9:18pm. I am a disabled veteran with a verified breathing disorder, along with another verified diagnosis, whom after disclosing I had a medical condition (approx. 8:30pm, Friday evening) was told I needed to wear a mask to shop there, and after explaining I could not wear a mask due to having a medical condition, was told that I still needed a mask. So I asked a clarifying question to the associate who approached me "Are you saying that I still need to wear a mask to shop here, even though I have a medical condition that prevents me from wearing one?" She said "yes". At that point I was really really close to leaving my cart and walking out, and letting her deal with putting back all my groceries. Instead I turned to leave and tell my family we had to leave before finishing our shopping, when this same associate called out to my wife telling her she"needs a mask to shop here" So when approached, my wife also calmly told this associate that she had a medical condition that prevents her from wearing a mask. Had additionally to explain that we had shopped at other Haggen stores without "needing a mask"...and only then did this associate back off and let us finish our trip...not very happy about this encounter.

*3:03am adding more detail* Additionally: I am unable to fall back asleep due to my previous encounter. The night managers name was Carley and apparently she was the one who told me to wear a mask. I was not aware that she was the manager when approached, so after leaving, I called the store to ask a manager about thier policy on medical conditions as it pertains to mask wearing and shopping. She(Carley) told me that the policy was to urge everyone to wear a mask, and if they don't, help them get through the store as quickly as possible while more or less distancing them from others. I told her that what I was hearing over the phone was different than what I had experienced in the store. After explaining my experience, she told me that it was her whom I had encountered while at the store, and that I had remembered the situation incorrectly. She did not clarify what her intent was and simply stated she was sorry I felt the way I did. She did not apologise for aggressiveness, nor did she take responsibility for her actions...
I have spent many years paying close attention to detail specifically attempting to understand intent, and asking clarifying questions if I don't understand...now I ask if this isn't discrimination, then somebody explain to me what is. Needless to say, we have not experienced this type of rudeness in other Haggen stores we have shopped at prior.
So what is the lesson? Because apparently, a college educated, fully disabled Veteran with 7 years of honorable service doesn't understand this. We will do our best to NOT return to this specific location.

*3:03am, Sat. Morning* Additionally: unable to sleep, I am still processing the encounter, so i am adding more detail on my encounter. I wanted to say thank you Carly and thank you Haggen for not only badgering myself, but my wife as well. Who, btw, happens to have a completely different diagnoses from a completely separate life event, that prevents her from having anything block her airway, who was also told that she "needs to have a mask on to shop here". Tell me Haggen managers, it it SOP to ask a customer if they are able to wear a mask while in the store?, Or is it SOP to tell everyone they "need a mask" whether or not they can wear one? Is it policy to treat everyone like they are lying? ...as if people can't see it and are somehow unaware of the situation? If it is a law, then I should be arrested for having a medical condition, if it is a mandate, then I should be given a reprieve right? And offered assistance... Not as if I am somehow infected or defective or contagious... even though most everyone else is protected with their own masks.
Three words Haggen: compassion, patience, and trustworthiness...three things we did not experience at this location. 4:13am.

This is a great grocery store with very friendly workers. The location is nice since it is so close to WWU. The deli food is amazingly wonderful especially the jojo's!

I live up the hill from Hagens since 2012 and have shopped there alot. The saff is awesome, a little high on some items but it wouldn't stop me from shopping there.

Solid store but needs more vegab options in deli area.

Great grocery and good selection of items. Sad that it's no longer locally owned, but glad to say that customer service is still top notch.

I almost exclusively do my grocery shopping at Haggen. Their store is a bit more expensive, however their store brand items are far superior to other stores. I also appreciate the atmosphere of the store, it's well laid out and I never really find it to be too crowded.

Haggen Chinese is always great. I love their General Tso.

Haggen can always be counted on for a great selection of whatever you are looking for. Also a great place to go if you are in need of a quick bite to eat or just don't feel like cooking. I have never left a Haggen not satisfied with my experience.

Great deli and prepared food, grocery prices are higher and produce quality is average.

The florist here has some nice bouquets. always like seeing them and grabbing one when I can.

I don't normally shop here but are high quality items available and specialty items for the picky/sensitive persons!

My favorite grocery chain in Bellingham. Upscale, but still good prices. Extensive selection, especially for local/regional products. And I love their beer & wine selection!

Haggen used to be a great place to buy quality, fresh food, which you pay the price for. Several times in the last few months though, I have bought bad wraps from their deli section. For $5.99 I expect better quality. Today, the wrap was a day past the sell by date, so it should have been taken off the shelf. I noticed it in the flavor of the chicken and other dairy ingredients, and couldn t stand the extremely saturated tortilla. Threw it out after 2 bites because I didn t have time to go back or get anything elsewhere. In the past, I have pulled pieces of plastic from the packing containers out of the center of my wrap and had previous wraps that I threw away because they were old. Since the buyout, Haggen quality has decreased while prices have decreased. I used to love their cookies, they were soft and buttery, but now they are hard and dry. Cutting Haggen out of my lunch options for sure, I would much prefer to spend less for quality and freshness.

As always a really nice place of business to return to.they sell great meat there. They have wonderful customer service as well.

Little overpriced, but this chain is basically akin to Whole Foods or New Seasons, so it was expected. Saw Ryan Stiles! (Whos Line is it Anyway). I understand he frequent's this Haggen quite a bit. The place has a good selection of food, drink, lots more. Their sushi is substandard however, and way to pricey for what you get. All in all, I like the place, but there are a lot better options for the exact same stuff around town.

At one point Haggen was the best grocer in Bellingham. Now it's owned by Albertsons and it kinda reminds me of an overpriced version of every other grocery store in town.

Service had generally declined and the process are bad, but the Chinese food is good.

Great cafeteria. I usually get the chow mein from the Asian food section and fried drumsticks from their deli (good price) and eat in their large, clean dining atea.

Everything is expensive and nothing really stands out as special. The deli has dry food that could use more flavoring...

Haggen at Sehome is Wonderful Everyone is Friendly and Helpful

I went there at 4am. The meats were all bad and apples had fungus. I had a cart but the only thing I had on my cart was a coffee. The mid age woman who worked at the checkout was extremely rude. I'm still so shocked how rude she was..

Loved the selections, organization of the store, and customer service. We only wish there were a Haggen Food in Spokane WA!

Great place to get the essentials. We love getting the cheap cheeses. The hot lunches are good too. Service is always excellent.

A lot of money to pay for ambience because the food is a lot more expensive than other grocery stores that carry the same brands and inventory. Has gone completely downhill after being sold out of the Haggen family

Everyone here locally has either been to Haggens or always goes there. It's a great store for those looking for good food at a good price.

I love my Sehome Haggen and have shopped there for 25 years. Before that I shopped at the Meridian store for 12 years

A little overpriced but good quality and large selection. Also has a mini food court.

Prices are a tad bit high, but it's still a good place to shop. I wouldn't do my weekly shopping here, but I like to get specialty items here. Especially their bakery!

Heggen deli salads are a must have, The freshness and variety is amazing, They literally got something for everybody, also Everyone should try the Twin Brook Creamery Chocolate Milk, and the Ellenos Marion Berry Greek yogurt, also the best Regular Milk is Edaleen Dairy milk all great and all at your local Haggen

Most of their items are overpriced compared to other grocery stores on the area. My 3 star rating is based on the fact that they have products and items other stores dont, otherwise my rating would have been lower.
