GMHC: Fighting to End the AIDS Epidemic and Uplift Lives
GMHC is a non-profit organization that has been at the forefront of fighting against HIV/AIDS since 1981. The organization was founded in response to the growing epidemic, which was taking a devastating toll on communities across New York City. Today, GMHC continues to be a leading voice in the fight against HIV/AIDS, working tirelessly to end the epidemic and uplift the lives of all those affected.
At GMHC, our mission is clear: we are committed to ending the AIDS epidemic through advocacy, education, and support services. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare and support services regardless of their race, gender identity or sexual orientation. Our team works tirelessly every day towards this goal by providing comprehensive care for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as advocating for policies that promote prevention and treatment.

Our Services
GMHC offers a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS:
1) Health Services: We provide comprehensive medical care including primary care, mental health services, dental care as well as substance abuse treatment.
2) Legal Services: Our legal team provides free legal assistance for issues related to housing discrimination or eviction due to one's status as an individual living with HIV/AIDS.
3) Prevention & Education Programs: We offer educational programs aimed at preventing new infections while also promoting healthy lifestyles among those already infected with HIV.
4) Support Groups & Counseling: Our trained counselors provide emotional support through individual counseling sessions or group therapy sessions designed specifically for individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
5) Advocacy & Policy Work: At GMHC we advocate for policies aimed at improving access healthcare coverage while also promoting research into new treatments options.
Our Impact
Over its 40-year history, GMHC has made significant strides in fighting against AIDS/HIV epidemic both locally in New York City but also globally:
1) In 2019 alone we provided over 100k meals through our food pantry program.
2) Over 10k individuals received free testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
3) Over $20 million dollars were raised during World Aids Day fundraising campaign.
4) In partnership with other organizations around NYC we have helped reduce new diagnoses rates by over 50% since early '90s.
