Yummy sandwiches and cool atmosphere. Outside seating with vines and plants, and umbrellas for shade. Fun local hang-out. The lines can get long at lunchtime, since it is a popular place.

Thank you Gus for a nice sandwich and a beautiful patio. Gus's grocery has changed only tiny bit over the last 40 years. It is always been a little stop out there on Oso Street, and the outdoor patio is a wonderful wonderful addition. I think it's the Gus version of a beer garden. How that can be pretty handy on a warm afternoon, especially a Friday or Saturday afternoon. The sandwich just was okay didn't really get me excited, but I will say everything was fresh and good handled politely delivered outside on the patio to us and we ate every bite. So stop by for a sandwich and enjoy the patio, and whatever you want to drink. Another good choice, personally I'm off to High Street

Just rolled into town and was recommended that we go to Gus's! Had their specialty sandwich of the day. BBQ..something..don't quite remember. It was good! Not great, but it was good! It looked pretty flat but the taste was there.

Gus' has changed so much since I was younger (I'm local and recently moved back to town).

I ordered a Hot Pastrami on a toasted french roll with cheese. What I got was a cold corned beef sandwich on an untoasted, cold french roll. I didn't notice until I got home or I would have definitely taken it back!

When I was young I worked downtown SLO at the United Meat Market so I know the difference between corned beef and Pastrami.

I very rarely eat anywhere but home because I'm older and on a fixed income now and this was going to be a big treat for me.

Sorry to say, Gus' won't have any more of my business, and I will not recommend them, either.

There are many good delis in SLO, and this is one of them. Good meats and cheese, fresh bread, and a good selection of cold beers is what I like about Gus. TIP: avoid the Poly crowds by calling in your order and then eating at a park instead of their small outdoor patio (which is not a bad option either!)

The lady was extremely rude when I came to pick up my food. My burrito did not come with sour cream even though I ordered it, it was marked on the slip, and I was charged for it. This is the second time this has happened to me. Will not be coming back.

Only had one sandwich on my way back home to the Bay Area. Hence the 4 stars. Not enough visits . Had roast beef with mayo, sprouts, tomato and lettuce on whole wheat. Absolutely delicious and worth returning to. Add a full bag of Fritos $1.89, and a bottle of Dr. Pepper and the total was $14 95. They have a wide selection of drinks and it is a small grocery. They have other types of specialty sandwiches and they had at least one soup of the day.

It was super busy because it's almost 100 degrees outside. The employees are such hard workers and have a lot of poise whe dealing with rude customers. Despite having a huge amount of orders to fill, they got mine down perfectly.

We were regulars here from about 1992-1997 and we stop in without fail every time we are in SLO. In our opinion this is the best sandwich shop anywhere. It s a combination of a great sandwich, awesome location, sunshine, good beer, and all the fixins. My kid grew up in Gus s t-shirts and is applying to Cal Poly for fall of 2021. If he ends up going our investment will come with a Gus s meal plan. The best.

We lived within walking distance of Gus's for years and it has been a favorite of ours since the first visit. The sandwiches are very high quality, I would say this is the best sandwich shop on the Central Coast.
They have a nice outside patio and the beer selection is good. Sitting outside with friends on a sunny afternoon sharing a beer at Gus's is a simple pleasure. Great neighborhood Deli and beer garden.

I got the chicken tender sandwich and it was pretty darn tasty even if it wasn't the prettiest or healthiest. They really go with a laid back honor system and the customers can be disorganized when making space to write down their orders on the paper slips before going up to the cashier. The outdoor seating area is simple and plenty. The sandwiches are pricey for the amount you get but I love how many types of chips and beer they have too!

Sandwhiches are actually decent but the place is run very poorly. Hour long waits for a sandwhich, inaccurate hours on Google. Tonight i got there at 6:30 and its locked when google says they are open till 7:30. One time I ordered the chicken bbq sandwhich and after I had paid they told me they were out of chicken. I asked for a refund, they didnt refund me the entire amount, the cashier told me they cant refund tips. I said I wasn't going to tip when I didn't get anything. With annoyance she pulled money out of tip jar to give to me.

I have not been at Gus's Grocery in some time... the rumor is that the quality had dropped.... let me assure you, it had not. The sandwich that I ordered was fantastic, but price reasonable, the service quick and polite. Great place to relive memories with old friends!

Quite possibly the best sandwich I've ever had. I was introduced to Gus's on a vacation a while back, since then... I dream of those sultry sandwiches - the goodness haunts me, the sandwiches, they call to me, the know me.

It's the same story each visit - Like an addict, I can't resist the call, the itch. "I'll just save the second half for dinner later" I say as I order my full sandwich, the staff knows, they just shake their heads as if to say "she'll never learn."

The allure is in the custom turkey sandwich... my weakness, my desire, it senses my arrival and knows I can't resist those sweet sweet whole wheat buns. We retreat to the patio setting, find a table in the shade, my sandwich likes the shade It starts with one innocent bite - then euphoria sets in, everything gets cloudy, dark, peaceful, the sounds of birds fade and all gets quiet.

Suddenly I wake up covered in bread crumbs and olive oil, there's a smudge of mustard on my cheek. I rub my eyes willing them to focus, "what happened? Where is my sandwich?" My eyes focus to the carnage around me - "No! Not again!" The only evidence of our moment of passion lies in a discarded wrapper at my feet, and a small olive oil stain on my blouse, I wreak of condiments and shame... I hang my head and retreat to my car as quickly as my newly bloated walrus-esque body can muster. The regret is 100% worth it. See you tomorrow Gus's.

This is a hidden gem! I can't believe I've driven through SLO so many times and have never stopped here. Not only do they have fresh sandwiches made to order, fresh ingredients but their garlic cheese really got me.

And really, really delicious!
Ordered it with "everything"
All the condiments!

Sandwiches are of solid quality, but the flavor combinations are of course subjective. Woman at the register can be snippy. Sandwich makers are uniformly friendly. Good selection of beers in the case, but a lack of pricing labels. Outside seating area is nice, and parking's not generally difficult, especially if you can use the 15 min zone in front for take out orders.
There are a lot of similar sandwich shops in SLO. Good idea to compare this with High St. Deli to see which matches you the best.

Best sandwiches and beer selection in central California. They have kick ass Egg Burritos also. Lots of people there to take your order. People are friendly and fast. They have a great patio also. Whenever the wife and I are driving through SLO, we stop here to get a tri-tip sandwich with horseradish mayo. Great selection of local beers. I'm getting hungry thinking about that sandwich now.

Best deli sandwiches ever! We ALWAYS stop at Gus' in San Luis Obispo when we go to the central coast. Can't be within a 50 mile radius and NOT get a sandwhich to eat on their little patio.

Not sure how this place has as many stars as it does. It was an incredibly long wait, the staff were not friendly and seemed unprofessional, and the place was dingy. Absolutely do not recommend.
