Another New York landmark. Except it's always almost too dim lit in the lobby when you walk in that it's kind of hard to see. It's also a bit intimidating if it's your first time there. The rooms are very moody and quite large for New York. But the terrace is the most gorgeous.

I found this hotel absolutely beautiful! I visited a few weekends ago with family for a wedding. The rooms were very comfortable and decorated in almost a steam-punk fashion. They had hardwood floors, modern light fixtures with exposed bulbs, headboards covered in rich velvet fabric, a beautiful desk and chair, an old fashion radio on the night stand and thick velvet curtains. I thought it was so cool that the building really felt its age - no white walls, no carpeting. My only complaint about our room is that it was so very dark! During the day our window was a great source of light. But at night, you could barely see to read! My father-in-law had a gulf go out in his room and when a man came to replace it he mentioned that they only use 40 watt bulbs. This was definitely a stylistic choice.

Other than that we had a perfectly lovely time!

I would recommend visiting Grammercy Park! It's only open to residents. But t if you ask the security guard at the door, he can take you over (no more than six people at a time). He leaves you with a business card and you call them when you're ready to come out. It's a very simple park - a pleasant place to sit in next car weather.

Not sure how this place got such a high rating.

Not sure how this place got such a high rating.
Hotel is VERY dark. Makes it feel like they are hiding something... is it dirty? Who knows?! It is so dark that there is no way to tell. From checking in (counter was very dark), to the lobby bathrooms (eerily dark), to the bedrooms... so dark! I m all about some mold lighting or some ambiance, but this was ridiculous! The location was nice and the staff seemed decent (has little interaction with them). The rooms have old wooden floors that creak when you walk in your room. The windows let in a lot of sound. The bathroom (again.. dark) was dated. I did not have a bad experience here but will look for another place to rest my head next time I m in town.

Such a special hotel in a beautiful part of town. They gave us an amazing room for our wedding night, and one of our favorite parts was the access to Gramercy Park. Can't wait to stay here again!

If I could leave no stars, I absolutely would. I've stayed at this New York landmark nearly a dozen times, loving their dark and dramatic rooms and the wonderful location adjacent to historic Gramercy Park, however my last stay was perhaps the most unacceptable hotel experience I've ever had.

It began at check-in, when our room was not ready for nearly an hour post the 3 PM check-in time... a detail that usually would not matter to me, however it completely set back our afternoon plans to celebrate an engagement with friends. The front desk staff said they would call when the room was available, and when I went in-person to ask if the room was at all ready, the staff seemed completely confused and muttered a casual "oh! Yes that one!" They offered an upgrade, which I gladly accepted, however in reality... I believe I was given the exact same room I booked.

While in the room, when I called down to ask for champagne flutes and ice, I was told that I would be charged for the glassware... one of the most ridiculous, and dare I say tacky, thing I've ever experienced at a hotel, particular one of this caliber.

The moment that really destroyed the reputation of the hotel for me occurred at check-out. A credit card had been left at the bar with a tab the previous afternoon, and when we asked if we could close said tab and receive the card back, we were told that that was not possible as no "bartenders were not available." The concierge, who truly looked like a confused intern, was baffled when we asked if she could look for the card, at the very least, before our Amtrak train. She followed up with an attitude, and proceeded to tell us that no card could be located. She offered to call if it was able to be found once the bar opened at 3 PM, and I was surprised and delighted to receive a call saying it was found and that it would be sent to my home address in the mail. Said letter just arrived, and it was completely empty. When I followed up with the hotel management, they apologized and informed me that in fact, no card was ever found. This concierge simply lied to me and, to add insult to injury, had the audacity to mail me an empty envelope. Management apologized, but offered no solution, credit, or any form of reimbursement.

This is simply beyond unacceptable. This hotel has truly gone down the hill to the point of being unrecognizable. Do not, and I cannot stress this enough, waste your money here. What you will get for it is a landmark that sadly, because of poor service and staff that cares more about their appearance then their degree of service, has completely lost its glory. You can find better service elsewhere, particularly for the money, so be wise and look around, avoiding this sad, sad place.

Went to the Rose bar on Thursday night. This is a great bar with live music and top DJ's. The place was rocking. Very good bar with top cocktails. Highly recommended. Don't expect it to be a cheap night though.

The valet outside was quick to come up and take our rental car. When we walked in I was in awe of the gorgeous lobby, design use of rich color and texture and the aromatic smell coming from the fireplace. The seating is beautiful and you will be tempted to sit and read a book or chat with friends in the lobby. We were early for check in but, the front desk gladly stored our bags for us and gave us tickets to claim them when we returned. We booked a room with one queen bed but, found out the next day that we had been upgraded to a king room. The front desk staff was very helpful and explained concierge services, entry to Gramercy Park, dining options, etc.

You will need a room key to access any of the floors from the elevator. We arrived on our floor and noticed that it smelled like incense in the hallway so, I am not sure if they pump it through the vents but, something about it just made you feel happy.

Room Amenities: Comfortable mattress with high quality bedding, dining table with a cozy settee perfect for watching the tv, a bench and a chair fit for a king. The room is laid out in a way that it feels like a tiny apartment which is great if you plan on spending some time in your room or getting take out from somewhere. The room service menu was huge, the mini bar was well stocked (most items overpriced) but, half bottles of liquor were the best deal and they event had actual glasses for the wine. There is a safe, drawers, hangers and an ironing board in the closet. The bathroom is small but, the tub is deep, the toiletries they provide are superior quality, trust me the bath salts were amazing, shower head and hand held and two soft cotton robes to lounge in. Also, there are shutters and black out curtains in case you need to take a nap or had a long night. Every light is on a dimmer so, you can create some nice romantic ambiance. All rooms come with concierge service and access to the park. They turn down your bed, light a candle in the room and leave you a note about what the weather will be the next day on your pillow. The tv is on a swivel arm so you can watch it from the bed as well as the seating area.

Complaints: They need to fix the issue with the jade bar door people who even if you are on the list they say you aren't until you say you will go back to the concierge and talk to them. Then all the sudden the rude guy lets you in. Our ac unit went out for about 20 minutes and it got hot quick but, it came back on so we didn't have to report it. Check the alarm clock because ours went off at 5:30 a.m. and we didn't set it. People's room service trays sat out in the hallway for longer than I think they should have. We inquired about the event venue upstairs and were given the person's email to contact but, I never heard back from the email that I sent her. Our toiletries weren't replenished on the second day of our reservation so, I had to go down and ask for some more bath salts.

We decided to stay another night and they told us about the room upgrade but, extended the second day to the same room at the same price to make it easier on us. The front desk staff helped us when we booked the wrong day through booking dot com for the next night. Also, I grabbed some soup from down the street and they lent me a spoon without hesitation. We did use the concierge service for brunch reservations at the Italian restaurant on-site. She also took the time out to show us the venue Sunday morning before we checked out. We left our bags at the hotel after checking out and went to breakfast. We were able to call the hotel to get the valet to bring our car around before we went back and they had our bags waiting in the car. A great location to use as a base to explore the city and top notch service from start to finish make this my favorite hotel in the city.

I first stayed at the Gramercy in 1982. Years later I must admit that I have never stayed anywhere else other than a relative's apartment on the Upper East side. I only stay at the Gramercy.

Is it the fact that so many famous people have also loved this place? Or is it the fact that I can have access to and hangout in the last private park in Manhattan simply by being a guest and asking for the key? Perhaps it's the lovely remodel by Julian and crew that has brought the Gramercy back from the brink. For whatever reason, I think that you will find this pleasant hotel to be one of the finest in its price range as well as one of your future favorites. The hotel's venerable location is excellent for lower to mid-Manhattan visits. My venues are all in the Village or Soho so the Gramercy offers immediate access. Enjoy.
