before appetizers, water awful the second beer came after appetizer. Beer was way over-carbed and watery. A stout should not be ass watery as an ipa. the fish tacos were amazing. The fish and chips were ok. Won't be going back, not even for the amazing fish tacos. Seriously , they were the only reason why I gave this 2 stars.
World class clam chowder and good selection of micro brews. Outdoors seating around a firepit in good weather. Parking can be a challenge.
Had the worst service ever at the bar/lounge area. Won't even go in to the details. Not worth my time.
Beers were good. Socially distanced out side for dinner but they had plenty of portable heaters so it was comfortable.
Had lunch here with a small group. Location is nice as there seems to be more parking than most of the other locations especially out on the highway. Location has a nice day view. Food was good with generous portions, although it was a bit pricey for a lunch spot with most offerings ranging from 12-20+. Place gets pretty busy but seems to be lots of room with a nice large outdoor patio.
The location is fantastic, with great views of the bay. The beer is good too. But the food is mediocre, at best, and the sevice is poor and unfriendly. For some reason, there is always a line here, so this place doesn't need to try hard, and it shows. Do yourself a favor: avoid the line and go somewhere else.
Great service, great food and wonderful environment
Recommended by our hotelier, a great little spot for a good brew and a menu for hat has something for everyone. Dining by the water on the outside patio with fire pit, inside bar/lounge with fireplace or dining room with ocean breakers outside. Good recommendation!
Food was good, nothing amazing. Service is great though and loved the multiple fire pits.
Clam chowder was luke warm, bloody mary looked and tasted like a cheap bar drink, and not what you would expect for a 50.00 tab. Disappointed!
The was my first time visiting the place. My friends and I sat on the patio, and the scenic view was awesome. The Garlic Cheesy sourdough Bread and Fish&Chips were amazing.
Sticky, wobbly table. Lack of attention to sanitation details. This was once a great brewpub, now suffering disrepair and neglect.
HMB brewing has a beer for most people. The view from the patio is is nice and relaxing during a cool sunny day.
By far the worst service I have ever had in the past 10years. Half moon bay brewing company is forever on the boycott. If this was the last place on earth to eat I d die of starvation before I got any food. Avoid at all cost.
This restaurant's fried shrimp and fried fish and squid rolls are delicious, very close to the beach. There are many tables outside the hotel, you can enjoy the food while watching the sea.
Great food and beer, they just need a better/ bigger parking lot
Good tacos...live tunes cheesy lounge feel. But real!
Good food and they allow dogs on the patio! This is a great place to start or end your day in half moon bay especially if you're going to bring your dog along!
Excellent food & dogs are welcome!
This place is amazing. They both have an indoor and outdoor area which is very popular among locals and dog owners such as myself. The staff here are super dog friendly, and they even provided my dog "Jackson Louie' his very own water bowl.
Their outdoor area is provided with an outdoor heater so you can enjoy the view year round. The view is amazing over looking the Pacific Ocean. We were here for brunch and I can only imagine it can get packed for dinner! If you are a dog owner - you are welcome to bring them with you.
Tips:
-- sit outside to enjoy the fantastic view
-- order their excellent homemade brewed beers. I recommend their Chocolate beer.
-- try their "Beermisu" dessert. It will knock your socks off. It was fantastic.
-- weekend brunch is the best time to dine in (11-3PM)
Cheers! :p
So expensive, service and atmosphere were good. Food was okay, but I wish there were more portions. I asked for a medium burger, but the burger was well done.
Out doors is best with the view. Food is wxcellent pub style.
Party of three dining outside. The weather was wonderful. The food however was very disappointing. I had the fish and chips and a cup of chowder. The food took 35-40 minutes to arrive. The waiter came by three different times apologizing for the wait saying it was almost ready. A couple who arrived 10 minutes after us got their order 10 minutes before our food arrived. They too had the fish and chips!!! My fish and chips were dripping with grease and left a puddle on the plate.....disgusting. They had obviously been dropped in oil again to heat them up. Our server never asked once how our food was....he knew it was bad. The fish and chips were so oily that the overhead sun was reflecting light everywhere. The table neighbors fried food was not shiny or oily. The clam chowder was fair but a bit light on clam. On a side note, this is the first time I have ever been compelled to pen an online review.
Nice location, but the food we had was only average. Really dry chicken on a Caesar salad and the fish and chips were overdone and pretty greasy. The service at the bar was good. Food seems to be overpriced.
I have been to this place 2 times. The first time there service was great the second was terrible. The server will make it or break it. The food both times was great, once we got it the 2nd time. They forgot to submit it on our 2nd trip and we questioned why everyone that came after us with more people and food got their food first. But we got it and ate the yummy cod tacos and Cesar salad. The lemonade was perfect, not too sweet and not to sour. My friend loves the wine they serve. The price is good for what you get. Love eating outside with the fire pits.
Food was fair, if you order the crab you will be disappointed so maybe stick to bar food. The craft brews are decent, good selection of IPAs, pilsners and brown ales. If you book with open table make sure you check to see that they credit you-this restaurant is notorious for cancelling the reservation and not awarding the points.
Great place with excellent outdoor seating. Love the bar area and the happy hour menu. Cool selection of a variety of onsite brewed beer.
Great people, good weather, good food and brews at good prices
A perfect spot for a casual meal out and about in Half Moon Bay. With fire pits and an awesome band (Rock the Heat) playing inside, Half Moon Bay Brewery is a great spot to enjoy a meal and a beer during the day and evening. Would also highly recommend the Fisherman's Stew - it's hearty and warm; perfect for a chilly coastal evening.
Absolutely delicious brews and food! I don't really care for fish typically, but their fish tacos were amazing! Very friendly staff as well, with a view of the bay while you dine outside.
What a great find. Here during COVID and social distancing, and these guys have it down. Beer while you wait, page you when ready, and dog friendly. SOLD!
We had fried choke hearts and garlic bread, both were incredible.
I had fish and chips. They were probably second best ever! Fresh fish and a nice light battering. The fries were also slightly battered as well. Highly recommended spot for a weekend getaway. It was day before July 4th and we had about an hour wait. We'll worth it!
When they say 9pm, what they mean is 8ish, or whenever they decide to close. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We showed up at 8:15 and we told they closed.
No coffee stout. I was devastated. Apparently it came out too cloudy to serve.
The seafood was so fresh and delicious!! The Parmesan fried were amazing!! The beer...so so. But the atmosphere and views make it so worth while. Go! You wont be disappointed!
The food was good, the view was Amazing, that's were it ends. I had the fish and chips and Clam Chowder and a friend had the Dungeness crab sandwich and they were worth every penny of the semi over priced menu.... the food was great just a bit overpriced. Seems like you're paying more for the view then you are the food and beer. Beer at the brewery was average at best. Damn shame as I expected more from them. The food is worth going back for, the beer...not so much.
The food was great as usual. I had the sea food platter and the wife had the prawns. The service was a little slow this visit. This is not the norm. Still a great place to eat. I will be going back again.
After calling twice during the week to confirm that the restaurant was dog friendly and can accommodate our large group, they basically forced us to cancel our reservation an hour before arrival due to rain that day. To be fair, the 2 male staffs I spoke to during the weekday were very nice. The female staff that called me an hour before our reservation time, while we were already on our way there, acted as if she wanted us to cancel our reservation - telling us their patio wasn't open and they don't allow dogs in the restaurant. But we can sit outside in the rain and order their food to-go, they just won't provide any service since their patio was closed that day.
I decided to call Flavor Restaurant instead (right by the HMB Brewing Company) and they were a lot more accommodating. I called the Brewing Company back to cancel our reservation and the same girl excitedly answered, "OK". Everything worked out in the end because the staffs at Flavor were AMAZING and brought out umbrellas and lit the fireplaces for us in their patio area - not to mention their food was delicious. So I guess, thanks rude girl at the Brewing Company, because you made us check out Flavor Restaurant and now we're fans. Definitely recommend for visitors to Half Moon Bay to check out Flavor and just skip the other restaurants in the area.
In short, this is an amazing location for a brewery. Yet, their staff is the shortfall... a shoulder length blond was the downfall. Apparently, she s the floor manager for the outdoor seating area. I single her out only for one reason... a chain is only as strong as it s weakest link. She was condescending when we sat down, was talking trash to the other staff, and ultimately cost the establishment our business. My party of 12 walked out. It was disappointing to wait 1/2 hour to be seated, but I refuse to patronize an establishment that minimizes customer service. We went to Hop Dogma Brewery and had a much better experience. I d avoid this place for sake of sanity.
Just an average night, having a couple drinks at the bar, as we finished our last drink and tried to be responsible and asked for a to-go water before we left, suddenly got a third degree stare. Bartender whispered and pointed towards us as we finished our drinks. Too weird.
Great service, food is amazing definitely try the grilled artichokes, long list of local beers.
So, as everyone struggles to emerge from this pandemic, it's nice to see that there are places like this that have worked hard to incorporate safe practices at their business. In fact, I was told that they reopened in May, so that was a surprise.
When you go, be prepared for a wait to be seated. They don't do reservations ahead of time....you have to show up. They text you when your table is 10 minutes from being available, so you probably shouldn't stray too far!
The food? Fish and chips were awesome. The beer? We got a couple of 4 oz samplers each, giving us a good idea of what to order as a 32 oz. can to-go. We went on a hot Sunday afternoon, so trekking from the East Bay (where it's hotter) was a welcome break. Sitting by the beach....very pleasant!
Great location, friendly staff and tasty food. Make sure to order some kind of seafood, that's a must here. Fish tacos or shrimp linguini is just yum! And of course, have a beer.
Super dog friendly and always a stop we make before our day's hike. The large patio is great for our golden retriever and she loves when we order the doggie burger patty. They bring a dog bowl with water too.
The in-house brewed beer is always on point and made even more enjoyable with great weather and views of the coast. The marina and small inlet is viewable from the patio. We've never encountered a significant wait, but it's just across the street and a nice place to chill. Stick with beer and a fish-based entree. Some of the vanilla options (e.g. chicken sandwich) aren't out of the ordinary.
The fish tacos were great and they did a good job providing outdoor seating with good covid-19 safety protocols. The wait was long for dine-in so we did take out and tailgated.
Really good selection of beers, cozy atmosphere and great service!
Excellent location, great beer selection. The outdoor seating is pretty nice.
somewhat expensive for mediocre food, mediocre beer, mediocre service, difficult parking. Nice location and outdoor seating. Frozen french fries, soggy and greasy fish and chips
Friendly and quick service, great and delicious food. Sadly could not try the beer (driver), but friends I was with there assured me it was good.
Great patio and oysters but calamari was wicked overcooked and truffle fries were very greasy. Definitely go here for the view of the ocean and not the food.
Fish Taco's delicious as well as the Beer Batter Artichoke Hearts! Great Service!!!!
Great view, tasty food, generous portions, friendly and talked atmosphere, what else should you want?
Great location and lots of activity all around. I will keep this area in my report.
