This place is very informative and interesting. Everyone is nice and it's clean.

I went to Guedelon over 10 years ago. Today I took my little girl there, delighted to see all this work. When she saw the stonemason, no! he will not do everything by hand! there is a lot !! I congratulate all his people who are involved in this adventure. WELL DONE !!!

Superb outing to do with family. We find a lot of trades of the time and we can ask all kinds of questions, artisans always have the answers. The castle under construction is really nice to visit. It is possible to make guided tours and you can book activities for children too. The only little black spot that does not detract from the quality of this site is the part of the restaurants. The price is a bit expensive and the bread sandwiches a bit dry. In any case I recommend for all those interested in the Middle Ages and even others. A very informative outing where we do not get bored.

I have been coming to Guedelon since 2002, and what a joy each time. The site is exceptionally beautiful, the workers are passionate and fascinating people. It is a truly inspiring process and work. You can spend 2 hours or a week there as there is so much to see, learn and understand. In our family, this has fascinated all generations.
It's a unique place, and it's worth a trip!

Castle under construction since 1997 only with tools and techniques of the 13th century based on experimental archeology.

Plan a big half day for the guided tour, visit the castle, see the many workshops but also and especially the animation of the druid / magician / alchemist.

We had a great day in a superb place .... to see a real castle built in the old way is really great ...

To do absolutely. We dive into the 13th century and it's really interesting. What madness of a man at the start to arrive at such a crazy and surprising result.

Not recommended for wheelchairs! Absurd you have to be 80% disabled to benefit from the disabled rate, except that at this stage you pay to see nothing.

We had visited the site ten years ago, it has evolved a lot, the site has become much more touristy, apparently the village part has just been created, it will ask to be rampart now we are walking in plowing.

A place to see! Very interesting, places arranged for the picnic, perfect to spend the day there. Just a little disappointed because I had come at least 15 years ago and I expected the construction to have progressed more during all this time ... But hey we agree that the interest lies more in construction techniques than in the finished result.

Seeing the construction of a castle with the means of the time shows us that we are currently in a system of extreme consumption.

A journey in the phenomenal time .. the site is very rich in history .. the artisans are very nice like our young guide Flora .. pity that it is not the same at home as at the restaurant .. however the whole does not is still worth 14 ...

Absolutely beautiful and very interesting. Well received by the staff, and we feel that artisans are really passionate about their trades. All have always answered questions correctly. thank you

A beautiful and informative place! How to guess how one built at the time? They have learned it and show us what they know. Differs a lot from other castles for this fact!

Extremely recommended, you can easily spend 4-5 hours chatting with the artisans and strolling in the small village

To discover very interesting on construction techniques

I have been at least three times and will stay there again. It is always very interesting, fabulous and very educational to see them work, perpetuate ancestral methods. How to break a rock without big machines, what are the dye plants, how to make ropes ... The ancients were creators! Today, in the 21st century, we are only users of tools that we do not even know how it works.
A place to visit absolutely to refocus on the essential or quite simply to say that before machines there were brains that worked.

A very charming place. The evolution is considerable! The idea and the concept are great, we can see people working (stonemasons, carpenters, etc.). Several workshops are available for children (additional cost). Picnic area available + catering if needed. Clean toilets + Dry toilets. It is possible to access the mill by a very beautiful forest path after the animals (donkeys, horses, pigs, sheep). To see with the castle of St Fargeau + show a few km away

The construction is progressing well, the work is well done and we feel the motivation and the pleasure that the workers have to participate in this beautiful project! Not to mention the various workshops to do with family!
And the little show of alchemy is worth the detour.

This building which rises in the sky is indeed of the 21st century.
Fantastic work by construction workers who create a 13th century castle in the middle of the 21st century, without the slightest modern machine. And without electricity.
Everything is built according to medieval methods. Until the costumes which are connected with the Middle Ages. A real journey through time, far from tablets and smartphones, in the era of truth, effort and sweat. To visit, knowing that the site sees visits. They are in no hurry to finish (starting in 1996) because the goal is to demonstrate the techniques of the time.

It had been a few years since I had come, the accommodation was only ending. The castle is progressing well and the discovery of the trades, the village and the flour mill is a real pleasure. You will have the opportunity to have the trades explained to you by the "workers" who work on the site with the materials dedicated to the construction of this magnificent medieval castle.

On the site, the speech seems to relate to the covid. But once there, the hydro alcoholic gel points are empty. And many touched it to get it.
And we could only see the colors and the string. Everything else was closed or we were ignored.

They are crazy these Gallic! More seriously, I would have liked more explanations from artisans. That said, I did not participate in the guided tour ...

Great visit with the guide! Very nice with little anecdotes! The exchange between visitors and him was very dynamic! For children, parents, teens, couples ... Everyone appreciates! You will have to go back there in 5 years to see the evolution!

excellent, I love it. All ages are welcomed as it should be through manual workshops, the castle itself is just as impressing. The guided tour is very animated and the artisans are very nice. I advise you to get places.

It is a magnificent place, the craftsmen are passionate. Discovering these ancestral working techniques was really very interesting.

Visit the magnificent castle and the "park" in which we can see the various workshop houses of the trades present. In addition, children can participate in stone cutting workshops, small knights and others.

I've seen ne documentary / report on TV. Is definitely worth seeing! But unfortunately I have not been there myself.

If you like castles, who are interested in the Middle Ages, who are interested in architecture, crafts, the history of Central Europe or France, who are interested in the life of our ancestors, you should definitely take a look at this impressive project.
There is something for everyone, for the whole family or for one alone.
We spent the whole day there, saw a lot, learned and experienced a lot, enjoyed the day very much. You do not have to be able to speak French to know everything important, who can plan your visit, should book a tour in his language and order a family pass on the internet, as this is not possible on the spot.

Mixed view: guided tour where you can not hear the guide, the workers who do not answer questions, ... On the other hand, the camp of the small knights was very appreciated by our 2 knights and the chief of the knights put all the world in the mood.

Very interesting. For children as for adults. Many shady paths. We did not feel the crowd despite the impressive number of people at the entrance. We ate there. Very good value for money. Local and organic products in addition. The stone cut workshop was excellent. My five and a half year old daughter still needed a helping hand. The only downside for me is the lack of shade in the parking lot. In summer the return to the car is hot. To do. And surely to do again to see the evolution in a few years.

This site is extraordinary because of this grain of madness that has pushed an association of volunteers to create from scratch a castle with the standards of the Middle Ages and also, this handful of craftsmen who work there since 1998, when the project was born on paper, because know well, that this magnificent construction is part of a virgin soil. The idea is rather original, surprising, I would admit, but so beautiful humanly, because to gather as many enthusiasts on the same project, it's great! Good job guys !

This is an amazing place... seeing the construction of a medieval castle in real time , using original techniques. You see the stonemasons, carpenters, tile makers, potters, dye makers etc all at work, and aside from the safety boots, all is as it would have been centuries ago. The guided tour, available in various languages, is incredibly useful and informative... also a bargain at only 3 Euros!
