Such a small volume is available for the public in the magnificent building and inside, such a small amount of art. Worth visiting for the building itself, the library and for coffee and carrot cake in the cafe.

It is the main contemporary art gallery in Glasgow. On three floors and you walk between artistic forms, photographs, sculptures, painting. It was originally the home of a wealthy Scottish tobacco merchant, then moved to the Royal Bank of Scotland and Royal Exchange and became a museum in 1996. The mosaic on the facade, the tower and the dome are fabulous. Easily accessible on foot.

Firstly the building is fantastic - stunning in fact- also free admission.

However the exhibitions were disappointing (July 2017) - 1 had nothing in it, another closed, what I saw didn't appear great. Although caution - I am no art critic so it may be that this is great artwork (but I doubt it). A video is shown of a documentary about bomb damage filmed on a smart phone, another has coloured papers with a twigs on top of them. Exhibition areas are spacious but why not just add more artwork to showcase more artists work?

Worth a visit to look at the building - hopefully will be improved in future

After shopping and having a bite to eat in a local restaurant, it's nice to take a cultural break in Goma, the museum of modern art. Entrance is free, donation is suggested. The museum welcomes us on several floors.

Art museums aren't usually my sort of place but I did enjoy my visit here. In total, I think I spent a little over an hour within the gallery. It's certainly a good place to visit if you have a short amount of spare time to do something in Glasgow. The gallery has lots of different exhibits showing very different types of art. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the art. The building itself is also very interesting to look at.

Visited on October 18 and was delighted. Especially by the Inner City exhibition and the work of Mitch Miller; his inner city model and dialectograms were amazingly intricate and detailed. Some rooms are a bit poorly lit, true, but overall the work is very well curated. There is a lovely Create Space that's great for kids. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable as well. And completely free admission!

Free. A small museum with a finger in most pies. A personal collection that reflects the interests of the collector, from the macabre human body bits to the beautiful gem collection. Lovely building.

Have been here every now and again for the past 15 years and it still remains quite useless and the exhibitions are a joke... when i was younger i used to come here to play games on the computers in the library, now i dont know why anyone would come here apart from the library

If you take a lot of time, you need 45 minutes to see everything here. It's a nice museum for in between ... However, there are several museums in the city that I would prefer or found much better.

Although its exhibitions are sometimes rare, the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art is always a good idea. The building is spectacular, it is in the center and it is interesting. And the store is ideal.

Free gallery with some (read: a handful) decent artworks and the majority not worth any admission or donation in my humble opinion. The current multimedia artwork at the ground floor is worth the visit, but the higher you climb, the more disappointed you might become...

This is a place where I can stay all day long and won't be bored. It gives me such sense of being. Very artful and encouraging! Whenever I become a little sad or nervous, I visit here. It is very important place for me.

A nice library. A huge collection of books you can find over there ranging from different section across science, maths, art, music, physiology and others too mention. You have a ground floor cafeteria as well to keep you full any time you feel hungry. A little souvenir shop is there as well for quick shopping. It consist of 4 floors and mostly 2,3,4 floor you can sit down in peace and go through your books/interest.

This art gallery and exhibition hall run by Glasgow City council is free and open to the public and is set in an impressive iconic and historic building which in Glasgows heyday housed the Royal Exchange and has since been used as a bank and library. The exhibition on this visit in the main gallery is called Cellular world, a collection of what I suppose can be described as modern sculptures and pastiches which are interesting but not very eye catching. There's also Andy Warhols can of Soup in an upper Gallery

Gallery of Modern Art is a great place to visit if you happen to love Art. This gallery offers a programme of temporary exhibitions and workshops so each time you visit chances are there will be something new to see. It is in the middle of the city in the Royal Exchange Square. This gallery is well worth a visit.

The Gallery of Modern Art is an art museum in Glasgow. The building was built in 1778, rebuilt several times and has housed the museum since 2002. The building is located in the city center on Royal Exchange Square and has been a listed building since 1966.

It's the building behind the Statue of the pompous Duke of Wellington on Horseback who is now sniggered at by visitors and passers-by.
Yes it's the iconic 'Chookie Wellington', with the traffic cone hat!

Like all of Glasgow's museums and art galleries, the.GoMA is free. Visitors might need to use elbows, to get past the Wegies (locals) who regularly pop in for a bit of culture whilst 'in the toon daein their messages' (shopping in the city centre).

The Edinburgh museums, good as they are, tend to be aloof, passed by and over looked by the residents of Edinburgh (Edinburgers?...who knows?), whilst Glasgow's museums are heaving with diverse life and art; what ever that may be. Anything really, 'this and that' perhaps. The day of my visit, there was far more of 'this' (excellent works of modern art, stunningly creative, so I am told) and very little of 'that' (which tbh looked like a collection of junk assembled by a monkey). Actually I liked the junk far better, and I think I got what the money was all about. Just as all the smiling sniggering passers-by get what the NED who first put the traffic cone on the Duke's was all about.
Who would have believed that the NED's actions would become a world know piece of modern art enjoyed by millions. That's exactly what the GoMA is all about... It's all Art... 'Modern Art' in fact, and that means a lot of people might think that a lot of it is just junk, but hey, if just around the corner, or outside the front door, you're likely to see something that you just 'get' because it 'gets you.

Have a visit, you've nothing to lose, it's free admission, you'll be in, out of the rain, and there's a 'stoatin' (absolutely marvelous) 'wee' (small) shop 'stappit fu and stowed oot' (well stocked) with 'rerr sutff' (highly desirable items). I think you'll surprise yourself and be glad that you popped in.

It worth while keeping an eye on this place... 'Just in case'. Well 'you never know!'

It's well worth going if you think about historical values. There was no subtitle in the video in the exhibition, but it contained significant content. There are many galleries in preparation for the exhibition, so there aren't many things to see, but if you are a contemporary artist, I recommend you go. I was able to see works that were not found in other ordinary art museums. The internet connection was not good in the underground cafe / library, but it was nice to have a rest area where you could relax.

Free entry so if you don't like it basically you can leave. It's not worth traveling from far to visit the place but if you are around just go in for few minutes to see it your self. The Duke statue is funny though, every now and then people do something with his cone.

This used to be a world class gallery when it first opened in 1996. Since that time, the basement gallery (which was the audio visual interactive gallery) has been replaced by the library, but none of the exhibits have been moved to elsewhere. When I attended, the ground floor gallery was completely empty and all of the major works of art across the floors have been removed.

The only art work worth making a journey for is the Adrian Wiszniewski cafe - but that is now a studio space with no public access

Where is Bruce Laceys head, the Hex Machine, Michael Haydens interactive tunnel of light? Where is the Sharmanka Kenitic?

This gallery has really went down hill and is a disgrace to the beautiful old mansion house that one housed one of Scotlands premier art collections. Shame on you, Glasgow City Council for allowing this to happen.

Well worth a visit. The main exhibition hall often gets a large installation which can be hit or miss. The galleries upstairs are always worth looking at too. Best of all it's free but consider leaving a donation at the door.

Visited on 09 December 2018. I had forgotten to write down the tour times but the staff was very kind and accommodating. I got a free private tour! Great place to visit. A shining example of how something with a dark history can be used to improve the future even though it looks nothing like what it did.

Glasgow Modern Art Museum: The GoMa installs his paintings in a neoclassical mansion of the 18th century. On his forecourt, the iconic equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington irreverently combed by a cone of signaling.

An excellently sorted museum for modern art that can easily keep up with supposedly prominent representatives of its genre. Years ago, I always enjoyed going here with my children, and I am sure that my children's children will do the same with joy and enthusiasm.

Beautiful neoclassical building built around 1780. It currently houses the museum of modern art. Outside this museum there is a peculiarity, because there is the equestrian statue of the Duke of Welligton. This statue usually has an orange plastic traffic cone on its head, and has become one of the symbols of the city, the subject of postcards and souvenirs. Although the city council has been in charge of removing the cone several times, it is placed again and again. It is believed that this tradition began with a joke since 2000.

I just visited today after lunch and...from what I viewed in Galleries 2-3, I am aghast that this museum is even open. It is very disappointing and downright depressing. True, there wasn't a special exhibition mounted in Gallery 1. But the pieces exhibited in 2-3 were monochromatic, mostly photographs and a couple of multimedia installations. I love modern, abstract, expressionism in all its iterations (I own pieces) and from many periods, so I am not uninitiated. There is no connective tissue, no energy, no verve and no depth in this collection currently on display. I am, frankly, shocked and dismayed. Sorry, Glasgow, because the city is the exact opposite. The city crackles with energy and I was hoping to see a collection that reflects the city's vitality. What a shame. I hope something changes at this institution.

Free entry and you get exactly what you pay for, nothing. What a waste of an afternoon, the exhibitors cannot even write in English! An embarrassment for the great city of Glasgow.

What is the second sentence of this drivel trying to say? The same critical attention as what?

The gallery of modern art is a museum that you have to visit every couple of months because it keeps changing. The last time I was there a couple of years ago I didn't find anything that I liked but this time around I found quite a few exciting things. Like art about the suffragettes and a fantastic video of an Artist that does chain reactions art with fire. It's also a beautiful building with some great architecture on the outside so have a look round the outside and look up you'll be amazed what you see. The staff is amiable and helpful. There is a fantastic gift shop that sells all sorts of artistic things and Gorgeous jewelry. I recommend just going into the gallery to look at the shop. Some disability things to mention they have a lift which gives you accesses to all the floors but because of its age it's a bit temperamental be patient with it. Also, the accessible toilet which is in the basement of the building it's not very big so getting larger wheelchairs in Might be a bit hard but the staff is more than willing to help. In the basement, there is a library and an adorable cafe that sells a vast range of lunch and snack things. The cafe also has a Macmillan corner where you can get help and advice with cancer.
