Great Northern Hotel Review

Just spent 3 days here with my two son's. What a beautiful hotel and location was great, a short walk into the town, beautiful cliff walk
taking in the spetacular scenry. Staff very friendly, room was very spacious and decor was lovely. Breakfast was very nice . We ate in the bar, again food was great. Plenty to do for kid's, pool was a favourite for us..something for everyone if you fancy a workout in the gym or pampering in the salon. Definitely have a return trip.

Have never visited this area before but it's truly wonderful. Stayed here for 2 nights, and the rooms were lavish and comfortable. Their Resturant service is fab too! Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Great spot. Old fashioned charm. We got a junior suite..loved it. Amanada on reception made our break all the better.

This place is a joke! How it can say it has four stars I do not know.

The room wasn t clean, the shower door was falling off its hinges, the shower was a warm trickle at best, the electrics didn t work and there was no hair dryer. To top it all the walls are paper thin and the room was uncomfortably warm with no way to cool it. I asked for a fan and was told that they were all locked away for the night.

Thankfully we only stayed one night but needless to say I will never be back. The only positive was the polite and helpful reception staff but aside from that it was very disappointing.

I am here for 1 more night so far a lovely hotel the people employed there are beyond nice and helpful cannot say enough about their staff would highly recommend this hotel

We had our wedding here on New year's day 2020. Karen and her team were fantastic in every way from the planning to the details on the day. Our families stayed for 3 days in the hotel and we couldn't fault the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Rooms were fabulous and meals were sumptuous. Highly recommend the hotel for a break or wedding. The scenery of the Atlantic ocean is out of this world. #wildatlanticway

On arrival we were impressed with the Hotel as the reception area is quite grand. However our room was a total let down. It was very grubby and dated and we didn't want to spend any time in it. The breakfast the next morning wasn't great either as the food was of poor quality. Not worth the money we paid!

Clean room, comfy bed. Service wasn't great.. Sat ages to be served for our dinner and breakfast. Dinner was poor and breakfast was freezing.

old fashioned not to everyone's taste but has Wifi and has comfortable beds. staff are nice and the food is good. Good spot for Golf

One of the best hotels I've been in ,you walk in the door and want to stay

A large rambling hotel which seems to have a symbiotic relationship with Budoran Golf Club. Golfers use the hotel, Hotel guests use the golf course.
Staff are friendly. The rooms are adequate and clean, nothing special.
There is a large dining room with the usual hotel type menu. The food is quite good but what I would call plain. Bar food is also available.
The hotel is nicely situated a few minutes walk away from the town.

Clean tidy good food excellent staff too who look after you well

Old style hotel in an amazing location, looking over the sea and cliffs. Everything is within walking distance. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean with the current COVID-19 situation. Food was excellent in both bar and restaurant. Lots of different choices. Would highly recommend if in the area.

Good because of food but very disappointed as shower was broken & on checking out made it known to to the staff on reception but very disappointed with their lack of concern & relaxed attitude felt should have @ least been offered a discount

I was very let down with hotel was not a 4star hotel I would rate it a 2/3 hotel not much in the breakfast room not great so a four star hotel not

Standing at Bar to order our drinks and food after 20 mins we left it wasnt even that busy we were not impress with service at this Hotel at all

We went here to watch a section of the bundoran darts masters. Incredible hotel, very large. Right on the sea shore, sorrounded by golf and walking scenery. We didn't stay so can't comment on that. Only disappointment was Michael van gerwin, who rejected my wife's request for picture with a curt and hurtful 'no... No'

Please don't get fooled by hotels photos on their website!!I have been at this hotel on my wedding anniversary 21st of July 2012. I have booked a room with sea view 3 weeks prior to this date. On arrival we were extremely surprised when we saw our room with view on damp and dirty wall!!! It meant to be a nice surprise for my wife on our wedding anniversary I couldn't wait till she sees beautiful room in even better 4* hotel. But what i saw was not even 1*!!! I have no idea who rated this hotel to be a 4* Not only we had awful view but they refused to give me a full refund saying that i didn't mention nothing about seaview, I then showed this lady a receipt with room with seaview stating on it. She then told me that I will lose 50 Euros if i check out. We stayed but were not happy at all. Very old fashioned room, smelling damp, old carpets, slightly damp bed sheets, old and used up furniture. Not to mention extremely rude staff in the hotels restaurant. Definitely not a place for a wedding aniversary!!!

Parking, there is a walk around coast, sign is right at the left corner of the hotel. Breakfast was lovely.

An absolute treat of this hotel. Great location, extremely friendly staff and very nice (if very different) rooms in the "old fashioned style". The location is the best: no matter which way you look out the window. Either sea or mountains. Topp !!

Very poor service. Staff were very laid back and switch off. Food for the price very poor. Room all right but we booked for a family of four and only had two beds??? Witch took a while to get sorted. Not my idea off a 4 star hotel. Was so looking forward to a break in Donegal this hotel done no favourites for Donegal tourism.

Everything from the staff, room, bar and food was top notch. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful, kind considerate and knowledgeable. <br/>I enjoyed my stay there very much and I hope to be back next year.<br/>Wendy from Wisconsin, USA

Always love my stay here but was a bit apprehensive because of covid-19. Hadn't a thing to worry about though. Plenty of hand sanitiser etc throughout the hotel. Plenty of cleaning in the restaurant after each table was vacated. Chairs table etc all wiped down. Fantastic social distancing practiced throughout and of course fantastic staff as always.

From the minute we arrived in the Great Northern Hotel,we enjoyed our stay . We were greeted by Gee the receptionist,who was warm and friendly and went out of her way to ensure we had a lovely break . The hotel was warm and comfortable and the food was lovely. Great facilities, we will definitely go back in the future, Bundoran is a lovely place and we highly recommend this hotel.

Food was lovely. My boys had a great time in the pool. And my partner used the gym aswell. Chris was great at showing my partner around the gym answers had great time for the kids in the pool aswell. We will definitely return. Such friendly staff and fantastic service from them aswell.

I am staying in the hotel as I write this review. Hotel is nice but overpriced. Had booked a twin room but had to travel on my own. Hotel would not accommodate a single rate as they have a '5 day policy' to Change bookings. Tried to explain to staff member who would not even make eye contact with me. Such inflexibility is very poor customer service

Lovely hotel...good pool and gym...rooms lovely..staff very helpful and pleasant but standard of food completely lets all that down....not 4 star standard by any stretch of the imagination...had breakfast....juices were tasteless like they were watered down.....butt dinner was biggest letdown...volauvent starter was like something my 12 year old threw together...nothing with it to decorate plate or make it even look like 4 star quality ....vegtables tasted few days old and as if they were reheated....steaks were edible but again not 4 star quality....i would go back but id be eating elsewhere unless standard is brought up to 4 star!!

Down rite dirty im almost certian the staff stop every hour and throw crumbs on ground and put hand prints on glass also nothing in my room worked witch was fun

Amazing hotel recommended for people with children. Beautiful seeview friendly staff. Pool facilities are absolutely child friendly. Little trip to Fairy Bridges and playing in seaside was a great memory. Kids loved the building itself.

Gorgeous hotel,brilliant golf course and comfortable rooms. Overall a really nice hotel!

Absolutely love this place. From start to finish we were made so welcome and nothing was bother. All staff are mannerly and willing to help. Rooms are fabulous, leisure area is great as are the staff. Hairdressers first class and very accommodating. Will definitely be back again soon.

I visited in February and the heating only came on very infrequently and the room stank, probably because it hadn't been used in a while. The view out of the window was of a long abandoned extension. This place has seen better days and is in need of refurbishment, I was reminded of the film The Shining. On a positive note the internet was decent.

Other guests who have poor rated this place must be fools as the service is impeccable the food fantastic dated rooms?? All you do is sleep in the bed and wake up again....Superb location amazing views friendly helpful staff .....

The majestic drive up to the hotel sets the pace for a grand stay with spectacular views! From the moment we entered till the moment we left we felt very welcome. The staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and very filling! Would recommend a stay any time of the year

Well if you want go into an early nursing home or creche this is the place for you.
Wont be staying here again . Old out dated decor. The shower was cold toilet all marked. One lady was friendly at reception a Chinese lady .

When i booked this 4star hotel i expected a 4star room. The room was just standard and outdated decor with a wardrobe in need of repair. I was looking forward to a 4star breakfast the first morning.. My full Irish breakfast was miserable, i asked the waiter for soda bread twice and he brought wheaten bread, he didn't seem to know what soda bread was. My child wanted scrambled eggs and toast...the scrambled egg was obviously microwaved ( that's not 4star) it was completely dried up sitting up on the plate on top of half a slice of toast. The second morning i went for breakfast early to be served quickly as it would not be as busy. I sat waiting for someone to take my order, after 20 minutes i had to ask a girl to take my order. The price wasn't reasonable. I was also looking forward to the Jacuzzi to relax in but was out of order for 3 days along with the massage chair. I was expecting a 4star hotel to have high standards, waste of money.
